US Election 2024: TheRepublican Party's Donald Trump is all set to return as President of the United States. This marks Trump’s second time in office, having served from 2016 to 2020. In this election, he defeated Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris. At 78, Trump now stands as the oldest person to be elected asthe US president.
Despite facing two assassination attempts during his 2024 campaign, Trump continued to rally support and secure his second term.
In 2016, he ran as the Republican nominee and defeated Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, but lost to Democrat Joe Biden in 2020.
His path to politics was unconventional—starting as a businessman, real estate tycoon, and reality TV star before becoming president. He is also the first former president in history to be declared a convicted felon.
Born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York, Trump was the fourth of five children of Mary and Fred Trump, a real estate developer. He graduated with a finance degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School in 1968.
In 1971, he took over his father’s business, renaming it the Trump Organization. Trump expanded the company into hotels, resorts, residential and commercial buildings, casinos, and golf courses. In 2004, he became a TV star with the reality show The Apprentice, which brought him widespread fame.
Trump’s first marriage was to Czech athlete and model Ivana Zelnickova. They divorced in 1990, sharing three children— Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric. He married actress Marla Maples in 1993 and divorced in 1999; they have one daughter, Tiffany. Trump’s current wife, Melania, a former model from Slovenia, married him in 2005, and they have a son, Barron William Trump.
