Bath & Body works apologises for selling candles in packaging that looks like KKK

American retail store chain Bath & Body Works issued an apologyon Monday (Oct 14) for sellinga candle with packaging that some people said looked like Ku Klux Klan (KKK) hoods.
The 3-wick candle was called “Snowed In” and briefly appeared on the company’s website for purchase. A report by the news agency Associated Press said that the candle was quickly pulled off of the website once the issue was brought to Bath & Body Works' attention.
What did the packaging show?
The Associated Press report said that the image on the packaging of the candle was supposed to convey a snowflake cut out of paper.The outer edges of the snowflake are white and cone-shaped, with two holes cut out near the centre.
However, several users on social media pointed out that the packaging resembled the hoods and robes worn by the KKK.

The war of words over the packaging
“I have never seen a snowflake that looks like that,” one Instagram user commented.“This wasn’t an accident,” said another.
On the social media platform X, a user said, "Bath & Body Works needs to fire all the people who approved this candle artwork."
Another X user by the name of Sumnersaid, "Bath & Body Works is apologizing and pulling a candle from its shelves and online platform after catching backlash for seemingly depicting a KKK hood-like design. Really B&BW!!? If we noticed, I'm sure you did too, but you gave the 'go ahead'anyway!!"
Meanwhile, some users on social media also pointed out that the candle's packaging had nothing to do with thewhite supremacist group.
"Bath and Body Works has pulled its winter candle from shelves after shoppers say it replicates the KKK hood design. Am I the only one that doesn’t see it? The snowflakes are being triggered by a snowflake," an X user by the name of Jackunheard said.
"Bath & Body Works took their candle off the market because some mentally sick person imagined they saw KKK hoods on the candle label. I’m not kidding," another user wrote on the platform.
'Mistake was unintentional'
In a statement, a Bath & Body Works spokesperson said that the mistake (on the candle packaging) was unintentional, and the company was committed to fixing it.
“We apologise to anyone we’ve offended and are swiftly working to have this item removed and are evaluating our process going forward,” the spokesperson said.
