While Babar is leading the national side in the marquee tournament, Pakistani media reports have claimed that PCB is actively looking to replace him with Shaheen Shah Afridi or Sarfaraz Ahmed, once the tournament ends.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

"I just don't like the lack of respect that Babar Azam is getting. I just think it's a disgrace that these stories are being leaked. The stories that Shaheen is going to be the captain and all that," Vaughan told Cricbuzz.&nbsp;

"Babar is a wonderful player, he has been fantastic for Pakistan, and fantastic for the world game. This kind of stories in the middle of the World Cup...leave it to the end."

Babar-led Pakistan has been put under the pump since the start of the tournament. The team has only won two matches while losing four. Any other loss would mean an end to the World Cup campaign which could get the knives out for Babar's captaincy.&nbsp;

"If at the end of the World Cup, you think that he is not the right person to take Pakistan, I can understand, you are allowed to make that decision. But during the World Cup, the kind of gossip coming from your board and people within Pakistan cricket, I find that really disrespectful," added Vaughan.&nbsp;

Ahead of the fifth and final Ashes Test&nbsp;at The Oval, London, Australian opener David Warner reacted to former England skipper Michael Vaughan's speculation on his Test retirement. Vaughan recently claimed that he heard rumours that both Warner and Steve Smith will announce their retirement from the format after The Oval Test.

<h2>'No, not at all'</h2>

Talking to the reporters at The Oval, Warner said, "No, not at all," when asked if he was mulling Test retirement after Ashes 2023. "I haven't seen anything…I don't have an announcement. For me it's about trying to work hard in the nets as I did today and if selected, go out there and play and try and win an Ashes series," he opined.

The Ashes 2023 has not been a memorable series&nbsp;for Warner. After four Tests, he has a top score of 66 and averages a poor 25.12. He will be desperate to make it count in the final Test with Pat Cummins &amp; Co. having a golden opportunity to win their first-ever away Ashes series since 2001 (they have already retained the urn with a 2-1 lead after the drawn Test in Manchester).

Warner &amp; Co. will take inspiration from their performance at The Oval, when they beat India in the WTC final, in early June, to win the coveted Test mace.

After winning the WTC final at The Oval, Australia will be on cloud nine if they also win Ashes 2023 at the same venue versus Ben Stokes &amp; Co. "Hopefully, we can go away with a series win and then that'll be a fitting Ashes campaign for us and a fitting tour over here in England with the World Test Championship as well,"&nbsp;Warner added.

It will be interesting to see if Warner retains his place in the playing XI. On his Test retirement, the left-hander had&nbsp;revealed, in June, that he wishes to play his last game&nbsp;on his home ground, i.e. the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), versus Pakistan in January 2024.

Former English captain Michael Vaughan has put his fingers on England’s ‘sentimental selection’ of James Anderson in the fourth Test in Manchester as one of the reasons Australia got away with the draw and retained the Ashes. Vaughan said picking Anderson over Josh Tongue may have cost England the chance to win back the urn for the first time since 2015.

England’s veteran seamer Anderson was rested for the third Test in Leeds following mediocre outings in the first two games. He, however, was brought in for Ollie Robinson for perhaps his final Ashes Test at his home venue at Old Trafford. That move didn’t pay dividends as the right-arm seamer returned with one for 81 in 37 across both innings – that also of Pat Cummins caught at cover.

Speaking on BBC's Ashes Daily podcast, Vaughan said Anderson’s selection doesn’t look right in hindsight, as England could have instead opted for Josh Tongue, who even starred with the ball during the Lord’s game.

"We all agreed that James Anderson deserved to have that sentimental pick because he's a legend of the game, but it may have cost England," Vaughan said.

"Josh Tongue is a young quick who has created impact in that one game that he has played, and I know the Australians don't like facing him.

"Jimmy, in the three Test matches that he's played in this series, has just had no impact at all. I don't remember him getting a key wicket at any stage, and that's very unlike Jimmy Anderson,” Vaughan added.

<h2>Anderson lacked ‘that zip’</h2>

Vaughan opined unlike in the past, Anderson missed ‘the zip’ that used to traumatise batters from across the world in these conditions. The ex-batter added Chris Woakes, who got his first Ashes game in the third Test, bowled better with the Dukes Ball – something Anderson failed to replicate.

"Chris Woakes has almost showed us what can be done with the Dukes ball when you've got that zip because he's been going over the top with the seam, and it's just been doing enough," Vaughan said.

"It's been wobble seam and a bit more action off the surface at a similar pace. It's not like Chris has been bowling three or four mph quicker than Jimmy. For whatever reason, Jimmy's not been getting that kiss off the surface that we've seen for many, many years," Vaughan added.

Meanwhile, in three matches, Anderson picked just four wickets at over 76, and now for the final Test at the Kia Oval that starts on July 27, the veteran bowler will fight for a place in XI with Robinson.

His name was also dragged in the Azeem Rafiq racism case. A lot was said and written about Vaughan using racist language towards Rafiq and&nbsp;other South Asian players in 2009. While he was cleared of making racist comments, Moeen's tweet and others came back to haunt him; presented&nbsp;as evidence against him&nbsp;by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Moeen feels Vaughan has a role to play in combating racism in the gentlemen's game.

A win for CSK against GT on Tuesday, May 23 will see them reach the final on May 28 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. A defeat for them will still have another chance to make the final four as they will qualify for Qualifier 2.

Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma bagged two wickets each as Gujarat Titans restricted Chennai Super Kings to 172/7 in 20 overs at MA Chidambaram Stadium in the first qualifier match of the league. Ruturaj Gaikwad top scored for CSK scoring 60 from 44 balls.

Put into bat, Chennai Super Kings lost the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad with only five runs on the board. Darshan Nalkande got the wicket of Gaikwad but his celebration was short-lived as umpire called it a no ball. After that, Gaikwad and Devon Conway batted well and helped CSK put on 49 without the loss of any wicket in the first six overs of powerplay.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan was the only one of the seven players initially charged to appear at the hearing, and was cleared of using racist language "on the balance of probabilities".

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said Ballance, who retired from cricket last month, should be fined £8,000 and requested an eight-week suspension.

The ECB took into account the fact the 33-year-old had admitted the charge, and apologised, as it gave its recommendations to the panel.

"We understand there has been a significant impact on Mr Ballance's mental health, and that in April 2023, Mr Ballance announced his retirement from professional cricket," said ECB lawyer Jane Mulcahy. "So, the ECB therefore suggests there be a reprimand, and Mr Ballance be fined £8,000, reduced from £12,500 to take in effect of his admissions."

The ECB also recommended the former Test batter attend a racism and discrimination course.

Ballance's lawyer, Craig Harris, argued the financial penalty should be reduced due to the cost of being involved in the proceedings -- he lost his job as a player at Yorkshire, lost a sponsorship contract, and was not considered for England selection.

Harris also pointed to the established culture in the Yorkshire dressing room, including widespread use of a racial slur, and said Zimbabwe-born Ballance was himself the subject of discriminatory remarks.

He said: "This is not a case where Mr Ballance says the words were not discriminatory, or that he has some sort of intellectual deficit. It is accepted he ought to have known better.

"But they (rules) were breached by someone living and playing within a culture in which the use of such language had become normalised."

The ECB recommended a range of punishments for the five other players facing charges, including fines and suspensions.

Yorkshire have admitted to four charges including a "failure to address systemic use of racist and/or discriminatory language over a prolonged period". The sanctions against the club are expected to be announced next month.

CDC chairman Tim O'Gorman said it would take several weeks before the full decisions were made.

Former Scotland international John Blain, one of the players charged, described the outcome of proceedings against him as a "depressingly predictable and wholly unjust decision" as he launched a GoFundMe page in a bid to clear his name through legal action.

"Despite being entirely innocent of these allegations, I was advised by my lawyers to withdraw from the inadequate ECB process, due to its many fundamental flaws," he said in a statement. "The evidence given was one-sided, partial and in some areas, simply untrue -- I have never used such language."

"The only change that they could make in English conditions, is that KL Rahul plays the moving ball better than Shubman Gill. Shubman's a tremendous young player, but you've got to win that one game of cricket. Forget history, it's about picking the best XI to win the World Test Championship. When it's straight, Shubman is a dangerous player but I've seen a few little technical deficiencies. When the ball moves, he takes his hand little bit too much towards the ball. He snicks off quite consistently," explained the fomer English cricketer.

Notably, India dropped KL Rahul from the Playing XI during the Border-Gavaskar Test series following a string of low scores. Rahul scored only 38 runs in three innings of two Tests he was part of with a high score of 20. His replacement Gill, meanwhile, fared much better as he scored 154 runs in three innings of two Tests, including a century.

As of now, Shubman Gill seems a lock in the Playing XI for the WTC Final starting June 7, but things could be changed any moment and for better or for worse.

Rafiq, a player of Pakistani descent who has said English cricket is institutionally racist, alleged that&nbsp;Vaughan&nbsp;told him and other players of Asian origin that there were "too many of you lot, we need to do something about it" before a match in 2009.&nbsp;Vaughan&nbsp;strongly denied the allegation.

The CDC said its panel "was not satisfied on the balance of probabilities" that&nbsp;Vaughan&nbsp;said the words "at the time and in the specific circumstances alleged".

The panel added its findings "do not in any way undermine the wider assertions" made by Rafiq. Vaughan, who played for Yorkshire between 1993 and 2009, was one of seven individuals charged by the ECB with using racist or discriminatory language. He was the only defendant who participated in the CDC hearing.

"I truly hope people can understand why, on a personal level, I could not just accept, or apologise for, something which I know I did not do... At times, this process has brought me to the brink of falling out of love with cricket."

The panel upheld some charges against former Yorkshire players Tim Bresnan, John Blain, Matthew Hoggard, Andrew Gale and Richard Pyrah, all of whom withdrew from the proceedings. Yorkshire and former player Gary Ballance were not required to attend the hearing after accepting their charges. The racism scandal rocked English cricket and led to numerous changes in coaching and administrative personnel at the club.

India's stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya said the team doesn't need to prove anything to anyone while responding to Michael Vaughan's criticism of the Men in Blue. The former England captain labelled India as the most underperforming team in white-ball cricket after their disappointing loss against England in the semi-final of the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2022.

India were the table-toppers in Group 2 in the Super 12 stage being the only team to have won four out of their five matches but failed to cross the final hurdle in the semi-finals. Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. suffered a crushing 10-wicket defeat in the semi-final against England where they failed to defend a total of 178 runs.

In his column for The Telegraph, Vaughan criticised India's approach in white-ball cricket and said the talent their performances on the pitch don't justify the kind of talent they have at their disposal. The former England captain urged India to take inspiration from England's white-ball template while calling them the biggest underperformers.

"India are the most underperforming white-ball team in history. I am just staggered by how they play T20 cricket for the talent they have. They have the players, but just do not have the right process in place. They have to go for it. Why do they give the opposition bowlers the first five overs to bed in," Vaughan wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

Hardik was recently asked about Vaughan's comments during the pre-match press conference ahead of the start of the T20I series between India and New Zealand. The stand-in skipper said the team is aware that there is room for improvement but they don't need to prove anything to anyone.

"Obviously when you don't do well, people will have their opinion, which we respect. I understand people have different points of view. Being at the international level, I don't think we need to prove anything to anyone. It's a sport, you keep trying to get better and eventually when the result is supposed to happen it will happen. There are things we need to work on, going forward we will rectify and work on them," Hardik said reacting to Vaughan's comments.

Hardik, who led his team Gujarat Titans to their maiden title in their debut campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 earlier this year, has been touted by many as the future captain of India in T20Is. Hardik&nbsp;led India for the first time on their tour of Ireland earlier this year and will be leading the team against New Zealand in the upcoming T20I series.

The first T20I between the two teams will be played in Wellington on Friday and India will be hoping to get off to a winning start while brushing aside their disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup 2022.

However, former England captain Vaughan has urged him to stay away from the game for some time. Vaughan believes Kohli can easily look at having a career of around 20 years in international cricket and taking away 3 months from that for his own game&nbsp;won't do much harm.

"I look at Virat in particular. I knew he had a little bit of a rest at the end of the IPL. But he just looks to me like he needs a sabbatical. He looks like he needs three months away from cricket. Go and sit on a beach."Go and do what you can with your family because a career of 20 years, which he probably will end up getting because he's such a good player..
