India and Pakistan share one of the greatest rivalries in cricket history. Any contest between the arch-rivals at the international level is a blockbuster affair with millions of fans watching across the globe. The two teams have produced some of the most memorable cricketing encounters over the years but do not play any bilateral cricket against each other anymore.

India and Pakistan last played a bilateral series between them in 2013 and have since met only in major ICC competitions due to the political tensions between the two nations. Recently, former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Tauqir Zia claimed the BCCI has never refused to play against Pakistan and that the problem lies at the 'government-to-government' level.

Tauqir opened up on the strained bilateral ties between India and Pakistan and claimed BCCI has never refused to play against Pakistan. He also stated that both current BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly and PCB chief Ramiz Raja want to promote cricket together. Both Ganguly and Raja are former cricketers turned administrators for their respective countries.

"BCCI has never refused to play against us [Pakistan]. The problem lies on the government-to-government level. Both cricketing boards are currently run by former cricketers who understand the importance of Pakistan-India matches. Sourav Ganguly and Ramiz Raja both want to promote cricket and there is nothing better than seeing a contest between these rivals," Tauqir told Cricket Pakistan.

PCB chief Raja had recently proposed a four-nation tournament involving India, Pakistan, England and Australia at ICC's annual meeting. However, his proposal was rejected. Sharing his views on the prospects of a four-nation tournament, Tauqir said the decision from ICC is understandable considering there is not much room left for such a tournament with the calendar already stacked up due to T20 franchise cricket across the globe.

PCB confirms Babar Azam-led Pakistan to tour Netherlands for three ODIs in August

The all-powerful ICC board will conclude its two-day meeting on Sunday with the process of nominating/renominating the chairman along with the ambitious four-nation proposal pitched by PCB chairman Ramiz Raja to be placed on the table.

Raja, who has prepared a white paper for an annual four-nation meet (T20/ODI) involving Pakistan, India, Australia and England, to be held under the aegis of ICC, believes that revenue to the tune of USD 750 million could be raked in by the parent body and distributed among its members.

While India only plays Pakistan in multi-nation events like Asia Cup and World Cup, the multi-nation tournament becomes a tricky issue and it remains to be seen whether BCCI shows any keen interest.

As of now, BCCI wants to honour all its bilateral commitments with a jam-packed calendar and whether a window can be squeezed in is the bone of contention.

While it is understood that ICC, which doesn't allow member nations to conduct more than tri-nation meets, would not like to organize an event which can dilute its own marquee events like T20 World Cup and ODI World Cup.

However, with ICC's chairmanship up for grabs unless Greg Barclay seeks a renomination, there could be interesting developments which might emerge after Sunday's meeting gets over.

While there is a buzz that Barclay might seek renomination but in politics of cricket adminstration, one month is a lot of time and it will be till second week of May that the New Zealander might get a chance to seek extension if he wishes to.

If not, then any candidate from the member nation might throw his hat in the ring with nominations from two other full member nations.

The BCCI hasn't yet made any official announcement about whether anyone from its top brass will throw their respective hats in the ring.

Afghanistan women's cricket

The ICC has a long-term plan to restart women's cricket in Afghanistan, a nation currently run by the Taliban. The ICC is trying to chalk out a roadmap that could see women returning to cricket grounds in war-ravaged country.

Women's Test matches depend on Member nations

The ICC has left it on member nations to decide how many women's Test matches they are willing to play and also the duration of the matches.

"If any member nation wants to play five day Tests, it will be their prerogative and those who want to stick to four-day can do so. The members can decide," an ICC board member said.

ICC Board Meet: PCB chief Ramiz Raja to pitch for 4-Nation tournament, chairman nomination in focus

The ICC board on Sunday convinced its chairman Gregor Barclay to complete his term till end of October before the global body starts its nomination process to find a new chairman where the Indian cricket board could play a massive role.

In another significant development, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja's proposal for a four-nation tournament has been unanimously rejected by the board, putting an end to speculations of multiple India versus Pakistan matches on neural venues.

The other notable development was BCCI secretary Jay Shah being inducted into the ICC cricket committee.

The two-day board meeting which concluded in Dubai on Sunday was a win-win one for the Indian cricket board as Barclay's continuation till October gives it ample time to strategise whether it will field a candidate for the top post in the month of November.

"There has been no discussion on renomination of Barclay. But he will finish his current two year term as a chairman till end of October. So the process of nominating a new chairman only starts in November," an ICC Board member told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Originally, there was a possibility that the renomination or nomination would have happened in the month of June but that changed after deliberations between the member boards.

The decision also helps the BCCI buy time as they are likely to have their AGM in September after which the composition of the national parent body will be clear.

The BCCI has already appealed, seeking a a few changes in the Lodha Constitution which many feel till date is practically non-implementable.

It will be interesting to see whether president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah go for a cooling-off in September.

Shah's name is doing the rounds as the next chairman of ICC but there has been no confirmation from either the BCCI secretary himself or sources close to him about his apparent interest in throwing his hat in the ring.

Ramiz's proposal shot down by board

PCB chairman Ramiz Raja's ambitious proposal of conducting a four-nation tourney comprising India, Australia, England under the aegis of the ICC was unanimously rejected by the all-powerful board even though there was a projected revenue of USD 750 million for five years.

"In any case, ICC's Financial and Commercial Affairs Committee (F&CA) was against this proposal. As we know that the MPA (Members Participation Agreement) doesn't allow any member nation to host more than tri-nation, organizing four-nation every year would have in any case devalued ICC's own marquee events," a board member said.

Another sensitive issue which board members are talking in hushed tones is whether Raja will remain PCB chairman for long after Imran Khan was removed from Prime Minister's position.

PCB chairman is a political appointee as Pakistan PMs are always Patron-in-chief of the board. Hence Raja, an appointee of Imran Khan, might be forced to tender his resignation in current political climate.

The BCCI was always clear in its stand that it won't play four-nations with its calender choc-a-bloc and a lot of bilateral commitments that need to be honoured. On top of that is player's workload and mental health.

There were reports that ECB's Tom Harrison was also independently interested in exploring ideas of a four-nation tourney but it's now evident that nothing of that sort happened at board meeting.

Neutral umpires to make comeback in Tests

The ICC Cricket Committee acknowledged that the performance of home umpires was strong and had not affected games. The use of home umpires had also led to 12 members of the International Panel umpires making their Test match debut.

In line with a previous recommendation from the men's Cricket Committee, the CEC agreed that more neutral match officials should be utilised as travel restrictions are lifted while building on the success of the use of home umpires.

From the next season, one neutral on-field umpire will make a comeback in Test matches along with home team's elite panel umpire for company. For white ball games, ICC's Elite and Emirates panel home umpires will continue doing the job.

Afghanistan will be represented in ICC by Mirwais Ashraf

The ICC Board received an update from the Afghanistan Working Group which recommended Mirwais Ashraf as the ACB's appointed representative to the Board.

The ACB confirmed their continued commitment to developing women's cricket and will submit a full action plan and budget to do so to the Working Group which will continue to monitor the situation and receive regular updates on its progress.

ICC Meet: Chairman Barclay to complete his term, Ramiz Raja's proposal rejected, Jay Shah in cricket committee

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja is considering resigning from his position in the wake of the ouster of Imran Khan as prime minister of the country, according to sources.

Ramiz, who like Imran is also a former Pakistan captain, is presently in Dubai for the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings which concluded on Sunday.

"Ramiz had only agreed to become the chairman of the Board on the insistence of Imran for whom all the players who played under his captaincy including Ramiz have a lot of regard and respect," a source well aware of the developments said on Sunday.

"Ramiz was well set in a career as commentator, TV personality and expert and was busy with assignments. But on Imran's insistence he agreed to put aside all his media contacts and become chairman of the board," the source said.

"Ramiz had also made it clear to the PM that he would only remain in the Board until he (Imran Khan) was PM."

The source said that with Imran now ousted as PM, who is also Patron-in-Chief of the Board and directly nominates the chairman for a formal election process, it is highly unlikely Ramiz would stay on unless the new Premier wants him to carry on with his job.

Since Ramiz took over as PCB chairman last September he has made a lot of changes in the Board and also followed up on Imran's insistence on a domestic cricket structure based on just six first class provincial teams.

Soon after taking charge, he made it clear to Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis that they were no longer required as head coach and bowling coach of the national team and should resign.

He also asked the head of the high-performance centre in Lahore, Grant Bradburn, and some other coaches to resign.

His biggest move was to create circumstances where Wasim Khan stepped down as CEO of the Board.

Since then, Ramiz has brought in a new CEO but with Imran's government now gone, it remains to be seen what will happen to the new appointments in the Board as it is no secret that political changes also have a big bearing on Pakistan cricket set-up.

"If Shahbaz Sharif becomes new Premier, then there is every likelihood he might convey to Ramiz his services are no longer required and bring back Najam Sethi to head the Board," the source said.

But, with no international or domestic commitments for the national team until June, changes in the Board will not affect cricket affairs.

Sethi resigned soon after Imran won the last general elections as he never got along with the former captain on political issues.

Ramiz Raja considering resigning as PCB chief in the wake of Imran Khan's ouster as Pakistan PM

India and Pakistan haven't played a bilateral series since early 2013. Due to the political tension between the neighbouring countries, both sides continue to meet each other only in multi-nation or ICC events. During last year's T20 World Cup, in the UAE, the two Asian giants squared off against each other in the Super 12 round, which was a sellout in no time.

Thus, Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja remains hopeful of a fruitful talk with the Sourav Ganguly-led Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to convince their counterpart for a bilateral series in 2024-25. For the unversed, PCB will hold talks with the BCCI in Dubai, from April 7-10, and is expecting a favourable response from the latter, keeping politics aside.

PCB chairman Ramiz Raja pins hopes of bilateral series between India-Pakistan in 2024-25

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja had recently shared his views on revamping the Pakistan Super League (PSL) by introducing an auction system like the Indian Premier League (IPL) to ensure it can be put in the same bracket as the Indian league.

Raja had also claimed that no player would prefer IPL over PSL once the auction-based model is adopted in Pakistan's domestic T20 tournament. The PCB chief had faced ire from Indian fans on social media after his "we'll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL" comment.

IPL which got underway in 2008 is currently the best T20 league in the world in terms of both quality of cricket and the finances involved. The cash-rich league is into its 15th edition and has been witnessing immense growth with each passing season. Several former Pakistan cricketers have often tried to pit PSL up against IPL and made comparisons between the two tournaments.

In order to make PSL compete against IPL, PCB chief Raja plans to bring in changes in the rules of the competition. Speaking about the same in an interview last month, Raja had said - "This is a game of money. When the cricket economy grows in Pakistan, our respect will rise. The main driver of that financial economy is the PSL. If we take the PSL to auction model, increase the purse, then I’ll put it in the IPL bracket. And then we’ll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL."

He has now clarified his remarks after facing backlash over the same and has said he is aware India's economy is in a far better position than Pakistan at present. In an interview with Cricbuzz, Raja said he has plans to improve PSL but was misquoted on the other part.

"I was misquoted. I know where economy of India is and where is Pakistan's. We have plans to improve the PSL. We will bring in the auction model but I was misquoted on the other part," said the PCB chief.

Raja is also set to formally present the proposal of a four-nation T20I series involving India, Pakistan, Australia and England. Raja had first shared the idea of the four-nation series after the T20 World Cup 2021 last year and believes India and Pakistan should play at the international level more often.

"I don't know how the ICC members will receive it but how long can we allow ourselves to be dictated by politics between countries," Raja told Cricbuzz. "Star Sports had made a presentation at the last ICC board meeting where it said the India-Pakistan game at the Twenty20 World Cup broke all viewership records. Why don't we have more of what the fans want," said Raja.

'I know where India's economy is': Ramiz Raja defends his 'we'll see who goes to play IPL over PSL' remark

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja is all set to table a proposal for a four-nation tournament involving India at the upcoming ICC Board Meeting but the BCCI is unlikely to play ball.

As per the current ICC rule, a member board can host a tri-nation tournament at the most as only the global body has the right to organize an event which involves more than three countries.

But Ramiz's 'white-paper' proposes that ICC run the tournament annually with a projected revenue of USD 750 million for the parent body from media rights and other commercial activities.

India have been pencilled as one of the four participating sides in the four-Nations T20 Super League Series proposal, which Ramiz plans to table at the April 10 ICC Board meeting in Dubai.

Australia and England are the other participating sides in the proposal, which, if goes through, will see the Asian neighbours compete at the highest level on an annual basis.

The event host, the concept (white) paper says, will be decided amongst the four participants, with each participating side to stage the tournament on a rotation basis with ICC like its other global events running the tournament.

However, it has been learnt that BCCI is unlikely to relent.

"Our Futures Tours & Programme (FTP) is packed. Also the fact that there are lot of factors and as of now, there is no change in policy of playing them at ICC events. Also, we don't think ICC will be ready to organize a four-nation and Raja's proposal will be turned down," a senior BCCI official said.

India and Pakistan have played each other only in ICC or ACC events since 2012 when the last bilateral white-ball series was held.

Recently, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had stated in an interview to a foreign news agency that board is currently more focussed on honouring its bilateral commitments.

"The calender is choc-a-bloc and also we need to keep players physical and mental health in mind with so much of cricket being played,' the official said.

According to proposal prepared by Ramiz, "the quadrangular series will be played on a single-league basis around September/October, which is a low cricket period due to the eve of cricket seasons in Australia, India and Pakistan, and the tail-end of the cricket season in England.

"The proposal suggests a potential revenue of USD 750 million, which the PCB boss wants to be distributed amongst the participating nations and other ICC members through a distribution model," a PCB source told PTI.

While Ramiz wants ICC to be the organizers of such an event, PCB sources feel that it will in no way undermine the global events.

"It is not an attempt to undermine the ICC Events or the ICC Events Cycle. The ICC tried the Super Series in 2005, so there is no harm in testing waters for another event," the source said.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Babar Azam-ed Pakistan cricket team after their shambolic defeat against Australia in the final third Test of the three-match series at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore on Friday (March 25). Australia skittled out Pakistan for 235 runs in their second innings to win the game by 115 runs and clinch the series 1-0.

Skipper Cummins led the charge as the Australian bowlers ran through the Pakistan batting line-up in the final session on Day 5 of the Lahore Test. Cummins picked up the important wickets of Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan to finish with three wickets to his name while spinner Nathan Lyon bagged a five-wicket haul.

Akhtar lashed out at the Pakistan team management and the PCB for their defensive mindset. He also criticised PCB's move to create flat pitches for the series which ended up backfiring for the hosts. The former Pakistan pacer was all praise for Cummins and the Australian team for being brave and putting up a fight in the series.

"Absolutely disappointing series, this. Absolute nonsense. The mindset of both, the Pakistan Cricket Board and probably the team management was to draw this series. Neither should they win, nor us; just end this series in a draw," Akhtar said in a video on his official YouTube channel.

"But hats off to Australians. I'm genuinely happy for them. This is not their home, none of these players played in Pakistan before; they came here and play brave cricket. The bowlers didn't know when the ball reverses in such conditions but both, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins put in the hard hours to learn the skills of the trade here. Nathan Lyon, who hasn't toured Pakistan yet, took a five-wicket haul," he went on.

After a drawn first Test in Rawalpindi, Australia came close to clinching the second Test in Karachi but Pakistan were saved by a brilliant batting effort from captain Babar Azam and Rizwan. The two teams headed into the final third Test with the series at 0-0 and it was Australia, who managed to come out on top.

Batting first, Australia rode on half-centuries from Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Alex Carey and Cameron Green to post a big total of 391 runs on the board. The visitors then bundled out Pakistan for 268 runs in their first innings to gain a healthy lead and declared their second innings on 227/3.

While many expected Pakistan to comfortably pull off a draw once again, Australian bowlers ran the show and skittled out the hosts on 235 runs to wrap up a thrilling win. Absolute nonsense! Shoaib Akhtar lashes out at PCB and Babar Azam & Co. after defeat against Australia

The Pakistan-Australia Test series has made heads turn in the cricketing fraternity. While the first Test was a run-fest that saw only 14 wickets falling during the course of the day, the second and penultimate Test had a riveting finish on day five but it still didn't produce an even battle between bat and ball.

The third and final Test is currently underway at the iconic Gadaffi Stadium, Lahore. While the series decider's result will be out in a few days' time, former Aussie pacer-turned-commentator Michael Kasprowicz has given his verdict for the Lahore pitch, at least if his first opinion is taken into consideration.

While on air during Day Two's play, the former speedster said, "It's important, isn't it. We talk about the spinners, the variations, the speed is certainly one of those things. But also for the fast bowlers, and certainly Mitchell Starc's speeds have been very consistent here at 140. But I think, the key also, on these flat wickets -- sorry, on these good batting strips what we are seeing here, beautiful batting strips..."

Thus, Kasprowicz realised his folly and corrected himself in a jiffy and later called the Lahore surface a 'beautiful batting strip'. Here's the video of the incident:

The Indian Premier League (IPL) led to being a huge booster for T20 cricket worldwide. It led to the expansion of the shortest format and the formation of various T20 leagues across the globe. While IPL remains miles ahead of other competitors, Pakistan Cricket Board's President (PCB) made heads turn with his recent claims of making the Pakistan Super League (PSL) the biggest league of all, making it every player's top priority even ahead of IPL.

"When the cricket economy grows in Pakistan, our respect will rise. The main driver of that financial economy is PSL. If we take PSL to an auction model, increase the purse, then I'll put it in IPL bracket. Then we'll see who goes to play IPL over the PSL," the PCB chief had said.

To this, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has reacted and schooled Ramiz. Chopra made an entire video, comparing PSL and IPL, on his Youtube channel and responded to Ramiz's claims by saying, "Even if you do an auction instead of drafts, it is not going to happen, you will not see a player playing for 16 crores in the PSL. It cannot happen at all, market dynamics are not going to allow that to happen, it's as simple as that."

Chopra was brutal in his assessment and further asserted, "To be very honest, Chris Morris' one ball, when he played last time, was more expensive than the players' salary in other leagues. Is it even possible to compete or compare yourself with the IPL, whether it is PSL, BBL, The Hundred or the CPL? Is it a slightly misplaced judgment?"

"The price is decided based on how much money you get from the rights, at what price the teams are sold and then there is a total purse according to which you play. All these are interlinked, they are not separate. If someone sees them separately, he is going to get defeated," opined the former India player.

"The story starts with the broadcaster on what value it puts on a property. The biggest thing India has is the people who watch, they are the ones who pay a lot of money, our 130 crores public. That is the asset we have that nobody else has," added Chopra.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja is still hopeful of reviving bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan through a four-nation tournament that he had proposed last year. After the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2021 last year, the PCB chief had taken to Twitter to inform that he was going to propose an annual four-nation T20I series involving India, Pakistan, England and Australia to the ICC.

However, when asked about the PCB chief's plan, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had earlier this year had termed it a 'short-term commercial initiative' while hinting that BCCI had no plans to be part of the series. However, Raja has not given up hopes on convincing the BCCI to let India also be part of the tournament and has said he will soon hold talks regarding the same with BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

India and Pakistan, who share one of the greatest rivalries in cricket, have not played against each other in a bilateral series since 2013 due to the political tensions between the two nations. However, Raja believes politics should be kept aside when it comes to cricket as he gears up to talk to Ganguly during the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Dubai on March 19.

Raja also stated that if India does not agree to be part of the tournament, he will propose an annual three-nation event involving Pakistan, England and Australia.

"I will talk to Sourav Ganguly about it when we meet for the ACC meeting in Dubai. Both of us are former captains and players and for us, cricket is not about politics. Even if India does not go with us on this proposal, we will think about launching an annual three-nation event with Australia and England in Pakistan," Raja told reporters in Karachi, as per PTI.

Pakistan have also won the hosting rights for the 2022 edition of the Asia Cup and is confident of India visiting Pakistan for the tournament. However, the PCB chief admitted they will have to find some other way if BCCI refuses to send the Indian team to Pakistan.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is regarded as the best T20 cricket league in the world. Ever since the inception of the tournament in 2008, IPL has managed to maintain its quality and continues to attract the best players from around the world to ply their trade in the tournament. The cash-rich league is also one of the riches cricketing tournaments in the world in terms of revenue.

While a number of countries have established their own domestic T20 leagues like the Big Bash League (Australia), Caribbean Premier League (West Indies) and Pakistan Super League (Pakistan), IPL remains the best competition in the world due its sheer quality.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has often earned comparisons with the IPL due to the quality of cricket at display in the league but has failed to attract the best players from across the globe over the years. Nonetheless, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja wants to bring in some big changes in the league in order to help it compete with the IPL.

Raja recently hinted at scrapping the existing player draft system in the PSL to move to the auction model like the IPL. IPL doesn't have a draft system and the players are picked at the auction after bidding wars between the teams. Raja wants to increase the purse of the PSL franchises and move to the auction model which he believes will boost the revenue system of the league and attract players as their fees will go up significantly.

There's an argument over the model from next year; I want to switch it to an auction model from next year. The market forces are conducive, but we'll sit down with the franchise owners to discuss it," Raja was quoted as saying by EspnCricinfo.

Raja said if the PSL adopts the auction model, he would like to put the Pakistani league in the same bracket as the IPL. The PCB chief also went on to make a bold claim that he would then see which players would head to the IPL over the PSL.

'We'll see who goes to play IPL': PCB chief Ramiz Raja makes bold claim as hints at changes in PSL

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its chief Ramiz Raja for the poor quality of the pitches in the ongoing Test series between Pakistan and Australia. The pitches used so far in the three-match series have been under the scanner for being too flat and assisting the batters.

The pitch used in the first Test between Pakistan and Australia in Rawalpindi was criticised by many as only 14 wickets fell over the course of five days. The International Cricket Council (ICC) later rated the pitch below-par with several former cricketers also lashing out at the PCB for the poor quality of the track.

Former Pakistan skipper Akram too aimed a dig at the PCB chief over the poor quality of pitches in Pakistan and said he knew the Rawalpindi Test was going to end in a draw after just two deliveries were bowled in the match. Akram said during his playing days only the captain decided what sort of pitches were required by the team and no president used to interfere in such matters.

“During our time it only depended on what kind of pitch the captain wanted, I don't remember any chairman or any official asking us that the pitch should be prepared in a particular way. These two Test matches I tried to watch it but I couldn't," Arkam said while speaking at an event.

"As an ex-fast bowler, I knew this would be a draw match after the second delivery of the match. When West Indies used to come back in our days, when Imran Khan was the captain, we used to make slow pitches,” he added.

The former Pakistan pacer further elaborated on how slow pitches should be made. He insisted that if a team is opting for a slow track, they should ensure it has turn on it for the game to have a result at the end of the five days. Akram said the ongoing Test series between Pakistan and Australia has been boring to watch for him.

“There is a method to making slow tracks. If you want to do that, on the basis of technicality, you roll the centre less and leave the area around the front foot a little dry so that the ball turns from day 1. If you want to make slow pitches at least make it a turner so that we get a result-oriented match. I hope they learn from it whoever is making the pitches. It is quite boring to be honest,” he added.

'Knew it was a draw after 2 deliveries': Wasim Akram slams PCB chief Ramiz Raja for poor pitches in Pakistan

Babar Azam-led Pakistan locked horns with Australia in the first Test at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi on March 04. The match was a run-fest that produced as many as 1,187 runs with only 14 wickets falling overall.

Thus, the historic Test between Pakistan and Australia was a dull affair and ended in a tame draw with no even contest between bat and ball. The pitch for the three-match series opener was, thus, heavily criticised on social media platforms as it wasn't a perfect endorsement for Test cricket. Following the criticism, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja came forward and defended the Rawalpindi pitch.

"A drawn match is never a good advertisement for Test cricket, and I totally understand that we need to get a result in five days these days, and we get it 90% [of the time], but I want to remind you of 2-3 things," Ramiz said in a video message posted on PCB's official Twitter handle.

"It takes 5-6 months to prepare pitches, and during the off-season, you will see - soil is coming from Australia; we've experimented, consulted soil experts and prepared soils, and we will redo 50-60 pitches all over Pakistan once our season ends in March-April. " He further opined, "I understand the fans' frustration and it would have been great if there was a result in this Test match. But do remember that this is a three-Test series and there is a lot of cricket left to be played. We cannot make a fast or bouncy pitch for the heck of it and put the conditions in Australia's lap. It is important that when we play at home, we play according to our strengths."

He has lied, betrayed fans: Kaneria slams PCB chairman Ramiz Raja after his remarks on Rawalpindi pitch

International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday rated the pitch at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi that was used for the first Test between Pakistan and Australia as "below average". Due to this rating, the venue has received one demerit point under the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process."The character of the pitch hardly changed over the course of five days and that there has been no deterioration apart from the bounce getting slightly lower. The pitch did not have a great deal of pace and bounce in it for the seamers nor assisted the spinners as the match progressed," Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees stated in an official statement.

Pak vs Aus: Amid criticism, ICC rates Rawalpindi pitch as 'below average', venue receives one demerit point

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been facing flak from all corners for the sub-standard in Rawalpindi for the recently-concluded first Test between the hosts and Australia. The first Test between the two sides ended in a draw with just 14 wickets falling over the course of the five days as none of the teams managed to churn out a result.

Batting first, Pakistan posted a huge total of 476/4 in their first innings of the Test match before Australia responded with a total of 459 runs in their first innings. Pakistan then went on to score 252 runs without losing a wicket in their second innings as the Test match ended in a draw.

Both the Pakistani and Australian bowlers struggled to pick wickets at regular intervals as batters enjoyed a field day on the flat track in Rawalpindi. In an honest assessment of the pitch after the drawn game, PCB chief Ramiz Raja admitted the game was not a good advertisement for Test cricket.

"A drawn match is never a good advertisement for Test cricket, and I totally understand that we need to get a result in five days these days, and we get it 90% [of the time], but I want to remind you of 2-3 things," Raja said in a video message posted on YouTube.

The PCB chief then went on to explain that the board has already identified the need to revive pitches across Pakitan and the work for the same has already begun. Raja also clarified that the board could not have offered a pace and bounce-friendly track for the very first Test as it would have meant the Aussies would have had the advantage.

"First of all, a number of headlines were in relation to the comments I made when I took over [as chairman] that pitches in Pakistan need to be redone, massively redone, but I took over in September and the season had already begun," said Raja.

"It takes 5-6 months to prepare pitches, and during the off-season, you will see - soil is coming from Australia; we've experimented, consulted soil experts and prepared soils, and we will redo 50-60 pitches all over Pakistan once our season ends in March-April.

"I understand the frustration of the fans - undoubtedly it would have been very good if we had a result, but this is a three-Test series, and we need to understand that a lot of cricket still remains to be played. Just for the heck of it, we can't prepare a fast pitch or a bouncy pitch and put the game in Australia's lap," he added.

'Understand fans' frustration': Ramiz Raja reacts as PCB gets slammed for 'flat' pitch in Rawalpindi Test

Rahul Dravid, the current Indian team head coach, remains a big name in world cricket. The former Indian captain's international career spanned from 1996-2012. During his illustrious 16-year-long career at the highest level, Dravid amassed 13,288 Test and 10,889 ODI runs and was known for his risk-free and orthodox style of batting.

During the second and penultimate Test between India and Pakistan, when Inzamam-ul-Haq & Co. toured India in early 2005, Dravid proved former cricketer Arun Lal's prediction wrong in a hilarious manner. When Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar were batting in the middle, with India well-placed at 261-2 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on-air commentators Ramiz Raja and Lal were discussing how Dravid can go about his business in the middle, during spinner Danish Kaneria's over.

Ramiz suggested that Dravid can target going over the mid-off region -- as the fielder was well inside the inner circle -- with no protection in the deep. To this, Arun replied by saying that 'The Wall' is known to play orthodox shots and, hence, won't fancy for a glory shot. On the very next delivery, Dravid smacked a huge six, off Kaneria, in the long-on region to prove Arun's prediction wrong and also troll him, unintentionally, in a hilarious manner. The Indian commentator also laughed at the sudden turn of events. Here's the video of Dravid's unexpected six:

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Jay Shah has responded to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja's proposal of a four-nation 'T20 Super Series' involving both India and Pakistan. Shah has played down the chances of the series getting materialised anytime soon stating that the BCCI's focus is on helping cricket expand globally which is a huge challenge for all major cricket boards.

PCB chief Raja had come up with a unique proposal earlier this year. He batted for a T20 Super Series involving India, Pakistan, Australia and England and said the profits from the tournament can be shared with all ICC members on a percentage basis. India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral cricket since the 2012-13 season due to the ongoing political tension between the two nations.

India and Pakistan have since continued to meet only in major ICC events. Any meeting between the arch-rivals is highly anticipated by cricket fans across the globe and the game between the two sides becomes a mega affair in any major ICC tournament. While the PCB is making all the efforts to resume bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan, BCCI has so far maintained a strict stand.

BCCI secretary Shah labelled Raja's proposal a 'short-term commercial initiative' while speaking to Reuters. The BCCI secretary asserted that the board will prioritise the expansion of cricket across the globe over such short-term initiatives.

"With the IPL window expanding and the ICC (global) events every year in the cycle, our primary responsibility is to safeguard bilateral cricket at home, with emphasis on test cricket," Shah told Reuters.

"I am also looking forward to seeing cricket at the Olympics, as that will help the game grow. Expansion of the sport is a challenge that our game faces and we must prioritise it over any short-term commercial initiative," he added.

'Short-term commercial initiative': Jay Shah on Ramiz Raja's proposal of 4-nation series involving India, Pak

International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO Geoff Allardice, on Thursday said that he has received no communication from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja regarding the four-nation T20I series, involving both India and Pakistan.

Raja on Tuesday had said that he would make a proposal to the ICC about holding a four nations T20I series comprising both India and Pakistan to be held every year.

He voiced his opinion that he wants to see India, Pakistan, Australia, and England square off in the T20I series every year. The PCB chief also said that if this series indeed goes ahead, then the profits would be shared on a percentage basis with all ICC members.

"We have not had any correspondence or communication with Ramiz Raja regarding any of the ideas. Till we get more detail on what he is thinking, it is hard to comment. At this stage, we have had no communication with Ramiz Raja regarding his idea," said Allardice during a virtual interaction with select media on Thursday.

Allardice also said that the management of the bio-secure bubble would be a real challenge at the upcoming U19 World Cup, adding that the bio-bubble in place would not be a strict one as the apex cricketing body wants players to enjoy the experience of playing in a World Cup.

The U19 World Cup will get underway in Guyana with hosts West Indies taking on Australia in the tournament opener on Friday, and a concurrent second game between Sri Lanka and Scotland will also take place in Georgetown.

"It`s a balance between the risk of catching and passing on the virus versus the freedom that young people are going to be looking for and allow them to enjoy the experience of being involved in an Under-19 World Cup as well. I think the management of that environment over the next few weeks is probably the challenge and being able to react to whatever gets thrown our way," said Allardice.

When asked about the bio-bubble for the World Cup, Allardice said: "We are following a similar model to the Men`s T20 World Cup in the way that we manage the type of accommodation that we are using and the COVID-19 testing frequency. We did learn from the experience in the UAE and we have had other events which have been multi-teams competitions."

"I think majority of the squad members from participating countries are vaccinated for COVID-19. The teams play their matches at a reasonable frequency. So you go to the cricket ground, you play your match, you go back to the hotel accommodation, recover, and then a day or two later, you are back again," he added.

India and Pakistan share one of the greatest rivalries in world cricket. However, the two teams have been deprived of playing any bilateral cricket between them due to the onging political tensions between the two nations. India and Pakistan continue to meet at major ICC events but have not played a bilateral series between them since 2013.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s new chief Ramiz Raja is reportedly set to propose an annual quadrangular series to revive the rivalry between India and Pakistan. As per a report in the Express Tribune, the PCB chairman is planning to propose a quadrangular series involving India, Pakistan, England and Australia in the next ICC meeting.

The series is likely to be played in the T20I format if approved. Raza has previously spoken about the importance of PCB's good relations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in order to ensure the two countries can return back to playing bilateral cricket against each other.

The arch-rivals last met in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 where Pakistan got the better of the Indian team by ten wickets to register a comprehensive win. Pakistan brought an end to their losing streak against India in World Cups with the ten-wicket win to get off to a winning start in the tournament.

Pakistan had lost all 13 matches against India in the history of ODI and T20 World Cups before their blockbuster meeting in Dubai last year. Pakistan restricted India on a moderate total of 151 runs before chasing it down with all ten wickets to spare as openers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan slammed half-centuries apiece.

It remains to be seen if Raja's proposal will be accepted in the ICC meeting and if the two boards will work out a plan to conduct the quadrangular series on an annual basis. Despite India and Pakistan not playing regular bilateral series against each other, their rivalry remains one of the most talked-about ones in world cricket.

PCB chairman Ramiz Raja set to propose quadrangular series to revive India-Pakistan rivalry

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja revealed that skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan have recommended including foreign coaches as part of the team management.

In a video published by the country's cricket board on its official Twitter handle, Raja weighed in on the goals for 2022 and also stated PCB's aim, which is to elevate the sport to the next level in the new year.

During his address, he mentioned that he had a word with Babar, Rizwan and interim head coach Saqlain Mushtaq regarding the team management.

He said that the inclusion of international coaches in the Pakistan team would be helpful.

"I talked to Babar, Saqlain, Rizwan and they opined to integrate foreign coaches in the national team's dressing room," Cricket Pakistan quoted Ramiz Raja as saying.

He further informed what he thinks as he said, "But my way of thinking is quite open on this as I think that locals should be involved on away tours. You need regular coaches only to create the best dressing room environment."

Talking about the Bangladesh and West Indies series, the PCB chairman also said that the aim was to not involve so many technical coaches.

He said, "I wanted to see how they can stand on their feet with their own thinking. One can't have any idea of greatness when he can't grind in the difficult situation without any support."

For those who are now aware, the cricket board has advertised for the coaching staff for Pakistan's team. The board is looking for five player-support personnel roles.

He further informed what he thinks as he said, "But my way of thinking is quite open on this as I think that locals should be involved on away tours. You need regular coaches only to create the best dressing room environment." Talking about the Bangladesh and West Indies series, the PCB chairman also said that the aim was to not involve so many technical coaches. He said, "I wanted to see how they can stand on their feet with their own thinking. One can't have any idea of greatness when he can't grind in the difficult situation without any support." For those who are now aware, the cricket board has advertised for the coaching staff for Pakistan's team. The board is looking for five player-support personnel roles. Yasir Shah controversy not good when there is a feel-good factor going through Pakistan Cricket: Ramiz Raja

After New Zealand had abandoned Pakistan tour right before the toss of the tour-opener was set to take place on September 17, there were severe criticism of the NZC. However, looks like bygones are now bygones as the New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have reached a conclusion as the Black Caps are set to tour Pakistan twice in late 2022-early 2023 and also return for more limited-overs fixtures in April 2023.

The official Twitter handle of the PCB shared the development with one and all on Monday (December 20) and wrote, "Brace yourselves! New Zealand to tour Pakistan for two Tests and three ODIs in December/January 2022-23 and will return in April 2023 for 10 white-ball matches. Exciting, right?"

In the recently concluded ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021, Pakistan defeated India in the Super 12 stage, thanks to their skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan's half-centuries. Pakistan beat India by 10 wickets to register their first-ever win over their arch-rivals at a Twenty20 World Cup.

Pakistan's cricket board chief Ramiz Raja has given an update on scheduling India vs Pakistan matches outside of ICC events. The South Asian countries neighbouring countries square off only in the multi-nation ICC tournaments as the bilateral series between the two has been suspended due to political reasons.

India and Pakistan last met in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE and Oman, when India lost the match by 10 wickets. India last hosted Pakistan in a bilateral series in 2013.

During a media interaction on Wednesday (November 17), Raja said that there's no clarity over holding a bilateral series, however, the two countries could possibly be involved in a tri-series.

"Bilateral series between Pakistan and India seems unlikely at this moment but we can hope to see both teams in action in a tri-nation series perhaps," said Raja.

Recent rumours suggested that India might pull out from the 2025 Champions Trophy, which is will be hosted by Pakistan and will be the first International Cricket Council (ICC) event hosted by Pakistan since it shared the 1996 World Cup with India and Sri Lanka.

"It is not an easy task to pull out of an international tournament. Once the rights are awarded, these feuds between different cricketing boards are also considered while making the decision. In my opinion, India will not pull out," he added.

"I have good working relations with Sourav Ganguly and we have good communication; discussing cricket on a global stage and it can be improved. When two former cricketers are managing things then they focus on cricketing matters and it becomes an easier thing from an administrative standpoint," he further added.

PCB chief Ramiz Raja on the possibility of scheduling India vs Pakistan series

In mid-September 2021, New Zealand cricket team pulled out of their tour of Pakistan at the last minute, just before the tour-opener, citing security concerns. The England Cricket Board (ECB) -- who was also next in-line and set to send their men and women's team to Pakistan -- also withdrew due to "bubble fatigue", which left the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) fuming.

However, the England cricket have made a strong move to amend their mistakes as the ECB boss Tom Harrison travelled to Pakistan to meet his PCB counterpart. Thus, he has assured that the England men's cricket team will tour Pakistan in September 2022, for seven T20Is (comprising two additional games), and return for a three-match Test series in the Asian country post next year's T20 World Cup (in Australia).

As a result of England's commitment, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja lauded the ECB and shared Pakistan cricket's forward plan. In a video shared by the PCB, Raja didn't just thank ECB for confirming the 2022 tour but also revealed that he is planning to introduce U-19 and Women's PSL along with giving the countrymen a full home season every year.

"I'm thankful to the England Cricket Board (ECB), as it wasn't easy for them. They were under pressure and we became emotional when the pullout took place. Everyone saw how Pakistan made its case, and the result is they came here. The only thing is we and the ECB must walk together because it's important for every board to understand each other, their frustrations, meet the expectations. I think the ECB also understood they committed a mistake by withdrawing, and it was a knee-jerk reaction," Raja said in the video.

"This tour was important, and it's their gratefulness. Coming over here to sort things out and accepting their fault and promising to play two additional T20Is is good news for our fans because I believe Pakistan should have a home season so spectators come and watch and top teams should tour."

Ramiz also hinted that NZ might also take a leaf from the ECB and reschedule their cancelled Pakistan tour for next year. "We are also revisiting New Zealand's tour, and when I go to Dubai, we might announce a schedule. However, England and Australia tours are massive breakthroughs, and I expect our side to perform well. I want us to be a proud nation and our fans, our team, and the board to be respected. Also, if we are firm and honest, we need not fear anybody," he said.

Lastly, he also made some big promises and revealed, "In October, hopefully we will launch something like a PSL for Under-19 level. We are very excited because this has not happened anywhere in the world. England will send their Under-19 players, we will look after them. We will create a new property. Going ahead, I will give you a home season."

Ramiz-led PCB have faced several issues ever since the former captain took over the top post. Meanwhile, the Babar Azam-led Pakistan cricket team are also moving forward very strongly in the T20 WC after they were left frustrated post NZ and England's tour withdrawals. Babar & Co. are in the last four of the T20 WC and will play Australia in the second semi-final, on Thursday (November 11) at Dubai.

So far, the Men in Green remain the only unbeaten side in the tournament. Will they return with the coveted title and give the best gift ever to the countrymen, who were left devastated and deprived of enjoying cricketing action on home soil post NZ, England's withdrawals? Only time will tell...

Going ahead, I will give you a home season." ٹام ہیریسن کا پاکستان آنا خوش آئند ہے، چیئرمین پی سی بی رمیز راجہ کی مستقبل کے منصوبوں پر گفتگو pic.twitter.com/mtJgNN1OZ8 — Pakistan Cricket (@TheRealPCB) November 9, 2021 × ALSO READ | T20 WC, semi-finals schedule: England face New Zealand, Australia to lock horns with Pakistan Ramiz-led PCB have faced several issues ever since the former captain took over the top post. 'This will be a great series,' says PCB chairman Ramiz Raja as West Indies women to tour Pakistan for 3 ODIs

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja said the board needs to forge a cricketing bond with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to revitalise the cricketing ties between the two nations. Raja recently met BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah on the sidelines of the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in the UAE.

India and Pakistan, who share one of the greatest rivalries in cricket, have not played a bilateral series between them since 2013. The two sides meet only in major ICC competitions due to the ongoing political tensions between the two nations. However, Raja wants politics to stay away from sports as PCB tries to repair ties with India.

"I met with BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah on the sidelines of the ACC meetings. We need to create a cricketing bond, while I have also believed that politics should stay away from the sport as much as possible and this has always been our stance," said PCB chief Raja.

"A lot of work needs to be done to revitalise Pakistan-India cricket but there needs to be some comfort level between the two boards and then we can see how far we can go. So overall, we had a good discussion," he added

India and Pakistan, who last met in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019, will resume their rivalry when the two teams lock horns in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. India and Pakistan will open their T20 World Cup campaign against each other in what promises to be a blockbuster clash at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24.

India have never lost against Pakistan in the history of the T20 World Cup and will be looking to extend their winning streak against the arch-rivals.

Need to create cricketing bond with BCCI, says PCB chief Ramiz Raja after meeting Sourav Ganguly, Jay Shah

The 2023 Asia Cup in Pakistan will be a 50-over event with the Asian Cricket Council continuing its tradition of holding the tournament in the same format as that particular year's ICC global event, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja said on Monday.

However, the former Pakistan captain also dropped enough hints that there is very little chance of having a bilateral series against India in near future as a "lot of work still needs to be done" to reach a "comfortable level".

Raja recently attended the ACC meet in Dubai where he discussed the modalities of Asia Cup and also had a meeting with BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah.

"The ACC has agreed and approved that the 2023 event in Pakistan will be a 50-over competition and will be held in September. This aligns very nicely with the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be held in October and November (in India)," Raja told PCB's official website.

While Raja said that the tournament will be held in Pakistan, chances of India visiting the neighbouring nation is next to nil if the current political climate persists, which is going to be the likely case.

In that case one can expect that like 2018, the tournament will be shifted to Dubai.

"We are looking forward to hosting this tournament in Pakistan and I am confident it will be a well-organised event because this is what the fans want.

"The ACC has also confirmed next year's tournament in Sri Lanka will be played on a 20-over format and will be a prelude to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 to be held in Australia from 16 October to 13 November," Raja added.

Raja understands that ACC as a body has no power to dictate terms to a giant like BCCI and that's the reason he sounded a word of caution for the continental body knowing that their could be a shift of Asia Cup by the time 2023 arrives.

"The ACC was set-up to create a unified approach and collective stance so that we had one voice and if there was a situation, all stood together.

"I would like to see our relationship with other boards and the ACC to be strong so that if there is an issue, like we had with the withdrawal of a couple of sides, a strong and joint statement could come out from the ACC platform.

"My message at the ACC was that we should not forget this philosophy and I am optimistic there will be better outcomes in future," he concluded.
