The value of the taxpayer-funded "golden goodbyes" given to MPs who lose their seats in the upcoming general election would more than treble, reaching £17,300. After losing their seats in the 2019 general election, MPs earned two months' pay, or roughly £8,600, but the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA), which oversees MPs' spending, has determined that should be extended to four months.

American Airlines has filed a lawsuit against Skiplagged over unauthorised and deceptive ticketing practices. Skiplagged is an online travel company that helps customers find cheaper flights by using a loophole.

The lawsuit states that Skiplagged has never had the authority to issue American Airlines tickets — only an American Airlines agent can, CBS News reported.

According to the airline, the travel agency has been using a loophole, where a passenger buys a cheaper ticket to a smaller airport with a layover at a bigger airport, even though they have no intention of boarding a second flight, this practice is called Hidden City Ticketing.

It further said that by using this flight booking method, Skiplagged violates AA.com use agreement and conditions, including its policy that states people who use its website must not act as an agent for anyone outside their family.

Skiplagged makes its customer enter their personal and payment information on its websites and then uses the information to book flights on the American website, the suit alleges.
During the lengthy trial on Thursday, Judge Mark Gamble called Leifer's offence "insidious," scaring the two sisters for life.
As per the judge, Leifer must serve 11 and half years in prison before she can be considered for early release. As soon as she is released from Victoria State Prison, she will be deported to Israel.

Donald Trump has declared that, on Thursday, he will turn himself in to face racketeering and other charges stemming from his bid to overturn the 2020 election. Writing on his platform Truth Social on Monday, Trump labelled the trial a 'Witch Hunt' and said that he would be "ARRESTED by a Radical Left District Attorney, Fani Willis," the Georgia official behind the fourth indictment against the former president.

Trump's day of reckoning looms as ex-US president declares intent to surrender on Thursday

Social media platform X, formerly Twitter, is set to undergo a significant alteration in the way news links are presented, marking another major shift led by its owner, Elon Musk, that could impact news publishers on the site.

The news initially surfaced via a report by Fortune on Monday (August 21), and it was subsequently confirmed by Elon Musk himself in a post later that day. Musk stated, "This is coming from me directly. Will greatly improve the aesthetics [sic]." Under this new approach, the platform will no longer display headlines and accompanying text from news links, showing only the primary image. This adjustment limits a user's ability to preview the content before clicking.

Presently, news links are presented on users' timelines as "cards," featuring an image, source address, and a condensed headline. This format has been effective in attracting clicks and helping publishers engage readers.

Encouraging premium service adoption

This alteration could be an effort to encourage more users to sign up for X's premium service. By truncating the links, users might be more inclined to include additional text with their posts. The premium service permits a single post to have up to 25,000 characters.

A recent Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) survey released on Tuesday has revealed distressing findings regarding care during pregnancy. One in five women in the United States has reported that she encountered mistreatment, including scoldings, during pregnancy and delivery care at the hands of the nation's health professionals.

Racial angle to the mistreatment

The CDC study found that this mistreatment was more prevalent among Black, Hispanic, and multiracial women, as well as those without private insurance coverage.

In a statement, Dr Debra Houry, the CDC's Chief Medical Officer, said that "These data show that we must do better to support moms."

Survey data shows that around 30 per cent of Black women, 29 per cent of Hispanic women, and 27 per cent of multiracial women reported mistreatment during their maternity care experiences.
