<p>Prince Harry has rubbished the claims to being against Prince William or&nbsp;the investigation into Princess Diana's <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/bombshell-interview-of-princess-diana-on-her-troubled-marriage-to-be-probed-344037">controversial interview with Martin Bashir.</a></p>

<p>A source close to Prince Harry is responded to a recent tabloid reports that accused the royal of failing to support his brother and protect their late mother's legacy.<br />
<br />
The source was quoted by E! News saying&nbsp;"Harry is getting regular updates and is aware of everything that is happening."<br />
<br />
"You do not need a public statement to imagine how he is feeling privately, people know how much his mother means to him," the insider added.<br />
<br />
"He has bravely spoken out in the past about loss and grief, and the immense impact it has had on him. Sadly, some people are not just seeing this as a drive for truth, but also trying to use this as an opportunity to drive a wedge between the brothers."</p>

<p>The source revealed that Prince Harry&nbsp;thinks the commentary surrounding his reportedly fractured relationship with Prince William is "utterly horrid and offensive."<br />
<br />
The source's comments come just two just after Prince William addressed the BBC's investigation into the 1995 tell-all interview. On November&nbsp;18, the royal said in a statement, "The independent investigation is a step in the right direction. It should help establish the truth behind the actions that led to the Panorama interview and subsequent decisions taken by those in the BBC at the time."</p>

<p>According to the BBC, they will investigate whether it's true that Martin Bashir coerced Diana into participating in the interview through the use of false bank documents.</p>

<p>These accusations came to light in the ITV documentary 'The Diana Interview: Revenge of a Princess', which featured the testimony of Panorama graphic designer Matt Wiessler. Wiessler claimed that Bashir asked him to create fake documents that allegedly showed palace staff were paid to spy on Princess Diana.</p>

Bombshell interview of Princess Diana on her troubled marriage to be probed

<p>Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ is back with another season as it takes the story of the British monarchy forward by a few years. Olivia Colman returns as the reigning monarch (Queen Elizabeth II) in 'The Crown' season 4 with Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles, and Erin Doherty as Princess Anne along with others who play equally important characters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Olivia Colman’s character remains in focus in almost all episodes considering she’s running the show, two new women characters of Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana pull the balance from under the Queen, time and again.&nbsp;While the former does it by challenging the Queen with her vested powers, the latter manages by swaying Britain’s interest in her beauty and charm. Gillian Anderson plays the role of ‘Iron Lady’, the then British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher with Emma Corin as the doe-eyed Lady Diana.</p>

<p>‘The Crown’ season 4 also plays to the gallery by bringing the much-awaited love-hate relationship of Prince Charles and Princess Diana to the big screen. It brings into perspective the start of what could have been a fairy tale romance to a much-publicised love triangle that brought the British Royals and the entire extended family to the world’s attention and not in a good way. The show also sheds light on late Diana’s health issues -- bulimia and how sadness and loneliness took a toll on the world’s most beautiful woman. The episodes that have Charles and Diana almost have you on a rollercoaster of emotions -- love, hate, jealousy, angst, and more.&nbsp;</p>

Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ is back with another season as it takes the story of the British monarchy forward by a few years. Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ is back with another season as it takes the story of the British monarchy forward by a few years. Olivia Colman returns as the reigning monarch (Queen Elizabeth II) in 'The Crown' season 4 with Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles, and Erin Doherty as Princess Anne along with others who play equally important characters. While Olivia Colman’s character remains in focus in almost all episodes considering she’s running the show, two new women characters of Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana pull the balance from under the Queen, time and again. While the former does it by challenging the Queen with her vested powers, the latter manages by swaying Britain’s interest in her beauty and charm. Gillian Anderson plays the role of ‘Iron Lady’, the then British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher with Emma Corin as the doe-eyed Lady Diana. ‘The Crown’ season 4 also plays to the gallery by bringing the much-awaited love-hate relationship of Prince Charles and Princess Diana to the big screen. The episodes that have Charles and Diana almost have you on a rollercoaster of emotions -- love, hate, jealousy, angst, and more. 'The Crown' season 4 review: Show delivers its best as Diana, Thatcher take away the Queen's thunder

<p>A lot of fans of Princess Diana would remember her engagement photos with Prince Charles. The young couple had made the announcement in February 9181. It was the first time that Princess Diana was introduced formally to the press.<br />

Years later, the historic day has been recreated in Netflix series &nbsp;'The Crown'. The fourth season of the popular show is set to premiere on November 15 and the official Twitter handle on Tuesday teased fans with images of actors Josh O'Connor and Emma Corrin as Prince Charles and Diana Spencer recreating the former royal couple's engagement day.&nbsp;<br />

<p>Season 4 of the highly anticipated Netflix series 'The Crown' will not just be about the Queen but two other very prominent women of Britain - Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana. The teaser was dropped on Tuesday on social media and featured a spine-chilling soundtrack more suited to a dark psychological thriller that offers a deep sense that all is not well with The Windsors.<br />
<br />
As the teaser starts, the narrator says, "Here is the stuff of which fairy tales are made. A prince and princess on their wedding day. But fairy tales usually end at this point with the simple phrase, `They lived happily ever after.`"<br />
<br />
The Prince and Princess are Prince Charles (Josh O`Connor) and Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin). In the clip, the soon-to-be Princess of Wales is introduced for the first time. She has been shown as a lively young girl with a beaming smile and a somewhat un-royal wardrobe.</p>

<p><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_hJ5CwsphdQ" width="560"></iframe><br />
<br />
While the trailer offers no visual clues as to how the fairy tale ends for the two, the rather impressive tones leave no doubt that it will be a central storyline for the series.<br />
<br />
The trailer also introduces another new member in the show- Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher played by Gillian Anderson. The Iron Lady came to power in 1979 and was an antithesis to Diana`s more carefree party girl.<br />
<br />
The trailer also puts on display a few smiles, with Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman), Prince Philip (Tobias Menzies), and Princess Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter) all sporting some decidedly restrained expressions throughout, and not just in a funeral scene.<br />
<br />

Season 4 of the highly anticipated Netflix series 'The Crown' will not just be about the Queen but two other very prominent women of Britain - Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana. The teaser was dropped on Tuesday on social media and featured a spine-chilling soundtrack more suited to a dark psychological thriller that offers a deep sense that all is not well with The Windsors. As the teaser starts, the narrator says, "Here is the stuff of which fairy tales are made. A prince and princess on their wedding day. But fairy tales usually end at this point with the simple phrase, `They lived happily ever after.`" The Prince and Princess are Prince Charles (Josh O`Connor) and Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin). In the clip, the soon-to-be Princess of Wales is introduced for the first time. She has been shown as a lively young girl with a beaming smile and a somewhat un-royal wardrobe. While the trailer offers no visual clues as to how the fairy tale ends for the two, the rather impressive tones leave no doubt that it will be a central storyline for the series. The trailer also introduces another new member in the show- Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher played by Gillian Anderson. The Iron Lady came to power in 1979 and was an antithesis to Diana`s more carefree party girl. The trailer also puts on display a few smiles, with Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman), Prince Philip (Tobias Menzies), and Princess Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter) all sporting some decidedly restrained expressions throughout, and not just in a funeral scene. 'The Crown' Season 4 is set to premiere globally on Netflix on November 15.

<p>The world will once again get up close with the life story of late Princess Diana who has charmed generations. <p>Earlier, Kristen Stewart spoke of the role and said that she remains “viscerally affected” by images of Princess Diana’s funeral, which she remembers watching as a child.</p>

<p>She said, “The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice, and it’s so, so distinct and particular. I’m working on it now and already have my dialect coach. In terms of research, I’ve gotten through two and a half biographies, and I’m finishing all the material before I actually go make the movie. It’s one of the saddest stories to exist ever, and I don’t want to just play Diana — I want to know her implicitly. I haven’t been this excited about playing a part, by the way, in so long.”</p>

<p>In another interview, Kristen Stewart had said, “I think there is sort of an unbridled, open, and intimate exchange that she had with the public that was so striking for people that were used to a sort of different face to the royal family. That’s not something I grew up with. I always thought this person was stolen from us and I always had a curiosity about her. Every day that I unfold this story the more emotionally invested I get.”</p>

<p>‘Spencer’ will begin filming at the start of 2021.</p>

<p>Ever since George Floyd died in police custody in America in May 2020, there has been a lot of conversation around racism and the lack of representation in different various fields.<br />
<br />
On Wednesday, Prince Harry apologised for institutional racism during a speech he recorded for the Diana Awards. It was Princess Diana's birth anniversary - and the charity that has been set up in her honour awards individuals for their humanitarian work.<br />
<br />
This year, owing to the pandemic, the ceremony was virtual and Duke of Sussex's address was a pre-recorded video clip. In his speech, Harry said that "institutional racism' has no place in our societies, yet it is still endemic."<br />
<br />
"My wife said recently that our generation and the ones before us haven't done enough to right the wrongs of the past," he said.<br />
<br />
"I, too, am sorry. Sorry that we haven't got the world to the place that you deserve it to be."<br />
<br />
The speech came on what would have been the 59th birthday of Princess Diana, the prince's mother. She died in a Paris car crash in 1997 when Harry was 12.<br />
<br />
Harry paid tribute to young people being recognized at the ceremony for their work on race and injustice, saying he saw 'greatest hope' in them amid the division and anger in the world.<br />
<br />
In 2016. Harry accused the media of harassing Meghan, his then-girlfriend, and criticized 'racial undertones' in some coverage of her. Meghan's mother is Black and her father is white.<br />
<br />
She gave a speech last month to students at her old high school in Los Angeles following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.<br />
<br />
The couple now lives in Los Angeles with their son, Archie, following their exit from roles as senior working royals earlier this year.</p>

<p>The Diana Awards 2020 honoured several young humanitarians- from India, UK, and Pakistan- for their exemplanary work for the underprivileged.</p>

A Princess Diana musical is coming to Broadway

<p>Princess Diana's loved her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry dearly- a fact that is well known. And even though its been twenty-three years since her death, the Princess continues to be one of the most widely discussed royal ever.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Now, her confidante and butler of many years, Paul Burrell has released a snippet from a letter which the Diana wrote for Harry and William.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Burrell shared the snippet along with a picture of Princess Diana with both William and Harry. In the loving note, Princess Diana wrote, "I love my boys to death and hope that the seeds I’ve planted will grow and bring the strength, knowledge, and stability that is needed."<br />
<br />
The note was apparently written not long before Diana died in 1997.</p>

Princess Diana's loved her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry dearly- a fact that is well known. And even though its been twenty-three years since her death, the Princess continues to be one of the most widely discussed royal ever. Now, her confidante and butler of many years, Paul Burrell has released a snippet from a letter which the Diana wrote for Harry and William. Burrell shared the snippet along with a picture of Princess Diana with both William and Harry. In the loving note, Princess Diana wrote, "I love my boys to death and hope that the seeds I’ve planted will grow and bring the strength, knowledge, and stability that is needed." The note was apparently written not long before Diana died in 1997. 5 times members of the British royal family got into legal feuds with media

<p>On January 8, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/most-memorable-moments-of-prince-harry-and-meghan-274211">the Duke and Duchess of Sussex</a>, unveiled their controversial plan to walk away from royal roles.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the royal family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support her majesty the queen,'' they said in a joint statement.</p>

<p>"We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the commonwealth and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity," the statement added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apparently, the announcement on the Sussex Royal Instagram page blindsided the Queen and other family members who had no idea it was coming, it sent tabloids into overdrive. Meanwhile, the Queen summoned Senior Royals to an emergency summit to discuss the future of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Billed as <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/sandringham-summit-whos-who-at-the-royal-gathering-274052">the Sandringham summit</a>, the meeting took place at the Queen's estate in Norfolk and involved Queen Elizabeth II, Harry his father Prince Charles and his brother Prince William, with Meghan reportedly joining the discussions by phone from Canada.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Soon after, the queen released a statement, that said, "My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the Royal family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Monarchy in Crisis?&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>It looks like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have won the reluctant approval of the 93-year-old Queen. But what does their exit mean for the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/kate-middleton-and-prince-williams-first-2020-public-appearance-274618">British monarchy</a>? And what really went wrong? &nbsp;</p>

<p>Let’s look at this and the other scandals that have rocked the British royal family, the world's most famous monarchy, in the last few decades:<br />
<br />
<strong>The Sussexes 'step back'&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Prince Harry was known as the 'rebel prince' much before he met Meghan on a blind date in mid-2016, set up by a mutual friend. The relationship moved quickly and the couple immediately became endless fodder for the tabloids. In November 2016, Harry’s communications secretary issued a statement condemning the British press’s torment of his girlfriend. This was the start of their troubled relationship with the tabloids. A year later, in November 2017, they got engaged. In an interview, Harry said he tried to warn his future wife 'as much as possible'&nbsp;about the inevitable media scrutiny, but the couple was still 'totally surprised'&nbsp;by it.</p>

<p>Despite these early setbacks, they got married at Windsor Castle in May 2017. American-born, biracial, divorced, former actress Meghan Markle, who also happened to be an independent and outspoken woman, became the Duchess of Sussex. A year later, she gave birth to Archie, the first baby of part African descent in the family. The couple’s relationship and the birth of their son were heralded by many as immensely symbolic moments of modern Britain. An example of the monarchy embracing modernity, but it was not to be.</p>

<p>Throughout it all, the British tabloids kept criticising the Sussex with most of the ire being directed at Meghan. A top-selling British tabloid dubbed their announcement as 'Megxit', putting the blame squarely on Meghan's shoulders. This isn't surprising since she has been at the receiving end for negative coverage by the British press. For issues ranging from her family background to cradling her baby bump, and even eating avocados. One British Radio host was even fired after posting a tweet where he compared their offspring to a baby chimpanzee. It's safe to assume that her race had something to do with her becoming the media's new punching bag.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For his part, Prince Harry has been vocal about what he sees as sexist and racist coverage, even making a statement comparing the treatment of his wife to that of his late mother Princess Diana, who tragically died in a crash as her driver sped away to escape the paparazzi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There was trouble on other fronts as well, rumours of a rift between Pince Harry and his older brother Prince William started emerging in March 2019. Around this time, Prince Harry and Meghan moved out of Kensington Palace. 2.4 million pounds of public money, which is about Rs 24 crores, was spent on upgrading their new official residence- Frogmore cottage. Soon after, the couple announced that they intend to split from their combined charity with the Cambridge and start their own charity, Sussex Royal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Trouble was brewing in the Royal family and it started making headlines when they took part in an intimate documentary while on a tour to South Africa. They revealed the strain and pressure of living in the public eye. Meghan even said that her friends warned her not to marry Prince Harry because of the British tabloids and her husband declared that he would not be bullied into playing a game that killed his mother. In November, they announced that they will not be spending Christmas with other members of the Royal family. Opting for a six-week holiday in Canada instead where Meghan is currently residing. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Interestingly after their latest Instagram post, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gained 500,000 Instagram followers in just four days. They are now just 200,000 behind Prince William and Kate Middleton who have 10.8 million followers. In fact, when they joined Instagram last year on April 2, they made a Guinness World record for gaining 1 million fans within 6 hours<br />
&nbsp;<br />
So will Harry and Meghan keep their titles while stepping back from the royal life and moving overseas? Well, so far the Sussex has expressed no intentions of relinquishing their HRH (His Royal Highness or Her Royal Highness) titles.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now expected to split their time between the UK and Canada, a country that lies within the commonwealth. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has offered his support, saying most Canadians would welcome the couple making their home there. However, he also added that further talks are needed over the costs of security.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Which bring us to the question of money. Right now the two receive money from the sovereign grant, a fund set up by the UK government for the Royal family. Apart from this, between them, they are estimated to have a net worth of $30 million. An accumulation of Harry’s yearly allowance and inheritance from his mother Dian and Meghan’s TV earnings.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As British royals, the couple is barred from earning their own cash, but this will change. So we may soon see them build celebrity empires like the Obamas or even the Kardashians. But by distancing themselves from the crown, one way or the other, they are certainly charting a new course.<br />

<strong>Prince Andrew's sex scandal&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>The 'megxit bombshell' comes just months after the Duke of York, Prince Andrew was forced to step down from Royal duties, amid accusations of a sex scandal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Prince Andrew, the second son and third child of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip announced his decision after consulting both his mother and his brother&nbsp;Prince Charles, amid growing criticism following a television interview he gave about his friendship with the late convicted sex offender- Jeffrey Epstein who committed suicide in August last year while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Prince Andrew is accused of having sex with Epstein's alleged 'sex slave' Virginia Roberts when she was just 17. The Duke of York has denied these allegations. But the FBI is continuing to investigate the case to untangle his history with the shamed American financier and his human trafficking racket. &nbsp;</p>

<p>In a disastrous interview, Prince Andrew, eighth-in-line to the throne, defended his friendship with Epstein, leaving viewers across the world aghast. The outcry finally forced Buckingham Palace to distance itself from the disgraced Duke - many royal experts surmise that he will not return to public duties until he is fully cleared of any wrongdoing.</p>

<p>Interestingly, his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, affectionately known as Fergie, with whom he continues to share a home, has stood behind him through this controversy.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Sarah Ferguson's scandalous photo&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>The Duchess of York faced her own crisis in 1992 when she was frozen out of the Royal Family after compromising photographs emerged of her on holiday with John Bryan, her financial advisor.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Duke and Duchess of York tied the knot in 1986 - but just six years later their marriage ended in a scandal - they announced their separation in March 1992, but were still married when these photographs were published. They would go on to divorce in 1996.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The royal family didn’t want anything to do with Ferguson after the incident, but she was recently accepted into the Royal fold again and even attended the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Princess Diana’s Untimely Death<br />
&nbsp;</strong><br />
Half-past midnight, a black Mercedes crashed into a concrete pillar outside the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris. And the world lost Princess Diana - the people's Princess.</p>

<p>Diana’s boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, and their driver Henri Paul also died in the crash. Only one passenger survived - Trevor Rees-Jones - Fayed’s bodyguard.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the wake of the crash, given Princess Diana's complicated relationship with Prince Charles and the Queen herself, all kinds of conspiracy theories began to emerge. But in the 2008 inquest of Diana's death, it was concluded that paul’s drunk driving and speeding were to blame for the accident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, many questions remain unanswered - why were they not wearing seatbelts? Why didn't Princess Diana have her own bodyguards? And could Diana have been saved?&nbsp;</p>

<p>At her funeral in September 1997, her brother Charles Spencer blamed the paparazzi, describing his sister as “The most hunted person of the modern age".</p>

<p>And hunted she was on the night of the fateful crash, the couple was trying to evade the press.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Diana and Dodi Fayed died barely six weeks after beginning a romance - rumours of Diana's impending engagement and even a pregnancy meant that the couple was relentlessly pursued.</p>

<p>The Egyptian millionaire’s father, Mohamed al-Fayed, believed that Royal Family and British Secret Services were plotting against the marriage because they disapproved of the match.</p>

<p>Diana's activism and glamour made her an international icon, but the Princess of Wales faced difficulties within the royal family and in the public eye from the start.</p>

<p>Prince Charles married lady Diana spencer in 1981, and they welcomed Prince William in 1982 and Prince Harry in 1984, but their relationship was visibly strained. They separated in 1992, before formally divorcing in 1996.</p>

<p>Flouting tradition, in 1995, she gave an explosive interview to journalist Martin Bashir where she revealed that “There were three people in this marriage”, alluding to her husband’s affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, adding it was “a bit crowded.” She also admitted to an adulterous affair with her riding instructor, James Hewitt.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A few weeks later, the Queen herself urged her son and daughter-in-law to divorce, and the following year, they made it official. Sadly, Princess Diana was killed just a year later. However, with these acts of defiance, she set a new precedent for the next generation of royals.</p>

<p><strong>Prince Charles and Camilla’s affair&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>On the other hand, Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, went on to wed Camilla in 2005, 34 years after their first meeting, and the two are still together.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Interestingly, a year before Diana's interview, he too publicly admitting to having an affair. His confession sent ripples through the Royal Family.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the time, the public largely blamed Prince Charles’ relationship with Camilla for the breakdown of his marriage to Diana - it became the scandal of the decade.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Princess Margaret, the original rebel &nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Queen Elizabeth II has been the central figure of Britain's monarchy for more than six decades. Head of state of the United Kingdom and 15 commonwealth nations, she married Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947. They have four children, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The queen only had one sibling – Princess Margaret, the late countess of Snowdon. The two sisters could not have been more different. While the British monarch is famously staid and consistent, her younger sister was known as a rebellious royal, ‘a&nbsp;wild child'.</p>

<p>She fell in love with group captain Peter Townsend, a royal air force officer and the equerry to her father King George.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from being a commoner, peter was also a divorcee, and divorcees weren't allowed to remarry in the church of England, which Princess Margaret's sister was the head of.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After facing much opposition, the Princess cut off all ties with Townsend and went on to marry photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones in 1960 - the first royal marriage to be broadcast on television. &nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the Royal marriage soon started to crumble and after years of infidelity by both partners, the couple separated. It was the first royal divorce since King Henry VIII's in 1540. &nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>King Edward VIII Abdicates&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>In December 1936, the Queen's uncle - King Edward VIII abdicated the British throne to marry his lover Wallis Simpson - an American socialite who was divorced from her first husband and was pursuing the divorce of her second. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Being the British Monarch, King Edward VIII was also the head of the Church of England and was forbidden to marry a divorcee. and so he abdicated the throne after ruling for less than a year. Thereafter, he took the title Duke of Windsor and embarked on a life with his new wife in Paris.</p>

<p>And now, more than eight decades later, Prince Harry is set to follow on his footsteps. The circumstances surrounding Prince Harry and King Edward VIII’s royal status decisions are very different. Harry is not the king, but he is set to become a ‘part-time’ royal, having made a decision to quit or reject the royal life and defying the British monarchy.&nbsp;</p>

On January 8, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, unveiled their controversial plan to walk away from royal roles. “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the royal family and work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support her majesty the queen,'' they said in a joint statement.

"We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the commonwealth and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity," the statement added. Apparently, the announcement on the Sussex Royal Instagram page blindsided the Queen and other family members who had no idea it was coming, it sent tabloids into overdrive. Meanwhile, the Queen summoned Senior Royals to an emergency summit to discuss the future of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Billed as the Sandringham summit, the meeting took place at the Queen's estate in Norfolk and involved Queen Elizabeth II, Harry his father Prince Charles and his brother Prince William, with Meghan reportedly joining the discussions by phone from Canada. Soon after, the queen released a statement, that said, "My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the Royal family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family. Monarchy in Crisis? It looks like Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have won the reluctant approval of the 93-year-old Queen. But what does their exit mean for the British monarchy? And what really went wrong? Let’s look at this and the other scandals that have rocked the British royal family, the world's most famous monarchy, in the last few decades: The Sussexes 'step back' Prince Harry was known as the 'rebel prince' much before he met Meghan on a blind date in mid-2016, set up by a mutual friend. In an interview, Harry said he tried to warn his future wife 'as much as possible' about the inevitable media scrutiny, but the couple was still 'totally surprised' by it. Despite these early setbacks, they got married at Windsor Castle in May 2017. An example of the monarchy embracing modernity, but it was not to be. Throughout it all, the British tabloids kept criticising the Sussex with most of the ire being directed at Meghan. It's safe to assume that her race had something to do with her becoming the media's new punching bag. For his part, Prince Harry has been vocal about what he sees as sexist and racist coverage, even making a statement comparing the treatment of his wife to that of his late mother Princess Diana, who tragically died in a crash as her driver sped away to escape the paparazzi. There was trouble on other fronts as well, rumours of a rift between Pince Harry and his older brother Prince William started emerging in March 2019. Around this time, Prince Harry and Meghan moved out of Kensington Palace. 2.4 million pounds of public money, which is about Rs 24 crores, was spent on upgrading their new official residence- Frogmore cottage. Soon after, the couple announced that they intend to split from their combined charity with the Cambridge and start their own charity, Sussex Royal. Trouble was brewing in the Royal family and it started making headlines when they took part in an intimate documentary while on a tour to South Africa. Interestingly after their latest Instagram post, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gained 500,000 Instagram followers in just four days. They are now just 200,000 behind Prince William and Kate Middleton who have 10.8 million followers. In fact, when they joined Instagram last year on April 2, they made a Guinness World record for gaining 1 million fans within 6 hours So will Harry and Meghan keep their titles while stepping back from the royal life and moving overseas? Well, so far the Sussex has expressed no intentions of relinquishing their HRH (His Royal Highness or Her Royal Highness) titles. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are now expected to split their time between the UK and Canada, a country that lies within the commonwealth. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has offered his support, saying most Canadians would welcome the couple making their home there. However, he also added that further talks are needed over the costs of security. Which bring us to the question of money. Right now the two receive money from the sovereign grant, a fund set up by the UK government for the Royal family. Apart from this, between them, they are estimated to have a net worth of $30 million. An accumulation of Harry’s yearly allowance and inheritance from his mother Dian and Meghan’s TV earnings. As British royals, the couple is barred from earning their own cash, but this will change. So we may soon see them build celebrity empires like the Obamas or even the Kardashians. But by distancing themselves from the crown, one way or the other, they are certainly charting a new course. WATCH: Royal mess continues × Prince Andrew's sex scandal The 'megxit bombshell' comes just months after the Duke of York, Prince Andrew was forced to step down from Royal duties, amid accusations of a sex scandal. Prince Andrew, the second son and third child of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip announced his decision after consulting both his mother and his brother Prince Charles, amid growing criticism following a television interview he gave about his friendship with the late convicted sex offender- Jeffrey Epstein who committed suicide in August last year while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. Prince Andrew is accused of having sex with Epstein's alleged 'sex slave' Virginia Roberts when she was just 17. The Duke of York has denied these allegations. But the FBI is continuing to investigate the case to untangle his history with the shamed American financier and his human trafficking racket. In a disastrous interview, Prince Andrew, eighth-in-line to the throne, defended his friendship with Epstein, leaving viewers across the world aghast. The outcry finally forced Buckingham Palace to distance itself from the disgraced Duke - many royal experts surmise that he will not return to public duties until he is fully cleared of any wrongdoing. Interestingly, his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, affectionately known as Fergie, with whom he continues to share a home, has stood behind him through this controversy. Sarah Ferguson's scandalous photo The Duchess of York faced her own crisis in 1992 when she was frozen out of the Royal Family after compromising photographs emerged of her on holiday with John Bryan, her financial advisor. The Duke and Duchess of York tied the knot in 1986 - but just six years later their marriage ended in a scandal - they announced their separation in March 1992, but were still married when these photographs were published. They would go on to divorce in 1996. The royal family didn’t want anything to do with Ferguson after the incident, but she was recently accepted into the Royal fold again and even attended the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Princess Diana’s Untimely Death Half-past midnight, a black Mercedes crashed into a concrete pillar outside the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris. And the world lost Princess Diana - the people's Princess. Diana’s boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, and their driver Henri Paul also died in the crash. Only one passenger survived - Trevor Rees-Jones - Fayed’s bodyguard. In the wake of the crash, given Princess Diana's complicated relationship with Prince Charles and the Queen herself, all kinds of conspiracy theories began to emerge. But in the 2008 inquest of Diana's death, it was concluded that paul’s drunk driving and speeding were to blame for the accident. However, many questions remain unanswered - why were they not wearing seatbelts? Why didn't Princess Diana have her own bodyguards? And could Diana have been saved? At her funeral in September 1997, her brother Charles Spencer blamed the paparazzi, describing his sister as “The most hunted person of the modern age". And hunted she was on the night of the fateful crash, the couple was trying to evade the press. Iconic dress Princess Diana wore as she danced with John Travolta is now up for auction

<p>They are the defining images of newsmakers down the decades from Princess Diana to Brigitte Bardot to Pope John Paul II.</p>

<p>And now some 130 of the most iconic pictures taken by the French magazine Paris Match are to be auctioned on November 25 in Paris for prices of between 1,500-4,000 euros ($1,660-4,400).</p>

<p>The auction of the celebrated covers and double-spreads will mark the 70th anniversary of a publication whose trend-setting influence has always gone well beyond France.</p>

<p>The pictures include powerful images from nature and conflict zones and also of politicians ranging from the deposed shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, to Charles de Gaulle and late French president Jacques Chirac.</p>

<p>But among the most unforgettable are those of personalities who have shaped the zeitgeist of the last decades.</p>

<p>Perhaps the most famous is the image of Britain's Princess Diana, sitting alone on the diving board of a luxury yacht as a bird flies by, just a week before her death in a Paris road accident in 1997.</p>

<p>"Yes, it is a paparazzi photo, but it's one that has gone down in history. This photo is Diana, it's Lady Di and she only had eight days to live," said Marc Brincourt, former photo editor-in-chief at Paris Match and curator of the exhibition at the Cornette de Saint Cyr auction house in Paris.</p>

<p>"She is alone, on the diving board. And then the seagull going by," he added.</p>

<p>Another image, by photographer Jack Garofalo from 1974, celebrates the 40th birthday of actress Brigitte Bardot, her chest exposed and flowers in her hair.</p>

<p>"In order to pose like that in front of Jack Garofalo, you need to have trust," said Brincourt.</p>

<p>"There is a trust between the star and the photographer. Why? Because in that era, the stars were friends with the photographers and the Paris Match reporters," he added.&nbsp;</p>

"Yes, it is a paparazzi photo, but it's one that has gone down in history. This photo is Diana, it's Lady Di and she only had eight days to live," said Marc Brincourt, former photo editor-in-chief at Paris Match and curator of the exhibition at the Cornette de Saint Cyr auction house in Paris. "She is alone, on the diving board. And then the seagull going by," he added. Another image, by photographer Jack Garofalo from 1974, celebrates the 40th birthday of actress Brigitte Bardot, her chest exposed and flowers in her hair. "In order to pose like that in front of Jack Garofalo, you need to have trust," said Brincourt. "There is a trust between the star and the photographer. Why? Because in that era, the stars were friends with the photographers and the Paris Match reporters," he added.

"It has been emotional retracing my mother's steps along this street 22 years on, and to see the transformation that has taken place, from an unsafe and desolate place into a vibrant community of local businesses and colleges," Harry said in a speech at the site.<br />

<p>What will Britain's Prince Harry and his wife Meghan name their child?</p>

<p>With the former actress in the last stage of her pregnancy, punters are having a flutter on the baby's gender, weight, date and birthplace. One of the most popular wagers is for the name. For a boy, Arthur is leading the pack at bookmakers William Hill but if it's a girl, many expect the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could pay tribute to Harry's late mother.</p>

<p>"Diana (is) 10/1 red hot favourite, no great surprises there," William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said. "But the recent move is for Victoria also 10/1, (people) really like it."</p>

<p>Queen Elizabeth's grandson and his American wife, who married last May, announced in October they were expecting their first child this spring.</p>

<p>In January, Meghan told well-wishers she was six months pregnant, adding the couple did not know the baby's gender.</p>

<p>William Hill odds were 8/11 for a girl and evens for a boy earlier this week. At Betfair, the odds have shortened on a girl, and the favourite name is Diana at 5/1, Betfair Media Relations Manager Katie Baylis said.</p>

<p>Baylis said another possibility was Alice, a name that was among those speculated when Prince William and his wife Kate were expecting their third child last year. Kate eventually gave birth to a boy, Prince Louis.</p>

<p>"Punters feel that there will at some point be an Alice in the royal family and so we've seen plenty of interest in that name as well," she said.</p>

<p>The mother of Harry's grandfather Prince Philip was called Alice.</p>

<p>Betfair has odds of 8/1 for Arthur. Alice, Victoria, Grace, James and Edward each stand at 14/1. Diana and Arthur are also among favourites at other bookmakers.</p>

<p>Other wagers have included who will be godparents to the baby, the date and time of birth, and if Meghan will have twins.</p>

<p>"Comparative to (Prince William and Kate) the Harry betting is significantly more at this stage, so 30 odd per cent (more) ... in real terms that's huge," Adams said.</p>

<p>Outside Buckingham Palace, sightseers shared their name preferences.</p>

<p>"I would put money on a girl and Victoria (as a name) because we could call her Tori," tourist Sarah Owens said.</p>

<p>Fellow sightseer Danni Ma picked Mary: "(It) sounds very old fashioned but it is Meghan and Harry (combined)."</p>
