With Shakib Al Hasan replacing Tamim as the Bangladesh ODI skipper ahead of the forthcoming World Cup, Tamim held on to his spot during the home ODIs versus New Zealand. After the second ODI, he complained of back issues -- which had forced him to miss the Asia Cup 2023 edition -- and eventually got ruled out. Thus, Tamim lost his spot in the World Cup squad due to injury concerns. However, the opener made a shocking claim of being&nbsp;a victim of dirty politics.

On Wednesday (September 27), Tamim took to Facebook and confirmed that&nbsp;he would have been fit enough to take part in the ODI World Cup. However,&nbsp;he won't be travelling to India solely because he is aware of the roadblocks being created for him by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). One of which, he said, was a top board official suggesting him to give up his opening slot and bat lower in the order.

I am just going to tell someone that you can do whatever you want. Is the team first or the individual?" What can you do with personal achievement? You want to make a name for yourself?" Shakib pointed out.

But if I know that there's uncertainty about him playing the seventh or the third or the first game, or that I will only know in the morning of the game, it will be difficult for me to select the team. Later, the BCB announced their final 15 on their social media handles without providing any explanation as to why Tamim got overlooked.

Tamim announced his retirement earlier in July and made a U-turn the next day upon meeting the Bangladesh prime minister. While he remained out of contention for the Asia Cup 2023, the left-handed batter got picked for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. He played in the second One-Dayer, scoring 44 runs, but got ruled out of the next tie owing to a precautionary measure relating to his troubled back.

Other than Tamim’s exclusion, no other surprises were there in the 15-man squad announcement.&nbsp;

Setback for Bangladesh as Tamim Iqbal left out of World Cup 2023 squad

Bangladesh have recalled senior players Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah for the first two ODIs of the upcoming three-match series against New Zealand. The decision comes as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to rest several kay players from the Asia Cup 2023 squad ahead of the ODI World Cup next month.

Among the players who have been rested for the New Zealand series are Shakib Al Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim. Bangladesh crashed out of the Super Four stage in the regional tournament but managed a consolation win against India.

In Shakib's absence, Litton Das will be leading the side. Apart from Tamim and Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar and Nurul Hasan have also returned to the side along with three uncapped players - Zakir Hasan, Rishad Hossain and Khaled Ahmed - making the cut as well.

"The decision to rest players was taken in consideration of the World Cup in India, which will be a long tournament, and ensuring the mental and physical fitness of the cricketers will be very important," chief selector Minhajul Abedin said. "The series against New Zealand provides us an opportunity to take a look at some other players as well ahead of this major event.

"The squad is a blend of experience and youth, and only Zakir, Khaled and Rishad have not featured in ODIs yet. Zakir was very close to playing against Ireland in March before he suffered an unfortunate injury. Khaled has done well in his List A career, and Rishad offers a different dimension to our bowling attack."

The series against New Zealand will kickoff on September 21 in Mirpur with next two matches scheduled on September 23 and 26 on the same venue. The teams then fly to India for the ICC ODI World Cup which starts on October 5.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reappointed veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan as the captain for the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup 2023. Shakib has replaced seasoned opener Tamim Iqbal, who after reverting his retirement call early in July, got ruled out of the six-team tournament in Pakistan and Sri Lanka due to a back injury.

Shakib will lead Bangladesh&nbsp;side in ODIs for the first time since 2017, and with this appointment, he is now the captain across all formats. He will take over the charge for the Asia Cup, the New Zealand home series that follows and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, for which they will travel to India.

BCB president Nazmul Hassan&nbsp;made this announcement at his residence.&nbsp;

"We will speak more to him when he returns to Bangladesh [from Lanka Premier League]. We have to know his long-term plan. I spoke to him on the phone yesterday. But it is better if we talk to him in person since he is busy with a franchise league currently. We will also talk about which format he will keep leading, whether it is all three formats or one or two of them."

Nazmul said there was no alternate option other than Shakib for the post.&nbsp;

"There was never any confusion. I told you before. He is the obvious choice. Who else can lead? But we had to talk to him before appointing him. Nobody should think anything else. Shakib is the captain. He was always the main choice," Nazmul said.

<h2>Asia Cup, World Cup squad to be same – Nazmul</h2>

Since most of the teams are yet to announce their squads for the Asia Cup and the World Cup, BCB President said for Bangladesh, the squad would be the same for both tournaments.

"They have just one spot open. We still don't know about Tamim Iqbal who is recovering from a back injury. We might try one or two openers in the Asia Cup," he said. 
 
Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka in their Asia Cup 2023 opener in Pallekele on August 31 and then play against Afghanistan in their next group game on September 3 in Lahore, Pakistan.

He also feels that by playing in this league, Bangladesh players will benefit as they will get the exposure that they require to grow.

"I don't know if I'm going to play there or not. There is no guarantee that you will play well or not. It is a learning process. 20-25 days or whatever days I stay I will try to get an idea about all the fields which will be useful for us in the future," Das told reporters.

Meanwhile, with Das, Roy, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, KKR have its hands full, with the overseas players who can bat at the top.&nbsp;

They were not allowed to score freely with Mahmud returning with 2 for 26 along with&nbsp;Taskin and Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman as well as skipper Shakib chipping in with a wicket each. As a result, England only managed a moderate 156/6.

Being asked to bat first, Rohit Sharma-led India posted 184 for 6 riding on half-centuries from KL Rahul (50) and in-form batter Virat Kohli (44-ball 64*). Nurul Hasan, who remained unbeaten on 25 along with Taskin Ahmed, has accused Kohli of fake fielding. The incident he was referring to happened in the seventh over when Litton Das played the ball towards the deep off Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh collected it and threw it at the striker's end. Amid Arshdeep's throw, it appeared as if Kohli was relaying a throw from the deep. However, no one noticed it and proceedings carried on uninterrupted.

After the match, Hasan said at the post-match presser, "Certainly, the field was wet and it had an impact and everyone saw that and eventually, what I felt is that when we were talking there was a fake throw and it could have been a five-run penalty and that could have gone our way, but unfortunately, even that didn't come."

Kohli had dropped down to the 29th spot in the T20I rankings after enduring a lean patch with the bat. Kohli finished the tournament as the second-highest run-getter overall behind Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan.
