While the qualifiers begin on October 16, the main draw of the competition will kick off on October 22 with India and Pakistan meeting each other at the iconic MCG, Melbourne on October 23.

In the last one year, the two senior men's sides have met thrice, with Babar Azam &amp; Co. having a 2-1 lead. Before India and Pakistan meet again, on October 23 at the MCG,&nbsp;PCB chief Ramiz Raja made heads turn with his recent remarks. The former Pakistan captain is of the opinion that India once used to take the field with the notion that their arch-rivals will never be able to beat them.&nbsp;

"It is a mental match more than skill and talent. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja has issued a warning to the Babar Azam-led side ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022, stating that losing will not be an option for them in the upcoming world cup. Pakistan will start as one of the strongest contenders for the title at the World Cup which is set to get underway in Australia next month.

Pakistan have been in sublime form in T20Is over the last few years and have enjoyed great success in the tournament. Babar &amp; Co. had made it to the semi-final of the tournament last year but failed to go the distance. They will be hoping to go all the way this year and lift the trophy Down Under.

Ahead of the showpiece event, Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ramiz Raja was asked what are his expectations from the team this year. Raja said he has already told the players losing won't be an option for them at the World Cup. "I’ve told my team that we need to win. It’s as simple as that because people want us to win all the time. So, if they lose, I just can’t take it. I’m a bad loser," Raza was quoted as saying by Geo TV.

"I feel like hitting people around me when I see Pakistan losing. I am a very terrible watcher, actually. I get scolded at home because I offend everybody completely.

"This is the only sport that contributes to bringing smiles back on people’s faces. It lifts your nation’s morale," he added.

Raja had recently been criticised for snapping at an Indian reporter after Pakistan's defeat against Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup 2022. The PCB chief lost his cool at the Indian journalist over his question about Pakistan's defeat and snatched his phone before giving it back.

"When Rizwan fell ill during the T20 World Cup 2022, who took care of him? Our doctor's panel stayed up all night to treat him, they got him fit and they ensured he played in the final (semi-final). It could be that in this case, there was a lack of clarity.

PCB confirms Babar Azam-led Pakistan to tour Netherlands for three ODIs in August

The all-powerful ICC board will conclude its two-day meeting on Sunday with the process of nominating/renominating the chairman along with the ambitious four-nation proposal pitched by PCB chairman Ramiz Raja to be placed on the table.

Raja, who has prepared a white paper for an annual four-nation meet (T20/ODI) involving Pakistan, India, Australia and England, to be held under the aegis of ICC, believes that revenue to the tune of USD 750 million could be raked in by the parent body and distributed among its members.

While India only plays Pakistan in multi-nation events like Asia Cup and World Cup, the multi-nation tournament becomes a tricky issue and it remains to be seen whether BCCI shows any keen interest.

As of now, BCCI wants to honour all its bilateral commitments with a jam-packed calendar and whether a window can be squeezed in is the bone of contention.

However, with ICC's chairmanship up for grabs unless Greg Barclay seeks a renomination, there could be interesting developments which might emerge after Sunday's meeting gets over.

While there is a buzz that Barclay might seek renomination but in politics of cricket adminstration, one month is a lot of time and it will be till second week of May that the New Zealander might get a chance to seek extension if he wishes to.

If not, then any candidate from the member nation might throw his hat in the ring with nominations from two other full member nations.

The BCCI hasn't yet made any official announcement about whether anyone from its top brass will throw their respective hats in the ring.

Originally, there was a possibility that the renomination or nomination would have happened in the month of June but that changed after deliberations between the member boards.

The decision also helps the BCCI buy time as they are likely to have their AGM in September after which the composition of the national parent body will be clear.

The BCCI has already appealed, seeking a a few changes in the Lodha Constitution which many feel till date is practically non-implementable.

It will be interesting to see whether president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah go for a cooling-off in September.

Shah's name is doing the rounds as the next chairman of ICC but there has been no confirmation from either the BCCI secretary himself or sources close to him about his apparent interest in throwing his hat in the ring.

PCB chairman Ramiz Raja's ambitious proposal of conducting a four-nation tourney comprising India, Australia, England under the aegis of the ICC was unanimously rejected by the all-powerful board even though there was a projected revenue of USD 750 million for five years.

"In any case, ICC's Financial and Commercial Affairs Committee (F&amp;CA) was against this proposal. As we know that the MPA (Members Participation Agreement) doesn't allow any member nation to host more than tri-nation, organizing four-nation every year would have in any case devalued ICC's own marquee events," a board member said.

Another sensitive issue which board members are talking in hushed tones is whether Raja will remain PCB chairman for long after Imran Khan was removed from Prime Minister's position.

PCB chairman is a political appointee as Pakistan PMs are always Patron-in-chief of the board. Hence Raja, an appointee of Imran Khan, might be forced to tender his resignation in current political climate.

The BCCI was always clear in its stand that it won't play four-nations with its calender choc-a-bloc and a lot of bilateral commitments that need to be honoured. On top of that is player's workload and mental health.

There were reports that ECB's Tom Harrison was also independently interested in exploring ideas of a four-nation tourney but it's now evident that nothing of that sort happened at board meeting.

Neutral umpires to make comeback in Tests 
 
The ICC Cricket Committee acknowledged that the performance of home umpires was strong and had not affected games. The use of home umpires had also led to 12 members of the International Panel umpires making their Test match debut.

In line with a previous recommendation from the men's Cricket Committee, the CEC agreed that more neutral match officials should be utilised as travel restrictions are lifted while building on the success of the use of home umpires.

From the next season, one neutral on-field umpire will make a comeback in Test matches along with home team's elite panel umpire for company. For white ball games, ICC's Elite and Emirates panel home umpires will continue doing the job.

The ICC Board received an update from the Afghanistan Working Group which recommended Mirwais Ashraf as the ACB's appointed representative to the Board.

The ACB confirmed their continued commitment to developing women's cricket and will submit a full action plan and budget to do so to the Working Group which will continue to monitor the situation and receive regular updates on its progress.

The qualification pathway for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 was confirmed with 12 teams qualifying automatically for the event.

The top eight teams from the 2022 event will be joined by the two host Members, West Indies and USA plus the next highest-ranked teams on the MRF ICC Men's T20 rankings table as of November 14, 2022.

ICC Meet: Chairman Barclay to complete his term, Ramiz Raja's proposal rejected, Jay Shah in cricket committee

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja is considering resigning from his position in the wake of the ouster of Imran Khan as prime minister of the country, according to sources.

Ramiz, who like Imran is also a former Pakistan captain, is presently in Dubai for the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings which concluded on Sunday.

"Ramiz had only agreed to become the chairman of the Board on the insistence of Imran for whom all the players who played under his captaincy including Ramiz have a lot of regard and respect,"&nbsp;a source well aware of the developments said on Sunday.

"Ramiz was well set in a career as commentator, TV personality and expert and was busy with assignments. But on Imran's insistence he agreed to put aside all his media contacts and become chairman of the board,"&nbsp;the source said.

"Ramiz had also made it clear to the PM that he would only remain in the Board until he (Imran Khan) was PM."

The source said that with Imran now ousted as PM, who is also Patron-in-Chief of the Board and directly nominates the chairman for a formal election process, it is highly unlikely Ramiz would stay on unless the new Premier wants him to carry on with his job.

Since Ramiz took over as PCB chairman last September he has made a lot of changes in the Board and also followed up on Imran's insistence on a domestic cricket structure based on just six first class provincial teams.

Soon after taking charge, he made it clear to Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis that they were no longer required as head coach and bowling coach of the national team and should resign.

He also asked the head of the high-performance centre in Lahore, Grant Bradburn, and some other coaches to resign.

His biggest move was to create circumstances where Wasim Khan stepped down as CEO of the Board.

Since then, Ramiz has brought in a new CEO but with Imran's government now gone, it remains to be seen what will happen to the new appointments in the Board as it is no secret that political changes also have a big bearing on Pakistan cricket set-up.

"If Shahbaz Sharif becomes new Premier, then there is every likelihood he might convey to Ramiz his services are no longer required and bring back Najam Sethi to head the Board,"&nbsp;the source said.

But, with no international or domestic commitments for the national team until June, changes in the Board will not affect cricket affairs.

Sethi resigned soon after Imran won the last general elections as he never got along with the former captain on political issues.

"Ramiz had only agreed to become the chairman of the Board on the insistence of Imran for whom all the players who played under his captaincy including Ramiz have a lot of regard and respect," a source well aware of the developments said on Sunday. "Ramiz was well set in a career as commentator, TV personality and expert and was busy with assignments. But on Imran's insistence he agreed to put aside all his media contacts and become chairman of the board," the source said. The source said that with Imran now ousted as PM, who is also Patron-in-Chief of the Board and directly nominates the chairman for a formal election process, it is highly unlikely Ramiz would stay on unless the new Premier wants him to carry on with his job. Since Ramiz took over as PCB chairman last September he has made a lot of changes in the Board and also followed up on Imran's insistence on a domestic cricket structure based on just six first class provincial teams. Soon after taking charge, he made it clear to Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis that they were no longer required as head coach and bowling coach of the national team and should resign. He also asked the head of the high-performance centre in Lahore, Grant Bradburn, and some other coaches to resign. "If Shahbaz Sharif becomes new Premier, then there is every likelihood he might convey to Ramiz his services are no longer required and bring back Najam Sethi to head the Board," the source said. But, with no international or domestic commitments for the national team until June, changes in the Board will not affect cricket affairs. Sethi resigned soon after Imran won the last general elections as he never got along with the former captain on political issues.

As per PTI, Ramiz is planning to the senior BCCI officials on the sidelines of the ICC event and&nbsp;extend his proposal of a four-nation tournament along with discussing matters on the Asia Cup.

In a recent interview, Ramiz had mentioned that since the BCCI is being led by a cricketer, he has his hopes&nbsp;pinned&nbsp;on not leaving&nbsp;fans deprived&nbsp;of&nbsp;India-Pakistan bilateral series.

"India-Pakistan (2022 T20 World Cup) tickets were sold in one day, we don't have a political perspective on things and if a fellow cricketer is leading the BCCI, we should be approachable to each other since we don't know politics," said Ramiz.

"I'll talk to Ganguly regarding a four-nation tournament. The future of cricket is in triangular and four-nation competitions. Twenty20 leagues are taking away eyeballs from bilateral cricket, of which the novelty factor is decreasing," he further added.&nbsp;

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja had recently shared his views on revamping the Pakistan Super League (PSL) by introducing an auction system like the Indian Premier League (IPL) to ensure it can be put in the same bracket as the Indian league.

Raja had also claimed that no player would prefer IPL over PSL once the&nbsp;auction-based model is adopted&nbsp;in Pakistan's domestic T20 tournament. The PCB chief had faced ire from Indian fans on social media after his&nbsp;&nbsp;"we'll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL" comment.

In order to make PSL compete against IPL, PCB chief Raja plans to bring in changes in the rules of the competition. Speaking about the same in an interview last month, Raja had said - "This is a game of money. When the cricket economy grows in Pakistan, our respect will rise. The main driver of that financial economy is the PSL. If we take the PSL to auction model, increase the purse, then I’ll put it in the IPL bracket. And then we’ll see who goes to play the IPL over the PSL."

He has now clarified his remarks after facing backlash over the same and has said he is aware India's economy is in a far better position than Pakistan at present. In an interview with Cricbuzz, Raja said he has plans to improve PSL but was misquoted on the other part.

India have been pencilled as one of the four participating sides in the four-Nations T20 Super League Series proposal, which Ramiz plans to table at the April 10 ICC Board meeting in Dubai.

The event host, the concept (white) paper says, will be decided amongst the four participants, with each participating side to stage the tournament on a rotation basis with ICC like its other global events running the tournament.

However, it has been learnt that BCCI is unlikely to relent.

"Our Futures Tours &amp; Programme (FTP) is packed. Also the fact that there are lot of factors and as of now, there is no change in policy of playing them at ICC events. Also, we don't think ICC will be ready to organize a four-nation and Raja's proposal will be turned down," a senior BCCI official said.

India and Pakistan have played each other only in ICC or ACC events since 2012 when the last bilateral white-ball series was held.

Recently, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had stated in an interview to a foreign news agency that board is currently more focussed on honouring its bilateral commitments.

"The calender is choc-a-bloc and also we need to keep players physical and mental health in mind with so much of cricket being played,' the official said.

According to proposal prepared by Ramiz, "the quadrangular series will be played on a single-league basis around September/October, which is a low cricket period due to the eve of cricket seasons in Australia, India and Pakistan, and the tail-end of the cricket season in England.

"The proposal suggests a potential revenue of USD 750 million, which the PCB boss wants to be distributed amongst the participating nations and other ICC members through a distribution model," a PCB source told PTI.

While Ramiz wants ICC to be the organizers of such an event, PCB sources feel that it will in no way undermine the global events.

"It is not an attempt to undermine the ICC Events or the ICC Events Cycle. The ICC tried the Super Series in 2005, so there is no harm in testing waters for another event," the source said.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Babar Azam-ed Pakistan cricket team after their shambolic defeat against Australia in the final third Test of the three-match series at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore on Friday (March 25). Australia skittled out Pakistan for 235 runs in their second innings to win the game by 115 runs and clinch the series 1-0.

Skipper Cummins led the charge as the Australian bowlers ran through the Pakistan batting line-up in the final session on Day 5 of the Lahore Test. Cummins picked up the important wickets of Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan to finish with three wickets to his name while spinner Nathan Lyon bagged a five-wicket haul.&nbsp;

Akhtar lashed out at the Pakistan team management and the PCB for their defensive mindset. He also criticised PCB's move to create flat pitches for the series which ended up backfiring for the hosts. The former Pakistan pacer was all praise for Cummins and the Australian team for being brave and putting up a fight in the series.

"Absolutely disappointing series, this. Absolute nonsense. The mindset of both, the Pakistan Cricket Board and probably the team management was to draw this series. Neither should they win, nor us; just end this series in a draw," Akhtar said in a video on his official YouTube channel.

"But hats off to Australians. I'm genuinely happy for them. This is not their home, none of these players played in Pakistan before; they came here and play brave cricket.
