As per officials from Jeju Air, the passenger also complained of feeling "pressure" on his chest.

In today's world of instant gratification where you can connect to someone via a voice call, a message, or a video call instantly, police in this Indian state are holding on to a flock of carrier pigeons for their communication needs. Police in the Eastern Indian state of Odisha are preserving carrier pigeons for use in scenarios where a disaster might compromise communication links.

A colonial legacy

The opening Test of Ashes 2023 has lived up to expectations. After England opted to bat first, they rode on Joe Root's 118 not out to declare at 393 for 8. In reply, Australia made 386 all-out courtesy of Usman Khawaja's 141 as Ben Stokes & Co. ended Day 3 at 28 for 2, with a lead of 35 runs. Day 4 turned out to be another exciting contest between bat and ball with the hosts restricting Australia to 107 for 3 in pursuit of 282. The penultimate day's play also saw the English fans target Steve Smith once again.

Ever since Smith returned to international cricket post the infamous sandpaper gate fiasco, which took place during his captaincy tenure in Australia's tour of South Africa in early 2018, the English fans have given him a hard time. They mocked him during the 2019 ODI World Cup, Ashes 2019 and the Edgbaston fans sledged him during Day 4's proceedings on Monday (June 19).

In a video that has gone viral on social media platforms, home fans chanted 'Saw you cry on the telly' for Smith, reminding him of his press conference where he accepted his involvement in the sandpaper gate saga in 2018. Smith, however, didn't react much to the taunts. Here's the video -

Here's the video - English Crowd Mocking Steven Smith: We Saw You Crying on the Telly. Broad also removed Smith for 6 (13) as the match is evenly poised at stumps on the penultimate day, with Australia in need of 174 more runs and England requiring seven wickets for a win. Day 5 has seen a delayed start due to rain. Fans from both camps will hope for rain to not hamper the entire day's play with an exciting end on cards at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Russian President Vladimir Putin found himself in the spotlight once again when a video capturing an interesting incident went viral on the internet. The footage shows Putin standing on a boat near the Lakhta Center in St. Petersburg, accompanied by Elena Ilyukhina, an official from the Russian Petroleum refineries company Gazprom Neft. As the Russian national anthem plays in the background, Elena initiates a conversation with Putin, who responds by standing silently, seemingly showing respect for the anthem.

Aware of the protocol, Putin subtly reminds his talkative companion not to speak during the anthem by placing his finger on his lips.

Awkward silence and online reactions

In the remaining seconds of the 22-second video, an uncomfortable silence ensues between Putin and Elena. The incident quickly gained attention on social media platforms, with a Twitter page sharing the video along with the caption, "Vladimir Putin reminds his talkative host not to speak during the Russian National Anthem."
A California family has stumbled upon a surprising treasure hidden within the basement crawlspace of their Los Angeles house: over a million pennies. They made the remarkable discovery when they began cleaning out their father's former home in Pico-Union, Los Angeles.

The discovery has left the family with an intriguing dilemma, a champagne problem to say — what to do with such an enormous amount of money.

It's raining pennies

John Reyes, a realtor hailing from the Inland Empire area, and his wife, Elizabeth, were cleaning out the house that belonged to Elizabeth's father.

The house, dating back to the early 1900s, was believed to have once served as a bed-and-breakfast establishment.

Previously occupied by John's father-in-law, Fritz, and his brother — both German immigrants— the property had been a home for several decades. Following Fritz's passing and his brother's departure, the Reyes family took on the arduous task of clearing out the historic residence, intending to renovate it for future generations.

Also read | After record 100 days underwater, Florida's Dr Deep resurfaces. Here's why he undertook the amazing feat

As they delved deeper into the basement's cluttered recesses, John and Elizabeth unearthed loose pennies, old paper rolls disintegrating with age. However, the discovery didn't stop there. They stumbled upon crates, boxes, and numerous bank bags, containing more than a million pennies accumulated over decades.

The assortment of bank bags revealed intriguing details, with some labelled with names of defunct banks or ones unfamiliar to the Reyes family. The significance of their find gradually sank in, and they realized they were facing hundreds of thousands of pounds of copper pennies.

How many pennies are there exactly?

The pennies are copper and not the more common zinc variety introduced in the 1980s.

To estimate the full extent of their find, the family performed rough calculations, weighing the bags and extrapolating their contents. The conclusion was staggering — they conservatively estimated possessing at least 1 million pennies.

However, the challenge they confronted was deciding how to manage such an enormous collection effectively.

What are they going to do with all the pennies?

As per a Fox 5 report, initially, the idea of cashing out the pennies and putting the matter to rest seemed tempting.

The thought of utilising a Coinstar machine crossed their minds, but they swiftly discarded the notion due to the associated 8 per cent fee and the logistical challenge of transporting such an immense quantity of coins back to their home in Ontario. To explore alternative options, they reached out to several banks in Los Angeles, hoping to find a willing partner in handling the pennies.

Also read | Smoke from Canadian wildfires pushes residents towards DIY air purifiers. Are they safe?

Their efforts, however, were met with unexpected obstacles. Wells Fargo, one of the banks they contacted, refused to accept the sizable influx of pennies, citing space constraints and expressing disbelief at the scale of the collection.

Finally, John Reyes decided to list the coins on OfferUp, a prominent online resale platform, setting an asking price of $25,000. If their estimate of 1 million pennies held true, the face value of the coins comes up to around $10,000.

The asking price of the collection thus surpasses the face value by more than double. "The value is in the uniqueness," says Reyes who believes that taking less than their full value would be a disservice to the ideals and principles that guided his father-in-law throughout his life.

Offers received thus far have primarily been for partial purchases. However, the family reportedly is determined to sell the entire collection rather than divide it.

They made the remarkable discovery when they began cleaning out their father's former home in Pico-Union, Los Angeles. The discovery has left the family with an intriguing dilemma, a champagne problem to say — what to do with such an enormous amount of money. It's raining pennies John Reyes, a realtor hailing from the Inland Empire area, and his wife, Elizabeth, were cleaning out the house that belonged to Elizabeth's father. Here's why he undertook the amazing feat As they delved deeper into the basement's cluttered recesses, John and Elizabeth unearthed loose pennies, old paper rolls disintegrating with age. After record 100 days underwater, Florida's Dr Deep resurfaces. Here's why he achieved the amazing feat

Doctors are held in high regard across the globe. Their hard work and drive to save the patients are the source of awe, and in some cultures, they are even revered as 'living' gods. However, not even they can predict a patient's chances of death. However, a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool developed by a team at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine claims to hold the capability to do just that.

As per a report by the news agency AFP, the AI-based tool has shown promising results in reading physicians' notes and accurately predicting patients' risk of death, readmission to the hospital, and other important outcomes related to their care.

NYUTron

The software, known as NYUTron, is currently being used by NYU's affiliated hospitals in New York. The team behind this amazing tool hopes that one day it will become a standard component of healthcare practices.

A study published in the journal Nature highlights the predictive capabilities of this AI tool.

Also read | AI attempts to bring dead back to life, give people closure

Talking to AFP, lead author Eric Oermann, a neurosurgeon and computer scientist at NYU, explained that while predictive models in medicine have existed for some time, they are not widely used due to the challenges of organising and formatting the required data.

However, the team realised that physicians consistently write detailed notes about their clinical observations and patient interactions. This, as per the team, can be a valuable source of data for building predictive models.

"One thing that's common in medicine everywhere, is physicians write notes about what they've seen in clinic, what they've discussed with patients," said Oermann.

"So our basic insight was, can we start with medical notes as our source of data, and then build predictive models on top of it?"

How did they achieve this feat?

NYUTron is basically a large language model. To train it, researchers used millions of clinical notes from the health records of 387,000 patients treated at NYU Langone hospitals between January 2011 and May 2020.

These notes encompassed various types of records written by doctors, including progress notes, radiology reports, and discharge instructions, resulting in a massive corpus of 4.1 billion words.

Using this data, the software made predictions which were then evaluated against real outcomes retrospectively.

One of the significant challenges the software faced was interpreting the diverse natural language used by physicians, which often includes unique abbreviations and variations.

The results?

Overall, NYUTron exhibited impressive performance, correctly identifying 95 per cent of patients who died in the hospital before discharge and predicting 80 per cent of patients who would be readmitted within 30 days.

Furthermore, NYUTron accurately estimated the actual length of stay for 79 per cent of patients, correctly identified 87 per cent of cases where insurance coverage was denied, and accurately recognized 89 per cent of cases where patients had additional conditions accompanying their primary disease.

It surpassed the predictions made by most doctors and outperformed non-AI computer models currently in use.

Can artificial intelligence replace doctors?

Interestingly, no. The tool was outperformed by the most experienced physician in the study, who achieved results exceeding the model's predictions.

As per Oermann, "the most senior physician who's actually a very famous physician, he had superhuman performance, better than the model."

Oermann emphasised that AI can never replace the physician-patient relationship. Instead, AI tools like NYUTron aim to "provide more information for physicians seamlessly at the point of care so they can make more informed decisions." He remarked that "the sweet spot for technology and medicine isn't that it's going to always deliver necessarily superhuman results, but it's going to really bring up that baseline."

Groundbreaking AI tool predicts patients' chances of death. Can it replace doctors?

The race to the White House has gotten murkier. Republican candidate Ron DeSantis has elevated his war of words with opponent Donald Trump to the next level with deepfake technology and AI-generated scandalous images. In a video released by the DeSantis War Room, the former US president can be seen hugging and even kissing the nose of his anathema, the former US chief medical adviser Dr Anthony Fauci.

Did Trump really kiss Fauci?

No, these images published by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' rapid response team are fake. They are generated using artificial intelligence technology and are as fake as the photos of Trump being arrested that went viral a couple of months back.

The video is a criticism of Trump's failure to fire Fauci, who was the United States' top infectious disease specialist at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, back when he was the president.

Fauci's push for Covid restrictions, as per Reuters, worked to turn him into a "boogeyman" for many Conservatives. Among those criticising Fauci's policies was Trump. In October 2020, the politician went as far as calling Dr Fauci a "disaster" that has been around for "500 years".

However, in spite of the often public thrashing, Trump refrained from firing Fauci.

Is the video completely fake?

As per Reuters, the video apparently includes some real footage of the former US president's press conferences and interviews.

However, the fake AI-generated content is shown with impudence at the 25-second mark. Here, around five seconds of the 35-second video display six images of Fauci and Trump. In three of them, the two men can be seen hugging or kissing.

Did Trump kiss Fauci? Ron DeSantis ups the ante with AI-generated fake images of two men

The internet is an amazing place, but it is also unforgiving. These days, any goof-up you do can end up online and it can make you go viral.
Crashes during driving tests

Students crashing the car during practical driving tests is actually fairly common.

As per a 2019 research by Group 1 Automotive, in the UK between 2014-2019, more than 3000 learners were in a vehicle collision during their practical driving tests. Between 2019 and 2019, another 695 crashed their vehicles during driving tests.

Since 2016, around 30 pedestrians have been hit by a moving vehicle engaged in a driving test.

Additionally, the report found that over five years, from 2017 to 2021, there was a 67 per cent increase in vehicle-on-vehicle collisions during practical driving tests in the UK.

It is not just the UK or Argentina, all over the world such accidents are very common.

Loss unites humanity as nothing else can. We've all lost someone we loved, and their deaths have left a space nothing and no one can fill. However, many startups are using the new technological capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) to try to do just that. As per an AFP news report, these firms use AI to allow you to talk to your deceased loved ones.

For someone dealing with the grief that comes with loss, this technology can be a boon, but it also raises ethical questions.

Re-animating the deceased

Nothing can bring back the people we've lost. However, this technology tries to capture a part of their essence, which can help provide you with some semblance of comfort.

There are many startups offering the service. One such company called DeepBrain AI has a programme called "Rememory".

As per the AI firm's head of development, Joseph Murphy, they create a digital replica of the deceased using hours of video.

"We don't create new content," says Murphy. The company says that it only tries to replicate what the person would say when alive.

The company's "Rememory" programme adheres to a policy of not generating new content. This includes sentences or statements that the deceased individual would not have uttered or written during their lifetime.

A Malaysian climber nearly escaped death after a Nepali sherpa guide carried him down from Mount Everest's peak in a "very rare" high-altitude rescue, according to a government official who spoke to Reuters.

Gelje Sherpa, 30, was guiding a Chinese client to the summit of Everest on May 18 when he noticed a Malaysian climber clinging to a rope and shivering from extreme cold in the "death zone" where temperatures can plummet to minus 30 degree Celsius (86F) or even lower.

Gelje hauled the climber 600 metres (1,900 feet) down from the Balcony area to the South Col, for over six hours, where Nima Tahi Sherpa, another guide, joined the rescue operation.

An online fraud scheme run via WhatsApp link and a fraudulent app fuelled by a rumours promising substantial profits from buying virtual animals, like pigs, ducks etc., has cost hundreds of thousands of rupees to villagers in India's state of Bihar. As reported by Boom Decode, the scheme had lured people to invest in pigs and other livestock online through a game, with the expectation of high returns.

Here's all you need to know:

How it all started

The origins of the online scam can be traced back to a WhatsApp message that circulated in Bihar, claiming that purchasing animals online could yield profits of up to thousands of rupees within a few months. The message propagated the idea that an online game called ‘Smile Rancher’ helped a middle-aged man win big by "investing" in the online purchase of livestock. As per the claims, the man won INR 20 lakh or $2 million.

The scheme

The report quotes an 18-year-old victim of the scheme, Suraj Kumar who revealed that people had to create an account by entering a six-digit password. Once that was done, they would find pictures of dozens of animals which they could buy.

After paying for the purchase, all they had to do was log in everyday and click on the animal. This would result in them getting paid a certain amount in the app's wallet.

"The most expensive was the peacock, which cost Rs 50,000. It would earn Rs 3,000 a day. Duck was the cheapest one which cost Rs 5,000 rupees, the app claimed to offer Rs 400 for it every day," said Kumar.

"One had to log in every day and click on the animal or bird that was bought. The earnings on the animals would come in the wallet of the account which was created in the app," he added.

Could this money be withdrawn?

Yes, but most times people would receive a server error.

The maximum limit for withdrawal from the application wallet was Rs 3000, however, people who purchased and bred these virtual animals said they would very often get error messages on attempting to withdraw money.

However, some people successfully withdrew small amounts of money. This only helped give people false hope.

As the word spread, more individuals became interested in investing and many people borrowed money or sold assets to enter the market.

But one day the app just stopped working.

Who owns ‘Smile Rancher’ and why haven’t app stores like Google Play Store or Apple App Store taken any action?

As per transaction details accessed by Decode, the money people would spend on these virtual animals would go to the account of Sewing SKY India Pvt Limited — an unlisted company which according to the Indian Ministry of Corporate Affairs website deals in fabrics and is registered in Telangana Hyderabad and belongs to Gangadhar Pathri and Ajay Kumar Pathri.

Application stores like Google Play Store or the Apple AppStore have been unable to take any action because the application is not available on these platforms. People downloaded the application via a specific link shared on WhatsApp.

The app is now defunct.

Who sent them the message?

As per the villagers, a man called Bhishma Pratap spread these rumours. They say that Pratap claimed that his uncle was the one who won Rs 20,00,000 ($24,190).

For those interested in earning extra money, Pratap created a WhatsApp group named "Ranchers no. 1". As the admin of the group, he started adding more and more villagers, he then sent the forwarded application link to the group, which had more than 60 members. Pratap left the group the same day the application stopped working.

How did so many people fall for the scam?

The application called itself a "breeding management investment company from the United States."

It noted that was involved in "offline investment promotion for major breeding pastures and looking for investors who work part-time in the breeding industry".

It further claimed that after 2020, i.e., the pandemic, the company started doing its business online and started seeking people from all over the world to join the breeding industry and "make money together".

For residents of the small Bihar village of Maulanagar, this seemed like a good idea to earn some extra money. Most of the village residents belong to a socially marginalised community called the Musahars.

Has anyone filed a complaint?

Kasim Khan, a self-proclaimed victim of the scam, reportedly took action against the fraudulent company by filing a complaint with the Consumer Complaints Court on July 22nd 2022. In his complaint, Khan stated that he had invested Rs 55,000 in the scheme and attempted to withdraw the amount after two days, but was unsuccessful despite multiple attempts. He alleges that the company, Breeding Management, had now ceased operations and had deceived thousands of individuals through their online scam.

Was it just the one Bihar village that got duped?

Unfortunately no, the app has reportedly spread far from Bihar and has reached Assam.

The people of the small Bihar village got duped in February 2022, and in early July last year, a gym trainer in Guwahati Assam also received the link to that game. He and his colleagues invested in the app and lost thousands of rupees.

'Seductress' roofies date, steals jewellery, diamond-studded Rolex watch worth thousands of dollars

Experts have raised concerns that next year's elections in the UK and the US may be plagued by a surge of AI-driven disinformation. They warn that the proliferation of Artificial Intelligence generated images, text, and deep fake videos, spread by swarms of AI-powered propaganda bots, could have a significant impact.

In recent days, concerns about AI have soared, particularly following breakthroughs in generative AI technology.

Why is AI a concern now?

As per the Guardian, while earlier waves of "propaganda bots" relied on simple pre-written messages or "paid trolls", tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney hold the ability to produce realistic text, images, and even voice on command. This has raised concerns about interactive election interference on a large scale.

A study by NewsGuard, an organisation that monitors misinformation, tested ChatGPT and Google's Bard chatbot and found that they were capable of generating false news narratives when prompted. This highlights the potential for AI tools to mass-produce variations of fake stories, which raises concerns about the deliberate dissemination of false information.

On Friday, NewsGuard also announced that there has been a two-fold increase in AI-generated news and information websites, which have more than doubled to 125 in two weeks.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's warning about ChatGPT and other AI models

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and the creator of ChatGPT, warned that the latest generation of AI models has the potential to manipulate users.

Highlighting the need for regulation, public education, and transparency regarding the use of AI, he said, "The general ability of these models to manipulate and persuade, to provide one-on-one interactive disinformation is a significant area of concern."

"Regulation would be quite wise: people need to know if they’re talking to an AI, or if content that they’re looking at is generated or not. The ability to really model … to predict humans, I think is going to require a combination of companies doing the right thing, regulation and public education," he added.

AI-powered disinformation

Professor Michael Wooldridge of the Alan Turing Institute identified AI-powered disinformation as his primary concern about the technology. He noted that generative AI can generate disinformation on an "industrial scale".

"Right now in terms of my worries for AI, it is number one on the list. We have elections coming up in the UK and the US and we know social media is an incredibly powerful conduit for misinformation. But we now know that generative AI can produce disinformation on an industrial scale."

He said chatbots like ChatGPT can produce tailored misinformation targeted at specific political groups or demographics, adding that "it's an afternoon's work for somebody with a bit of programming experience to create fake identities and just start generating these fake news stories."

AI-generated images

AI-generated imagery is another problem. Remember the pictures of Donald Trump getting arrested and the Pope in a 'dope' puffer jacket? That's the work of artificial intelligence.

Earlier this year, as these images went viral, many people raised concerns about the potential use of generated imagery to cause confusion and misinformation.

However, Sam Altman, while addressing US Senators, suggested that these concerns might be exaggerated or blown out of proportion. He compared AI-generated images to the earlier adoption of Photoshop.

He said that people eventually developed an understanding that images could be manipulated.

"Photoshop came on to the scene a long time ago and for a while people were really quite fooled by Photoshopped images – then pretty quickly developed an understanding that images might be Photoshopped."

However, in spite of Altman's statement, as AI capabilities advance, there are concerns that it is becoming increasingly difficult to trust things on social media and that as the technology develops further, the difficulty in differentiating between misinformation and purposeful disinformation will only increase.

AI and voice cloning

In January, voice cloning gained significant attention when a manipulated video of US President Joe Biden surfaced. The original footage, in which he discussed sending tanks to Ukraine, was altered using voice simulation technology to make it appear as though he was attacking transgender people. The doctored video was widely circulated on social media platforms.

The growing availability of voice cloning services, including the cloning of corporate executives and public figures, raises concerns about its potential misuse.

Recorded Future, a US cybersecurity firm, warned that rogue actors could sell voice cloning services online.

Alexander Leslie, an analyst with the firm, said that the technology is improving and poses a heightened threat as the US presidential election approaches.

"Without widespread education and awareness, this could become a real threat vector as we head into the presidential election," he said.

Steven Brill, the co-CEO of NewsGuard, expressed concern about the potential misuse of chatbot technology by malicious individuals to create varied versions of fake stories. He said, "the danger is someone using it deliberately to pump out these false narratives".

World's foremost public health agency, the World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday, cautioned against using artificial intelligence (AI) for public healthcare. It said that the data used by AI to reach decisions could be biased or misused and advised caution while using the technology.

As per the WHO, risks must be examined carefully before using AI-generated large language model tools (LLMs) like "ChatGPT, Bard, Bert and many others" to protect and promote human well-being and protect public health.

The health agency said that while it was enthusiastic about the potential AI holds, it has concerns over how the technology will be used.

It said, "There is concern that caution that would normally be exercised for any new technology is not being exercised consistently with LLMs."

Also read | 'Raise alarm on AI threats', academics appeal to health professionals

"This includes widespread adherence to key values of transparency, inclusion, public engagement, expert supervision, and rigorous evaluation."

As per the WHO, the "precipitous" adoption of untested AI systems could lead to errors by healthcare workers, which could harm patients. World's foremost public health agency, the World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday, cautioned against using artificial intelligence (AI) for public healthcare.

It said, "There is concern that caution that would normally be exercised for any new technology is not being exercised consistently with LLMs." Also read | 'Raise alarm on AI threats', academics appeal to health professionals "This includes widespread adherence to key values of transparency, inclusion, public engagement, expert supervision, and rigorous evaluation." As per the WHO, the "precipitous" adoption of untested AI systems could lead to errors by healthcare workers, which could harm patients. This, it warned, could "cause harm to patients, erode trust in AI and thereby undermine (or delay) the potential long-term benefits and uses of such technologies around the world." It further cautioned that artificial intelligence LLMs like ChatGPT and Bard that imitate understanding, processing, and producing human communication could be misused to "generate and disseminate highly convincing disinformation". This disinformation, as per the WHO, can be in textual, audio or video form and would be difficult to differentiate from reliable health content for the public. World Health Organization issues warning, says AI in healthcare poses risks, could be misused

In February, Toronto's three-term mayor John Tory resigned after a controversy shook the foundations of his reputation. Vying to replace Tory as the next mayor is a rescue dog and a candidate who promises that he is "definitely a real man and NOT three raccoons in a trench coat".

The mayoral race is interesting, to say the least.

Now, you might wonder what a dog stands for. Molly, the seven-year-old rescue dog's most significant concern as per her owner Toby Heaps, is the city's use of winter road salt. This, as per Heaps, hurts her paws.

Molly's owner as per the Guardian is her stand-in for the elections. Talking to reporters, Heaps said that a victory for the rescue dog could mean big things and that it could lead to more "civilised discourse" during council meetings.

Rescue dog, 'NOT three racoons in a suit,' and 100 more candidates sign-up for Toronto mayoral election race

It has long been said that Humans are 'social animals,' we thrive on being around people. We all know isolation can be emotionally taxing, which is why it has long been used as a form of punishment in jails. But can social isolation affect you mentally and impact your energy levels? New research shows that isolation affects your energy levels the same way as going without food does.

Researchers from the University of Vienna found that socially isolating for a period of eight hours has detrimental effects on a person. This long without company, a person's body experiences a fall in energy levels equivalent to the decrease that comes with starving for eight hours.

The research suggests that social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic may have had an unexpected energy toll on people.

Based on research carried out both in a laboratory setting and during the COVID-19 quarantine periods, the study suggests that social personality traits may also influence the individual's reaction to social isolation.

As per SciTechDaily, just as prolonged periods without food can lead to hunger, a lack of social interaction can lead to a craving response in the brain, driving us to seek social connections again.

This is supported by the "social homeostasis" theory, which proposes that there is a homeostatic system in place to independently regulate our need for social interaction.

Although our understanding of the psychological reactions to social isolation remains limited, the study’s authors propose that lowered energy may be part of our homeostatic response to a lack of social contact and a potential precursor of the more detrimental effects of long-term social isolation.

The study involved 30 female volunteers who, on three separate days, spent eight hours in isolation without social contact, without food, or with both social contact and food. They reported their stress, mood, and fatigue levels multiple times throughout the day, while physiological stress responses such as heart rate and cortisol were recorded by the scientists.

The results were compared with measurements from a study conducted during the lockdown in Austria and Italy in the spring of 2020.

Data from 87 participants who had spent at least an eight-hour period in isolation were used, and their stress and behavioural effects were assessed several times a day for seven days.

The results of the laboratory study led by Giorgia Silani from the University of Vienna showed similarities between social isolation and food deprivation, with both inducing lowered energy and heightened fatigue.

"In the lab study, we found striking similarities between social isolation and food deprivation. Both states induced lowered energy and heightened fatigue, which is surprising given that food deprivation literally makes us lose energy, while social isolation would not", said first authors Ana Stijovic and Paul Forbes.

The authors propose that lowered energy may be a part of our homeostatic response to a lack of social contact and a potential precursor of some more detrimental effects of long-term social isolation.

"It is well-known that long-term loneliness and fatigue are related, but we know little about the immediate mechanisms that underlie this link. The fact that we see this effect even after a short period of social isolation suggests that low energy could be a 'social homeostatic' adaptive response, which in the long run can become maladaptive," explains Silani.

When you were four, what did you want to be when you grew up? An astronaut, a superhero, or a unicorn? Most of us had big dreams inspired by our favourite cartoons, comics or storybook. But a seven-year-old boy has surprised the world by not just dreaming of becoming a famous designer but becoming one. The plot twist: his dreams are inspired by his past life, he says. Max Alexander, a first-grader claims he was the renowned fashion designer Gucci in his past life, and his dreams in this one are inspired by his work and passion in his previous birth. The magazine reports that these words were said, "with confidence". Gucci reincarnation: 7-year-old prodigy dressmaker claims to be renowned fashion designer in past life

An autistic 11-year-old girl has completed her masters and will soon be receiving the degree. The prodigy belongs to Mexico City and has an impressive IQ of 162 — higher than the 160 of the greatest ever physicist of this generation, Stephen Hawking.

The genius child, Adhara Pérez Sánchez, has an IQ that beats Albert Einstein — whose IQ is estimated to be around 160.

Adhara finished her High School education at the very young age of seven. Mirror UK reports that the genius girl will soon be awarded a masters and is currently working with the Mexican Space Agency. She is helping the space agency promote space exploration among the younger generations.

Her disciplines for the masters are also nothing short of impressive. She did a degree in systems and industrial engineering with a specialisation in mathematics from the Technological University of Mexico. These technical credentials at a very young make her stand out from everyone else her age.
