As Malik continues to terrorise batters with his pace, former Indian cricket team captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar recently came up with a hilarious piece of advice on how to tackle his speed. Gavaskar jokingly said the batters should look to go to the non-striker's end when facing Malik in the ongoing IPL 2022.

“Take a single and go to the non-striker’s end,” quipped Gavaskar on Star Sports when asked how batters should tackle Malik's brutal pace.

According to an IANS report, Sami’s personal best is 156.4 kmph during against Zimbabwe in 2003.

Sami explained that bowlers who have breached the 160 kmph were able to do it a couple of times in their career and as a result, they cannot be expected to replicate that kind of pace more often.

"Even if you look at bowling history overall, the bowlers who have crossed the 160 kph-limited have done it only once or twice. It`s not like they kept doing it continuously" he said in the interview.

Sensational batting by Rahul Tewatia (40 not out off 21) and Rashid Khan (31 not out off 11) in the slog overs overcame pacer Umran Malik`s maiden fifer (5/25) as Gujarat Titans beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets in a thrilling IPL 2022 match at the Wankhede Stadium, here on Wednesday.

Invited to bat first, brilliant fifties by Abhishek Sharma (65 off 42), Aiden Markram (56 off 40) and a late blitz by Shashank Singh (25 not out off 6) powered Sunrisers Hyderabad to 195/6 in 20 overs.

Chasing a big total, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill gave Gujarat a flying start. Saha, in particular, was very aggressive and dealt in boundaries, to take his team 59/0 at the end the powerplay.

It was Umran Malik, who gave SRH their first breakthrough by removing Shubman Gill (22) in the fourth ball of the 8th over. In the very next ball, he hit Hardik Pandya on the shoulder with a thunderbolt. In his second over, Umran again troubled Hardik (10) and eventually dismissed the Gujarat skipper with a short ball.

Both sides didn`t want to give any inch to their opposition at the halfway stage, GT had reached 91 for 2 with Saha and David Miller at the crease. Just when it looked like Saha and David had brought GT back into the game, Malik bagged his wicket by dismissing Saha. Saha (68 off 38) failed to dig out a yorker from Malik, leaving GT to 122/3, needing 74 more in 40. Umran completed his demolition job of the GT batting order in his final over when he blew away David Miller and Abhinav Manohar in back to back deliveries to record his first five-wicket haul in the IPL.

Gujarat were in a spot of bother at 140/5 after 16 overs with Tewatia and Rasid in the middle. The duo went on to crack a slew of shots to break open the game. With 35 needed off 12 balls, the left-handed Tewatia used the left-arm angle to his advantage by smacking T Natarajan for a boundary and six - slog-sweep over cow corner.

Gujarat needed 22 runs in the last over of the innings and Tewatia began on the right note by clubbing Marco Jansen over deep midwicket for another six but could eke out only a single off the next ball. Rashid then showcased his pyrotechnics and managed to smash three sixes in the four balls to take their team over the victory line.

Earlier, invited to bat first, Mohammed Shami drifted down the leg side to SRH opener Abhishek Sharma twice in the opening over of the innings to concede 11 runs. Umran's father Rashid is an elated parent after seeing the stupendous success of his ward. He himself admitted that he has become extremely popular, in his hometown, with people coming up to him to talk about Umran and praise him.&nbsp;

Rashid revealed that he was against Umran playing cricket. However, he now hopes that his son represents Team India.&nbsp;

"Everyone loves him (Umran) in the family. His sisters love him so much. When I was against him playing cricket, his sisters would support him," Rashid recalled.

"My only dream now is to see my son in an Indian team jersey. I want him to play in the World Cup some day. I am sure he will. He has reached this level and I am confident he will get there very soon. He will make the entire country proud," he added.

"When Umran is bowling, you could hear that the ball is hitting the bat. But also when you have a bowler like that bowling at 150 consistently, then you also need good slip catchers as the ball will travel at quite a speed," Raman added.

Raman also analysed that when it comes to express pace bowlers, they have a better chance of making their international debut much earlier compared to batters, who are doing well in IPL.

"If you look at our batting unit, we have a lot of experience and if you are an uncapped player making a mark as a specialist batter within No. 4, it is a bit difficult to get a look-in. After that you have multi-dimensional cricketers coming in.

"Also you will produce more quality batters than bowlers. Therefore when a special bowler comes in the horizon, he is bound to create a certain degree of interest," Raman explained.

Former selector Devang Gandhi, however, feels that raw pace can be counter-productive as batters at international level can score quick runs.

"I believe that India will bank on experience going into the World Cup considering that Australian pitches for the ICC tourney will be great for batting.

"But having said that, in the run-up to the World T20 you can check out on various options and there is no harm if they decide to try out Umran and see what he can bring to the table," Gandhi, a member of the last selection committee, said.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a disappointing campaign in IPL 2021 last year as they finished at the bottom of the table after managing only three wins in their 14 league matches.

SRH had sacked David Warner as their captain midway through their campaign in IPL 2021 before appointing Kane Williamson as their permanent skipper. Warner was released by the franchise along with ace spinner Rashid Khan as SRH retained only three players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction last month. They retained Williamson along with two uncapped Indian talents - Umran Malik and Abdul Samad to build a squad from the scratch.

SRH spent big at the mega auction and roped in some big names like Nicholas Pooran, Marco Jansen, Aiden Markram and Romario Shepherd among others. They also bought back their pace duo of the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar and yorker specialist T Natarajan.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have retained Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, and Umran Malik in front of the IPL 2022 big auction. Whereas Punjab Kings retained Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh.

All the IPL teams&nbsp;had to announce their retained&nbsp;players till November 30. As&nbsp;two additional franchises have been added in IPL 2022, Lucknow and Ahmedabad,&nbsp;a mega auction will take place before of next year's event.

Therefore, each of the existing eight IPL teams was asked to retain&nbsp;a maximum of four players. There can be a maximum of three domestic&nbsp;players and two overseas&nbsp;players among these four players. Teams might decide&nbsp;to keep one, two, three, or four players or even opt for no retentions.

Kane Williamson, two uncapped Indian players retained by SRH, PBKS let go off KL Rahul

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Umran Malik impressed with his raw pace on his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday. The 21-year-old right-arm pacer left many in awe of his speed when he clocked 151.03 kmph (93.84 mph) in his very first over and set the record for the fastest delivery bowled by an Indian pacer in IPL 2021 so far.

Hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, Malik was assisting the Sunrisers Hyderabad batsmen as a net bowler in training before he was roped in full-time as a replacement for left-arm speedster T Natarajan, who was ruled out due to COVID-19. Malik earned his maiden cap for SRH against KRK and bowled at a good pace consistently.

Speaking about his rise and the secret behind his sheer pace, Parvez Rasool, the captain of the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team said playing tennis ball cricket helped the 21-year-old massively in improving as a bowler. Rasool said Malik was always fast but the way he bowled on his debut was a performance of another level.

“He is a very talented boy. When I played him in the nets, he was quick. Woh bahot teekha thaa (he was pretty fast) but this was at a different level," Rasool was quoted as saying by PTI.

“He was literally hurrying the batters with sheer pace. I was very proud to see him hold his own at such a big stage,” he added.

Rasool revealed Malik did not receive any kind of formal coaching during his initial days and that playing tennis ball cricket helped him enhance his pace. Malik did not manage to get a wicket on his debut for SRH but finished with impressive figures of 27/0 in his four overs as SRH lost the game by six wickets, failing to defend a low-key total of 115 runs.

However, Umran pipped him with a delivery of over 150 kph to hold the record for the fastest ball by an Indian bowler in IPL 2021 so far.

Umran was taken in as a short term replacement for T Natarajan. He was also a part of the Hyderabad contingent as a net bowler. He has previously played one T20 and List A match for Jammu and Kashmir and has picked up a total of four wickets.&nbsp;
