Former Pakistan speedster Aaqib Javed recalls his match days against Sachin Tendulkar in an exclusive conversation with the fans during GloFans Q20 fan series. The former Pakistan Cricketer hailed Sachin Tendulkar as the most impactful cricketer of his era.

Recalling his encounters with the Little Master, Aaqib Javed said that Sachin rightfully ruled the game in his era.
Significantly, it has been 31 years since Sachin had started his iconic journey in international cricket as a 16-year-old against the lethal pace attack.

Aaqib also reckoned that Sachin has been quite successful in leaving an impact on the game by the virtue of the talent he possessed. As part of GloFans Q20 special fan series, Aaqib Javed answered exclusive questions framed by the fans.

Aaqib, who featured in 22 Tests and 163 ODIs for his country, in a freewheeling chat with GloFans Q20, expressed: “Sachin created 100 per cent impact on the game with the quality or talent he had. He held the numero uno spot in the game for several years as he was a seasoned cricketer.”

Answering to yet another question by a fan on 7/37 in 1991 and how fans hated Javed during that, Aaqib said that “lack of technology gave a lot of power to the Umpire at that time and whatever the Umpire said, was considered as the final decision”.

Aaqib, 48, served the Green Brigade for a period of nine years. In first-class cricket, the former right-arm pacer scalped 358 wickets from 121 games. However, he hogged the limelight after returning with exceptional figures of 7/37 in an ODI game, that too, against arch-rivals India in 1991. In the process, Aaqib had also claimed a hat-trick after he packed back Ravi Shastri, Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin, who all were trapped before the stumps.

The Men in Blue were at the receiving end in the contest, losing the summit clash of the triangular Wills Trophy by a mammoth 72-run margin in Sharjah. Overall, Aaqib's best performances in internationals mostly came vs. India, against whom he claimed 54 wickets from 39 ODIs, averaging 24.64, which was 6.79 runs lower than his career ODI average.

Notably, four of his six ODI ‘Man of the Match’ awards were also against India.

The Australian cricket team is set to form a “barefoot circle” during the upcoming series against India to express their opposition to racism and celebrate Aboriginal culture. Australian vice-captain Pat Cummins announced the move on Monday as he said the decision came after talks within the team.

Earlier during Australia’s tour of England in September, former West Indies Michael Holding had criticized Australian team for not taking a knee.

Gareth Southgate admitted he was impressed with Jack Grealish as the England winger sparkled and Harry Maguire enjoyed a moment of redemption in Thursday's 3-0 friendly win against the Republic of Ireland.

Just 48 hours after the resignation of English Football Association chairman Greg Clarke following his offensive comments about the BAME and LGBT communities, Southgate's side showed no signs of being distracted by the controversy.

After being sent off in his previous England appearance against Denmark, Maguire captained his country for the first time and scored the opening goal at Wembley.

It was a welcome boost for Maguire, who has endured a difficult campaign marred by his Greek court case and poor form for Manchester United and England.

Jadon Sancho bagged England's second goal before the interval and Dominic Calvert-Lewin made it three with a second-half penalty.

That was enough to seal England's first success against the Republic since 1985.

Grealish, starting against the country he represented at youth level, caught the eye on the left flank as he justified the constant calls from fans and pundits for the Aston Villa star to be given a sustained run in the team.

"The two players in those roles, Jadon and Jack, they've got the freedom to go either side of the pitch and try and create overloads," Southgate said.

"I thought at times both of them did that really well. Of course, as soon as they are turned and running at people, they are a real problem for the opponent."

There was a landmark moment for Jude Bellingham, who became the third youngest player to represent England when the 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder came on for Mason Mount in the 73rd minute.

Bellingham, who left Birmingham to join Dortmund earlier this year, is behind only Theo Walcott and Wayne Rooney in the list of England's youngest players.

The teenager is one for the future, but Southgate will have been more encouraged by the way his understudies impressed after he rested Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson before the Nations League games against Belgium on Sunday and Iceland next Wednesday.

"I was very pleased with the way the boys played. A lot of young players, a lot of inexperienced players, we used the ball very well, created a lot of chances, could have been more comfortable if we'd taken some of those chances but overall very pleased," Southgate said.

"We were a bit slow at the start but that's understandable. It's not a team that have had a lot of time to work together.

"The longer they went on, some of the interplay, some of the play between our attacking 10s and our wing-backs in particular was very good."

Southgate had urged England to put the focus back on football after Clarke's self-inflicted demise triggered a "turbulent week" and his team were always in control in their first meeting with the Republic since 2015.

- Temporary reprieve -

Maguire put England ahead in the 18th minute when Harry Winks crossed back into the area and the defender rose above Shane Duffy to head past Darren Randolph for his second goal in an England shirt.

Sancho has been struggling to find his peak form for Borussia Dortmund this season, but the winger showed his quality to double England's lead in the 31st minute.

Grealish teed him up on the left side of the Ireland area and Sancho shifted the ball onto his right foot before curling a low strike past Randolph.

Bukayo Saka won a penalty in the 56th minute when he wriggled past Cyrus Christie, who responded with a clear trip on the Arsenal wing-back.

Everton striker Calvert-Lewin stroked the spot-kick high into the roof of the net for his second England goal.

Manchester United's Dean Henderson had come on for his England debut at half-time, replacing Nick Pope in goal, but he was barely tested as the hosts cruised to the final whistle.

Maguire, Grealish shine as England sink Republic of Ireland

Argentina had to come from behind to draw 1-1 with Paraguay in a World Cup qualifier at La Bombonera on Thursday, and Lionel Messi had what might have been a winning goal disallowed in the second half.

A Nicolas Gonzalez goal brought Argentina back level after Angel Romero's penalty put Paraguay in front at the home of Boca Juniors, where fans were absent because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The result ends Argentina's perfect start in their bid to qualify for the 2022 finals in Qatar, after Lionel Scaloni's team claimed narrow wins last month at home to Ecuador and away to Bolivia.

They thought they had gone in front in the 58th minute when Giovani Lo Celso pulled the ball back for captain Messi to sidefoot low into the net, but the goal was eventually disallowed by the Brazilian officials for a foul by Gonzalez at the beginning of the move.

At least Argentina recovered from falling behind midway through the first half, when Romero -- who plays in Argentina for San Lorenzo -- converted a penalty awarded for a foul by Lucas Martinez Quarta on Newcastle United's Miguel Almiron.

The home side lost midfielder Exequiel Palacios to injury soon after, but his replacement Lo Celso delivered the corner for VfB Stuttgart forward Gonzalez to head in the equaliser four minutes before half-time.

After his disallowed goal, a frustrated Messi also had a free-kick tipped onto the crossbar by Paraguay goalkeeper Anthony Silva.

Paraguay remain unbeaten having previously drawn with Peru and won in Venezuela.

The sides are in action again on Tuesday, when Argentina play Peru in Lima and Paraguay host Bolivia.

Thursday's other game in South American qualifying saw Ecuador claim a second win in three outings in the round-robin tournament as Carlos Gruezo's late penalty gave them a 3-2 victory over Bolivia in La Paz.

The action continues on Friday with Brazil notably hosting Venezuela in Sao Paulo as they chase a third straight win in qualifying.

They will be without Neymar, who has not recovered from an adductor injury suffered playing for Paris Saint-Germain recently.

Messi denied as Argentina held by Paraguay in World Cup qualifying

The Pittsburgh Steelers hope to have quarterback Ben Roethlisberger at the helm Sunday after a Covid-19 scare as they put their unbeaten NFL record on the line against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Roethlisberger was among four Steelers players placed on the team's Covid-19 reserve list after close contact with an individual who tested positive, but could return from a five-day isolation period if he continues to test negative as the Steelers seek to maintain their one-game lead over the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs atop the AFC.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he wasn't worried that the 38-year-old Roethlisberger could be stepping into a key AFC North division contest without benefit of any mid-week practice.

"I'm not overly concerned about it," said Tomlin, whose team rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday and reach 8-0 for the first time in club history.

"This guy has been doing this job for 17 years. He's got snap experience that he can call upon. We're still going to work extremely hard virtually to prepare.

"A lot of his work is above the neck anyway in terms of his preparation. I have very little concern about it to be quite honest with you."

A greater concern might be a Steelers pass defense that has struggled in recent weeks.

They have a chance to silence doubters as they take on a Bengals team whose rookie quarterback Joe Burrow leads the division in passing yards but counts three defeats against division opponents among five losses this year.

Veteran defensive end Cam Heyward says he and the rest of the Steelers are unimpressed by those who remain unimpressed by Pittsburgh's 8-0 record.

"They hate us because they ain't us," Heyward said. "We don't really care what's going on outside of here. If it doesn't look pretty, who cares? We’re 8-0.

"For all the guys looking, and saying 'It's got to look like this,' one thing I can say is the Super Bowl winner hasn't been determined."

The team touted by many as the top Super Bowl contender from the AFC, the reigning champion Chiefs, have a bye this week, but the AFC East-leading Buffalo Bills, who pushed their record to 7-2 with a 44-34 triumph over the Seattle Seahawks last week, try to maintain momentum when they take on the Cardinals in Arizona in a game that promises plenty of offensive fireworks.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen passed for 415 yards and three touchdowns and added a rushing TD in Buffalo's win over Seattle.

- Brady seeks bounce-back -

The Cardinals, meanwhile rank first in the NFL with 422.0 yards per game and Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray passed for 283 yards and three touchdowns and added 106 rushing yards with one rushing TD last week in his team's narrow loss to the Miami Dolphins.

While the Cardinals will be seeking to bounce back, the Dolphins will try to notch a fifth straight victory when they host the Los Angeles Chargers in a battle of young quarterbacks.

Tua Tagovailoa, selected fifth overall in the 2020 draft, piloted two fourth-quarter scoring drives as the Dolphins rallied to beat the Cardinals last week.

Seeking to add to his two wins in two career starts, Tagovailoa will face a Chargers team led by number-six draft pick Justin Herbert, who has passed for 2,146 yards and 17 touchdowns in his first seven NFL games.

Sunday's meeting is only the seventh NFL game involving rookie starting quarterbacks both taken in the top six in the NFL draft.

Elsewhere, superstar Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers seek to bounce back from a 38-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints when they travel to North Carolina to take on the Panthers.

The Bucs beat the Panthers in week two and are under pressure to produce another win against their NFC South rival as the race for playoff berths heats up.

England manager Gareth Southgate is relishing their European Championship meeting with Scotland next year and said he is hopeful supporters will be allowed to watch the contest at Wembley Stadium. Speaking after England’s 3-0 friendly win over Ireland on Thursday at an empty Wembley because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Southgate said he was delighted Scotland were able to qualify for their first European Championship finals since 1996. Steve Clarke’s side secured a 5-4 penalty shootout playoff win in Serbia with the game ending 1-1 after extra time to book their spot in the 24-nation tournament’s Group D, which includes England, Czech Republic and 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia. “What a game. That makes our lives more complicated for sure. It will hopefully be a fantastic occasion with fans, but that’s the one thing that none of us can control,” Southgate told the BBC. “I’m particularly pleased for Steve. He’s a great guy and has done a great job. That will be a humdinger of a game. “They’ve got a team that’s improving quickly with a lot of players who have emerged in the last two or three years - the likes of John McGinn, Scott McTominay, Kieran Tierney, Andrew Robertson.” Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish, who started for England against Ireland and impressed, said he was “over the moon” that England would face Scotland in June. “It’s brilliant for everyone involved, especially if we can get Wembley full by the time that comes around. Fingers crossed for that because it’ll be an unbelievable day,” Grealish added. “One of my good friends (Aston Villa team-mate) John McGinn gets to play at the Euros, so I’m delighted for him as well.” England next play Nations League A Group 2 games against Belgium on Sunday and Iceland three day later.

Virat Kohli's absence in three Tests doesn't make Australia favourites: Nathan Lyon

Rohit Sharma played the last three matches of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 as he led the Mumbai outfit to their fifth IPL trophy. As Rohit took the field for MI’s matches in IPL 2020 in the latter half of the tournament, confusion grew over his fitness as the Indian selectors hadn’t name Rohit in the limited-overs squad for the series against Australia.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has now said that Rohit Sharma is still only 70 per cent fit while clarifying this is the reason why he is not picked for the ODI and T20I series against Australia. After much deliberation, Rohit was recently added to the Indian Test squad.

"Rohit is still 70 per cent [fit]," Ganguly said in an interview with The Week when asked about Rohit. "Why don't you find out from Rohit himself? That is why he is still not picked for the ODIs and T20s down under. He has been added to the Test squad."
Rohit had suffered a hamstring tear in his left leg on October 18 and went on to miss Mumbai Indians’ next four matches. However, he came back in the last three and helped the Mumbai outfit lift their fifth IPL trophy.

It is likely that Rohit would undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru before joining the Indian squad in Australia for the four-match Test series, starting December 17. He still has to pass a fitness test and hasn’t travelled with the Indian squad to Australia.

Another player, who is injured is Wriddhiman Saha. The gloveman picked up hamstring injuries on both his legs. Ganguly has said that the BCCI, Indian physios and the players know about the injury status and that is enough for the board while adding that Wriddhiman will be fit for the Test series against Australia.

"I think people don't know how the BCCI works. The BCCI trainers, physio and Wriddhi himself know that he has two hamstring issues. People don't understand injuries, that is why they talk rubbish"

He has been added to the Test squad." Rohit had suffered a hamstring tear in his left leg on October 18 and went on to miss Mumbai Indians’ next four matches. However, he came back in the last three and helped the Mumbai outfit lift their fifth IPL trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to roll out a tender for two more teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after Diwali. The franchises have raised a few questions related to next players’ auction with some worried about the quality of squads if 10 teams will play IPL 2021 in place of usual 8 teams.

Many franchises have struggled to maintain quality in the squad given that only four overseas players can be named in the playing XI while having a total of 8 overseas players in the roster. According to reports, the cause of concerns for franchises is that the quality of the pool of Indian players would decrease massively if 10 teams are playing in IPL 2021.

"Teams are already finding it difficult to ensure quality. If we look at most IPL squads, around seven to nine players form the core while two to three players per squad are rotated to find the right balance. Now, if eight franchises are increased to 10, that quality further gets diluted. IPL's core - the very essence of having a salary purse every year - is to ensure the overall quality of all eight franchises remains somewhere at the same level, regardless of an individual franchise's spending capacity. If two extra teams draw from the same pool of cricketers at the auction, can the quality be guaranteed," existing franchises asked as per the Times of India.

A top BCCI official has suggested that the participating overseas players per playing XI should be increased to 5 from 4 as the official said it could solve the problem of quality.

"There are quality overseas players who are warming the bench every season because of the restriction. An added overseas player will balance out that need," the official is said to have suggested.

With IPL being known as a platform where talent meets opportunity, and a stage where lesser-known Indian domestic talents are unearthed, it is going to be interesting to see whether the BCCI and IPL Governing Council approves or even discuss such proposals.

NBA Draft 2020: LOOKING OUT FOR NO. 1

The Minnesota Timberwolves are set to make the first pick in the NBA Draft for the second time in franchise history. In 2015, the Timberwolves used the top pick to select two-time NBA All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns.

In August 2014, the Timberwolves acquired the top pick in the 2014 NBA Draft (Andrew Wiggins) and the top pick in the 2013 NBA Draft (Anthony Bennett) from the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team trade that also included the Philadelphia 76ers.

In the common era of the NBA Draft (since 1966), Duke and Kentucky have had the most first overall picks with three each. The Blue Devils’ No. 1 selections are Elton Brand (1999), Kyrie Irving (2011) and Zion Williamson (2019). The Wildcats’ No. 1 selections are John Wall (2010), Anthony Davis (2012) and Karl-Anthony Towns (2015).

Since the NBA Draft Lottery began in 1985, four of 35 No. 1 overall picks have won an NBA championship with the team that drafted them: David Robinson (San Antonio Spurs; first pick in 1987), Tim Duncan (Spurs; first pick in 1997), LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers; first pick in 2003) and Kyrie Irving (Cavaliers; first pick in 2011). James’ NBA championship with the Cavaliers came in his second stint with the team.

NBA Draft 2020: PICKING AND CHOOSING

The Golden State Warriors are picking second for the first time in the common draft era. The Warriors have made the first pick twice since 1966: Joe Barry Carroll (1980) and Joe Smith (1995). Golden State has picked third four times in the common draft era: Clyde Lee (1966), Chris Washburn (1986), Penny Hardaway (1993) and Mike Dunleavy Jr. (2002).

The Charlotte Hornets are picking third for the third time in franchise history. The Hornets previously selected Baron Davis (1999) and Adam Morrison (2006) with the third pick.

The Chicago Bulls (fourth pick) will make their highest pick since selecting Derrick Rose with the first pick in 2008. The Bulls have had the fourth pick four other times: Tom Boerwinkle (1968), Kelvin Ransey (1980) Marcus Fizer (2000) and Eddy Curry (2001).

The Boston Celtics are set to make three picks in the first round (Nos. 14, 26 and 30) for the second year in a row and one pick in the second round (No. 47). If the Celtics make all four picks, that would give them a league-high 25 draft selections since 2015.

The San Antonio Spurs (11th pick) will make their first selection in the NBA Draft Lottery since 1997, when they selected 15-time NBA All-Star and five-time NBA champion Tim Duncan with the first pick. The Spurs’ highest selection since Duncan was Lonnie Walker III with the 18th pick in 2018.

Top prospects in this NBA Draft

LaMelo Ball

The younger brother of New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball and former UCLA forward LiAngelo Ball, the youngest Ball brother was named the 2019-20 NBL Rookie of the Year after forgoing college to play professionally.

He played with his brothers Lonzo and LiAngelo as a freshman at Chino Hills, helping the team to a 35-0 record and a state championship, and scoring a career-high 92 Points (41 PTS in the fourth quarter) vs. Los Osos High School on 02/07/2017.

As the son of BBB founder LaVar Ball, LaMelo was featured in the reality TV show "Ball In The Family,” which aired on Facebook Watch.

Anthony Edwards

When Edwards was in eighth grade, his mother, Yvette, and his grandmother, Shirley, both passed away from cancer within eight months of each other. He wears No. 5 in honor of them both, because they both died on the fifth of the month.

If Edwards gets drafted in the top 5, he will join Dominique Wilkins (No. 3 in 1982 NBA Draft) as the only players from the University of Georgia to be taken in the top 5 in the NBA Draft.

A very good football player – Edwards played tailback, cornerback, and quarterback growing up and was also nicknamed ‘Ant Man.’

Deni Avdija

Avdija played on the same team as former NBA players Omri Casspi and Amar’e Stoudemire and considers them mentors and was the youngest person to ever play for Maccabi.

He won MVP honors at the Basketball Without Borders European Camp in 2018 and at the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp in Charlotte in 2019 and also won back-to-back gold medals at the U20 European Championships.

James Wiseman

The much-awaited NBA Draft is set to take on November 18 at the ESPN Headquarters in Connecticut as one the most exciting features of the off-season returns. The NBA Draft is filled with hopes and anticipation of which team will go on to pick the next future star of the NBA. How does NBA Draft works? The NBA Draft has two rounds with 30 picks allotted to each round. The draft lottery, which took place on August 20, 2020 allows the 14 teams that failed to qualify for the NBA playoffs – aligned from worst to best – to get the #1 draft pick, hence giving the worst three teams the highest chance to get that #1 pick. 2020 NBA DRAFT ORDER 1. Minnesota 2. Golden State 3. Charlotte 4. Chicago 5. Cleveland 6. Atlanta 7. Detroit 8. New York 9. Washington 10. Phoenix 11. San Antonio 12. Sacramento 13. New Orleans 14. Boston (from Memphis) 15. Sacramento (from Houston) 53. Oklahoma City 54. Indiana 55. Brooklyn (from Denver) 56. Charlotte (from Boston) 57. LA Clippers 58. Philadelphia (from Los Angeles Lakers via Orlando) 59. Toronto 60. New Orleans (from Milwaukee) NBA Draft 2020: LOOKING OUT FOR NO. 1 The Minnesota Timberwolves are set to make the first pick in the NBA Draft for the second time in franchise history. NBA Draft 2020: PICKING AND CHOOSING The Golden State Warriors are picking second for the first time in the common draft era. Top prospects in this NBA Draft LaMelo Ball The younger brother of New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball and former UCLA forward LiAngelo Ball, the youngest Ball brother was named the 2019-20 NBL Rookie of the Year after forgoing college to play professionally. Anthony Edwards When Edwards was in eighth grade, his mother, Yvette, and his grandmother, Shirley, both passed away from cancer within eight months of each other. A very good football player – Edwards played tailback, cornerback, and quarterback growing up and was also nicknamed ‘Ant Man.’ Deni Avdija Avdija played on the same team as former NBA players Omri Casspi and Amar’e Stoudemire and considers them mentors and was the youngest person to ever play for Maccabi. He won MVP honors at the Basketball Without Borders European Camp in 2018 and at the Basketball Without Borders Global Camp in Charlotte in 2019 and also won back-to-back gold medals at the U20 European Championships. James Wiseman After studying Mandarin in high school, Wiseman is now fluent in the language. In the future, he wants to be a philanthropist in his hometown of Memphis and own fast food restaurants. An entrepreneur at heart, Wiseman reads business books in his spare time but also is a man of his generation as an active TikToker. NBA Draft 2020, Explainer: Rules, top prospects, order and everything you need to know

Athletes arriving in Tokyo for next year’s Olympic Games, postponed from 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic, will be exempt from the 14-day isolation period Japan has imposed on anyone arriving from overseas to help stop the virus spreading.

Olympic organisers said on Thursday details still need to be worked out, but measures for athletes are likely to include coronavirus testing within 72 hours before arriving in Japan. But they warned decisions on spectators from overseas have yet to be made, saying a 14-day quarantine was “impossible”.

“Athletes, coaches and Games officials that are eligible for the Tokyo Games will be allowed to enter the country, provided significant measures are made before they get to Japan,” Tokyo 2020 Chief Executive Officer Toshiro Muto told a news conference.

Muto was speaking after a meeting between officials from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the national government and Tokyo 2020 organisers on infection prevention procedures during the Games.

He said a decision on foreign spectators would be made next year, depending on pandemic developments.

“By next spring, we will be coming up with a plan for spectators, including non-Japanese spectators,” he said. “It is impossible to set a 14-day quarantine period for foreign spectators, so tests before and upon arrival are needed.”

Japan has held several recent test events, including a four-nation gymnastics meet last weekend, in which spectators have been admitted, but these were limited to residents of Japan.

International Olympic Committee head Thomas Bach is due in Japan for a three-day visit next week, at which Muto said he expected details of coronavirus counter-measures would be ironed out.

Lewis Hamilton can seal a record-equalling seventh drivers' world title, position himself to be "best of the best" and set up long-awaited negotiations for a new Mercedes contract at this weekend's Turkish Grand Prix.

The Briton needs only to prevent his Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas outscoring him by eight points to retain his crown and, in the eyes of many including former Ferrari rival Felipe Massa, move on to become the most successful in F1 history.

A seventh championship would draw him level with Massa's erstwhile Ferrari team-mate Michael Schumacher for titles, but with the record for wins, poles and podiums, as well as consecutive points finishes, he will in many eyes already be the "greatest of all time".

Brazilian Massa, who himself missed out on a title triumph when Hamilton claimed his first in Sao Paulo in 2008, has no doubt that the Englishman, whose contract expires later this year, will deserve that soubriquet and a salary to match it.

"Lewis can really be the best of the best and everybody will say that for years and years, or maybe decades, or whatever," he told the F1 Nation podcast.

"So, I think he is just preparing his two or three-year contract, which I think he deserves.

"What he is doing... He shows that he definitely deserves it –- to be different to all of the other drivers in terms of everything and even in terms of salary."

Hamilton departed the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola earlier this month with an enigmatic suggestion, after his record-increasing 93rd win had secured Mercedes' unparalleled seventh consecutive constructors' championship, that he may not return to racing in 2021.

- Bumper new deal -

Notions of retirement were rejected by his team chief Toto Wolff, who is also out of contract this year. Massa suggested Hamilton is set for a bumper new deal ahead of any confirmed "salary cap" in the sport.

"I remember when Michael was my team-mate and he was like that," he recalled. "Michael was completely different to everybody in terms of everything –- in records, numbers and salary.

"For sure, Michael helped many other drivers to increase their salary. That's what Lewis is, in my view, trying to do. I think he is 'doing right' and he deserves it."

In the simplest terms, Hamilton will be champion again if he beats Bottas, who trails him by 85 points with four races remaining. For the Finn to keep alive his own title bid, he must out-score Hamilton by nine points or more.

Given that Hamilton has beaten him at 10 of this year's 13 races to date and has been in the points at a record 46 consecutive races, Bottas faces a daunting challenge.

Even if he wins on Sunday at the Istanbul Park Circuit, returning to the calendar for the first time since 2011, Hamilton can still take the title by finishing second and clocking the fastest lap.

With the title race reduced to a duel between the two 'silver arrows' drivers, many other teams have turned already to plans for next season – Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto deciding to stay in Italy to concentrate on car development.

Sporting director Laurent Mekies will take charge, but maintain close contact with Binotto, missing his first race since taking over last year.

"He has taken an innovative approach so his voice and input will be heard loud and clear," he said.

Meanwhile, the Australia players returning from the UAE will join their respective camp from November 12 and will train separately.
Also, the Indian team is set to don ‘retro jersey’ inspired by the 1992 World Cup. Teams like Australia and New Zealand have previously experimented with their old designs.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has suffered a serious knee injury during a training session with England national team as the youngster twisted his knee. Liverpool, who are already facing headaches due to injuries to a few key players, are hopeful that Gomez will be able to play some football again before the end of the ongoing 2020-21 season.

Final plans for Gomez’s treatment and recovery are yet to be finalised after he twisted his knee during training – when no one was around him.

After being assessed by specialist doctors on Wednesday, Gomez was given some hope when he was told that his season is not entirely over.

It is still a massive blow to Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, who have already lost Virgil Van Dijk after a knee injury, and are without the likes of Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago.

When asked about Gomez at his news conference on Wednesday evening, England manager Gareth Southgate said: "My immediate thoughts are with him because he's had some difficulties with injuries in the past.

"So we are praying it's not going to be a long-term one. But we just have to see."

Whereas Jamie Redknapp told the Pitch to Post podcast:

"I'm choked for Joe Gomez if it is a bad injury. He's a young man who has already had knee injuries and come back brilliantly. I'm a big fan of his, he seems like a really good, down to earth player.

"I remember seeing him many years ago playing for Charlton in the FA Youth Cup and thinking 'this is a star of the future' and he's certainly proved that at Liverpool. I just hope it's not going to be anything too serious.

Liverpool will be back in action on November 21 as they host Leicester City in Premier League 2020-21 season following the international break.

While Shastri mentioned almost everyone from the top brass of the BCCI in his tweet, he missed out BCCI president Ganguly, which irked a few fans on social media.

The IPL 2020 was earlier indefinitely postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak with the lucrative tournament missing the April-May window. However, the BCCI stepped in to make sure that IPL 2020 gets the September-November window and decided to shift the tournament to the UAE. BCCI came up with the SOPs and ensured the smooth flow of all the logistics including the bio-secure bubble arrangements in the UAE.

Sourav Ganguly, speaking to India Today, had said: "The world needed sport, the world needed life to get back to normal. The entire BCCI team, not just the office-bearers, the employees and staff who work on the ground, they have been in Dubai for the last 2 and half months have pulled off a fantastic thing.

"And heartiest congratulations to all the players, each team for making this successful, without their discipline, this could not have been successful," Ganguly had said.

"Travis (Head) remains an important member of the senior leadership group and has been integral in the recent success of the side which is now ranked as the best Test team in the world. He has been a great support to Tim and is a very experienced leader."

Pucovski has been hitting the headlines as he smashed 495 runs at an average of 247.5 in the opening phase of Sheffield Shield this year. AUS vs IND: Australia announce strong 17-man squad for India Tests; Pucovski, Green get call-up

Argentine football legend Diego Maradona is expected to leave hospital on Wednesday, his doctor said, eight days after undergoing surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain.

Maradona "has a signed discharge," and could go home, Leopoldo Luque told reporters outside the Olivos clinic in Buenos Aires.

"He's coming out very soon," the doctor said.

Luque had earlier published on Instagram a photo of himself hugging the 60-year-old, who wore a bandage on his head.

Maradona is expected to continue his rehabilitation in Tigre, 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Buenos Aires, near his daughter Giannina's home.

"Diego has gone through perhaps the hardest time of his life," his lawyer Matias Morla said earlier Wednesday, adding it was a "miracle" that the clot "which could have taken his life, was detected."

"What is needed now is family togetherness and being surrounded by health professionals," said Morla. "With the doctors and his family, Diego will be as he should be: happy."

The World Cup-winning former Argentine captain underwent surgery last Tuesday to remove a clot lodged between his brain and skull.

He had looked unwell during a brief appearance on October 30 to mark his 60th birthday at the stadium of Gimnasia y Esgrima, the Argentine Primera Division team he coaches.

He seemed to have difficulty walking and did not stay to watch his team's game.

The following Monday, he was taken to hospital in La Plata, where the club is based, suffering from symptoms of anemia and dehydration.

Tests revealed the blood clot, after which Maradona was transferred to a specialist clinic in the capital.

Maradona has been admitted to hospital three times in the last 20 years for serious health issues -- two of which were potentially fatal -- due to his drug and alcohol addictions.

Now free of drugs, Maradona remains dependent on alcohol.

Last week, his doctor had said the football icon would require prolonged treatment in a clinic with different specialties than the current one.

Maradona's daughters Dalma, Giannina and Jana have visited him daily at the clinic.

His oldest son, Diego Jr, who lives in Italy, announced last Thursday on social media that he had tested positive for Covid-19 and therefore would not be able to travel to Buenos Aires.

Alongside Brazil's Pele, who turned 80 last month, Maradona is widely regarded as one of the greatest soccer players of all time.

Mumbai Indians on Tuesday defeated Delhi Capitals in the final of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 to lift their fifth IPL trophy. Mumbai Indians, who have played arguably the most attractive and effective brand of cricket in IPL 2020, defeated Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets to seal their fifth IPL trophy in what has been a sensational campaign for the four-time, now five-time IPL winners.

Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to bat first as the first-time finalists went with the same strategy as Qualifier 2. However, Trent Boult came into the party early as the Kiwi speedster dismissed Marcus Stoinis in the very first ball of the match before soon sending Ajinkya Rahane back to the pavilion.

Mumbai Indians picked Jayant Yadav ahead of Rahul Chahar for the final and move came good for Rohit Sharma as the off-spinner got rid of an in-form Shikhar Dhawan. Ishan Kishan continued his sensational run with the bat and ably supported Rohit Sharma, who went onto score a terrific half-century. While Rohit departed for 68, Pollard was dismissed for 9 off 4. However, Mumbai Indians safely crossed the winning line to lift their fifth IPL trophy.

Suryakumar: Preparations, processes and routine are important. they just one thing - we'll take care of this. You go and express yourself. [The Rohit sacrifice] he was batting really well. Most importantly, he's been anchoring well since the first game. I don't mind sacrificing for him at all.

Bumrah: It means a great deal to play. We know it's a difficult time, everyone is stuck at home. We're lucky that we could come to work and entertain people watching at home. If we could bring smiles to their faces, it's the best thing we could do. From the first game, I felt my rhythm was up. The last piece of the puzzle was missing. But when I bowled the Super Over, I had to execute against Virat and AB and since then it clicked into place.

Arsenal forward Nicolas Pepe has admitted that he is unhappy with his lack of playing time under manager Mikel Arteta. "My goal is to play more. To have a little more playing time," Pepe told French channel Canal Plus.

"A player who plays is happy. For me, I would like to play a little more to find a smile again.

Meanwhile, Arteta has used Aubameyang at the left-wing, a move that has its fair share of critics. Aubameyang has netted just twice in the Premier League while failing to register a shot on target in Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat by Aston Villa on Sunday. So far, the Gabon international has registered just 10 shots on target in eight games.

The 32-year-old, who recently signed a contract extension with Arsenal, has been moved to left-wing under Arteta with more focus on defensive duties. While Arsenal have looked solid in that regard, Aubameyang has witnessed a drop in goals and shots per game.

German international and Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos feels that footballers are just “puppets” used by governing bodies like FIFA and UEFA while being powerless in discussions about competitions such as the Nations League or the much-discussed European Super League.

"At the end of the day, as players, we're just puppets for all these new things which are invented by FIFA and UEFA. Nobody asks us," Kroos said in his podcast 'Einfach mal Luppen'.

Kroos, who took the field for the 100th time for Germany last month, has been named in the squad for Wednesday’s friendly against the Czech Republic as well as Nations League games against Spain and Ukraine.

Toni Kroos: Footballers are just 'puppets' for UEFA and FIFA

If you are a European football fan then the names of Jorge Mendes, Mino Raiola, Jonathan Barnett must be familiar. They are the biggest and some of the most influential managers in the world of football. Switch back to Indian football, which is still trying to spread its wings with another much-awaited season of Indian Super League. Many of the Indian football fans will reckon there is not much work or scope for a football agent in India. Wrong, with the footballing landscape ballooning in India and professionalism creeping in with each passing day, the scenario is drastically changing.

Indian footballers are steadily becoming household names. Earlier, in the mainstream, it was limited to the likes of Sunil Chhetri. However, things have changed exponentially grown not only for other top footballers but also for youngsters. Thanks to these agents, who toil hard not only to bring the best footballing deal on the table for their clients but also to provide them with the best possible deals in a bid to make them grow in the professional world.

Wilbur Lasrado, Player Relation Manager with Inventive Sports UK, is one of the names who is making the lives of footballers better. In an interaction with WION, Wilbur provides insights into the world of football business, his journey so far in the footballing industry, managing footballers, the impact of the Indian Super League and much more.

“It all clicked whilst networking with the right people at the right time and soon after completing Bachelor in Management Studies and towards the end of 2017, I was introduced to Baljit Rihal - CEO of Inventive Sports, an established agent from London,” recalls Wilbur during the interaction with WION.

“Earlier, Baljit was only into International Players and having an Indian background himself he felt there was a lot more he wanted to do and contribute towards Indian Football and that’s where I was to add value and help take that on. Then we were fortunate enough to have Shakeel Abdulla from Kerala join us and the journey has been remarkable,” one of the known names in Indian football, Wilbur, adds.

So does it help if you have played football in your career?

“Obviously, I have been friends with many of these top pros, and having played the game myself I knew what it would take me to fit in these players’ shoes. I realized many of these individuals face unique challenges as they try to move further in their careers. One thing which caught my eye was that there were football agents who worked only for the benefit of certain players and at times we're not able to cross the line for them. So, when the opportunity arrived, I gave it a thought as I felt I could do something differently,” Wilbur says.

But like every other profession, the football world highlights the ups and downs of life. Luckily, Wilbur got in touch with one of the top names in Indian football – Steven Dias – and life was never the same for him.

“The journey all began with a small step in the right direction. when I first decided to get into Football Agency, Steven Dias was the first person I spoke to. Steven as many knows is a legend of Indian Football. I shared a very good relationship with Steven and obviously, his reputation and experience within the industry were why I wanted to seek his opinion. All he said was Wilbur ‘this is a big and difficult industry to survive in, it is a very good thing, I know you are passionate about the game and you will do well.’” Wilbur narrates.

“I have always admired Steven both as a person and player and been a big fan of him right from the latter half of his playing days i.e. his time post his stint with Delhi Dynamos. He is a very honest, humble, respectful person, a true example not just as a professional but as a great human both on and off the pitch. His advice was simple - Make sure you work for the player, you are honest- because this job involves a lot of trust, stay humble, and above all respect the player at all times and don’t forget to keep grounded- you will go a long way!

“Obviously, it was never easy to start and I was prepared to face challenges, I was not someone to give up if something did not go right. I was extremely determined and hungry to be in the business, and there was no turning back and hence the rest is history,” he adds.

So how does one get into a football agency? Does it require formal education or training?

“Firstly, you do not need a formal education to become a football agent, but there are a few steps you can take to give yourself before you want to make a mark. First and foremost, you must be a good communicator. It is a very important pre-requisite in this job as you are going to act as a mediator between the player and the club.

“Secondly, you need to be thick-skinned and courageous. There will be a lot of challenges and one should be ready to face and overcome it. One needs to study the market and get some legal and business knowledge and know what is happening between the four walls of the industry. Make sure you network as much as possible. Understand the business. Read as much as you can, be outgoing, and open to feedback, learning, and implementation. Above all be honest’ to the highest capacity because if either of the party isn’t honest it can end up being a very dirty business,” Wilbur explains.

The Nivia balls have become synonymous with Indian Super League’s action. But hardly a few know about the hard work to get Nivia into India’s top-flight league. Sahal Abdul Samad, India’s most exciting talent and one of the household names in Indian football, is another example of agents making the lives of footballers better off the pitch. Wilbur is closely linked to these two examples.

“If I have to pick two, one would be, being involved- behind the success of Nivia- the leading Indian Sports manufacturing brand signing a multi-year agreement with Football Sports Development Ltd to be the official ball partner of the Hero Indian Super League with a multi-crore deal starting from season 2018/19. It was something no one ever talked about, but I am glad that we were a part of the success of the development of Indian football. It was one of our biggest achievements in the industry so far.

“The second would one would be being involved behind the success of Sahal signing with global sportswear giant Puma as its new global ambassador who would join PUMA's roster of Indian players like Sunil Chhetri, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and others alongside global players like Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suárez and Sergio Aguero. A deal which would also see him join the likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Kareena Kapoor as a Puma Global Ambassador,” Wilbur beams with pride.

But is being a football agent a realistic profession in India and within Indian football? And how does one approach it?

“The scope is not difficult for a person to become an Agent in India, earlier there were exams but now the All India Football Federation has a standard registration process. One might not need a formal education to become a football agent. However, one needs to first understand what a football agent does and be able to go beyond the line for the player wherever possible.

“There are agents who just do deals and disappear and there are agents who really look after their clients with everything. That is why I separate these two categories of agents. Either you are just a deal broker who leaves the player to one side and only appears when there is a contract renewal or deal to be done or you do what we do, be there for them in every phase of their career, even when the going isn’t easy,” Wilbur says while adding “the primary responsibility of agents is to find their players a club and negotiate the contracts but to be honest there is a lot beyond negotiating a contract.”

And how has professionalism crept in the Indian footballing setup? Has the introduction of the Indian Super League helped the cause?

“Firstly, it is very important to have strong foundations and vision. One needs to be able to take ownership of the job in hand. One fine example is Bengaluru FC- The club, the players, the staff, the management, the media team, the operations team, the fans, etc. all go hand in hand! No Indian football club, it could be argued, has been run better on a consistent basis since BFC's inception in 2013 which is the reasons why they are the most successful teams in Indian Football,” Wilbur says.

“The ISL has made Indian football more professional and enterprising, both on and off the pitch in every segment to be honest. Thanks to ISL, business is increasing for us agents. I would easily say- ISL has given Sahal and several other players, a huge platform and opportunity to become the player and well-known figure he is today,” he adds.

Before concluding, Wilbur gives insights on how an agent deals with critical contract negotiations. The key is to keep your calm and remain positive.

“Firstly, it is about understanding the club’s requirements. We approach the clubs and ask what they are looking for, upon understanding the same we then put forward suitable profiles. Once we attract interest from the club, we then discuss further and take the next steps” Wilbur states.

“It is also crucial that you have a good knowledge of the football market, including what the average transfer fees and wages are, as well as what bonuses different players take home. You need to understand how to position a player, what salary they can command, as well as the needs of clubs, and how to identify whether your client is right for them.

“For instance, does a club have obvious skills or strategic shortcomings? If so, do you have a client that could patch a hole in their team? You cannot give up if a deal does not go through. You will not get all YES, every now and then. There will be a couple of NO” and you got to deal with it. Every agent stumbles sometimes and faces rejection but that is not the end, one needs to keep moving and should be prepared for it,” he signs off.

However, one needs to first understand what a football agent does and be able to go beyond the line for the player wherever possible. “There are agents who just do deals and disappear and there are agents who really look after their clients with everything. That is why I separate these two categories of agents. Either you are just a deal broker who leaves the player to one side and only appears when there is a contract renewal or deal to be done or you do what we do, be there for them in every phase of their career, even when the going isn’t easy,” Wilbur says while adding “the primary responsibility of agents is to find their players a club and negotiate the contracts but to be honest there is a lot beyond negotiating a contract.” And how has professionalism crept in the Indian footballing setup?
