After stumbling to a defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League, Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that he believes that he can turn the fortunes around for the Red Devils.

Manchester City dished out a dominant performance as an Eric Bailly own goal and a Bernardo Silva strike earned the champions their first Manchester derby victory in five Premier League attempts over their local rivals at Old Trafford on Saturday.

"I have good communication with the club. I want the best for United and as long as I`m here I want to do everything I can to improve this. We`ve been through this a few times and since the last home game, it`s been a very difficult period. Systems or style we need to be on the front foot more. I can`t look at myself and say this is how I want United to be," Solskjaer told Sky Sports, as reported by Goal.com.

"Can I turn United`s season around? Definitely. And you`re right, back to where we should be, for me it`s about back to what we started to look like, we started to look a proper team, we started to look like a team I like to see. We`ve had three or four weeks now of a disappointing spell," he added.

City went ahead on seven minutes when Bailly diverted Joao Cancelo`s cross into his own net. Cancelo earned his second assist with a cross which was turned in by Bernardo at the far post behind a hesitant Luke Shaw.

The hosts improved in the second half but also lost Shaw to a head injury. City, who move second with 23 points, almost scored again late on as Phil Foden clipped a post. A fourth consecutive home match without a win keeps United in fifth with 17 points.

Want best for Manchester United, I can turn the season around, says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Despondent Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said his side took a "big step backwards" with their performance level against Manchester City as their rivals strolled to a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United had one shot on target all match in the Manchester rain, with a dominant City condemning them to a third defeat in their last four home league games with ease.

Solskjaer's side have lost eight home matches in all competitions in 2021, their most in a calendar year since losing eight in 1989, with the pressure mounting on the Norwegian as he struggles to turn things around.

"Of course it's very disappointing," Solskjaer said. "It`s a big step backwards, it is a way of losing that we don`t like.

"When you lose a game against a good team you want to see a better Man United team than that.

"When we had the ball they pressed us really well. We couldn`t get the angles we needed to get the quality we have in behind.

So we never got to the level that we need to be at to win against good teams."

The knives were out for Solskjaer after United`s thrashing at the hands of Liverpool in their previous home league match, but a win at Tottenham Hotspur and a Champions League draw at Atalanta hinted at better times ahead, before City put them to the sword.

Premier League: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rues 'big step backwards' after limp display in Man City loss

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said his side were able to dominate rivals Manchester United in their 2-0 victory at Old Trafford on Saturday by simply keeping them away from the ball with a relentless passing game.

City dominated&nbsp;from start to finish at Old Trafford, with Eric Bailly`s early own goal and Bernardo Silva's strike just before half time enough to earn Pep Guardiola`s side a first win over their rivals in their last five league meetings.

The scoreline was not a true reflection of City`s superiority. The visitors completed 753 passes in the match - the most any team has made in a Premier League game against United since 2003-04 - when Opta began recording pass data.

"The players deserve my pride, my admiration," Guardiola said. "We played a really good game from the beginning until the end. The best way to silence Old Trafford is to have the ball, and make pass, pass, pass.

"They have some amazing players, Cristiano (Ronaldo), (Marcus) Rashford, and the only way to stop them is more passes, more passes. We will have a lot of chances in this way, but the chances will be more clear and that will win games.

"We played our game. The players in the middle we have are amazing - Rodri does an exceptional job and Kevin (De Bruyne) is back today in his level. Having the ball like we do is the only way you can control."

Guardiola refused to be overly critical of a United side who have now lost three of their last four home league games.

'Best way to silence United is pass, pass, pass': Pep Guardiola on Manchester City dominance

Chelsea were held to a surprise 1-1 draw by struggling Burnley as Matej Vydra's late equaliser rocked the Premier League leaders on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel's side led through Kai Havertz's first half header and were 11 minutes away from moving five points clear at the top before Vydra stunned Stamford Bridge into silence.

It was a brutal blow to Chelsea given their territorial dominance, but they had no response as their four-match winning run in the league came to an end.

The Blues sit three points clear of second placed Manchester City, who won at Manchester United earlier on Saturday.

Third placed Liverpool can move within one point of Chelsea if they beat West Ham on Sunday.

Although Chelsea are unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions, this setback underlined their lack of cutting edge without injured strikers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

Burnley should have been dead and buried before Vydra's late invention.

But a fine display from Burnley keeper Nick Pope and some wasteful Chelsea finishing allowed the visitors to escape with a point.

It was just the second goal Chelsea had conceded in their last seven games in all competitions.

Tuchel will hope both Lukaku and Werner are available soon after the forthcoming international break.

Chelsea's failure to take three points overshadowed a fine display from Ross Barkley.

Barkley, who spent last season in exile on loan at Aston Villa, has never looked at home with Chelsea since his move from Everton in 2018.

But, with Mason Mount only available from a bench after a tooth infection, the midfielder produced one of his most influential performances in a Chelsea shirt.

The 27-year-old, deployed in a 'false nine' role, surged towards the Burnley area and teed up Callum Hudson-Odoi for a shot that was saved by Pope before the winger fired the rebound wide.

That was the signal for a period of sustained Chelsea pressure, with Andreas Christensen glancing a header just wide.

Touchline spat&nbsp;

Jorginho threatened with a header that Pope pushed away at full-stretch, while Barkley curled narrowly wide from the edge of the area.

Barkley's crunching foot-up challenge on Ben Mee sparked a spat between Tuchel and Sean Dyche, with the Chelsea boss jumping from his seat in a finger-pointing fury that brought an angry response from the Burnley boss before they were kept apart.

Chelsea kept pressing and Reece James' deflected cross was clawed away for a corner by Pope.

The Blues' dominance paid dividends in the 33rd minute.

Just moments earlier, Havertz needed treatment after tumbling over an advertising board into the Matthew Harding Stand, but the German forward was clearly unfazed by that painful landing.

N'Golo Kante picked out James down the right and the defender's pin-point cross reached the unmarked Havertz, who thumped a clinical header past Pope for his fourth goal this season.

With Chelsea pressing for the knockout blow, Thiago Silva headed against a post from another precise James cross early in the second half.

Havertz should have landed that killer punch when he shot over after Hudson-Odoi's cross picked him out six yards from goal.

Hudson-Odoi's low strike was repelled by Pope and Barkley smashed over from a good position before departing to a standing ovation when he was substituted.

It was a curious decision by Tuchel given Barkley's influence and Burnley took advantage to snatch an equaliser completely against the run of play in the 79th minute.

Matthew Lowton chested the ball down for Ashley Westwood and his cross caught the Chelsea defence napping.

Jay Rodriguez headed it back across goal for Vydra to stab home from close-range.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Friday refused to get caught up in the hype surrounding the weekend derby at Manchester United, saying it was special for the fans but was not like playing in a semi-final or final.

City travel to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday, with Guardiola`s side three points ahead of their rivals after 10 games.

Asked if it was the biggest game for him, Guardiola replied: "I don`t think so, maybe for some people. We try to make every game important. Of course derbies are special for many sentimental issues but we want the same results.

"But in the end it is not a final or a semi-final.

"I don`t go to restaurants or pubs. I can imagine how important it is for both sides, but I have to be cool in my mind and head, to know what we have to do, to do our best, no more than that."

City bounced back from a 2-0 home defeat by Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend with a thumping 4-1 win over Brugge in the Champions League in midweek.

Guardiola added City can cope without a traditional number nine and have enough players to score goals, amid criticism that the champions are struggling without a top-class striker.

"Just trust a bit how many goals we scored last year without a striker because Sergio (Aguero) was injured? Maybe in the future we will buy a proper striker a number nine who will score goals, who knows," he said.

Third-placed City have scored 20 goals in the Premier League this season, nine fewer than Liverpool in second and six behind leaders Chelsea.

"When you don`t score goals it is `be calm for the next one`. When you score it is `be calm` for the next one`. In three days we don`t need a striker and then after that we need to buy seven strikers. We need to be calm and go out and play our game."

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has won four of his eight meetings with Guardiola in all competitions, with the Spaniard saying that the addition of Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo had made the opposition stronger.

Chelsea moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League after Manchester City lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace and Liverpool were held to a draw by Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea coasted to a 3-0 win at struggling Newcastle United with Reece James scoring twice before a Jorginho penalty wrapped up the victory. The West London club have 25 points from 10 games with Liverpool three points behind and champions City two further back. City fell behind to a Wilfried Zaha goal in the sixth minute and had defender Ayeric Laporte sent off for denying Zaha a goalscoring opportunity on the stroke of halftime. Premier League: Chelsea profit as Manchester City shocked by Crystal Palace, Liverpool held by Brighton

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was the star of the show as Arsenal made it nine games unbeaten in all competitions with a 2-0 victory at Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Arsenal have been steadily improving under coach Mikel Arteta after a difficult start to the season, following on from last term's eighth-placed finish.

The victory that kept Arsenal climbing the table on Saturday - they are now up to fifth in the standings with other teams still to play this weekend - came about thanks to the big helping hands of their goalkeeper.

Arsenal flew out of the traps at the King Power Stadium, taking a two-goal lead inside 18 minutes through Brazilian centre Gabriel Magalhaes and livewire Emile Smith Rowe.

Leicester grew into the match after their laboured start and had several chances to get themselves back into the contest before half time, only to find Gunners keeper Ramsdale in inspired form.

Ramsdale's leap to keep James Maddison's free-kick out just before half time was a contender for save of the season, as he clawed the ball away in spectacular fashion to prevent it flying into the top corner.

After the break, Leicester continued to create chances which on another day they would have converted, but Ramsdale refused to be beaten, bailing his side out time and again to ensure a vital victory on Arsenal's road to recovery.

A seventh win in that unbeaten run of nine means Arsenal climbed above Leicester who drop to 10th, with their inconsistent form this term hurting them.

"It is a superb result away from home against a top team," Ramsdale told BT Sport. "We started really well and got two good goals.

"Thankfully it was one of those afternoons that I contributed. We should have had a few more clean sheets (this season) but I'm happy with this one."

The visitors did not have to wait long for the opener, as Gabriel flicked a header home from Bukayo Saka's corner.

Arsenal continued to completely dominate the hosts, who beat Manchester United in their last home league match, and soon enough Smith Rowe latched onto the loose ball to make it two.

Ramsdale's first intervention came in the 29th minute as he sprung to his right to deny Kelechi Iheanacho, before the Arsenal keeper pulled out a stop we will be seeing for years to come from Maddison. He even had the awareness to get to his feet to keep out the rebound as well.

Leicester full back Luke Thomas drilled wide early in the second half as Leicester continued to press, before another brilliant Ramsdale save denied Ademola Lookman.

Ramsdale was then at it again to smother at the feet of Harvey Barnes, as he proved unbeatable.

"Their keeper made a great save but at 2-0 we had to do something in the game," Leicester coach Brendan Rodgers said.

"Second half we were much the better team. The keeper made great saves but you rue the start - that's what cost you. Kasper (Schmeichel) didn't have much to do."

Of the goalkeepers to have faced more than two shots on target this season, only Edouard Mendy (89.7%) is enjoying a higher save percentage than Ramsdale (85.7%), who has saved 24 of the 28 shots on target he has faced.

Manchester United thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford in the Premier League on Saturday to ease the pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Ronaldo struck in the 39th minute with a perfect right-foot volley into the far corner of Hugo Lloris`s net from a glorious pass by Portuguese compatriot Bruno Fernandes.

Cavani added the second in the 64th and substitute Rashford wrapped up a comfortable win four minutes from time as United put last weekend`s 5-0 home drubbing by Liverpool behind them.

"Great goals, all of them," Solskjaer said. "The first one is the major one. What a pass from Bruno and Cristiano is the best. If he misses one he`s still as focused for the next one.

"The experience of Edinson Cavani and Cristiano is massive. We need it. We can`t hide. The week has been difficult for all the players. They really stuck at it."

United`s first Premier League win since Sept. 19 lifted them to fifth in the table on 17 points from 10 games, while Nuno Espirito Santo`s shot-shy Spurs side are in eighth on 15.

The visitors came into the match following a week in which questions were raised about the future of Solskjaer after arch-rivals Liverpool ran them ragged at Old Trafford on Sunday.

But led by the class of Ronaldo the visitors dug in and battled for their under-fire boss in a first half which ended with the Portuguese volleying the opener to settle his side.

It was Ronaldo`s 11th goal in 19 games against Spurs and the forward has scored more times against the London side than any other English team during his career.

BREATHING SPACE

Tottenham struggled to carve out any clear openings with Harry Kane lacking support despite the efforts of Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura, whose substitution was booed by the home fans.

Ten minutes later Cavani was played through by Ronaldo and the Uruguayan calmly clipped the ball into the net to give United breathing space and silence the disgruntled home crowd.

It was left for Rashford to come off the bench and apply the coup de grace with a simple finish to give Solskjaer hope that he can turn the season around and save his job.

Asked if the win means United can forget about the defeat by Liverpool, Solskjaer said: "Of course it doesn`t. That`s always going to be in the history books - one of the darkest days. A dark spot on our CV. But football becomes history so quickly."

Tottenham`s capitulation means their manager Nuno finds the spotlight fixed on his tenure in his first season in charge with his side lacking creativity and failing to get a shot on target.

Spurs have scored their fewest goals after 10 league games since 2013-14 when they also got nine, while United kept their second clean sheet in 22 games in all competitions.

"We conceded in poor ways, lost balls, allowed counter-attacks. We couldn`t break them," said Nuno. "The last pass was never there, the finish was never there. Bad performance."

Premier League: Manchester United's Marcus Rashford 'embarrassed' by Liverpool thrashing

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played down suggestions he will step down from his role after Sunday`s 5-0 defeat by Liverpool in the English Premier League. Mohamed Salah scored a hat-trick at Old Trafford as United slipped to seventh on the league table, stretching their winless run in the league to four matches.

Solskjaer`s position has come under more scrutiny after Sunday's defeat but the Norwegian vowed to stay and fight for his job.

"I do believe in myself," Solskjaer told reporters. "I do believe that I`m getting close to what I want with the club. I think what we`ve done, what I`ve seen, the development. Of course, the results lately haven`t been good enough, I have to say, and that`s... hands up. And that brings doubt in anyone`s mind, probably. But I`ve got to keep strong and I do believe in what we`ve been doing."

Solskjaer, who was named United`s permanent manager in March 2019, has yet to win a trophy with the club. United are eight points behind league leaders Chelsea and play away to Tottenham Hotspur in the league on Saturday before travelling to Italy three days later to face Atalanta in the Champions League group stage.

"Today`s rock bottom, low in confidence," Solskjaer added. "But, you know, the next week it`s Tottenham away. It`s a Champions League game, Atalanta, the next team who visits us is Manchester City.

But I`ve got to keep strong and I do believe in what we`ve been doing." "Today`s rock bottom, low in confidence," Solskjaer added. "But, you know, the next week it`s Tottenham away. It`s a Champions League game, Atalanta, the next team who visits us is Manchester City. Premier League: Hat-trick hero Mohamed Salah hails 'big win' as Liverpool thrash Man Utd

A hat-trick from Mason Mount propelled Chelsea to a 7-0 win over bottom side Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday, extending their lead at the top of the table and demonstrating they still had firepower despite injuries to their strikers.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel had called on his attacking players to step up after injuries to striker Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner during Wednesday`s Champions League win over Malmo.

The players obeyed and Mount opened Chelsea`s account when he sent the ball low into the net after a layoff from Jorginho in a move started down the left by the ever-busy Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The 20-year-old Hudson-Odoi earned his own reward 11 minutes later when he latched on to a pinpoint throughball from Mateo Kovacic and held his nerve to fire home past the outstretched leg of Norwich keeper Tim Krul.

A third Chelsea Academy product got on the scoresheet three minutes before halftime when Mount slid the ball into the path of Reece James and the wing-back produced a delicious chip over the advancing Krul.

Tuchel has said he believes Chelsea`s success is built upon a happy combination of home grown and foreign players and it took 12 minutes of the second half for Chelsea`s, now purring, machine to score again. England left back Ben Chilwell sent a Kovacic pass across the face of the goal and into the back of the net past a despairing Krul.

Norwich, who have failed to win a game this season and have scored just two goals, were in disarray and then suffered the indignity of an own goal from Max Aarons in the 62nd and a sending off for Ben Gibson after a second yellow card two minutes later.

By now the European champions were peppering the Norwich goal with attempts and, but for some last ditch defending and some fine Krul saves, substitutes Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Hakim Ziyech and Ross Barkley might all have scored.

Krul saved a penalty from Mount late in the game but VAR showed he had moved off his line and when the kick was retaken in the 85th minute the England midfielder made no mistake.

Mount capped off his fine performance with a tap-in from a Loftus-Cheek pass in the 91st minute to register his first hat-trick and send fans home happy.

Chelsea have 22 points, ahead of Liverpool, who play Manchester United on Sunday and have 18 points.

Manchester United's players need time to adjust to each other and their playing styles, forward Cristiano&nbsp;Ronaldo&nbsp;said, encouraging his team to overcome their inconsistent start to the Premier League campaign.

United brought in the likes of&nbsp;Ronaldo, forward Jadon Sancho and centre back Raphael Varane in the close season but have made a stuttering start domestically to sit sixth in the table with 14 points from eight games.

"The adaptation will take time, even the system of the game that we play, but I think step by step we have to put it in our mind that everything is possible,"&nbsp;Ronaldo&nbsp;told Sky Sports.

"I don't speak only about my individual stuff, I put the collective in first place. To win things as a collective - it's more easy to win individual stuff - I still think it's possible."

Ronaldo&nbsp;has made a strong start to his second spell at the club, scoring six goals in all competitions so far. The 36-year-old called for "sacrifice" from his colleagues to lift the team.

"Everyone should know their role. I know my role in the team, in the club... My role is to score goals, to help the team with my experience and know-how to understand the game," the Portuguese added.

"If everyone is thinking like that, sacrifice for the team, I think we will be a better team. We have fantastic supporters behind us, fantastic stadium, fantastic team, so we have to carry on like that."

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has alleged that he was sexually abused by a teacher when he was 13 years old. In his upcoming autobiography, 'I Love This Game', Evra has detailed the harrowing experience and also spoke about it during an interview with The Times newspaper on Friday. An extract from his new book read: " The teacher, believing I'd gone to sleep, would put his hands under my bedcover and try to touch me. I knew what he was doing was wrong, so I tried to push him away and punch him... There were no words spoken in the dark, but he was touching himself and getting sexually excited by what was happening." In the interview to The Times, Evra said, "The first thing my mum says is, "if you don't sue him, I'll sue him. If he's still alive, I'm going to kill him." There is a lot of rage. I know my mum and people from my family will do research and see if they can sue. But I buried this thing so deep I didn't think about [prosecution]." Evra also revealed how his fiancee Margaux Alexandra helped him and enabled him to be more open about his past experiences. He said, "I met a new woman and emotionally I am more open. She is my best friend, my soulmate, even my psychologist, she is an angel." "Living with that was one of my biggest regrets because I could have helped so many people. I've had enough of this toxic masculinity. For my father, crying was weak, but crying is not being weak," he added. Evra joined United in 2006, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League. He later played for Juventus, Olympique de Marseille and West Ham United before retiring from the sport in July 2019. The book 'I Love This Game' by Patrice Evra will be out on October 28. Mohamed&nbsp;Salah&nbsp;has told Liverpool he wants to stay for the rest of his career, but the Egypt forward insisted the success of his contract negotiations with the club "doesn't depend on me".

Salah's current contract expires in 2023 and Liverpool are trying to finalise a new long-term deal.

The 29-year-old has so far been unable to come to terms with the Reds amid reports he wants wages that would make him one of the Premier League's top earners.

That has sparked fears&nbsp;Salah&nbsp;will leave Anfield eventually, a concern fuelled when he flirted with Real Madrid last season.

But, on the eve of Liverpool's clash with arch rivals Manchester United on Sunday,&nbsp;Salah&nbsp;put the ball in his club's court as he said he would stay forever given the chance.

Mohamed Salah has told Liverpool he wants to stay for the rest of his career, but the Egypt forward insisted the success of his contract negotiations with the club "doesn't depend on me". Salah's current contract expires in 2023 and Liverpool are trying to finalise a new long-term deal. The 29-year-old has so far been unable to come to terms with the Reds amid reports he wants wages that would make him one of the Premier League's top earners. That has sparked fears Salah will leave Anfield eventually, a concern fuelled when he flirted with Real Madrid last season. But, on the eve of Liverpool's clash with arch rivals Manchester United on Sunday, Salah put the ball in his club's court as he said he would stay forever given the chance. That would make me sad. "It's hard. I don't want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad and at the moment I don't see myself playing against Liverpool, but let's see what will happen in the future." Manchester United are an exceptional team and their midweek comeback win over Atalanta in the Champions League showed they have the quality to cause any team problems, Liverpool boss Juergen Klopp said on Friday.

United were 2-0 down to the Italian side at Old Trafford before mounting a spirited second-half comeback to win 3-2 and move to the top of their group.

Former United midfielder and television pundit Paul Scholes suggested Klopp, whose side visit Old Trafford on Sunday, may have been "rubbing his hands together" at halftime after watching their first-half performance, but the German manager said that was not the case.

"I wasn`t rubbing my hands watching that game, there was no reason for it. Atalanta caused United some problems but even in the first half, United had three clear-cut chances," Klopp told reporters.

"The second half was a pure power presentation of United going for it. With the quality they have, they can cause any team problems.

"I prepare the team for a tough game against an exceptional, really good opponent... We are long enough together to know we're up against a really good team and it`s an away game as well for us."

United are winless in their last three league games, losing twice to drop down to sixth. Klopp said they would be hurting ahead of one of the marquee fixtures of the season.

"We all know how the world in football is. United-Liverpool is a massive game," Klopp added.

"I think they aren`t overly happy with the results they`ve got so far, but we all know that they are able to do incredible stuff. That`s how it is, we saw it already."

The match will feature a highly-anticipated meeting between United`s Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool`s Mohamed Salah, but Klopp said there was no point trying to compare the two players.

"Why should you compare Cristiano and Salah? Both are world class players," he said.

"I would say Mo`s left foot is probably better and maybe Cristiano in the air is better and with his right foot. Speed-wise, both are quick and they`re both desperate to score goals."

Releasing a statement, the club stated: "No-one among the new ownership group was in any way offended by the attire of the fans who chose to celebrate in this way. It was a gesture that was acknowledged as positive and welcoming in its intent."

Newcastle, spurred on by a buoyant atmosphere in their first game since being taken over by a Saudi Arabia-led consortium, flew out of the traps and went ahead after just 108 seconds when Callum Wilson headed in from a Javi Manquillo cross.

But the bright start soon fizzled out as Spurs hit back in the 17th minute through Tanguy Ndombele, who lashed home from the edge of the box after being played in by Sergio Reguilon.

Things got worse for the hosts five minutes later when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg played an excellent ball over the Newcastle defence and Kane beat the offside trap to smartly dink it over Karl Darlow.

Son Heung-min added a third from close range in first-half stoppage time before Newcastle were reduced to 10 men in the 83rd minute when Jonjo Shelvey saw red for a second booking. An own-goal from Eric Dier set up a tense finish but Spurs held on.

Spurs moved up to fifth in the standings with 15 points from eight games. Newcastle are second from bottom with three points.

Angelo Ogbonna's late header earned West Ham United a 1-0 win at Everton on Sunday and lifted them to sixth in the Premier League table.

Neither side carved out any real chances in a cagey opening 45 minutes, with Alex Iwobi`s air shot going down as Everton`s best opening, before England stopper Jordan Pickford kept out Jarrod Bowen at the other end.

The Blues did look to increase the tempo after the restart with Iwobi`s close-range effort bravely blocked by Ogbonna and Salomon Rondon flicking a header just wide of the post.

West Ham made them pay with 15 minutes left when Ogbonna got above Ben Godfrey to nod home Bowen's whipped corner.

Premier League: West Ham United snatch battling win at Everton

Manchester United have an imbalanced squad and the team are "scrappy and scruffy" to watch, former defender Gary Neville said after Saturday`s 4-2 Premier League defeat at Leicester City.

United suffered their fourth defeat in their last seven games in all competitions as Leicester struck late goals in a thrilling match at the King Power Stadium.

The result also ended United`s 29-game unbeaten away run in the league, raising doubts over their ability to challenge for their first league title since 2013.

"The performances have been so shoddy all season in terms of team performances," Neville told Sky Sports.

"There`s been some good results and some great individual goals, but the overall performances and the unit in and out of possession have been shoddy.

"It`s scrappy and scruffy to watch. When you play a team with a clear organisation and a methodology, you`re going to get pulled apart and that`s what happened."

United have dropped to fifth in the standings and have 14 points from eight matches. They are due to face Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City -- the top three teams in the league -- in their next five league games.

"Manchester United at this moment in time are imbalanced," Neville added.

"The performances are now getting what they deserve in terms of the results. It needs to change. The performances need to be a lot better."

How much Cristiano Ronaldo earns per week? Mind-boggling salary of Manchester United star and his net worth

Chelsea beat neighbours Brentford 1-0 to keep their grip on the Premier League`s top spot on Saturday thanks to a Ben Chilwell strike but they owed their three points as much to goalkeeper Edouard Mendy who denied the hosts with a string of late saves.

Chilwell, back in the team after being side-lined early in the season, scored for the second match in a row when Brentford failed to clear and the ball dropped kindly for him to strike from 12 yards with a half volley in the 45th minute.

The hosts had earlier hit the post through Bryan Mbeumo and the Frenchman was again denied by the woodwork in the 75th minutes as the Bees subjected Chelsea to wave after wave of attacks in their second-half push for an equaliser.

Premier League new boys Brentford spent much of the first half pegged back by Chelsea but the red and white shirts piled forward after the break, roared on by their fans relishing their first league derby against their West London rivals since 1947.

In the 83rd minute, Mendy denied Saman Ghoddos as he rushed off his line to close down the angle, moments before Trevoh Chalobah saved the visitors by clearing off line from Christian Norgaard.

Chelsea's French goalkeeper made more fine saves, including turning over an acrobatic overhead effort by Norgaard in injury time.

Asked to describe the game, Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel told BBC: "Very strong for 70 minutes, very lucky for 20 minutes."

The match proved a baptism of fire for Chelsea`s Malang Sarr who made his league debut in the centre of defence, replacing the injured Antonio Rudiger while Thiago Silva returned to London from international duty for Brazil too late to play.

"We trust the guys who are young. If you don’t play you cannot get experience," Tuchel said.

The result leaves Chelsea one point clear of Liverpool at the top of the table on 19 points. Brentford, who have beaten London rivals Arsenal and West Ham United so far this season, stand in seventh place on 12 points.

Premier League: Leaders Chelsea survive late siege to beat Brentford 1-0

Leicester piled pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a late goal spree in their thrilling 4-2 victory against troubled Manchester United on Saturday.

Solskjaer will face renewed scrutiny after United's collapse at the King Power Stadium left them without a win in their last three Premier League games.

The United manager saw Mason Greenwood open the scoring early on, only for Leicester's Youri Tielemans to equalise before half-time.

Caglar Soyuncu put Leicester in front in the closing stages before Marcus Rashford marked his first appearance this season after shoulder surgery with United's leveller.

In a dramatic denouement, Leicester ended United's English league record 29-game unbeaten run away from home with goals from Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka in the last seven minutes.

It was a bitter blow for Solskjaer, who had already endured criticism after United were beaten by Aston Villa and held by Everton in their final games before the recent international break.

While Solskjaer may not be in immediate danger of the sack, the Norwegian must emerge with some notable victories from a testing period featuring matches against Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City and Atalanta twice in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo started after Solskjaer controversially left him on the bench for the first 57 minutes against Everton, but the Portugal star was held in check.

Spluttering United have won only one of their last five games in all competitions.

Adding to United's woes, the club were forced to defend their decision to fly the 100-mile journey to Leicester.

Claiming their travel plans changed due to "circumstances" amid reports of motorway traffic congestion, United were accused of disregarding climate change issues.

United played as though they were hampered by the jet-lag associated with much longer flights throughout a wretched display.

<h2>Ashen-faced Solskjaer</h2>

Greenwood put United ahead in the 19th minute when he cut in from the right and played a one-two with a Bruno Fernandes before smashing an unstoppable 20-yard strike into the top corner.

It was the 20-year-old's first goal since August and his fourth of the season.

Ronaldo's strike was fisted away by Kasper Schmeichel, but Leicester were level in the 31st minute as Tielemans matched Greenwood's moment of magic.

Harry Maguire, rusty on his return from a two-match calf injury lay-off, sloppily surrendered possession to Kelechi Iheanacho as he tried to play out from the back.

Iheanacho found Tielemans and the Belgium midfielder clipped a sublime lofted finish over David De Gea for his second goal this season.

Leicester had the upper hand and Iheanacho shot wide late in the first half before testing De Gea soon after the interval.

United were struggling to find their rhythm and although Nemanja Matic lashed narrowly wide with a long-range blast, it wasn't long before Solskjaer took off the anonymous Jadon Sancho.

There was little improvement in United's performance and De Gea had to make a good save to turn Tielemans' shot onto the woodwork.

De Gea plunged to his left to deny Daka, but Leicester's pressure paid off in the 78th minute.

Daka's shot was saved by De Gea and when the ball deflected off Ayoze Perez, Soyuncu was on hand to fire home from close-range.

Solskjaer must have felt a wave of relief when Rashford ran onto Victor Lindelof's ball over the top and smashed past Schmeichel in the 82nd minute.

But, less than 60 seconds later, Solskjaer's face was ashen again as Perez's pass found Vardy and the striker slotted into the corner with the outside of his boot.

Zambian striker Daka added to Solskjaer's misery in stoppage-time when he tapped in Tielemans' free-kick for his first Leicester goal.
