Three killed, 10 injured in shooting outside grocery store in Arkansas, US

Three people were killed and 10 others were injured after a shooter opened fire at a grocery store inFordyce, Arkansas on Friday (June 21). A report by the news agency Associated Press early Saturday said that the shooting occurred at about 11.30 am local time Friday at theMad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce. The injured included two law enforcement officers who exchanged fire and shot the suspect, police said.
Addressing a press conference,Col. Mike Hagar, director of the Arkansas State Police and public safety secretary, said, "It’s tragic, our hearts are broken." Col. Hagar said the two officers' injuries were notlife-threatening, and other injuriesranged from “not life-threatening to extremely critical.”
Shooter arrested, charged
The shooter was identified as44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey of New Edinburg. The Associated Press report said thatPosey was arrested andcharged with three counts of capital murder, while other charges were still pending.
Posey also did not suffer any life-threatening injuries, Hagar told reporters on Friday.

Roderick Rogers, a member of the city council, said he called the county sheriff when employees at his restaurant nearby notified him of the shooting. Rogers said that when he got there,he saw people running for cover in every direction, even one running to the hospital nearby.
“People were just jumping into cars to get to safety,” he added.
A video posted on social media showedat least one person lying in the parking lot, while another captured multiple gunshots ringing out. Meanwhile, images from journalists at the sceneshowed a slew of bullet holes in the grocery store’s window and spent shell casings strewn throughout the parking lot.
President Joe Biden briefed on shooting
The White House said thatPresident Joe Biden wasbriefed on the shooting and his team would continue to keep him updated.Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders also said she was briefed on the shooting.
"I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives.My prayers are with the victims and all those impacted by this," Governor Sanders said in a post on X.
