Champions Trophy 2025: ICC approves hybrid model after long saga, India to play in Dubai
The Champions Trophy 2025 drama continues to unfold after Board of Control for India's (BCCI) refusal to send India to Pakistan for the tournament. The Indian board has asked for a hybrid model, suggesting the UAE as the alternative option for India's matches but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has refused it categorically.
The International Cricket Council (ICC), meanwhile, has delayed the scheduled announcement which was earlier planned for November 11. According to a report in the news outlet India Today, the apex body is trying to get Pakistan ready for the hybrid model.
The report also said that the schedule of the tournament would be out soon as well.

“We are still in discussions with the host and participating members on the Champions Trophy schedule. It should be out soon, likely in a couple of days or so,” read the report citing a source familiar with the matter.
The possible reason behind ICC's persuasion behind making PCB accept the hybrid model could be India's revenue capacity and the potential loss of sponsors if Men in Blue donot participate.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, however, in his latest statement was adamant about holding the entire tournament in Pakistan only.
"Pakistan's pride and respect is our priority. Champions Trophy will take place in our country only, we will not accept Hybrid Model. If India has any issues, they can come to us and we will sort them out," Naqvi told reporters outside Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium on Monday (Nov 18) – one of the venues for the upcoming tournament.
Both countries do not play bilateral cricket due to political tensions. The two sides have only met in ICC events since 2012.
India had decided not to play in Pakistan during the Asia Cup 2023 last year as well and the tournament was played under a hybrid model with India's games being scheduled in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan, however, travelled to India for the ODI World Cup 2023 immediately after the ODI WC and hoped for India to return the favour.
The Champions Trophy is scheduled to be played from February 19 to March 9 across three venues in Pakistan: Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore.
