Ghana’s parliament passed a sweeping anti-LGBTQ+ bill in May 2026. The legislation imposes prison sentences of up to three years for identifying as LGBTQ+ or engaging in same-sex acts, and up to ten years for promoting, sponsoring, or advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. It also mandates a legal "duty to report" suspected individuals to the police.
