Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟 (4.5 Stars)

Adapting the Ramayana is one of the biggest challenges any filmmaker can take on. There are countless expectations, interpretations, opinions and sentiments attached to this story. Glad to note director Nitesh Tiwari handles the responsibility with remarkable conviction. He delivers a film that does justice to the story and gives us something we can genuinely be proud of.

RAMAYANA has grandeur, emotion and an engaging narrative. The action sequences are slick, the world-building is impressive and the film has several moments that truly hit home. And I am already genuinely excited about Part Two now, which promises even more drama, conflict and epic battles (as many of us already know)

Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram is excellent. He brings sincerity and conviction to the character and does complete justice to the role. Those who had doubts about his casting should definitely watch his performance. Sai Pallavi is exceptional as Maa Sita. There is a certain grace and divinity in her presence that makes her stand out. Yash as Ravana is terrific. His screen presence is commanding and he brings tremendous intensity to the character. Rakul Preet as Shurpanakha is a welcome addition and delivers a good supporting performance. Overall, the cast does justice to the characters they portray.

I wasn’t really impressed with the songs, but the background score is outstanding. Especially during the emotional and action sequences, the music elevates the cinematic experience considerably. A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer have done a phenomenal job. On the flip side, some action sequences may seem lengthy but they don not at all mar the experience.

Full marks to Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra for backing a project of this scale and ambition. Their conviction in the subject, the vision to bring together an international team and the sheer effort invested in realising this world deserve appreciation. Their belief in the project has clearly translated onto the screen.

On the whole, RAMAYANA PART ONE is grand, emotional, engaging and visually spectacular. More importantly, it is a film that makes you feel proud of the scale of Indian cinema. A promising beginning to an epic that deserves to be experienced on the biggest screen possible.

DON’T MISS IT IN CINEMAS!

With VFX and graphics from Oscar-winning DNEG, and music by the Academy Award-winning team of Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman, the movie boasts a star-studded cast. Apart from Ranbir, the movie stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.

Ramayama: Part 1 review

WION's film critic Shomini Sen hailed Yash’s powerhouse performance and jaw-dropping VFX.

Mounted on a huge scale, Ramayana primarily works because of its jaw-dropping VFX. Producer Namit Malhotra’s visual effects studio DNEG creates a visually breathtaking premise, perfect for the time the story is set in. The film’s massive canvas is visible in every frame, and almost all are picturesque. One doesn't feel like taking their eyes off the screen even for a moment. The action sequences are elaborate and very well executed. I particularly enjoyed the portions where Ram, Sita and Lakshman tackle a bunch of monsters in a cursed jungle and one involving the aged bird Jatayu and Ravana near the end of the film, which leads to Jatayu’s death. READ MORE HERE:

I understand why people are concerned. Films and music can influence young people, and some kids copy what they see. Filmmakers should think about how they show violence.

But cinema alone cannot be blamed for someone’s actions. Family values, upbringing, the political climate in different states, and the way each person thinks and reacts all matter.

People’s experiences and trauma can affect them too. Everyone has good and bad in them, but none of this excuses violence.

I would never support anyone going into a school, college or any other place to kill someone with a chainsaw. It is horrifying and completely wrong.

The attack in Andhra Pradesh deserves a serious discussion, but we should not assume that one film, song or filmmaker caused it.

I have enjoyed Animal, Kabir Singh, Dhurandhar, KGF and many other films, but I have also had problems with some scenes.

A film is a story, and we should know that we do not have to copy everything we see. Many people work together to make a film. These are recent examples too.

If social media and today’s moral policing had existed in the 70s, 80s and 90s, people would have found plenty to criticise in films from those years as well.

Age ratings should be followed. Parents should not bring infants to films rated -A. We can take the influence of films seriously while also expecting viewers to understand the difference between a story and real life.

If we criticise films, we should be fair and look at songs too. Ban songs like Kar Gayi Chull, Rom Rom Romantic (both my songs), Beedi Jalaile, Pink Lips and Chikni Chameli, Munni Badnaam, why are they celebrated and used on reality shows ??

There are also so many songs and content pieces outside of films, specially rap music available on YouTube and Instagram, especially from the northern belt, about murder, power and aggression. Some songs call women “items” or talk about picking up girls. Parents play these songs around their children and encourage them to dance to them.

It’s an art form, and we all can go right or wrong sometimes, but it’s a bloody imaginative space.

If you are getting so influcned by a film you’re the fool.

If every film, song or show with violence or questionable content is blamed for people’s actions, then ban Pushpa, KGF, Latent and other comedy shows

Why don’t we all become the moral police and ban everything? Cinema can influence people, but it is not the only reason someone commits a crime.
— Amaal Mallik (@AmaalMallik) November 4, 2026

A day after director Vanga indirectly hit back at the YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, singer and composer Amaal Mallik has weighed in on the debate. Films and music can influence young people, and some kids copy what they see. Filmmakers should think about how they show violence,'' he said. ''But cinema alone cannot be blamed for someone’s actions. Family values, upbringing, the political climate in different states, and the way each person thinks and reacts all matter. People’s experiences and trauma can affect them too. Everyone has good and bad in them, but none of this excuses violence,'' he said.
