Slovak PM Robert Fico, who survived assassination bid, moves to home care from hospital

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was discharged from the hospital on Friday (May 31) after he was injured in an assassination attempt.
PM Robert Fico was shot with four bullets at close range by an attacker when he was meeting the supporters.
Director of the clinic in the central city of Banska Bystrica Miriam Lapunikova said that PM Fico has been sent to his home where his recovery will continue after the attack.

The hospital said that the condition of Fico has been improving.

The 59-year-old prime minister was shotat close range by a gunman while he was greetingsupporters at a government meeting which was being held in the central Slovak town of Handlova on May 15.
The prime minister was in serious condition after the attack and had to undergo a five-hour operation. He had to undergo another surgery after two days.
The police identified the attacker as 71-year-old Juraj C. He was detained on the spot and is facing the charge of attempted premeditated murder.

This was the first major assassination attempt on a European political leader in the last 20 years.
Earlier, the government officials had said that it appeared as a politically motivated attack which was committed by a “lone wolf", however, they later announced that a “third party” is likely to be involved in “acting for the benefit of the perpetrator.”
Fico is a populist who has earlier been compared to United States former president Donald Trump. He is seen as sympathetic to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
