<p>After the loss, Babar said at the post-match presentation, "This hurts us. We had a good total. In the bowling, we aren't up to the mark because we are not taking wickets in the middle&nbsp;overs. In the World Cup, if you are not good in even one department, then you'll lose the match."</p>

<p>"In the field, we didn't stop boundaries and gave away runs, that cost us. Bowling - we started well, in the middle overs, we needed wickets but we couldn't take any wickets," said Babar&nbsp;about the shortcomings the team is facing.</p>

<p>"All credit to Afghanistan the way they played in all three departments. That's why they won. We are not playing good cricket in bowling and fielding. We'll try our best in the next match. We didn't hit the lengths in the middle overs, especially our spinners. We couldn't put pressure on the batters," he added.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, a jubilant Afghan skipper Shahidi said, "This win tastes nice. The way we chased was very professional. Looking forward for the other games. The way we chased today, we'll do it again. The quality cricket that we have been playing from the last couple of years, the belief was there when we were playing the Asia Cup also."</p>

<p>At the start of the tournament, I said that we want to make this tournament historic for our country people. First was England, today Pakistan, looking forward for the other games. We'll try our best to play positive&nbsp;cricket and do a lot for our country in this World Cup. The spin bowling department did very well. We gave a chance to Noor and trusted in him, he showed his talent. The way Gurbaz and Ibrahim started the innings, they gave that momentum and confidence. The game was in our hand from the beginning till the end. The last partnership that me and Rahmat played was also good."</p>

<p>Pakistan remain in the fifth spot (four points) after their third defeat on the trot whereas Afghanistan are now in the sixth position.</p>

<h2><strong>Afghan fans celebrate in Kabul</strong></h2>

<p>Fireworks lit up the Kabul sky while sweets were distributed in the streets as Rashid Khan and Co enjoyed their first ODI win against their former World Cup champion neighbours. Kids were seen dancing as fans showered their love and affection for the national side with messages. People gathered in the city center to celebrate.</p>

<p>Considering the occasion, Afghanistan were in total control of the match and showed great maturity in the 283-run chase. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65) and Ibrahim Zadran (87) laid the foundation for the win as they put together 130 runs for the opening wicket. This laid&nbsp;the perfect platform for victory as later Rahmat Shah (unbeaten 77) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (unbeaten 48) took the team past the winning target convincingly.<br />

<p>The win also saw them rise to sixth place in the standings in the ODI World Cup, now giving them a good chance of making the semifinals. Pakistan lost considerable ground in the Net Run Rate (NRR) and have dropped to fifth in the standings. This was also their third consecutive defeat in the league stage, having earlier lost to India and Australia.</p>

<p>Afghanistan will now look to continue their giant-killing form as they take on Sri Lanka and the Netherlands. If they do manage to win those fixtures coupled with poor results for other sides, they will have a good chance of making it to the semifinals.</p>

<p>Pakistan in the meantime will have a mountain to climb with fixtures against South Africa, New Zealand, and England on the cards. A defeat for them in two of those remaining four matches could see them exit the competition early.</p>

Opting to bat first, Babar Azam-led Men in Green posted 282 for 7 with Babar (74) and Abdullah Shafique (58) being the top-scorers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Afghanistan batters, after Noor Ahmed's 3 for 49 and two strikes from Naveen-ul-Haq, then completed the run-chase in 49 overs with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65), Ibrahim Zadran (87), Rahmat Shah (77*) and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (48*) standing tall. After the historic win, Afghanistan head coach and former English batter Jonathan Trott lauded his troops in an inspiring dressing room speech. He hailed the collective effort of the entire XI and asked them to enjoy the win but also get ready for the upcoming challenges.</p>

<p>Afghanistan fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has insisted that the recent string of high-profile victories against top-ranked teams in the World Cup will not impact his decision to retire from ODI cricket.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters after Afghanistan demolished arch-rivals Pakistan, Naveen said it was his final decision and that his career post the World Cup will lie&nbsp;in the T20 format.</p>

<p>"No, no, no. Not at all. That's my final decision I've made," said Naveen, adding:&nbsp;"Luckily, I will remember this World Cup for the rest of my life - beating Pakistan and beating England. I'm hoping for the best in the upcoming games."</p>

<p>The right-arm pacer, surprising the cricketing world, announced days before the start of the World Cup that he will be retiring following the conclusion of the quadrennial event.&nbsp;Naveen said the decision wasn’t an easy one but one he had to take to prolong his playing career.</p>

<p>"It has been an absolute honour to represent my country, and I would like to announce my retirement from the ODI format at the end of this World Cup and will continue to wear this blue jersey in T20 cricket for my country," Naveen wrote in his post.</p>

<p>"It&nbsp;does mean a lot to the people of our country back home.&nbsp;As you know, the situation back home…The earthquake also hit [in Herat] a few days ago. So, there's not a lot of happiness in the country without cricket. So, at least we've given them some moments of happiness tonight," he said.</p>

<p>One of the Pakistan fans who came down all the way from London for the game wasn`t able to enter the stadium in time as the gates had been closed. "We are going to watch a T10 game here because people without tickets were jumping over the gates and we couldn`t get in," the fan rued pointing at his young kids who had their bags checked.</p>

<p>While the security cordon tried its best to keep non-ticket holders away from the entrance, the large number of fans seemed hell-bent to enter the ground to witness the Afghanistan players in action against Pakistan. In fact, the worst part was that some of the fans who had tickets were forced to skip the game.</p>

<p>"As the captain and responsible person for the nation, I reserve the right to be part of the selection of the team. The selection committee and ACB has not obtained my consent for the team which has been announced by ACB media," Rashid said in a statement on Twitter.</p>

<p>"I am taking the decision of stepping down from the role as the captain of Afghanistan T20 side effective immediately. It`s Always my proud playing for Afghanistan," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Videos shared on social media showed supporters of both countries fighting outside the venue and security personnel being forced to intervene, while ESPNcricinfo reported that at least two fans had been evicted from the ground.</p>

<p>"We are aware of some scuffles among a minority of fans and are currently working with the venue security team and the local police force, West Yorkshire Police, to ensure there are no further incidents," an ICC spokesperson said.</p>

<p>"We do not condone this type of behaviour, and will take appropriate action against any anti-social behaviour that spoils the enjoyment for the majority of fans."</p>

<p>Local media reported that the trouble started when a plane towing the message 'Justice for Balochistan' flew over the venue. Balochistan is the largest province in Pakistan and borders Afghanistan to the north.</p>
