Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar thinks that CSK skipper MS Dhoni could be the head of Indian men cricket team in near future. Gavaskar, while speaking to Star Sports, said, “MS Dhoni could take over the coaching role (in the Indian team) a little bit later. I think that is how it should be. I do believe that you need a little bit of cooling off period before you take any assignment with the team (after retiring as a player)."

Gavaskar, however, opined that Dhoni should take the position, if he does, after a cooling-off period of 2-3 years.

Notably, Dhoni's retirement rumours are doing rounds ever since the current IPL season began. Recently, former India batter Mohammed Kaif also said that Dhoni is playing a mentor now rather than a player.

"Mahi is no longer playing as a player but as a mentor. He chooses the team. Let's get on the field. He does not tease the seniors much but keeps on teaching the youth all the time. He wants every player, playing under him, to perform well as it will make the team's job easier," Kaif said on Star Sports' Cricket Live.

Dhoni has also thanked crowd for multiple times for coming out wearing yellow jersey and supporting him wherever CSK has gone to play.

Notably, not even a single ball was bowled in these seven&nbsp;fixtures, but all of them were declared official matches as per cricketing rules. Thus, a total of 958 official games were held till the end of the 2022 edition,&nbsp;making this year's 42nd match IPL's 1,000th encounter.

Speaking after MI's historic win in IPL's landmark game, captain Rohit Sharma (who was also celebrating his 36th birthday and ten years as Mumbai's captain on Sunday evening), said, "Very pleasing to see how we chased this. Last game here also we came close to a similar target. We have the ability but need to back ourselves."

On David being regarded as the next Kieron Pollard, Rohit added, "Big shoes to fill, Polly for so many years won us so many championships. But Tim has so much ability and power. In the back end, having that power keeps the bowler thinking."

David, who struck a magnificent 14-ball 45* and ended the game with three straight sixes in the final over, stated, "We needed a result. Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni feels leaking runs in the Powerplay and at the death overs eventually put pressure on his team as CSK lost to Rajasthan Royals for the second time in IPL 2023 in Jaipur on Thursday. Dhoni, whose side was on a winning spree before this game, even praised RR’s opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a brilliant 77 and talked highly of young Matheesha Pathirana for his superb show with the ball in hand.&nbsp;

Rajasthan batted first, and the attacking pair of Jaiswal and Buttler made most of the conditions, hitting 86 for the first wicket, with most of the runs coming in the Powerplay overs – something MS Dhoni also addressed in the post-match presentation.&nbsp;

While Chennai made a comeback in the middle overs, picking up wickets and halting Rajasthan’s momentum, Dhurv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal put their foot on the gas and helped RR breach the 200-run-mark in Jaipur for the first time in IPL history.

"It was quite a bit above par score. The reason was the first six overs, we gave away too many in the first six. At the same time, the wicket was best to bat on at that period. Then our bowlers bowled well in the middle overs but even when we were finishing, there were a few edges that went for boundaries and that actually kept adding to the score. If I just go through it, maybe there were at least five or six boundaries with edges and that had a very big impact on the score. I think they got a par-plus score and we were not able to get a good start in the first six overs," MS Dhoni said during the post-match presser.

CSK’s x-factor, Matheesha Pathirana, went for 48 runs in his four overs, including 33 from the two overs he bowled in death; however, Dhoni feels despite these numbers, the young Sri Lankan was right on top of his game and bowled well instead.&nbsp;

"You have to accept it because you don't look at the scorecard. What you are looking at is how the ball was delivered, where it was and where the boundary went. These things help you take better decisions and I felt his bowling was very good, it was not like he bowled badly. Yes, there will be a few deliveries where the batsmen will play the big shot but other than that I think the scorecard doesn't really reflect how well he bowled," the CSK captain added.

He and Jos Buttler stitched an 86-run stand for the first wicket and were instrumental in creating the foundation of the RR innings. While Buttler was dismissed for 27, Jaiswal continued the onslaught that saw him score 8 fours and 4 sixes.

He was striking a strike rate of almost 180 as it also paved the way for him to enter the top five of the Orange Cap standings. He now has 304 runs in eight matches which contain three fifties and has been striking at a good rate.

At the end of 10 overs, RR is 100/1 with Jaiswal (61*) and Samson (5*) unbeaten at the crease.

As skipper Sanju Samson and Yashasvi threatened to build a huge partnership, Tushar Deshpande brought back CSK into the game. He first dismissed Sanju for a run-a-ball 17 after Ruturaj Gaikwad took a catch at long-on. In the next four balls, he also dismissed Yashasvi for a well-made 77 off 43 balls. His knock was laced with eight fours and four sixes. RR was at 132/3 in 13.5 overs.

At the end of 15 overs, RR was at 139/3, with Shimron Hetmyer (8*) and Dhruv Jurel (2*) unbeaten at the crease.

RR lost their finisher Shimron Hetmyer for 8 runs after he is clean bowled by Maheesh Theekshana while attempting to cut. RR is 146/4 in 16.1 overs.

With the help of a four from Devudutt Padikkal, RR reached the 150-run mark in 16.3 overs.
