IND vs BAN: India win rain-affected Kanpur Test with 'pro-bazball' approach; pocket series 2-0
It was a “pro-Bazball” approach by Team India in the Kanpur Test as the hosts secured a statement win against Bangladesh on Tuesday (Oct 1). Having seen over two days (approx. 235 overs) washed out due to rain in Kanpur, the new-lookIndian team managed to force a result after chasing down a 95-run target on Day 5 of the contest. Bangladesh were bowled out for 146 in the second innings as Jasprit Burmah and Ravindra Jadeja helped India to grab the series 2-0 after aseven-wicket win in Kanpur.
India go pro-Bazball
With no play on the second and third day of the Test match, India made a lightning start and broke a series of records in the first innings. Rohit Sharma’s army scored 285/9 before declaring in the final session of Day 4 having earlier restricted the visitors to 233. With a 52-run lead in the first innings, the Indian bowlers consolidated with the conditions in Kanpur and bowled out Bangladesh for 146 in the second innings in the opening session of Day 5.
India’s three frontline bowlers – Jadeja, Bumran and Ravichandran Ashwin all bagged three wickets each giving India a mere 95-run target to chase.
The target was achieved by the Indian side before the Tea break having lost the wickets of skipper Rohit Sharma (8) and Shubman Gill (6). Yashasvi Jaiswal was yetagain at the peak of the Indian batting attack having scored51. He had earlier scored a quickfire 72 in the first innings.

The win also sees India tighten its grip onthe World Test Championship (WTC) standings with a crunch five-match Test series against Australia to follow. If India manage to escape the tour Down Under unscratched they will have one foot in the final of the WTC which is set to take place at the Lord’s in June 2025.
