A superb individual effort by midfielder Jacob Ramsey and a late Ollie Watkins goal gave Aston Villa a 2-0 win at bottom team Norwich City on Tuesday, as home manager Dean Smith suffered defeat against his former club.

Smith took over at Norwich after parting company with Villa last month and the visitors, now managed by former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard, missed several chances to win by a bigger margin.

City's seventh successive league victory put pressure on second placed Liverpool and third placed Chelsea, who face Newcastle and Everton respectively on Thursday.

The champions' biggest win this season equalled Liverpool's 1982 top-flight record of 33 victories in a calendar year.

"We're proud of the way we're playing. When you get these results it is because individually they are brilliant," Guardiola said.

"Kevin, in these type of games when it is open up and down, is devastating as he can do what he wants. He's so important for us."

It was the joint biggest league defeat in Leeds' history and shell-shocked boss Marcelo Bielsa said: "We've never had a performance like this. There is no justification. I have to take responsibility."

City took the lead in the eighth minute when Foden's shot was deflected in via Stuart Dallas's miscued attempt to clear off the line.

It was City's 500th Premier League goal in 207 matches under Guardiola, setting a new record that surpassed the previous fastest mark by Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

Grealish had managed just two goals for City since his British record £100 million ($132 million) transfer from Aston Villa.

The Premier League announced on Monday there had been 42 positive Covid cases among top-flight players and staff last week -- the most recorded in any seven-day period since testing began during the 2019-20 season.

Manchester United's match at Brentford on Tuesday and Tottenham's trip to Brighton last Sunday were both postponed due to virus outbreaks.

United and Tottenham had several unnamed players test positive, while Brighton, Leicester, Norwich and Aston Villa were also hit by the virus over the last week.

Now all top-flight players and staff will have to take a lateral flow test every time they enter their club's training ground as part of the protocols.

Twice-weekly PCR testing will also be introduced after a meeting of the 20 clubs on Tuesday.

The increased testing sits alongside the other recently introduced emergency measures, including face coverings, limiting time in the treatment room and observing social distancing.

Premier League: Manchester City thrashes Leeds 7-0 for seventh straight win- WATCH

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been dropped as the team's captain following a disciplinary breach last week, the Premier League club said on Tuesday. The Gabon international will also be not considered for selection for Wednesday`s league game at home to West Ham United, the club added.

"We expect all our players, particularly our captain, to work to the rules and standards we have all set and agreed," Arsenal said in a statement. "We are fully focused on tomorrow`s match." Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta dropped Aubameyang from the squad that beat Southampton 3-0 at the weekend due to a disciplinary breach, but the Spanish boss had declined to reveal exactly what the striker had done.

The Athletic reported that Aubameyang was dropped after returning late from a trip abroad. Alexandre Lacazette led the team against Southampton in Aubameyang`s absence. Aubameyang, who signed a new three-year contract with the north London club last year, has struggled this season, scoring only four Premier League goals -- the last of which was in October against Aston Villa. The 32-year-old had been dropped before for disciplinary reasons, with Arteta excluding the striker from their 2-1 derby win over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur last season.
Arsenal are sixth in the league standings on 26 points after 16 matches, two points outside the top four.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola urged his players to get their COVID-19 vaccine booster shots and advised them to be careful amid a surge in cases in the United Kingdom.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday that at least one person has died in the UK after contracting the Omicron coronavirus variant.

The UK Health Security Agency said Omicron - first detected in South Africa, Botswana and Hong Kong in late November - can overcome the immunity of those who have had two shots of vaccines such as AstraZeneca or Pfizer-BioNTech.

"Absolutely, the doctors suggest they have to do it," Guardiola told reporters on Monday when asked about players getting the booster shots.

Premier League: Brentford's boss Thomas Frank expects game to be held despite Man Utd COVID-19 scare

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea said it was difficult to watch Victor Lindelof struggle to breathe in Saturday's 1-0 Premier League win against Norwich City as it reminded him of Christian Eriksen and Sergio Aguero's on-pitch health issues.

Defender Lindelof was substituted as a precaution shortly before Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning penalty at Carrow Road, with United later saying that the signs were positive after the Sweden captain was checked by medical staff.

De Gea said the incident brought back memories of Denmark midfielder Eriksen suffering cardiac arrest on the pitch at the European Championship in June and Argentine Sergio Aguero feeling chest pain while playing for Barcelona in October.

"As soon as it was like difficult breathing, feeling strange the game doesn`t matter. First of all is life," De Gea told Sky Sports. "We saw some players who are feeling a bit, I don't know what was going on, but Victor was feeling his breathing.

"We saw already Eriksen, Aguero... so it`s sometimes a bit difficult to see your player acting like this, it was better to change. I hope he's completely fine."

"I suppose he had a collision with another player and couldn`t breathe. He had problems to breathe and his heart rate was higher than normal so we had to replace him," Rangnick said.

David de Gea says Manchester United teammate Victor Lindelof's breathing issue has left him worried

Cristiano Ronaldo converted a 75th-minute penalty to give Manchester United a barely deserved 1-0 win at Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday after the visitors struggled to create chances at Carrow Road.

The result lifted United to fifth place in the standings on 27 points from 16 games, behind fourth-placed West Ham United on goal difference, while Norwich stayed bottom on 10 points.

United's interim boss Ralf Rangnick was pleased with the outcome and a solid defensive performance but conceded that they needed to improve in every department.

"The second half I was not at all happy with the amount of corners that we gave away, but we got the three points.

Premier League: Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty gives Manchester United 1-0 win at Norwich City

Liverpool ensured there was no happy return to Anfield for Steven Gerrard as Mohamed Salah's second-half penalty earned a 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

Gerrard said he would gladly sacrifice some of his legendary status among the Liverpool support for a result on his first trip to Anfield as part of the visiting team.

However, Villa barely laid a glove on the Jurgen Klopp's men, who should have been far more convincing winners as they moved back to within a point of Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Gerrard was welcomed with gentle applause as he emerged from the tunnel, but there was no great fanfare for the man who scored 186 goals in 710 games as a Liverpool player.

Even a brief chant of his name from the Kop was drowned out by cries of "Liverpool" as the crowd focused their attention on maintaining pace with City at the top of the table.

The Reds should have been well in front by half-time after dominating a frustrating 45 minutes.

Salah has now scored 21 goals in 22 games this season, but showed remarkable restraint to resist a shot at goal from Andy Robertson's cut-back to allow Trent Alexander-Arnold to blast an effort that was headed for the top corner until it deflected off Matt Targett and behind for a corner.

Robertson was the major threat for Klopp's men as he exploited the space he was afforded down the left.

The Scotland captain's deflected header nearly wrong-footed Emiliano Martinez before he had two strong appeals for penalties waved away for challenges by Marvelous Nakamba, who had already been booked.

Klopp grew increasingly agitated at the officiating of referee Stuart Attwell as Liverpool failed to make their dominance show on the scoreboard.

Villa had won three of Gerrard's first four games in charge, but could not keep the ball for long enough to amount any sort of attacking threat themselves.

A slip by Alisson Becker created the visitors' best chance of the first half, but Ashley Young failed to turn the ball goalwards beyond the imposing figure of Joel Matip.

Martinez got down sharply to his left to deny Salah just before the break with the first of a string of fine saves by the Argentine number one.

Virgil van Dijk was next to be denied by the former Arsenal 'keeper as Liverpool camped Villa inside their own half for the first 20 minutes of the second half.

Salah bent another effort narrowly over moments later, but he finally made the difference for the only goal of the game on 67 minutes.

Tyrone Mings was roped into a clumsy challenge on Salah and at the third time of asking, Liverpool got their spot-kick.

Martinez has earned a reputation as a penalty specialist, but Salah's strike was too precise for the Villa stopper despite guessing the right way.

Going behind suddenly sparked Villa into life as Gerrard introduced Danny Ings and Emiliano Buendia to offer more of an attacking threat.

And they too had a big appeal for a penalty turned down late on when Alisson's attempted clearance rebounded off Matip towards his own goal and the Brazilian goalkeeper escaped unpunished from a collision with Ings.

Premier League: Mohamed Salah's penalty helps Liverpool beat Aston Villa 1-0 to remain 2nd

Jorginho held his nerve to score a stoppage-time penalty as Chelsea snatched a dramatic 3-2 win against Leeds on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel's side bounced back from their two-game winless run but not before surviving a major scare at Stamford Bridge.

Leeds went ahead through Raphinha's first half penalty and Chelsea drew level thanks to Mason Mount's strike.

Jorginho, playing through the pain of a recurring back problem, netted the first of his two penalties after the interval, only for Leeds teenager Joe Gelhardt to equalise with seven minutes left.

Deep into stoppage-time, Italy midfielder Jorginho struck again from the spot after Mateusz Klich's challenge on Antonio Rudiger.

It was a vital victory for Chelsea after their top-flight defeat at West Ham and midweek draw against Zenit Saint-Petersburg in the Champions League.

With leaders Manchester City and second placed Liverpool both winning on Saturday, Chelsea remain in third place, two points adrift of first place.

Having won only three of their previous seven games in all competitions, Tuchel will be pleased with the way Chelsea ground out a hard-fought success after surrendering pole position last weekend.

But once again, there were concerns for the Blues boss as Chelsea laboured for long periods and conceded twice, taking the amount of goals shipped by their previously rock-solid defence to eight in three games.

Tuchel had demanded his players stopped sitting on leads following their failure to hold onto the advantage against West Ham and Zenit, but they did not heed his warning.

With N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Trevoh Chalobah all sidelined, Tuchel was fortunate that Jorginho was willing to play through the pain barrier.

The Blues were behind in the 28th minute when Marcos Alonso upended Daniel James and Raphinha made no mistake with his penalty.

They equalised three minutes before half-time when Alonso robbed Stuart Dallas, who had failed to control Illan Meslier's pass, before sending a low ball to the near post.

Mount peeled off the defensive cover and swept into the net to level the clash, with the out-of-sync hosts mightily relieved to be on terms at the interval.

Chelsea were more measured after the break, eventually taking the lead with a 58th minute penalty.

Raphinha scythed through Rudiger and the spot-kick was duly awarded after a VAR review, with Jorginho slotting into the top corner.

Just when Chelsea thought they could celebrate, substitute Gelhardt fired his maiden Leeds goal with his first touch in the 83rd minute.

But Tuchel's team refused to roll over and Jorginho finally secured the victory in the final seconds.

Jorginho's brace helps Chelsea pull off thrilling win against Leeds United in Premier League

Raheem Sterling scored his 100th Premier League goal as the Manchester City forward's penalty fired the leaders to a 1-0 win against 10-man Wolves on Saturday.

Sterling netted from the spot in the second half at the Etihad Stadium to clinch City's sixth successive league victory.

City's cause was aided by a needless first half red card for Wolves striker Raul Jimenez, who was dismissed for failing to retreat the required 10 yards before a free-kick he had been booked for conceding seconds earlier.

Sterling's landmark goal ensured City capitalised on Jimenez's blunder as they survived an average display to get back on track after the midweek Champions League defeat at Leipzig.

After struggling to get into Guardiola's starting line-up at times this season amid talk of a potential transfer, Sterling is finally showing signs of recapturing the scintillating form that made him such a dangerous force.

Guardiola made eight changes from the Leipzig game, with Phil Foden, troubled by an ankle problem, and Kevin De Bruyne, recovered from the coronavirus, named as substitutes.

Bernardo Silva had scored six goals in his previous eight league appearances and the City playmaker was inches away from adding to that total when he bent a curler just over the bar in the opening minutes.

Premier League: Raheem Sterling scores 100th Premier League goal as Manchester City beat Wolves

Jorginho will "play through pain" when Chelsea face Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday, with fellow midfielders N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic still unavailable, manager Thomas Tuchel said.

Kante has missed games due to COVID-19 and a groin problem this season and has not played since injuring his knee in a 4-0 win over Juventus in the Champions League in November, while Kovacic is isolating after testing positive for the virus.

Jorginho missed the 3-3 Champions League draw against Zenit St Petersburg on Wednesday due to a niggling back problem but has declared himself fit for the clash against 15th-placed Leeds.

"He did the last two training sessions and I think he will do what he did the last games, play through pain and do what's needed to be on the pitch," Tuchel told reporters on Friday.

Trevoh Chalobah has also been sidelined with injury, forcing Tuchel to play right back Reece James alongside Ross Barkley in the middle of the pitch, but the German manager said Kante was closing in on a return.

"We're always worried when we have to live and play without N'Golo because he's a unique and exceptional player all over the world. This is my personal opinion. You can't find a second N'Golo," Tuchel said.

Premier League: Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola wins manager of the month for 10th time

Everton eased some of the pressure on manager Rafa Benitez as they ground out a comeback 2-1 home win over Arsenal in the Premier League on Monday, with Demarai Gray netting a stunning stoppage-time winner after setting up the equaliser.

Brazilian forward Richarlison, who had two goals scrapped for marginal offsides after VAR checks, had levelled in the 79th minute after Gray hit the crossbar, cancelling out Martin Odegaard`s first-half opener for the visitors.

The outcome left Arsenal seventh on 23 points from 15 games, four points outside the top four, while Everton, who announced on Sunday that director of football Marcel Brands https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/struggling-everton-part-ways-with-director-football-brands-2021-12-06 had left his position, climbed to 12th on 18 points.

Everton captain Seamus Coleman praised the home fans who lifted the Toffees in the face of adversity after they fell behind, having also singled out Gray`s fine performance.

"We knew whatever goes on behind the scenes, the fans always come here to support us," Coleman told Sky Sports. "They got behind us from minute one to minute 90 and got us over the line.

"I tell him (Gray) every day. Sometimes these players don`t realise how good they can be. He has bundles of ability. He needs to work hard every day as that is what the top players do. He has done that this week."

Everton dominated the first half and created several half-chances before Richarlison headed in a 44th-minute free kick from Andros Townsend, only for his effort to be chalked off.

Norwegian Odegaard then scored on the stroke of halftime from Arsenal`s first purposeful move, steering the ball superbly past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford as he got on the end of Kieran Tierney`s cross from the left.

Richarlison thought he had equalised in the 57th minute when he drove the ball inside the near post from close range, but Everton were again denied by VAR leaving the Brazilian shaking his head in disbelief.

But it was third time lucky for Richarlison as he beat Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale with a looping header from a rebound after Gray`s long-range shot cannoned off the woodwork, setting up a frantic climax.

With a share of the spoils looming, Gray sent the home fans into raptures when he cut inside two players and beat Ramsdale with a thunderbolt from 25 metres which went in off the post, giving Everton their first league win in nine games.

Defender Ezri Konsa scored twice as Aston Villa came back from a goal down to beat Leicester City 2-1, rising above them to 10th spot in the Premier League table on goal difference on Sunday after a pulsating encounter.

Harvey Barnes squeezed the ball through Konsa's legs to open the scoring in the 14th minute, but Konsa got the last touch on Emiliano Buendia's goal-bound header to put his side level again three minutes later.

Villa thought they had taken the lead in first-half stoppage time when Jacob Ramsey fired home in a tussle with Kasper

Schmeichel, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review when the keeper was found to have been in control of the ball.

Undeterred, Konsa got the lead nine minutes into the second half as he headed home John McGinn`s corner from a tight angle at the back post.

The goal was the 10th that Leicester have conceded from a set piece this season, excluding penalties.

McGinn's pinpoint set pieces and incisive passing created plenty of opportunities in the second half for Villa, with Ollie Watkins denied by Schmeichel in the 67th minute and Jacob Ramsey spurning another chance four minutes later.

Jamie Vardy came off the bench to give Leicester`s attack a shot in the arm but it was Harvey Barnes who came closest to getting an equaliser for the visitors, forcing a brilliant save from Emiliano Martinez in the 75th minute.

Schmeichel's goalkeeping kept Leicester in the game and he also made a late foray up the field for a corner in second-half stoppage time, but Villa managed to hang on to give new boss Steven Gerrard his third win in four league games.

Villa coach Gerrard revealed that his efforts to fire up his side at halftime paid dividends.

"I thought Leicester started really well. We were too passive. When we made passes there were loads of sloppy turnovers. We gave the players some home truths at half-time. The reaction was exactly what we wanted," he told Sky Sports.

"To take nine points from 12 is a big return from the players. They deserve a load of credit, but there`s still work to do. Some of them still need to improve," he added.

Next up for Gerrard is a return to Anfield, but it will not be a sentimental journey for the 41-year-old.

Premier League: Ezri Konsa strikes twice as Aston Villa come back to beat Leicester 2-1

An early goal from Lucas Moura and two after halftime from Davinson Sanchez and Son Heung-min ensured a third successive Premier League win for Tottenham Hotspur as they beat Norwich City 3-0 at home on Sunday.

Victory lifted Spurs into fifth place with 25 points from 14 matches, 10 points off the top of the table but with a game in hand, as new manager Antonio Conte continued to make an impact.

Moura gave the home side a 10th-minute lead with a shot from outside the penalty area that proved as impressive a finish as the slick build-up that led to it.

Sanchez thrashed home a loose ball from close range from Son’s corner to double the lead after 67 minutes and effectively snuff out some enterprising passages of play from struggling Norwich.

Ten minutes later Son held off the visiting defence to work himself into position and smash the ball past Tim Krul in the Norwich goal.

Defeat for the Canaries was the first since Dean Smith took over as manager and left them bottom of the table.

They did create opportunities, however, with Teemu Pukki coming close to snatching a third-minute lead but hitting his shot straight at Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

They were also well-placed to equalise soon after halftime but Adam Idah spurned a close-range chance with the goal at his mercy after Pukki had miscued an initial effort.

Spurs’ superior finishing made all the difference even if skipper Harry Kane failed to add to the single league goal he has scored this season.

Moura’s effort was powerfully hit, Sanchez showed split second reactions to snap up his goal after Ben Davies had flicked on Son’s corner and Son`s powerful run past the Norwich defence also resulted in a well-taken goal.

"I think we have a good mentality. Step by step we work very hard a and try to put on the pitch what Antonio gives us. Our style of play is aggressive now with a lot of intensity. We are doing very well," Moura said.

It was the first time Spurs had scored three goals in a home league game this season.

"I think we were in it until the second goal and thought if we got one we could have got something," added Norwich defender Brandon Williams.

"It is not a three-goal game. We were in it at halftime. Lack of concentration and giving space to a team like this, they will finish it off. We need to work on finishing. We have missed big chances to go ahead and control the game."

Premier League: Spurs climb to fifth with comfortable 3-0 win over Norwich City

Ralf Rangnick's reign at Manchester United got off to a winning start thanks to a stunning strike from the much-maligned Fred to beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

A bright start from the Red Devils fizzled out without reward and the German looked like he might have to settle for a disappointing draw in his first match since taking charge until the end of the season.

But Fred, who had been a target for much of the criticism towards the end of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's time as manager, produced a moment of magic with a curling effort on his weaker right foot 13 minutes from time to snatch a crucial victory.

United move back to within three points of the top four and up to sixth in the Premier League table.

There were no immediate changes from Rangnick in the line-up as he named an unchanged side from Thursday's 3-2 win over Arsenal.

But there was an instant change in approach as United pressed Palace into coughing up possession deep inside their own half twice in the first five minutes.

However, there was a lack of precision to match United's intensity.

Cristiano Ronaldo took his tally of goals for club and country to 801 with a double in midweek, but his long wait to net from a free-kick goes on as his effort from the edge of the box did not dip in time.

Ronaldo also had a shot blocked by Marc Guehi after deciding against hitting Bruno Fernandes' dinked pass first time.

United's best chance of the first 45 minutes fell to Fred, but his goalbound effort was bravely diverted behind by James Tomkins.

Fernandes finally tested Vicente Guaita from Ronaldo's knockdown before Diogo Dalot fired wastefully over on his weaker left foot with the last kick of the first half.

However, United's early enthusiasm to impress their new boss drained away as the second half performance more closely resembled the final days of Solskjaer's reign.

Palace should have gone in front 15 minutes from time when Jordan Ayew somehow turned Tomkins' header back across goal and beyond the reach of Guehi at the back post.

Rangnick comes with a reputation of putting his faith in young players and showed that as he sacrificed Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford for Mason Greenwood and Anthony Elanga in search of a winner.

Greenwood made a telling contribution as it was from his layoff that Fred looped the ball over Guaita.

Premier League: Fred gives Ralf Rangnick reign at Manchester United lift off 1-0 vs Crystal Palace

Reigning champions Manchester City claimed top spot in the Premier League for the first time this season as Bernardo Silva scored twice in a 3-1 victory at Watford on Saturday.

Raheem Sterling's early header paved the way to a comfortable win for Pep Guardiola's side who made the most of morning leaders Chelsea's earlier 3-2 defeat at West Ham United.

Silva fired in from a tight angle in the 31st minute and put City in cruise control just past the hour mark when he curled a delightful effort into the top corner.

In truth City's winning margin should have been bigger against a struggling Watford side who were given some late hope when Cucho Hernandez pulled a goal back.

City's fifth successive league win lifted them to 35 points from 15 games, one point ahead of Liverpool and two in front of Chelsea in what is shaping up to be a three-way title tussle.

The sight of Guardiola`s City hitting the top in the run-up to Christmas will send shivers through their rivals.

Once they climbed to the summit last season in January they marched off into the distance, although this time the form of Liverpool suggests they will not have things all their own way.

"It's still the beginning, we are not even halfway through and there is a lot of hard work to do," Silva, who is City`s surprise leading league scorer with seven goals, said.

"It's always better to be top of the league than second, third or fourth, but it`s so close -- Liverpool are just one point behind us, Chelsea are two points behind us.

"But we are in good form and we want to keep it that way."

LONG NIGHT

It was only a fortnight ago that Claudio Ranieri's side put Manchester United to the sword at Vicarage Road.

But they barely got a kick in the first half against City.

Once Sterling was given the freedom of the penalty area to head in Phil Foden's cross after four minutes it always looked like being a long night for the hosts.

Jack Grealish could have had a hat-trick before halftime as he wasted several glorious chances but Silva soon showed him how to find the back of the net.

The Portuguese playmaker's astute pass set up a chance for Ilkay Gundogan whose shot was saved by Daniel Bachmann but as the ball came out Silva was alert to drill a low shot into the net from an acute angle.

His second was a thing of beauty. Taking a pass from Kyle Walker on the right, Silva cut inside Danny Rose and curled a shot into the top corner with almost nonchalant ease.

City switched off slightly to allow Hernandez to score after his shot came back off the post, but it was a minor hiccup on a thoroughly satisfying day.

Premier League: Bernardo Silva strikes twice as Man City go top of table after comfortable win vs Watford

Divock Origi struck deep into stoppage time to take Liverpool top of the Premier League with a last gasp 1-0 win at Wolves on Saturday.

The much-maligned Belgian came off the bench to strike with seconds remaining to ensure the Reds did not rue a host of missed chances at Molineux.

Chelsea's defeat to West Ham earlier on Saturday handed Jurgen Klopp's men the chance to move ahead of the European champions.

Origi's low finish from Mohamed Salah's cut-back moves Liverpool a point clear of the Blues and two ahead of Manchester City, who face Watford later on Saturday.

Liverpool had scored four goals in each of their last three league games and two or more in 18 straight games, but saw that run come to an end due to a rare off day with their finishing.

Trent Alexander-Arnold volleyed over before Diogo Jota headed over the first of his big chances to score against his former club.

Salah was denied a simple tap in for his 20th goal in as many games by a miraculous last-ditch challenge from Romain Saiss to divert Andy Robertson's cross to safety.

The chances continued to come and go for Liverpool after the break, but none were bigger than the one presented to Jota midway through the half.

A mix up between Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa and Saiss allowed the Portuguese international to walk the ball towards and unguarded net, but he fired straight at Conor Coady on the line rather than placing the ball into the corner.

Heroics from Sa then seemed set to earn Wolves a point as he denied Mane and Salah.

But he was finally beaten with virtually the last kick of the game as this time Salah played the provider and picked out Origi, who spun before lashing the ball in low on his left foot to spark scenes of wild celebration from Klopp and the rest of the Liverpool bench.

It took Chelsea only four minutes to get back in front when Mount, back to his best after an absence due to wisdom teeth problems, connected with a long pass from Hakim Ziyech for a perfect volley that caught out Fabianski at his near post.

Chelsea brought on Romelu Lukaku at the start of the second half to replace the injured Kai Havertz. But West Ham drew level again in the 56th minute when Bowen fired in hard and low from the edge of the box.

Premier League: Manchester City sweep aside Everton to close on Chelsea

The Premier League club Manchester United confirmed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left his role as manager. The decision to sack Ole, which was expected as per the media reports, comes immediately after an embarrassing 4-1 defeat against Watford on Saturday (November 20) and an overall dismal season so far.

In a statement, the elite club wrote that Ole will always be a 'legend' at Manchester United. The statement further read: "It is with regret that we have reached this difficult decision. While the past few weeks have been disappointing, they should not obscure all the work he has done over the past three years to rebuild the foundations for long-term success."

The club looks to appoint an interim manager to the end of the season, till then, Michael Carrick will take charge of the team for forthcoming games.

However, Ole had signed a new three-year deal in July (extension until 2024) but now leaving after the club lost five of their last seven league games, including defeats by Aston Villa, Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester City.

The season so far has been below average for the club as currently they are placed at seventh in the Premier League. The arrival of Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo in August didn't help the club as after a good start to the campaign they have slipped in the standings after 12 games, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea.

United have not won the Premier League since Alex Ferguson's last season in charge in 2013 when he led them to the title for the 13th time in his reign at Old Trafford.

Ole Sacked! Manchester United confirm Solskjaer exit after Watford defeat

A stunning strike by Ollie Watkins and a late goal by Tyrone Mings gave Aston Villa a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Villa Park in the Premier League on Saturday in Steven Gerrard's first match as their new manager.

Villa scored on the counter-attack in the 84th minute after substitute Ashley Young carried the ball out of defence and found Watkins, who cut in from the left before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Mings put the result beyond doubt when he scored Villa's second in the 89th minute to snap their run of five league defeats that ended in the club sacking Dean Smith and replacing him with Gerrard on Nov. 11.

The match looked headed for a goalless draw before the two late Villa strikes, with neither side able to carve out many chances.

Villa started well and nearly took the lead in the 12th minute when Matt Targett's cross found Matthew Cash at the back post, but the right back's low header was turned away by Jason Steele in the Brighton goal.

Brighton grew into the contest and came close on the half-hour mark, when Marc Cucurella crossed from the left and the ball came off Jacob Ramsey and fell to Leandro Trossard, whose close range shot was parried by goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Brighton dominated possession but carved out few clear chances, and Martinez did well to race off his line and smother a Tariq Lamptey strike in stoppage time at the end of the first half to keep the scores level.

Villa were denied again at the start of the second half when John McGinn floated the ball in from a freekick and found Tyrone Mings, whose header back across goal was kept out by the diving Steele.

The match looked destined for a stalemate before Watkins struck to put Villa on course for a much-needed victory that moved them up to 15th in the table on 13 points, four above the relegation zone. Brighton slipped one spot to eighth place.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is considered one of the best and sought after managers in the history of the English Premier League, some even say best in the world. He is known for his team management skills, but his comments on managing a country are also valuable.

Klopp said the system should be such where people should be elected in top positions to sort the problems. The voting should not be based on "most funny" or the "weirdest haircut". There should right people in the system.

Newcastle United's new manager Eddie Howe said on Wednesday that his first goal was to keep the club in the Premier League following their dismal start to the season, adding that his team must "suffer" and "sacrifice" to stay up.

Newcastle are winless and second from bottom in the league standings with five points from 11 games.

Speaking for the first time since succeeding Steve Bruce on Monday, Howe said: "I've had some good conversations with the owners but it's all about the short-term. The aim is to stay in the league, that's my main focus.

"Absolutely confident (can avoid relegation), but I make no promises on that. I'll give everything to the club. I believe we have the ability in the squad but it's going to take a lot of hard work and sacrifice."

Bruce left the club by mutual consent last month, two weeks after Newcastle were acquired by a Saudi Arabia-backed consortium.

Howe had been out of work since he left Bournemouth in August 2020 after the south-coast club were relegated from the Premier League on the final day of the season.

The 43-year-old said that the time away from the sport had re-energised him and made him a better manager, one who was more in touch with the modern game.

"I felt I needed to rest, recharge and re-educate myself... I'm better organised now and my way of working is more streamlined," added Howe.

While stressing that he did not want to look too far ahead, Howe said he wanted his side to play an entertaining brand of football.

"I feel I have a good idea of the teams strengths and weakness... the game is always about how much you commit one way or the other but if you watch my Bournemouth teams always tried to play on the front foot and play brave attacking football," he said.

"I want to play football that entertains and excites and I think that is the type of football Newcastle fans want to see."

Howe confirmed that Jason Tindall, Stephen Purches, Simon Weatherstone and Dan Hodges will make up his backroom staff while Graeme Jones, who was appointed caretaker boss following Bruce's departure, will also be part of the team.

The new manager's first game in charge will be against Brentford in the league at home on Nov. 20 after the international break.

West Ham United showed that their place in the Premier League's top four was fully warranted as they outmuscled Liverpool for a memorable 3-2 victory at a rocking London Stadium on Sunday.

Victory for high-flying West Ham ended Liverpool`s club record 25-match unbeaten run in all competitions and lifted them above Juergen Klopp`s side into third place in the table.

What always looked like a tough fixture for Liverpool began badly when keeper Alisson, who endured a difficult afternoon, flapped a cross into his own goal after four minutes.

Liverpool were never allowed to find any fluency but they were level by halftime thanks to a moment of magic from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Those expecting Liverpool to find another gear after the break were left disappointed as West Ham took the game by the scruff of the neck.

Craig Dawson hit the bar for West Ham early in the second half as Liverpool wobbled at the back, before Pablo Fornals restored West Ham`s lead in the 66th minute before Kurt Zouma rose to head in West Ham's third in the 74th minute.

Substitute Divock Origi gave Liverpool a lifeline with a shot on the turn in the 82nd minute and Sadio Mane should have levelled in stoppage time but the hosts clung on for a victory that would be celebrated into the night by the home fans.

West Ham's fourth consecutive league win moves them to 23 points from 11 games with Juergen Klopp's side one point behind them and the Hammers head into the international break just three points behind leaders Chelsea.

It was a day to forget for Liverpool and especially Alisson.

The game was only four minutes old when he flapped at a Fornals corner under pressure from Angelo Ogbonna and the ball ended up in the net. He hoped for a reprieve via a VAR check but the goal was rightly allowed to stand.

Liverpool were ragged and a little lucky not to be down to 10 men after Diogo Jota caught Ogbonna with his elbow, forcing the West Ham player to be substituted.

But they got back into the game when Alexander-Arnold played a short free kick to Mohamed Salah who then stopped it for the English defender to curl past Lukasz Fabianski and temporarily silence the home fans.

Fabianski made a crucial save from Mane`s volley after the break and minutes later West Ham went back ahead as Fornals went clean through and beat Alisson with a low shot that the Brazilian stopper might have saved.

Mikel Arteta celebrated his 100th game as Arsenal manager with a 1-0 victory against 10-man Watford on Sunday as the resurgent Gunners climbed to fifth in the Premier League.

Emile Smith Rowe broke the deadlock in the second half after an inspired performance from Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster had frustrated the hosts, with Juraj Kucka dismissed late on at the Emirates Stadium.

The three points mean Arsenal, unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions, leapfrog Brighton and Manchester United.

Watford are just two points above the relegation zone after three defeats in four league matches under new boss Claudio Ranieri.

The Gunners last season failed to qualify for Europe for the first time in 26 years but they are now unbeaten in 10 games in all competitions.

The home side thought they had taken a seventh-minute lead when Bukayo Saka tucked away a loose ball in the area after Foster parried Alexandre Lacazette's chip.

Arsenal were awarded a penalty when former Tottenham defender Danny Rose rashly thrust his arm into Lacazette's head in the 34th minute.

But 38-year-old Foster superbly saved Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's unconvincing spot-kick.

Kucka produced Watford's brightest first-half moment when he dispossessed Albert Sambi Lokonga and saw his shot deflected just wide by Ben White.

Foster continued to keep Arsenal at bay, making another sharp save with his foot to deny Gabriel's firm header from a corner shortly before half-time.

But Smith Rowe broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, scoring his third goal in as many Premier League games when his strike from the edge of the area ricocheted off Craig Cathcart and into the net.

Aubameyang's forgettable day continued when he poked home Martin Odegaard's goal-bound shot in an offside position. Aaron Ramsdale had a nervy moment late on when he rushed from his goal and failed to clear the ball but Josh King hit the side-netting from a tight angle. Kucka was sent off in the 89th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a late challenge on Nuno Tavares, while Foster denied Lokonga in added time.
