<p>It was sold as part of the four-day "Hollywood Legends" sale by Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), which featured a range of memorabilia.</p>

<p>The 19-year-old sported the knit garment -- which includes one black sheep amid dozens of otherwise white wooly creatures -- at a June 1981 polo match during her whirlwind days as a shy royal-in-the-making.</p>

<p>The playfully patterned "Black Sheep" sweater became one of the most emblematic articles of clothing worn by Diana, which in hindsight seems to foretell her troubled journey as a member of the British royal family.</p>

<p>The garment nabbed $1.1 million -- which includes fees and commission -- after a fierce battle by internet bidders.</p>

<p>The total was over ten times more than Sotheby's initial estimate of between $50,000 to $80,000.</p>

<p>Due to an avalanche of bids, the auction house extended the sale by several minutes, with the price leaping astronomically from $190,000 to $1.1 million in the final 15 minutes.</p>

<p>According to Sotheby's, it is the highest price ever paid at auction for a garment belonging to Princess Diana -- eclipsing her Infanta-style ball gown sold in January for $604,800 -- as well as the most valuable sweater ever sold at auction.</p>

<p>The sweater was created by then-little-known designers Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne and their knitting company Warm and Wonderful, which was subsequently catapulted to fame.</p>

<p>Weeks after Diana was photographed in the top, the designers received a letter explaining that one of the sweater's sleeves had suffered damage, and asking if it could be repaired or replaced.</p>

<p>The designers sent her a new one and had assumed the original was repaired and sent to a customer, but in March 2023 Osborne found the sweater in a small box in her attic.</p>

<p>In addition to the sweater, the auction included the letter requesting repair, as well as a thank you note from Diana's private secretary, Oliver Everett.</p>

<p>Diana was seen wearing the replacement at a June 1983 polo match.</p>

<p>The billionaire businessman breathed his last 26 years after the fatal car crash in Paris took the lives of his eldest son Dodi Fayed and Princess of Wales Diana on 31 August 1997.</p>

<p>"Mrs Mohamed Al-Fayed, her children and grandchildren wish to confirm that her beloved husband, their father and their grandfather, Mohamed, has passed away peacefully of old age on Wednesday, August 30, 2023," said his family in a statement which was released by the football club Fulham FC, which he once owned.</p>

<p>"He enjoyed a long and fulfilled retirement surrounded by his loved ones. The family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time,” the statement further read.</p>

<p>"On behalf of everyone at Fulham Football Club, I send my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mohamed Al Fayed upon the news of his passing at age 94," stated Shahid Khan, who succeeded al-Fayed as owner of the London soccer club.</p>

<p>Al Fayed was born to a schoolteacher in Alexandria. He had started his own shipping business in his homeland before he took the position of adviser to one of the world’s richest men, the Sultan of Brunei, in 1966.</p>

<p>He came to the United Kingdom in the 1970s and became a part of the board of the mining conglomerate Lonrho in 1975. However, he left the board nine months later. In 1979 Al Fayed, along with his brother Ali, purchased the Paris Ritz Hotel.</p>

<p>The billionaire, in 1997, bought Fulham football club in west London for £6.25 million ($7.87 million) and invited famous singer Michael Jackson to watch a game together at Craven Cottage.</p>

<p>In 1999, Al Fayed gave his nod to club’s manager Kevin Keegan to take the position of team manager of the England national team. The club was sold by Al Fayed to billionaire businessman Shahid Khan in 2013.</p>

"Marijuana is different (to cocaine). That actually did really help me," Harry said before detailing his experiences with hallucinogens. "It was the cleaning of the windscreen, the removal of life’s filters — these layers of filters — it removed it all for me and brought me a sense of relaxation, relief, comfort, a lightness that I managed to hold back for a period of time."&nbsp;<br />

Harry also added that he started doing it initially for recreation and soon realised how good it was for him. "I would say it is one of the fundamental parts of my life that changed me and helped me deal with the traumas and the pains of the past. They’re unlocking so much of what we’ve suppressed," Harry said.<br />

Therapy using psychedelic drugs, including the naturally occurring psilocybin compound found in mushrooms, is growing in popularity in several countries in the world.&nbsp;<br />

"I certainly don’t see myself as a victim," he said. Now, in 2023, the ownership of these poignant documents is a responsibility that the Kassems do not wish to pass on to their children or grandchildren."</p>

<p>"They have decided to sell the letters and use proceeds of the sale to support some of the charities that were close to Susie and Diana's hearts," the statement added.</p>

<p>Some might argue about the moral implications of the auction.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per People Magazine, Lay's Auctioneers have released a photo of one of the letters dated February 17, 1996. She says in the letter, "Darling Susie Thank you for all the lovely things you said to me on the telephone tonight... You have no idea the joy and trust you and Tarek have introduced into my life and I count myself extremely fortunate both Tarek and you for believing in me..."</p>

Considering the hype around the show, I'd hoped that the couple would perhaps go all out in narrating their story on why they decided to step away from the family (they kept calling it the institution throughout the show). But the first three episodes (each an hour long) did not offer anything new. The couple did not mention anything that we already didn't know about the British royal family or even the paparazzi culture in the UK.</p>

<p>At one point in the first episode, Meghan Markle says, “When the stakes were this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?” And what did we get to know from them? That they had a whirlwind romance that spanned over two continents, that they had first checked each other out on Instagram, and that they loved documenting their meets, dates, walks, and family time like most millennial couples do in the age of social media. Wow, such a big revelation!</p>

<p>The couple spoke in vague pronouns while mentioning the royal family and the media blurring the lines on who they were really putting the blame on. That British media and the royal family have had a love-hate relationship over decades is a known fact. A man who was a product of a broken marriage, but who was shielded by wealth, comfort, and royalty - Harry did take a brave step to move to the US, away from the shadows of his prominent family, attempting to create his own identity. But in the past two years, the only time Harry and Meghan have made headlines is when they have dragged or blamed the British royal family. They are feeding off their past glory, isn't it?</p>

<p>The couple has also had a rather public life post-Megxit. A deal with Netflix, a podcast, books and memoirs, and a life that cannot really be called private, Harry and Meghan are still very much part of the public discourse. So much for wanting privacy.</p>

They may have redeemed themselves over the years with carefully curated images in the public eye but the fact of the matter is that the family still hasn't ever openly addressed the horrific past or the grievous mistakes the ancestors had made in so many of the countries. While the episodes do touch upon the family's colonising history, Brexit which made Britain even more secluded, and racial injustice, it never really had Harry talk about the stoic silence that the family maintained all throughout.</p>

<p>The hype around the docuseries also speaks a lot about the audience and the media which has for decades hyped up an establishment that needs to be completely redundant in modern times. Monarchy is dead and so should the interest in royal families. Maybe it is time to introspect- why can't we shrug off our own colonial past and ignore the royal family? I am all for cheering Harry and Meghan if they bring social change to society, but why is it needed to get into details of a family and its internal problems?&nbsp;<br />
