Pakistan suffered a humiliating eight-wicket loss at the hands of Afghanistan in match 22 of the CWC 2023 edition on Monday (Oct 23) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With this defeat, Pakistan have now lost three matches on the trot after a brilliant start to the ten-team tournament with two successive wins. Thus, they are now on the brink of an early elimination if they don't get their act together.
Captain Babar is under tremendous pressure after the loss. A lot has been said on his slow batting and captaincy after defeats to India, Australia and now Afghanistan. Post the defeat to the Afghans, Babar brushed aside any pressure of captaincy and batting on him.
'I try to give my best in batting. I am 100% and I have been doing that'
In the post-match press conference, Babar said, "As far as the captaincy is concerned, I don't have much pressure on me or on my batting. I try to give my best in batting. I am 100% and I have been doing that. During fielding, I think about captaincy and during batting I just think about the batting. How should I run and how I should run for the team."
With the Afghanistan defeat, things aren't looking bright for Pakistan who now have to win all their remaining four games. On their qualification chances, Babar opined, "You never know. It's cricket. Anything can happen. We will try to play our best cricket till the end. There are a lot of matches left, we will try to win all the matches. We will try to overcome our mistakes".

Babar highlightedthat Pakistan is missing injured Naseem Shah in their WC campaign but their main issue has been them not playing a complete game with equal contribution from all departments. "We are missing Naseem a lot. But apart from that, our bowling lineup is one of the best. But I think we are not able to click. Sometimes we do well in bowling, we don't do well in batting. When we do well in batting, we don't do it in fielding,” he added.
Pakistan's remaining games are against defending champions England, South Africa, New Zealand and Bangladesh. Thus, they won't have it easy in any of the upcoming games and have to revamp sooner than later.
