<p>Afghanistan batters, after Noor Ahmed's 3 for 49 and two strikes from Naveen-ul-Haq, then completed the run-chase in 49 overs with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), Ibrahim Zadran (87), Rahmat Shah (77*) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (48*) standing tall. After the historic win, Afghanistan head coach and former English batter Jonathan Trott lauded his troops in an inspiring dressing room speech. He hailed the collective effort of the entire XI and asked them to enjoy the win but also get ready for the upcoming challenges.</p>

Opting to bat first, Babar Azam-led Men in Green rode on captain's 74 and Abdullah Shafique's 58 to post 282 for 7, with Noor Ahmed claiming 3 for 49 before Afghan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), Player-of-the-Match Ibrahim Zadran (87), skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi (48*) and Rahmat Shah (77*) took their side home in 49 overs.</p>

<p>After the shocking defeat to Afghanistan, which is their third on the trot, Pakistan are staring at early elimination from the ten-team tournament. Hence, many former Pakistani cricketers have slammed the current lot for their ordinary bowling, fitness standards and not being as aggressive as other teams with the bat at the start.</p>

<p>Wasim Akram, Pakistan's legendary former pacer, ripped into Babar Azam &amp; Co. for their fitness levels after the Afghanistan defeat. Soon after the loss, he told A Sports, "It's embarrassing. Just 2 wickets, 280-290 is a big score. The pitch is wet or not wet. Fielding was... you look at the fitness levels. We have been discussing on this show that there has been no fitness test for the last 2 years. If I take the players' individual names, they won't like it. It looks like they are eating 8 kg of mutton every day."</p>

<p>He further added, "Now we have come to a stage, where we will pray, do ifs and buts, wait for other teams to lose, then we can reach the semi-finals."</p>

<p>Pakistan remain in the fifth spot (with four points) after the loss to Afghanistan. They have to win all their remaining four games -- against South Africa, Bangladesh, New Zealand and England -- to progress ahead.</p>

However, a fine knock from Pathum Nissanka (54) saw them in the driving seat throughout the chase as he led from the front. His innings consisted of nine fours and scored with a strike rate of more than 100.</p>

<p>Nissanka was later joined by Samarawickrama who then took matters into his own hands to help side to the win. <p>Australia opener David Warner smashed 163 in record opening stand with Mitchell Marsh (121) in the ODI World Cup as the five-time winners beat Pakistan by 63 runs on October 20 in Bengaluru. Warner was adjudged Player of the Match for his third 150+ score in the ODI World Cups as Australia shot to fourth place on the points table with two wins and two losses in four games.</p>

<p>Speaking on his innings after the game, Warner credited his ability to change gears easily and try to put the foot down after setting a platform.</p>

<p>"Yeah, look, for me, I think what I've established early on in my career is that 50 overs is a long time,” the southpaw said after the match. “And having played Test cricket, you actually can take that out there and change your gears quite easily.”</p>

<p>The attacking batter also credited Indian Premier League (IPL) for his success in the ODI cricket. Warner has been a stalwart in the IPL with his most successful stint coming with Sunrises Hyderabad.</p>

<p>“I think that's where in T20 cricket, I've learned a little bit as well to change my gears, especially in IPL. I learned a lot when I was playing for Sunrisers that you're able to have a lot more time than you think. And I think playing on these surfaces specifically, you know, if you give yourself time at the back end, you can actually score big. And that's what I felt today," he said.</p>

<p>The left-hand batter, however, agreed that the Australian team missed out posting in excess 400 after the 259-run opening stand between him and Marsh.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We missed a little bit with the bat. We set our platform up very, very well, and we didn't execute as well as we like as a batting unit to post what I thought – 400 was probably on the cards from where we were.”</p>

<p>“I think sometimes you just match up well against certain teams,” he said. “They’re going to bowl you good balls, and sometimes you're going to put away those good balls. But I think you just keep backing yourself," said Warner.</p>

<p>Australia next play Netherlands on October 25 in their fifth game of the tournament.</p>

ODI World Cup 2023: Kuldeep Yadav hails THESE TWO players for India's four consecutive wins

<p>Virat Kohli hit the winning six as India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets to get the fourth consecutive win in the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 19 in Pune. With the six, Kohli also completed his 48th ODI ton - one short of former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's world record of 49 ODI tons. Kohli, however, wasn't too sure about getting 100 and not taking singles to win the match as India needed just two runs with him batting on 97.</p>

<p>Kohli's partner in the middle, KL Rahul, however, persuaded him to to go for the century. "He [Kohli] was confused, he said it will not look too nice, not to take the single, it's still a World Cup, and it's still a big stage. 'I don't want to look like I am just trying to get the milestone'," Rahul told Star Sports after the match.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India romped past Bangladesh in match 17 of the CWC 2023 edition on Thursday (Oct 19) at the MCA Stadium in Pune. While everything continued to click for Team India as they beat the Bangla Tigers by seven wickets, chasing 257, all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya got injured during the proceedings. Being asked to bowl first, India did not start well with Bangladesh openers Tanzid Hasan (51) and Litton Das (66) adding over 50 runs for the first wicket. Thus, Rohit brought in Hardik in the ninth over but the 30-year-old sustained an ankle injury during the third ball.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hardik didn't bowl any further and was available to bat but India did not require his services courtesy of Virat Kohli's 103 not out and Shubman Gill's 53. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement on Friday (Oct 20) ruling him out of India's upcoming clash versus New Zealand on Sunday (Oct 22) in Dharamsala. Post this, former Australia opener-turned-commentator Matthew Hayden opined on Hardik's absence. He feels that there is a balance issue in the Indian line-up with no Hardik.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Hayden said, "No one in the world really. He that good an all-rounder at the moment, and when you think back into the history of the way he’s been performing, whenever he’s not playing for any team there is always a balance issue. He provides that great stability."</p>

I don’t think you can have Jadeja batting up the order, I feel that’s a fragility in the Indian batting line up. The best combination is to get a specialist batter in there, and that way then you have an option to pick a specialist seam bowler as well in Shami,” Hayden further asserted.</p>

<p>BCCI issued a statement on Friday saying, "Team India vice-captain Hardik Pandya sustained an injury to his left ankle while fielding on his own bowling during India’s match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. The all-rounder was taken for scans and is advised rest. He will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI Medical Team. He will not be taking the flight to Dharamsala with the team on 20<sup>th</sup>&nbsp;October and will now join the team directly in Lucknow where India play England."</p>

<p>Rohit-led India will hope for Hardik to regain full fitness as soon as possible and return for the England clash, in Lucknow, on Oct 29.&nbsp;</p>

He needed another three runs but India were in search of two more to complete the match when spinner&nbsp;Nasum Ahmed bowled one down the leg side. While it seemed a wide, umpire Richard Kettleborough didn't signal a wide. <p>Given Kohli had a wide-open stance to Nasum,&nbsp;this might have prompted Kettleborough to make a calculative judgment&nbsp;that the delivery could have connected with him had he not executed his characteristic lateral movement in the crease. Thus, the Englishman opted against calling the delivery a wide.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the Bangladesh win, India will now gear up to face New Zealand in Dharamsala on Sunday. Both sides are unbeaten so far with eight points each. NZ are at the top, followed by India, due to a superior Net Run Rate (NRR).</p>

<p>India was dealt with a big blow as all-rounder and vice-captain Hardik Pandya got injured during the team's ongoing clash versus Bangladesh in ICC ODI World Cup on Thursday (Oct 19) in Pune. After being asked to bowl first, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue were struggling to get rid of the Bangladeshi openers Litton Das and&nbsp;Tanzid Hasan when the captain turned to Hardik in the ninth over.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hardik did not start well,&nbsp;conceding two back-to-back&nbsp;boundaries after a dot ball. While conceding his second four, on the third delivery, he&nbsp;tried to stop the white cherry with his right leg in his follow through and slipped. He was on the ground for quite some time and attended by the team physio before getting up. Still struggling to run, the 30-year-old walked off the field with former captain Virat Kohli completing his over. Since then, Hardik has remained out of action.</p>

<p>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now provided a massive update on his injury. BCCI wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "Hardik Pandya's injury is being assessed at the moment and he is being taken for scans."</p>

<p>Since Hardik's departure, India have managed to tighten the screws of Bangladesh with regular breakthroughs. Litton (66) and Tanzid (51) have returned to the pavillion whereas the likes of stand-in captain&nbsp;Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz fell in quick succession with Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj&nbsp;and Kuldeep Yadav being among wickets.&nbsp;</p>

After being asked to bowl first, Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue were struggling to get rid of the Bangladeshi openers Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan when the captain turned to Hardik in the ninth over. Hardik did not start well, conceding two back-to-back boundaries after a dot ball. While conceding his second four, on the third delivery, he tried to stop the white cherry with his right leg in his follow through and slipped. He was on the ground for quite some time and attended by the team physio before getting up. Still struggling to run, the 30-year-old walked off the field with former captain Virat Kohli completing his over. Since then, Hardik has remained out of action. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now provided a massive update on his injury. BCCI wrote on X, formerly Twitter, "Hardik Pandya's injury is being assessed at the moment and he is being taken for scans." Litton (66) and Tanzid (51) have returned to the pavillion whereas the likes of stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz fell in quick succession with Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav being among wickets. Rohit-led India will, however, keep a close tab on Hardik's fitness as he is extremely vital for the team's balance. So far, the veteran has picked up five wickets in three games and is a vital cog in India's batting line-up as well.
