Hamas said on Saturday (May 25) that its fighters captured Israeli soldiers during fighting innorthern Gaza's Jabalia. Speaking to Al Jazeera,Abu Ubaida, the spokespersonfor Hamas' armed wing Al Qassam Brigades, said, "Our fighters lured a Zionist force into an ambush inside a tunnel ... The fighters withdrew after they left all members of the force dead, wounded, and captured."
The Israeli military denied the claim, clarifying that there was no incident where its soldiers were abducted by the Palestinian militant group.Hamas released a video that appeared to show a bloodied personbeing draggedalong the ground in a tunnel and photos of military fatigue and a rifle. Butthis video could not be verified.
The above developments came as prospects fora resumption ofmediatedGazaceasefire talks grew on Saturday. Speaking to the news agency Reuters, an official familiar with developments saida decision hadbeen takento resume the talks next week after the chief of Israel's Mossad intelligence agency met the head of the CIA and the prime minister of Qatar.

The official, who chose to remain anonymous, said it hadbeen decidedthat"in the coming weeknegotiationswill open based on new proposals led by the mediators, Egypt and Qatar, and with active USinvolvement."
Hamas, meanwhile, denied Israeli media reports thattalks would resume in Cairo on Tuesday, telling Reuters: "There is no date."
Also on Saturday, the Israeli military launched strikes on Rafahas the government dismissed an order by the top UN court to halt its military offensive in the southernGaza city.
In a case brought by South Africa alleging the Israeli military operation amounts to "genocide", the International Court of Justice (ICJ)ordered Israel to halt its Rafah offensiveand demandedthe release of hostages and the "unhindered provision" of humanitarian aid intoGaza.
Israelgave no indicationit was preparing to change course in Rafah, insisting the courthadgot it wrong.
