The Russia - Ukraine war has carried into the New Year with fresh accusations and intensified drone attacks, even as peace talks remain stalled. Russia claims Ukrainian drones struck a New Year celebration site in the coastal village of Khorly, killing civilians, including a child. Ukraine has not commented on the allegation, while accusing Moscow of launching hundreds of drone strikes targeting energy infrastructure across the country. The escalation comes as President Vladimir Putin orders Russian forces to push deeper into northern Ukraine to create a buffer zone, and as U.S.-led diplomatic efforts struggle to gain traction. With both sides trading blame and signaling further military action, the conflict shows no sign of easing as the new year begins.
