<p>"Within 10 to 12 days of his birth he was already appearing in all the national and international media -- and won a beauty contest," a proud Narejo says.</p>

<p>"Within 30 days he became so popular that even a famous personality might take 25 to 30 years to achieve this level of fame."</p>

<p>Simba's ears are so long that Narejo has to fold them over his back to stop the little bleater from standing on them.</p>

<p>Narejo has also design a harness which lets Simba carry his ears around easily.</p>

<p>Narejo is wary of the attention Simba has attracted -- including from rival breeders -- and has resorted to prayer and tradition to try to fend off any ill will.</p>

<p>"We recite Koranic verses and blow on him to cast away the evil eye," Narejo said.</p>

<p>"Following a long tradition we inherited from our elders, we have fastened a black thread around him that is fortified with Koranic verses."<br />
Narejo plans to raise Simba as a stud to promote the image of Pakistan as a top goat breeding nation.</p>

<p>"Simba's Pakistan name must roam the whole world," he said.</p>

<p>Conceived in almost hysterical circumstances in Paris in 1920, the Spitsbergen treaty gives the citizens of 46 countries the right to exploit the Arctic archipelago which is now officially known by its Norwegian name of Svalbard. Before then it was regarded as "terra nullus", meaning owned by nobody.</p>

<p>It was possibly the only international treaty ever conceived in bed by two gay men. The two key diplomats who drew up the treaty in Paris in the aftermath of World War I were having an adulterous affair at the time.</p>

<p>As reported by AFP, &nbsp;the influential former Norwegian diplomat Sverre Jervell said, "It's an epic tale."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The Norwegian ambassador Fritz Wedel Jarlsberg was having a homosexual relationship with the French foreign ministry's legal advisor, Henri Fromageot.</p>

<p>"The treaty was drafted in bed," he added.</p>

<p>Jarlsberg wrote the first article giving Norway sovereignty over Svalbard and Fromageot added the following ones "saying Norway didn't have complete responsibility.</p>

<p>"When the text was sent to Oslo, the foreign minister was really worried. He was against it because he was afraid of the Russians," who had been major players in the region until the Russian Revolution and civil war that followed threw the country into chaos.</p>

In reality, however, only two nations Norway and Russia have made much use of their rights, as reported by AFP.</p>

<p>The European Union of which Norway is not a member but is associated through the European Economic Area has unilaterally given permits to its fleets to fish for cod and snow crab within the 200-mile zone.</p>

<p>But apparently, mosquitoes do sleep. Researchers from the University of Cincinnati can attest to that. Not only this, they've also concluded that if mosquitoes are sleep deprived, they prefer to sleep rather than go on blood-sucking frenzy.</p>

<p>So in essence, mosquitoes do value sleep, but only their own.</p>

<p>To check when the mosquitoes slept, researchers released the insects in small enclosures inside laboratory and used cameras and infrared sensors to keep an eye on them.</p>

<p>They determined that mosquitoes slept when their abdomens dropped to ground and hind legs drooped.</p>

<p>Some of the mosquitoes were then kept in clear tubes and were sleep deprived for 12 hours. This was done by vibrating the tubes every few minutes. After that, their reaction to a possible host was tested by inserting a pad of artificial sweat.</p>

<p>It was found that sleep-deprived mosquitoes were markedly less interested in food and preferred instead to catch a few Zs.</p>

<p>The study has been published in Journal of Experimental Biology.</p>

<p>Such studies may be useful to control population of mosquitoes by knowing their body cycles.</p>

Doze over dine: Sleepy mosquitoes ignore food, says a study

<p>A university in the United States has congratulated a cat for attending every Zoom lecture with her owner.</p>

<p>Francesca Bourdier, who was forced to spend the majority of her college experience at home, used the Zoom app for online classes during her pandemic.</p>

<p>"I was pretty much at my apartment for most of the time and I had my cat next to me. Whenever I would have my Zoom lecture on, it's like she almost wanted to listen in on it, and she would always just sit by my laptop," she told Fox7.</p>

<p>Expressing her happiness that she wasn't alone in achieving the milestone of graduating, she wrote on Instagram, “My cat attended every zoom lecture I had so we will BOTH be graduating from THE University of Texas at Austin together.”</p>

<p>Vicky Umodu, a resident of California, USA, was furnishing her house and bagged a deal online for a sofa. When the sofa was delivered she observed a lump amid the cushions.</p>

<p>Well, it is easy to ignore such a thing&nbsp;thinking that transport may have caused slight deformation of the cushions. But Umodu looked deep into the apparent problem.</p>

<p>"I just moved in, and I don't have anything in my house," she told ABC7 from her home in Colton, near Los Angeles this week.</p>

<p>"I was so excited, so we picked it up and brought it in."&nbsp;</p>

<p>She got the surprise of her life when she found several envelope stuffed with cash. On counting, the amount came to be USD 36,000!</p>

<p>"I was just telling my son, come, come, come! I was screaming, this is money! I need to call the guy."</p>

<p>To her credit, Umodu called the previous owners of the sofa who were more than thankful. Though they could not figure out how did the cash end up there in the first place.</p>

<p>The previous owners were clearing out the home of a loved one who had recently died and had decided to sell the couch.</p>

<p>By way of thanking her, the family gifted a surprised Umodu more than $2,000 -- enough to buy the refrigerator she needs for her new home.</p>

<p>"I was not expecting a dime," she said.</p>

Woman finds USD 36k in couch she bought, returns the money

A novelist in US who wrote an essay&nbsp;titled "How To Murder Your Husband" has been found guilty of murdering her husband. She shot her husband twice through the chest. <p>Nancy Crampton Brophy (71) was found guilty of murdering her husband Daniel Brophy. The jury in Portland, Oregon took eight hours to deliberate on Wednesday to reach their conclusion.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Prosecutors said the writer, whose "Wrong Never Felt So Right" series of novels include "The Wrong Husband" and "The Wrong Lover," had been struggling financially before she shot her husband twice through the heart in June 2018 at a culinary institute where he worked.</p>

<p>Crampton Brophy had denied the charge against her. She insisted that security camera footage that put her at the scene of the crime merely showed her scouting for writerly inspiration.</p>

<p>She says a missing gun (suspected by police to be the murder weapon) was purchased for research for a novel. She also claimed that she was not after hundreds of thousands of dollars in life assurance she would get after her husband's death.</p>

<p>As per the local media, Crampton Brophy's lawyer plans to appeal the conviction</p>

<p>"Nancy Brophy loved her husband," attorney Kristen Winemiller told the jury at the trial. "You can see that in her eyes every time she talked about him. Her eyes lit up, they absolutely twinkled."</p>

<p>Prosecutor Shawn Overstreet laid out reams of evidence showing how Crampton Brophy had plotted to kill her husband, who was 63.</p>

<p>"It’s not just about the money. It’s about the lifestyle Nancy desired that Dan could not give her," he said during the trial.</p>

<p>Crampton Brophy had rejected claims of penury when she took to the stand last week, insisting her monetary woes had long been resolved.</p>

<p>"I do better with Dan alive financially than I do with Dan dead," she said.</p>

<p>Crampton Brophy faces life imprisonment.</p>

Novelist writes 'How to murder your husband' and actually kills her spouse

<p>Mcdonald's is a fast-food major across the world. There are millions of fans of its burgers worldover. The fast-food giant does have its own share of critics due to negative effects of fast food on health. But this man would certainly not be one of McD opponents.</p>

<p>Donald&nbsp;Gorske, an American man, is celebrating 50 years of his unique affair with the brand. The Wisconsin resident has eaten a whopping 32,340 Big Macs as of last August, says Guinness Book of World Records (GWR).</p>

<p>The huge tally means that Gorske has been eating at least one Big Mac a day.</p>

<p>Gorske marked the 50-year anniversary by eating a Big Mac at the local McDonald's in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.</p>

<p>The outlet even commemorated Don's 50-year association with the brand by putting up a board outside the outlet.</p>

<p>“Congrats Don on 50 years of Macs.” read the board. The outlet even removed the letter D-O-N from McDonald's sign for Don's name to feature in it.</p>

Each of these cats was then shown photos of other cats and when the photos were shown, a recording of the owner's voice taking name of the cat was played.</p>

<p>The recording would either play the cat's actual name (congruent condition) or some other cat's name (incongruent condition)</p>

<p>It was seen that cat responded differently in these both cases. It was also seen that incongruent conditions (when name of the cat didn't match that played in the recording) resulted in cats (looking at photo) stare for a longer time, as if puzzled due to mismatched information.<br />

<p>This may sound funny but engineers from University of Cambridge have actually done this. No, they didn't randomly collect algae and went "Splendid!" over tea as it generated electricity. Read on.</p>

<p>The engineers were able to successfully run a microprocessor for more than six months using a current generated by cyanobacteria (blue-green algae). Ultimately, these engineers want to provide power for more electric devices.</p>

<p>"The growing Internet of Things needs an increasing amount of power, and we think this will have to come from systems that can generate energy, rather than simply store it like batteries," says Christopher Howe, a biochemist.</p>

<p>Internet of Things is connecting a large number of appliances. But some of these are in such remote locations that costant power supply may be a problem. In such conditions, a solution like deriving energy from a living organism makes a lot of sense.</p>

<p>"Our photosynthetic device doesn't run down the way a battery does because it's continually using light as the energy source," says Howe.</p>

<p>The Bio-photovoltaic cell consists of aluminium wool. The biological part consists of blue-green algae.</p>

<p>An AA-battery-sized version of the cell was able to produce just over over four microwatts per square centimetre of power.</p>

Engineers from Cambridge run computer on algae

<p>NASA has detected a monster marsquake on Earth's neighbour. We already know that the red planet experiences quakes regularly. But this one, detected by NASA's InSight Mars Lander is mother of them all.</p>

<p>The marsquake was of 'magnitude 5 temblor'. It took place on May 4, 2022. The marsquake took place on 1222nd Martian day of the InSight lander's mission, said NASA in a press release.</p>

<p>Last most intense marsquake was of the magnitude 4.2 and it took place on August 25, 2021.</p>

<p>The latest 'monster' marsquake would be a medium-sized quake if it took place on Earth but on Mars, it is close to the "upper limit of what scientists hoped to see on Mars during InSight’s mission" said NASA.</p>

Scientists will be analyzing this data to learn new things about Mars for years to come.”</p>

<p>A man from Indian state of Madhya Pradesh (MP) wrote a letter to the state's home minister after he did not get high after consuming two bottles of liquor.</p>

<p>The man, identified as Lokendra Sethiya by Network 18 bought four quarters of liquor from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. Even after consuming two bottles, he failed to get high.</p>

<p>He then wrote a letter to state Home Minister Narottam Mishra saying he suspected that the alcohol was spurious and adulterated. Sethiya even approached the excise department. He reportedly submitted a letter to the excise officials. In addition to that, he gave them the remaining two bottles of alcohol as evidence.</p>

<p>The news report says that excise officials have assured that man that they would look into the matter.</p>

<p>However, the man does not look satisfied.</p>

<p>He has threatened that he will approach the consumer court if excise department does not take action against liquor contractor. He has asked excise officials to verify the contents of the bottle he has submitted.</p>

<p>In spite of his appeals to authorities, there was reportedly no action on his complaints till May 6.</p>

<p>“I drink and also earn but what about those who don’t earn and only drink,” he added. He was quoted by news outlet Network 18.</p>

<p>Casey White, 38, has been in prison on charges of murdering two people, and if convicted, faces the death penalty as per state law. Vicki White, 56, has been accused of assisting the murderer's escape, according to multiple media reports.</p>

<p>The two have vanished without a trace and have now been missing for around five days.</p>

<p>For those who are curious about the surname 'White,' the sheriff's office has stated that while the two share a last name, they are not connected.</p>

<p>Sheriff Rick Singleton said Vicki is an exemplary employee with 17 years of experience, but he is not sure whether Vicki White participated in the escape willingly or was coerced.</p>

<p>He said police are probing whether Vicki helped the suspect or was kidnapped, but they believe she is in danger either way, the sheriff said at a press meet.</p>

The video is being loved&nbsp;due to the sheer indomitable spirit of a young man who is the sole star shining bright in this clip.</p>

<p>In this video, he is running and running, crossing more distance than most of us can cross in a single sprint. The 19-year-old is Pradeep Mehra who works at a McDonald's in Noida Sector 16 near Indian capital New Delhi.</p>

<p>When Kapri saw this boy running in the dead of the night with a bag on his back, he thought the boy was in trouble and offered to give him lift in a car he was driving.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The object is a potato (or not!). A couple in New Zealand dug a mammoth of a 'potato'. It weighed more than 7 kilograms. Usually, couple of sacks full of potatoes weigh this much. So naturally, Colin Craig-Brown and his wife Donna thought that way was clear for their names to be immortalised as diggers of world's biggest potato.</p>

<p>The potato was dug up last August and it certainly tasted like one, as per Colin who has been quoted in media reports.</p>

<p>So began the work of sending photos and paperwork to get their names etched in Guinness Book of World Records over a potato.</p>

Not only remains of such an old incident were found near beach where literally millions have swum, the cargo on the boat was found preserved in almost perfect condition when the shipwreck was detected three years ago.</p>

<p>The merchant vessel was likely anchored near shore when rough weather caused it to hit the rocks and then sink.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Local authorities quickly intervened and studied the shipwreck, known as Ses Fontanelles wreck, with the help of divers and university experts. The contents of the sunken vessels were recovered in last few months.</p>

<p>What has surprised experts is the near-perfect condition that cargo was found in. As per a report in The Guardian, about 300 amphorae (clay jars) have been recovered. These jars contained various things. The report says that a leather shoe, a rope shoe, a cooking pot, an oil lamp have been found among other things.</p>

<p>“The aim is to preserve everything there and all the information it contains, and that couldn’t be done in a single emergency intervention,” said Jaume Cardell, local council's head of archaeology as quoted by The Guardian</p>

You curse your life, this world and your existence. But how about a trillion pounds as a compensation for your discomfort? Life is suddenly a rosy picture. That web series can go...play itself. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Such a thing (not involving a web series) actually happened in the UK when Northern PowerGrid, a power distribution company, wrote away mother of all compensation cheques worth more than 2.3 trillion pounds to 74 customers for having experienced blackouts. These blackouts had taken place when storm Arwen hit the country in November last year.</p>

<p>This is surely an overkill right? Trillion pounds for a power outage.</p>

<p>One of the recepient of these cheques thought the same and posted an image of the cheque online</p>

<p>“Thank you for our compensation payment @Northpowergrid for the several days we were without power following #stormarwen. Before I bank the cheque, however, are you 100% certain you can afford this? #trillionpounds.” tweeted Gareth Hughes.</p>

<p>Brain activity changes too during hangover. Brain activity involving dopamine is lowered during hangover. Dopamine normally plays important role in fighting anxiety.</p>

<p>A video from Corvid Cleaning showed crows picking up training sticks and dropping them into a bin. In order to encourage crows to clean up more, peanuts are dispensed as a reward when they successfully pick up and dump cigarette butts.</p>

<p>But what if crows dump something else in the bin? Like a leaf or some such? In such a case the reward of peanuts is not dispensed.</p>

<p>"The bin will tell litter apart from other items such as stones and leaves and only reward litter. The birds take part as much or as little as they wish, and the only human involvement is to empty the bin and refill the food," read a description on the website of Corvid Cleaning.</p>

Will work for food: Company trains crows to pick up trash from streets

<p>What excavations would reveal of the centuries gone by cannot always be known with the greatest certainty. Though we know a lot about history, a lot needs to be still unravelled.</p>

<p>Researchers have now found skeletal remains of a man buried near a headless horse. The remains have been found in Knittlingen in southern Germany. Researchers think that the man and the horse were buried 1400 years ago when the area was ruled by Merovingian dynasty.</p>

<p>But why the horse is headless is still somewhat of a mystery.</p>

<p>Researchers believe the man was member of local elite.</p>

<p>"He stood in a 'chain of command' with the Merovingian kings on its top, which meant he was obliged to participate in the king's campaigns," Folke Damminger, an archaeologist in charge of research at the site, told Live Science in an email.</p>

<p>Damminger added that "most probably the decapitation [of the horse] was part of the burial ceremony".&nbsp;<br />

According to him, the man's family members may have wanted him to appear wealthy and this may be the reason why he was buried with a horse.</p>

<p>Another reason that is being put forward is that the horse was buried for the man to have a vehicle in the afterlife.</p>

Researchers have now found skeletal remains of a man buried near a headless horse. The remains have been found in Knittlingen in southern Germany. Researchers think that the man and the horse were buried 1400 years ago when the area was ruled by Merovingian dynasty. But why the horse is headless is still somewhat of a mystery. Researchers believe the man was member of local elite. "He stood in a 'chain of command' with the Merovingian kings on its top, which meant he was obliged to participate in the king's campaigns," Folke Damminger, an archaeologist in charge of research at the site, told Live Science in an email. Damminger added that "most probably the decapitation [of the horse] was part of the burial ceremony". According to him, the man's family members may have wanted him to appear wealthy and this may be the reason why he was buried with a horse. Another reason that is being put forward is that the horse was buried for the man to have a vehicle in the afterlife. The head of the horse has not yet been found.
