Prince Harry and Prince William paid tribute to their late mother Diana at the Kensington Palace on July 1, which marks her 60th birth anniversary. Despite the ongoing royal tension, the brothers who were not on good terms with each other in recent years were all smiles while unveiling the statue together.

As per reports by Page Six, the Duke of Sussex was spotted at the Los Angeles airport on Saturday morning. On Thursday, the brothers joined the armed forces at their childhood home, Kensington Palace, to reveal the statue, which they commissioned four years ago.

The sculpture depicts their mother with three children, reflecting Diana`s work to support and nurture children around the world. Despite speculation that the royal brothers might each deliver a speech for the occasion, they issued a joint statement that read, "We remember her love, strength and character-- qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better. Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and legacy."

As per Page Six, the statue, which features Diana standing beside three children to represent her "generational impact," includes a paving stone engraved with the message, "There are the units to measure the worth of this woman as a woman regardless of birth. Not what was her station? But had she a heart? How did she play her God-given part?"

The guest list of the event was cut short to only 15 people due to the COVID-19 safety protocols. Among the guests, Diana`s sisters- Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Lady Jane Fellowes, and her brother, Charles Spencer were also present.

William`s wife Kate Middleton was not in attendance, nor was Harry`s wife, Meghan Markle, who remained in California with the couple`s two young children: 2-year-old son Archie Harrison and daughter Lilibet Diana, who was born on June 4.

The event marked the first time the brothers have been together since the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip in May. Plans for the statue were first announced in February 2017, although the event was scaled back due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions in the UK.

Prince Charles to skip Princess Diana's statue unveiling. Here's why

Britain's feuding princes, William and Harry, will put their differences aside on Thursday to attend the unveiling of a statue to their late mother Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday.

For most of their lives, the royal brothers have been close, united by the shared trauma of losing their mother who died aged 36 in a 1997 Paris car crash when William was 15 and Harry 12.

But since Harry's 2018 wedding to his American actress wife Meghan, relations between them have soured and an explosive interview that the couple gave chat show host Oprah Winfrey in March marked a new low.

In it, Harry, now 36, criticised his father Charles and said William, 39, and the family were trapped, while the couple accused one unnamed royal of making a racist remark.

Biographer Robert Lacey said that in April the brothers quarrelled in the immediate aftermath of the funeral of Prince Philip, their grandmother Queen Elizabeth's husband of more than 70 years, and there was no sign of any improvement.

"The conflict between Diana's two bitterly divided sons does not seem likely to end any time soon," he wrote in the Daily Mail, adding that friends and family were trying to forge a reconciliation.

This week's unveiling in London of the statue, which the princes commissioned four years ago to celebrate Diana's life, provides a rare opportunity for such a rapprochement, with Harry returning from his new home in the United States.

"Unless one of them is going to say sorry, and I think that probably has to be Harry, I can't see this relationship at the moment mending itself," royal commentator Penny Junor said.

"My understanding is the boys are not speaking to one other, certainly not in the way brothers normally speak," she told Reuters.

'WE'VE BEEN THROUGH HELL'

Harry told Winfrey that their relationship was "space at the moment", but hoped time would heal it.

"I love William to bits, he's my brother, we've been through hell together and we have a shared experience. But we're on different paths," he said.

The situation deteriorated sharply in March this year when they gave an explosive interview to Oprah Winfrey, accusing one unnamed royal of making a racist remark and saying Meghan`s pleas for help when she felt suicidal were ignored. Harry, 36, and Meghan live in a secluded $14 million mansion in the celebrity enclave of Montecito, about 80 miles (130 km) north of Los Angeles, which is also home to Winfrey, comedian Ellen DeGeneres, and other celebrities.

Gravitas| BBC's deceit: The Diana Interview

An inquiry into how the BBC got a sensational 1995 interview with Princess Diana in which she disclosed intimate details of her failed marriage found on Thursday that the journalist involved had acted deceitfully and the broadcaster had covered it up.

The BBC set up the investigation, headed by former senior Court judge John Dyson, in November following allegations from Diana`s brother Charles Spencer that he had been tricked into introducing her to journalist Martin Bashir.

"Mr Bashir deceived and induced him to arrange a meeting with Princess Diana," the report said. "Mr Bashir acted inappropriately and in serious breach of the 1993 edition of the Producers’ Guidelines on straight dealing."

During the 'Panorama' interview, watched by more than 20 million viewers in Britain, Diana shocked the nation by admitting to an affair and sharing details of her marriage to the heir to the throne, Prince Charles.

It was the first time Diana, who died in a Paris car crash in 1997, had made public comments about her doomed marriage.

Her remark that "there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded" - a reference to Charles rekindling his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles, now his second wife - was particularly damaging to the Windsors.

Dyson`s report found that Bashir, then a little known reporter, had shown Spencer fake bank statements to persuade him to set up a meeting with Diana.

Spencer says Bashir had told him Diana was being bugged by the security services and two senior aides were being paid to provide information about her.

'LIED'

After it was aired, Bashir repeatedly lied to his bosses about how the interview was obtained, the report said. As questions continued, BBC managers failed to scrutinise his version of events properly and covered up facts about how Bashir had secured the interview.

"Without justification, the BBC fell short of the high standards of integrity and transparency which are its hallmark," the report said.
The interview propelled Bashir into the limelight and he later went on to carry out high-profile interviews with other celebrities, notably the late US singer Michael Jackson.

Last week, the BBC announced that he was leaving his current job as the publicly funded broadcaster`s religious affairs editor because of ill health.

Bashir issued a statement in which he apologised for the fake statements, but said he stood by his evidence from 25 years ago and that he did not believe they had prompted Diana to give the interview.

Dyson`s report included a handwritten note from Diana penned a month after the interview in which she said she had no regrets and that Bashir did not show him any information of which she was not previously aware.

"By his deceitful behaviour...Mr Bashir succeeded in engineering the meeting that led to the interview," the report said. "But it is important to add that Princess Diana would probably have agreed to be interviewed."

The BBC said there had been clear failings and it would hand back the awards the programme won.

"While the BBC cannot turn back the clock after a quarter of a century, we can make a full and unconditional apology." BBC Director-General, Tim Davie, said in a statement.

Diana`s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, have previously welcomed the investigation as a chance to find out the truth of what had happened.

By calling it was a fairytale moment, he said, “She spins around and gives me that captivating smile, just a little sad, and accepts my invitation. And there we were, dancing together as if it were a fairytale.” He added, “Who could ever imagine something like that would happen to them someday? I was smart enough to stamp it in my memory as a very special, magical moment.”

Prince William and Prince Harry are set to reunite publicly this summer to unveil a statue of their late mother Princess Diana. Reports suggest that William is keen to meet his brother in private before they make their public appearance together.

The brothers are expected to come together to unveil the statue at Kensington Palace on July 1 which marks Princess Diana's 60th birthday.

Harry, 36, who is currently residing in California, is expected to attend. A source told Us Weekly that William, 38, is hoping the two can meet before the public appearance, which will be scrutinized by the British tabloids.

This will be the first public outing for the two brothers since Harry and Meghan's explosive tell-all interview to Oprah was aired in March.

"Harry has so much going on in his life work-wise and is busy planning for the arrival of (his) daughter that he’s trying not to overthink the consequences that may arise upon his return to the UK," the source told the publication.

"All eyes will be on them at the unveiling, critics will be analyzing their every move and how they interact with each other," the source continued.

"(William) doesn’t believe that it’s feasible for them to reunite in the public eye without showing signs of tension if they don’t thrash out their differences in advance."

The communication between the two brothers, the insider claims, has been 'sparse'. Despite the tensions between the two, William has reportedly kept the line of communication open, specially to discuss their mother's statue- which the two have together commissioned.

On March 7th, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave a bombshell interview to Oprah Winfrey that has been viewed by nearly 50 million people globally.

During the two-hour special, Harry revealed that his relationships with his father Prince Charles, 72, as well as his older brother, are strained. Meghan also alleged that a member of the royal family had raised concern about the skin colour of their unborn child during Meghan's first pregnancy. William later stated that no family member was racist.

The statue was reportedly commissioned in 2017 "to mark the twentieth anniversary of her death and recognize her positive impact in the UK and around the world."

When they faced delays, the brothers decided to unveil the statue to mark their mother's birthday.

Diana passed away in 1997 at age 36 from injuries she sustained in a Paris car crash.
"The statue is to reflect on Diana’s legacy, not their feud, and William wants to keep it that way," the source added.

'The Crown' stars are defending Netflix’s decision not to put a fiction disclaimer on the historical drama. Ever since the fourth season has released the show has created controversy for the fictional scenes.

It was first started after UK’s Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden suggested that the program should put a disclaimer ahead of each episode to inform their viewers that the drama is a fictionalization of the British royal family history.

'The Crown': 7 times the Netflix series was factually incorrect
Emma Corrin who played Princess Diana in the show, compared the show to HBO Max' ‘Succession’ and defended Netflix for not adding a fiction disclaimer.

“It is very clearly a dramatized version of events," Corrin said in an interview. ''This is fictitious in the same way people don’t mistake ‘Succession’ for what actually happened with the Murdochs.''

All you ‘The Crown’ watchers who thought late Princess Diana actually sang for Prince Charles as his present for wedding anniversary are in for a surprise as makers admit that it did not happen in real life. It was all just a figment of imagination of Netflix show ‘The Crown’ makers.

The singing scene in which Princess Diana played by Emma Corin sings for Prince Charles to which he is shown later admitting “was monstrous” to his sister Princess Anne -- was just imagined by the makers for impact. The makers discovered in way of filming Emma Corin as Princess Diana that she could sing well. So they added the bit of song ‘All I Ask Of You’ from ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ to the show right after she performs for Charles in front of an audience on his birthday.

Kristen Stewart has found her connection with Princess Diana as she is playing the late Royal in an upcoming film 'Spencer'.

During a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Kristen Stewart opened up about how she feels about the late royal,

"I didn’t grow up with her maybe in the same way, I was really young when she passed away," Stewart, who was only seven when Diana died, explained. "I was really young, [I] didn’t know what was going on. It’s hard not to feel protective of her. She was so young."

Talking about the biopic Kristen revealed that rather than simply rehashing biographical details of Diana's life 'Spencer' will turn inward.

She said, “The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice, and it’s so, so distinct and particular. I’m working on it now and already have my dialect coach. In terms of research, I’ve gotten through two and a half biographies, and I’m finishing all the material before I actually go make the movie. It’s one of the saddest stories to exist ever, and I don’t want to just play Diana — I want to know her implicitly. I haven’t been this excited about playing a part, by the way, in so long.”

Earlier, Kristen Stewart spoke of the role and said that she remains “viscerally affected” by images of Princess Diana’s funeral, which she remembers watching as a child.

Princess Diana's brother opens up about her depiction in 'The Crown' season 4

'The Crown' Season 4 has been the latest addition to the binge list of millions across the globe. The show has been garnering enough attention for introducing the royals' most controversial chapter - Princess Diana. While a lot has been shown about the tumultuous relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles, the one key moment the show skipped was the grand royal wedding.
The show teased Princess Diana’s wedding dress for months, so it came as a surprise when the show skipped her extravagant wedding to Prince Charles. The couple's wedding—which took place on July 29, 1981—is considered one of the biggest events in modern history as it is estimated nearly one billion people watched or listened to the broadcast live. This, it turns out, is precisely why The Crown's makers chose to leave it out.

"The wedding scene, you can YouTube it and you could be watching it in 10 seconds, so I don't think there'd be any point in us recreating it," Emma Corrin, who portrays Lady Diana throughout the fourth season of the series, told The Hollywood Reporter.
However, Corrin points out that the depiction of the wedding was not crucial to the plot. "We never recreate things just for the sake of recreating them," she explained.

The awkward Charles and Diana post-engagement interview did make the cut as it fit the story of the two characters well. “I think if we do recreate a scene—like the engagement scene, for instance, when they do the announcement—it has to be because it's linked to something that the characters are going through,” Corrin continued. "It has to be part of the story. It has to further the plot, basically."

Corrin further explained that 'The Crown' is about Queen Elizabeth, not Princess Diana. “Everything actually has to feed back to the Queen. Even Diana’s plotline, it’s all about what she’s doing and the effect that that’s having on the Queen," she said. "That’s why it’s called The Crown.”
Read the review of 'The Crown' season 4 The show teased Princess Diana’s wedding dress for months, so it came as a surprise when the show skipped her extravagant wedding to Prince Charles. The couple's wedding—which took place on July 29, 1981—is considered one of the biggest events in modern history as it is estimated nearly one billion people watched or listened to the broadcast live. This, it turns out, is precisely why The Crown's makers chose to leave it out. 'The Crown' season 4 skipped Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding for this reason

WASHINGTON — I’ve been riveted all week by the spectacle of the most famous blond phenom on the planet, a child isolated and miserable living inside a national landmark, lashing out and spiraling into self-destructive acts.

But eventually I had to turn off the new season of “The Crown,” focusing on Princess Diana, and drag my attention back to Donald Trump, who is trashing this place before checking out like he’s Axl Rose at a Four Seasons.

Diana and Donald shared a few things in common: their toxic tango with the press, their psychic connection with their fan base, their willingness to blow up norms. They were both “unpredictable meteors,” as Tony Blair once described Di. They both savored sitting in their rooms glued to their own coverage on TV, dialing up their chosen reporters to control the narrative. They were both unhappy at the top, fretting about being undercut. Diana almost upended the monarchy, and Trump is doing his worst to upend democracy.

That’s where the similarities end. In terms of empathy, hugging the afflicted, the radiant Diana and the radioactive Trump are opposites. And while watching her fractured fairy tale breaks your heart, watching his fractious exit makes your head hurt. The young princess feared she was going mad amid barking corgis; the 74-year-old president wallows in his barking madness.

On Friday afternoon, Trump continued embarrassing himself and the nation when he finally emerged, after sulking in his tent for days, and asserted that he had won the election. He blamed Big Pharma, Big Tech and the media for his woes.

He sent out a fundraising message praising the news conference with his lawyers, a dripping Rudy Giuliani and a rabid Sidney Powell laying out the absurd phantom global conspiracy that is thwarting Trump’s reelection.

Then Trump met with Michigan GOP officials, brazenly trying to subvert democracy and claw back a swing state, or even just feed his ego by delegitimizing the election in the eyes of his base. But the Michigan lawmakers came out of the White House and said they would “follow the normal process” that has Joe Biden ahead even as the governor of Georgia certified the results there for Biden.

It would be merely pathetic to watch Trump toss nails on the road behind him if it weren’t so dangerous.

Biden needs all the air in his tires and a full tank of gas when he pulls that Corvette into the White House driveway in two months, because this country is shot to hell and running on empty.

Trump is sabotaging the transition as the pandemic rages, engaging in midnight maneuvers like ending several emergency lending programs that could buoy the economy and attempting to ravage Alaska’s wildlife refuge.

Republicans remain as mute and frightened of Trump as ever. Mitch McConnell could stop this nonsense with one sentence: “We’re moving on and recognizing Joe Biden as president-elect.” But he refuses to, letting the damage to the country unspool to protect his own standing with the base and to hold onto those two Senate seats in Georgia that make him majority leader.

It’s outrageous that Congress left town for the holidays this weekend without passing COVID relief. But Republicans, who are already all about setting themselves up for the next election, prefer to put Biden in a bind and later trash him for big spending. Never mind that they’re leaving millions of Americans in the lurch.

After watching unfeeling Republicans, it’s not really an escape to turn on “The Crown” and watch that unfeeling bunch — Margaret Thatcher and the royals.

Peter Morgan, the writer of “The Queen” and creator of “The Crown,” spent a large chunk of his career refurbishing the queen’s reputation after the disastrous period following Diana’s death, when Blair had to beg Queen Elizabeth to show more emotion.

But in this fourth season of “The Crown,” Morgan presents a more brittle queen as the bulimic Diana is crying out for help and the Boss blows her off, feeling Charles and Diana are spoiled, immature and letting the side down.

Diana, perfectly played by Emma Corrin, describes the palace as “a cold, frozen tundra; an icy, dark, loveless cave with no light, no hope anywhere — not even the faintest crack.”

Morgan’s portrayal of Charles is rough as well. The Prince of Wales is too in love with Camilla, too jealous of Diana and too wounded from his upbringing to give his marriage a real chance.

When I covered the visit of Charles and Diana to Washington in 1985, the couple seemed happy. But problems were brewing. An insecure future king was sure to be jealous of a wife who sluiced all the attention away simply by tucking down her chin and flashing a look from under her eyelashes. And it was clear that Diana, who was called “Duch” as a girl because she always acted like a duchess, was learning how to channel her electric star power.

The gala at the Reagan White House — Duch meets Dutch — was a showcase for Diana, shimmering in blue velvet and a pearl choker, not Charles. Nancy Reagan had gathered a pantheon of leading men for the princess: Mikhail Baryshnikov, Clint Eastwood, Tom Selleck and, as a dancing partner when the Marine Band played “Night Fever,” John Travolta.

In “The Art of the Comeback” in 1997, Trump said that his only regret “in the women department” was that he didn’t date Diana after her divorce. He said “she lit up the room with her charm, her presence,” and was “a dream lady.”

Dream on, Donald. Of his wooing, Diana told a friend, “He gives me the creeps.”

Di, we know how you feel.
