COVID-19: Beijing reports another 27 cases amid second wave fears

Amid growing fears of a second wave of coronavirus, as China tested thousands of residents in capital Beijing, the city reported another 27 coronavirus cases which were reportedly domestically transmitted.

China's National Health Commission also reported four new domestic infections in Hebei province, including Sichuan province even as there were reports of at least eight imported cases.
"A cluster like this is a concern and it needs to be investigated and controlled -- and that is exactly what the Chinese authorities are doing," World Health Organisation (WHO) said.
Chinese health officials had earlier said that the earlier infections were linked to the Xinfadi market after 8,000 workers tested positive for the virus. Chinese authorities on Monday had shut all indoor sports to contain the virus.
The city had earlier reported 100 cases of COVID-19 which was confirmed by the WHO. As reports of the virus spread, state Xinhua news agency reported that students should revert to stay-at-home schooling even as authorities locked 21 housing estates near Xinfadi.
