Experts sceptic over purported 'alien' bodies: 'Many elements made no sense'

A pair of 'alien' corpses were displayed in front of the Mexican Congress. A UFO researcher says the specimen is not part of our 'terrestrial evolution'. Experts have even found 'eggs' inside one of the bodies. How will the U.S. government react to this?

Gravitas: Non-human 'Alien' corpses in Mexico

The Mexico Congress hosted an unusual event that could potentially be described as a watershed moment in the history of human civilisation and further propel interest in aliens and UFOs.

Close on the heels of US Congress holding a public&nbsp;hearing on the possibilities of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), now named Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, the Mexican legislature, too, for the first time held a similar event, a public hearing.

The event was led by Mexican journalist and 'ufologist' Jaime Maussan, who has been investigating the extraterrestrial phenomenon for decades, and co-hosted by Mexican scientists. Maussan presented his facts before the Congress ‘under oath’.

On Tuesday (Sept 13), two corpses believed to be of “non-human” alien species were displayed in the Congress during the public hearing. It was claimed that these corpses are at least 1,000 years old.

Among the attendees was Ryan Graves, a former US Navy pilot and Executive Director of Americans for Safe Aerospace, who claimed to have encountered such sightings during his flights.

These mummified specimens were kept in windowed boxes for all to see. They were allegedly retrieved from Cusco, Peru.

Mexico might soon witness a historic event, especially with presidential polls nearing the country is expected to elect its first female president. The politics that until two decades ago was completely dominated by men now has a majority of female leadership.

Stage being set for Mexico to have its first female president

Mexico is all set to get its first female president as the country’s ruling party chose Claudia Sheinbaum as its candidate for next year’s presidential election.

The 61-year-old former Mexico City mayor is considered a close ally of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who won’t be able to get re-elected again.

She has been tipped to be the favourite among the candidates to helm the top post according to a national poll organised by the ruling leftist National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) party.

“Today the Mexican people decided,” a smiling Sheinbaum told supporters to shouts of “president, president, president,” at a press conference where she was declared MORENA candidate, according to Reuters news agency.

“We will win in 2024,” Sheinbaum, a&nbsp;climate scientist-turned-politician, said.

The major opposition coalition had already chosen another woman, Xóchitl Gálvez, a sitting senator in the Mexican Congress, as its standard-bearer.

Now, two women — Sheinbaum, a physicist and former university professor, and Gálvez, 60, a successful tech entrepreneur — are set to face off in an election scheduled for June 2 next year.

<h2>Internal poll compromised?</h2>

The nomination from MORENA came on Wednesday amidst a blow-up inside the party after Sheinbaum’s competitor Marcelo Ebrard alleged “faults” in the primary process even before final results were announced.

The former foreign minister sought a rerun of the internal polling which handed Sheinbaum her victory.&nbsp;“I never thought I would live [to see] something like this in my own party,” Ebrard wrote on social media platform X.

But party leaders were quick to defend the process.

"There is no incident that has affected the final result in a definitive manner," said Alfonso Durazo, president of Morena's national board, according to the AFP news agency.

"The result of this process is definitive."

In the internal polling, Sheinbaum got an average of 39.4 per cent of the votes in five polls, Morena said.

Ebrard was second with 25.8 per cent. He was the only one of the six Morena candidates who did now show up for the unveiling of the results.

The internal polling process was widely seen as the country’s transition to transparency and public participation due to Mexico’s past incidents where presidents had the habit of handpicking their successors.

However, neither process went smoothly.

Mexico set to get first female president after ruling party names candidate

Mexico Supreme Court has decriminalised abortion. Meanwhile in U.S. Texas, local 'trafficking' is making it a crime to transport anyone to get an abortion on roads within the city or county limits. Priyanka Sharma tells you more.

In a landmark judgement, the Supreme Court of Mexico decriminalised abortion on Thursday (September 7) across the country.

“The First Chamber of the Court ruled that the legal system that penalises abortion in the Federal Criminal Code is unconstitutional since it violates the human rights of women and people with the capacity to gestate,” said the Supreme Court on social media.

The judgement follows a similar ruling two years ago that stated abortion is not a crime. That declaration came after a constitutional challenge to the northern state of Coahuila's penal code, which gave women access to abortion without fear of prosecution in the country.

The Information Group on Reproductive Choice (GIRE), which has been carrying out campaigns for abortion rights, welcomed the step of decriminalising abortion at the national level.

It said that the court concluded that the federal penal code's portion which criminalises abortion is no longer effective. “No woman or pregnant person, nor any health worker will be able to be punished for abortion,” said the group, in a statement.

"Federal health institutions throughout the country will have to provide abortion services to women and people with the capacity to gestate who request it," said the group, on social media.

<h2>Decriminalisation of abortion in Mexican states</h2>

Previously, abortion was decriminalised in a dozen Mexico states, with the capital Mexico City becoming the first to do so in 2007.

But, along with the lack of facilities for carrying out the procedure, "many women don't know that they have this right because local governments have not carried out publicity campaigns about it," said women's rights activist Sara Lovera.

"That's why today's decision of the Supreme Court is important," Lovera said while speaking to AFP.

The central state of Aguascalientes last week became the 12th state to decriminalise the procedure. Judges in states&nbsp;where abortion has been criminalised, will have to consider the ruling of the top court.

The court gave the decision amid a trend of decreasing restrictions on abortion in the country, even though the procedure's access remains limited in parts of the United States. Some American women have already been taking help from Mexican abortion activists to get the pills used for ending their pregnancies.

Throughout Latin America, countries have taken steps to lift abortion restrictions in the last few years, which has been called a “green wave”.

Mexico's Supreme Court decriminalises abortion across country

Mexico's Supreme Court has once again taken a bold step towards securing abortion rights for women. Nationwide it has struck down a federal law criminalizing abortion. This reaffirms the 2021 ruling that the criminal penalty for abortion is unconstitutional.

"I will find you, and I will kill you" are the iconic words from the movie Taken in which Liam Neeson's character assures the kidnappers of his daughter that some&nbsp;major damage is coming their way, all in a matter-of-fact tone but with an underlying&nbsp;menace of a thousand wounded&nbsp;tigers.

A mother in Mexico embarked on a somewhat similar mission after her daughter was kidnapped. &nbsp;

Miriam Rodriguez's 20-year-old daughter Karen Alejandra Salinas Rodríguez went missing in 2012.

She was unhappy with the shoddy investigation work by the authorities and decided to start an investigation of her own.

Taking great efforts, Miriam narrowed down the search to 'Los Zetas', one of the most dangerous gangs in Mexico.

On continuing the investigation, Miriam narrowed down to a handful of gang members who she thought were involved in her daughter's disappearance.

Her investigation was a huge and sustained effort on her part as she assumed fake identities and used disguises to roam in the murky and dangerous, underworld.

Once she even cornered one of the gang members and held a gun against him to say "If you move, I'll shoot you"

Unfortunately though, when her leads took him to her daughter, she found that she had already been killed. But Miriam continued her mission to bring the culprits to justice.

Some of the gang members had even moved on from their criminal lives and were holding respectable jobs. Miriam rounded them up and handed them to the police.

In all, she was able to catch 10 members of 'Los Zetas' and get them arrested.

"I will find you, and I will kill you" are the iconic words from the movie Taken in which Liam Neeson's character assures the kidnappers of his daughter that some major damage is coming their way, all in a matter-of-fact tone but with an underlying menace of a thousand wounded tigers.

"I will find you, and I will kill you" are the iconic words from the movie Taken in which Liam Neeson's character assures the kidnappers of his daughter that some major damage is coming their way, all in a matter-of-fact tone but with an underlying menace of a thousand wounded tigers. A mother in Mexico embarked on a somewhat similar mission after her daughter was kidnapped. Once she even cornered one of the gang members and held a gun against him to say "If you move, I'll shoot you" Unfortunately though, when her leads took him to her daughter, she found that she had already been killed. But Miriam continued her mission to bring the culprits to justice. Some of the gang members had even moved on from their criminal lives and were holding respectable jobs. Miriam rounded them up and handed them to the police. In all, she was able to catch 10 members of 'Los Zetas' and get them arrested. "I don’t care if they kill me," Miriam claimed. "I died the day they killed my daughter. "I want to end this. I’m going to take out the people who hurt my daughter and they can do whatever they want to me." She was quoted by LadBIble. Mexico: Bus transporting mostly Venezuelan migrants crashes, 16 dead

After making landfall in Mexico on Sunday, tropical storm Hilary now unleashes vicious wind gusts and heavy rain across California.

Tropical Storm Hilary brings flooding to Southern California

After making landfall in Mexico on Sunday tropical storm Hillary is now unleashing wind gusts and heavy rain across California warning of catastrophic and potentially deadly floods. The officials urged residents to take precautions as it would be the state's first tropical storm in 84 years.

Hurricane Hillary is moving from Mexico to the southwest of the United States, and many places will experience heavy rainfall. According to the U.S. National Hurricane Center, Hilary, a powerful Category-4 hurricane, churned about 325 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Friday afternoon with sustained winds of 130 mph with stronger gusts.

Hurricane Hilary heads for Mexico and California

Tropical storm Hurricane Hilary strengthened into a Category 3 hurricane on Thursday (Aug 17) as US weather experts expect it to bring heavy rainfall to parts of Southwest America after hitting Mexico.

By Thursday morning, Hurricane Hilary was located 530 miles (852 kilometres) southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour, with higher gusts—an environment ripe for rapid intensification.

“Rapid strengthening is forecast, and Hilary could become a major hurricane by tonight or early Friday,” the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said recently.

As it continues to move in a west-northwest direction, Hilary is forecast to become a major Category 4 hurricane by late Thursday night or early Friday morning, US-based The Weather Channel reported.

But if it makes landfall in the US, the weather forecasters expect the hurricane to weaken.

<h2>California could see heavy showers</h2>

However, heavy rains are projected, especially in California, where several months’ worth of rain could fall in just one or two days, potentially causing flash flooding.

If Hilary makes landfall in California as a tropical storm, it'll be the first one in 84 years, CBS News reported.

And by Saturday and Sunday, the hurricane is expected to rapidly weaken as it moves over colder waters.

The NHC said that the storm may bring high winds, surf, and rain to southern California, and parts of Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico could also be affected.

The effects of the storm may start to be seen as early as Friday through the start of next week. The heaviest rainfall from Hilary within the United States is expected to peak on Sunday and Monday, according to&nbsp;NHC.

A climate scientist at the University of California at Los Angeles, Daniel Swain, told CNN that “multiple years’ worth of precipitation” could potentially fall in some of California’s driest areas.

Regardless of the flood danger, experts believe that the rainfall would combat drought and recharge groundwater across arid portions of the Southwest.

Drought conditions expanded in New Mexico and remained steady in California and Arizona this week, the US Drought Monitor reported Thursday.

California braces for impact as Hurricane Hilary approaches after hitting Mexico

The International Whaling Commission (IWC) issued an extinction alert for the endangered vaquita porpoise on Monday, whose population, as per reports, is estimated to have plummeted to less than a dozen.

This is the institution's first-ever extinction warning.

The alarmingly endangered vaquita, which is also the world's most miniature porpoise and aboriginal to Mexico's Gulf of California, has been threatened by illegal gill net fishing for an endangered fish called the totoaba, whose bladder is highly valued in Asia.

Mexico's government has been under constant pressure to ramp up efforts in order to crack down on the practice.

In a report, the IWC's scientific committee underlined an 83% decline in the vaquita's population between the years 2015 and 2018 to only nine or 10 of the marine animals in total.

The alert, as per the IWC, arises from its belief that a new mechanism is needed "to voice extinction concerns for an increasing range of cetacean species and populations."

However, the institution said that it believes that full enforcement of the ban on gill netting in the animal's core habitat could give the vaquita "a chance of recovery."

"The extinction of the vaquita is inevitable unless 100% of gillnets are substituted immediately with alternative fishing gears that protect the vaquita and the livelihoods of fishers," it said.

In the month of May, the United States interior secretary declared that Mexico failed in making efforts to put an end to the illegal wildlife trade threatening the vaquita, but a trade ban was ruled out by the US government in the month of July.

Six Indians among 18 dead in bus accident in Mexico

A dead body was discovered floating in the controversial floating barriers which were installed by the authorities in Texas to block migrants from crossing into the United States, said the Mexican government on Wednesday (August 2).&nbsp;

Mexico was informed by the government authorities in the United States that "they found the body of a lifeless person stuck in the southern part of the buoys" on the Rio Grande river, said the Mexican foreign ministry in a statement.

The ministry added that the nationality of the victim and the cause of death is not known.&nbsp;

The Mexican ministry stated, “We are concerned about the impact on migrants’ human rights and personal security that these state policies could have, as they go in the opposite direction to close collaboration.”

The buoys were installed in the river by the authorities at a crossing point&nbsp;which is popular among migrants&nbsp;in July over the instructions of Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The buoys were installed along with large razor-wire barriers on shore.&nbsp;

The Texas government, while installing the barrier in July, had stated that the buoys would “help deter illegal immigrants attempting to make the dangerous river crossing into Texas”.

<h2>US envoy calls anti-migrant river buoys 'illegal'&nbsp;</h2>

US ambassador to the Latin American country on Thursday (August 3) called the floating barrier, which was installed by the authorities of Texas to stop migrants crossing the border from Mexico, &nbsp;'illegal'.&nbsp;

"It seems to me that what Texas is doing is illegal. But they are also doing it to make migration a political issue, and not a humanitarian and economic issue," said Ken Salazar, while speaking to the reporters.

The US Justice Department, in response, filed a lawsuit in a federal court, stating that the buoys were illegally installed to obstruct river navigation and lacked federal authorisation.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador stated that the sovereignty of the country has been violated by the barriers.&nbsp;

A dead body was discovered floating in the controversial floating barriers which were installed by the authorities in Texas to block migrants from crossing into the United States, said the Mexican government on Wednesday (August 2). Mexico was informed by the government authorities in the United States that "they found the body of a lifeless person stuck in the southern part of the buoys" on the Rio Grande river, said the Mexican foreign ministry in a statement. The ministry added that the nationality of the victim and the cause of death is not known. The buoys were installed along with large razor-wire barriers on shore. The Texas government, while installing the barrier in July, had stated that the buoys would “help deter illegal immigrants attempting to make the dangerous river crossing into Texas”. US envoy calls anti-migrant river buoys 'illegal' US ambassador to the Latin American country on Thursday (August 3) called the floating barrier, which was installed by the authorities of Texas to stop migrants crossing the border from Mexico, 'illegal'. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador stated that the sovereignty of the country has been violated by the barriers. Mexico's vibrant remittance ecosystem is one of the biggest in the world. It supports millions of families and is now under severe pressure. Watch this report for more.

Increase in Peso's value & rising inflation disrupt remittances

Mexico's vibrant remittance ecosystem, one of the world's largest, supporting millions of families, is now facing severe pressure due to a significant increase in the value of the Mexican peso and rising inflation, disrupting lives for many in the country.

With Mexico receiving nearly $60 billion in remittances annually, primarily from the United States, these financial transfers play a crucial role in household spending in the nation.&nbsp;

The Mexican peso has surged by more than 14 percent against the U.S. dollar this year. Just a year ago, it traded at around 20.40 pesos per dollar, but on Friday, it reached a seven-and-a-half-year high of 16.63 pesos per dollar.

The&nbsp;strengthening of peso can be attributed to factors such as higher interest rates and the relocation of manufacturing capacity to the region, impacting remittances in Mexico.

Mexicans face remittance&nbsp;challenges&nbsp;

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's substantial investment in social assistance programs and encouragement for countrymen to send funds back to Mexico have made consumer spending a pillar of economic development since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Reuters quoted Carlos Serrano, the head economist at BBVA Mexico, as saying that the strengthening peso has worsened the buying power of remittances, particularly affecting lower-income families in states that receive the majority of remittances.

Headline inflation, which had reached a peak of 8.7 percent last summer, has since decreased to less than half that rate. However, core inflation remains two percentage points higher, leading the central bank to maintain interest rates at 11 percent, creating pressure for borrowers.

Despite remittances to Mexico heading for another record year, it presents a challenge for the Spanish-speaking country. &nbsp;Reuters quoted Pablo Lopez Sarabia, an economist at Tecnologico de Monterrey, as saying that the rise in remittances indicated that some Mexicans are sending more money to tackle the impact of inflation.
