According to a letter he sent to the coffee chain employees, Narasimhan will be trying his hand at being a barista and will work at Starbucks stores half a day every month. As part of his training before taking over as CEO of Starbucks, he reportedly underwent a six months "immersive" training experience where he also learnt how to be a barista.

"I have learned so much about the retail experience from working in our stores."

Five pages long and divided into short, medium and long-term aims, the secret document goes into detail about how to bring Moldova into the Russian sphere of influence.

Medium-term goals talk of opposing "the expansionist policy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova" and the "cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and NATO."

Long-term goals include the "creation of stable pro-Russian groups of influence in the Moldovan political and economic elites" and forming of negative attitudes towards NATO.

Reportedly, Kremlin has denied any knowledge of the secret plans to destabilise Moldova. As per CNN, when asked about the FSB document, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that they "know nothing of the existence of such a plan," and remarked that it may be "another fake."

"I do not rule out that this is another fake. Russia has always been and remains open to building good-neighbourly, mutually beneficial relations, including with Moldova," he said, labelling Moldovan&nbsp;leadership's concerns as "completely unjustified and unfounded prejudices against Moscow."

"We are very sorry that the current leadership of Moldova is experiencing completely unjustified and unfounded prejudices against Moscow."

He further claimed that he was fired for complaining about the perilous working conditions.

Simon claims to have reported the unsafe working conditions several times. The former Tesla employee, as per a complaint filed with the Boston federal court, claims that he urged the management to install air conditioning and that he kept escalating the requests.&nbsp;

Instead, Simon was penalised for his complaints. Bloomberg reports that the manager was stripped of three of the eight dealerships under his supervision. After he kept pushing for the ACs, he was eventually "fired in retaliation," the pretext "Tesla concocted involving his use of a company vehicle."

Every morning at dawn, sleepy teenagers can be seen "trudging zombie-like" through the streets of Indonesia. The sleep-deprived teenagers have become reluctant participants of a new controversial experiment that attempts to get their days off to a much earlier start.&nbsp;The pilot project is taking place in Kupang, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara province.&nbsp;Under it, twelfth-graders from 10 high schools have been starting classes early in the morning, 5:30 am to be precise.

Netizens too are not too pleased with the experiment. As one Twitter user puts it "Yikes".

Another user ColminIndonesia has suggested school clubs to increase productivity, they wrote, the "early bird catches the worm - but only if it's light enough to see the worm and the bird is not half asleep already. This pilot initiative goes too far, does more harm than good. It should stop. Better to run productive after school clubs instead."

Speaking to AFP, Robot said that the 5:30 am classes scheme has "no correlation with the effort to improve the quality of education." He said that it can cause sleep deprivation, which can affect their health and behaviour.&nbsp;

"They will only sleep for a few hours and this is a serious risk for their health. This also will cause them stress and they will vent their stress by acting out," he said.

In spite of the criticism, authorities have maintained the experiment. It has actually been extended to the local education agency, due to which the agency's civil servants now also start their day at 5:30 am.&nbsp;

"I'm afraid that reaching our growth target of around five per cent will be no easy task, and will require that we redouble our efforts," said the China premier at a press conference held to mark the closing of the National People's Congress (NPC).

Li is a close ally and longtime confidant of China's President Xi Jinping and was appointed to the nation's second most powerful post last week during the annual session of Beijing's "rubber-stamp" parliament.

"Li might be quite capable, and may make a good premier, but it is hard to see how he got there other than through Xi's personal favour," he added.

Some even see Li’s loyalty to Xi as an impediment to making his mark in solving the problems China faces. They say that his appointment may serve as a way for President Xi to assert his own economic agenda.

According to Steve Tsang, director of the SOAS China Institute, despite being the president's "trusted lieutenant", the new premier's ability to push through policies is still limited.

"Xi will give Li Qiang more scope to run the State Council, but on the basis that Li Qiang will do what Xi wants and not go beyond the perimeter set by Xi," he remarked.

<h2>What is expected of Li Qiang's premiership?</h2>

"The leadership has already accepted two years of exceptionally weak economic growth in the name of COVID containment. Now that containment is gone, they won’t accept another," added Beddor.

For the first time in 25 years of its survey, the American Chamber of Commerce in China found that China is no longer seen as a "top three investment priority". The results were based on a survey of companies,&nbsp;the majority of which said this.

In recent years, some of Beijing’s most successful private firms like Alibaba have been battered by abrupt crackdowns and regulatory hurdles.

Even as China tries to present a business-friendly face, in the face of global headwinds and weak confidence among consumers and the private sector, Li will have to work hard to restore confidence.

Canada's last captive killer whale, dubbed "the loneliest whale in the world" has died. Kiska, the 47-year-old Orca whale, as per local media reports, died on Thursday (March 9) of bacterial infection. The lonely mammal spent the last four decades of her life in captivity, with more than 12 of those (since 2011) in isolation. Kiska was a resident of Marineland, a zoo and amusement park in Niagara Falls.&nbsp;

Kiska, the 'world's loneliest whale', was captured in 1979 from Icelandic waters along with Keiko the whale, who went on to star in the movie 'Free Willy'. She spent her earlier captive life in various marine parks before ending up in the Canadian amusement park.

Kiska outlived all five of her calves, who sadly died before even reaching five years of age. In the wild, orcas, on average, have a life expectancy of 30 to 50 years. For males, the maximum life expectancy is 60 years, while for females it is 80 years.

As India's top court readies to hear a batch of pleas seeking validation for same-sex marriages, the nation's central government has submitted an affidavit opposing the step. The centre in its affidavit reportedly told the Supreme Court (SC) that same-sex relationships and heterosexual relationships are clearly distinct classes which cannot be treated identically.&nbsp;

On Monday (March 13th) the court was scheduled to hear pleas seeking the validation, and this submission comes just a day ahead.&nbsp;A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala will be presiding over the hearing.

LiveLaw reports that the centre in its affidavit stated that marriage between individuals of opposite sexes is "socially, culturally and legally ingrained into the very idea and concept of marriage and ought not to be disturbed or diluted by judicial interpretation."

"Living together as partners and having sexual relationship by same-sex individuals is not comparable with the Indian family unit concept of a husband, a wife and children which necessarily presuppose a biological man as a 'husband', a biological woman as a 'wife' and the children born out of the union between the two-who are reared by the biological man as father and the biological&nbsp;woman&nbsp;as&nbsp;mother," it said.

In India, homosexual relationships were decriminalised on 6th September 2018.

The data based on the national space agency's DETER surveillance programme shows the extent of challenges faced by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in his quest to reverse surging environmental destruction.

In Cerrado, satellite data showed 558 square kilometres of destruction. This is up 99 per cent from February 2022 and nearly double the February 2020 record of 283 square kilometres.

The numbers are no surprise. As per an AFP report, deforestation in the Amazon had already broken the record for February just 17 days into the month. However, these were not the figures President Lula was hoping for after two months in office.&nbsp;

Amazon forest, which is often referred to as the "lungs of the planet", is a critical buffer against global warming.

Environmental groups seem to have given Lula a pass. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Brazil office Frederico Machado in a statement said, "It's difficult to reverse the damage of an anti-environmental policy in so little time."

As per photos of ex-wife’s purported text messages which Silva submitted as evidence, she told the defendants: "I know either way he will use it against me. If I told him before, which I’m not, he would use it as [a way to] try to stay with me. And after the fact, I know he will try to act like he has some right to the decision."

The man alleges that his ex-wife's two friends illegally obtained abortion pills to terminate the pregnancy, while another woman delivered the pills. He is demanding damages amounting to $1 million and a prohibition blocking the three women from distributing abortion pills.

The development comes as the SVB announced a share sale to shore up its finances, but the plan did not go well on the Wall Street as investors went on a sell-off spree, triggering a crash in its shares. 
 
As concerns over the bank's financial position spooked the market, a person familiar with the matter said Greg Becker, the SVB Financial Group Chief Executive Officer held a conference call around 11:30 am with the bank's advising clients including its venture and capital investors for 10 minutes and urged them to 'stay calm' and to support the bank like they had been doing for the past 40 years. Now to understand what happened with one of the US's oldest lenders, it's important to look at why did it happen and what's next. Here's everything you need to know:

When and how did the crisis begin?

As per Google Finance, SVB's stock fell 60 per cent ($106.04) on Thursday and its bond posted record declines.

Back in 2021, the bank saw a massive influx in its deposits which jumped from $61.67 billion to almost $189.20 billion. As its deposits grew, it failed to generate its loan book fast enough to generate the yield it wanted to see on the deposited capital. To tackle this, the bank purchased a large mortgage-backed security (MBS) worth $80 billion for its hold-to-maturity (HTM) portfolio. Over 95 per cent of these MBS were for over 10 years, with an average yield of 1.56 per cent.&nbsp;

However, with the rise in Fed rates, the value of SVB's MBS decreased, as the customers could buy "risk free" bonds from the Fed at a 2.5x higher yield, meaning,&nbsp;with the rising value of the Fed, the value of existing bonds fell.&nbsp;

Who are the SVB's clients?

The United States' leading lender is deeply connected to startups, as its focuses on trade in Silicon Valley and tech startups only.&nbsp;

As per the bank's website, it does business with over 50 per cent of all US venture capital-backed startups and almost 45 per cent of US venture-backed tech and healthcare companies.

The SVB announced that it had sold $21 billion of its Available For Sale (AFS) securities at a $1.8 billion loss and was raising another $2.5 billion in equity and debt.&nbsp;

This came as a surprise for its investors, who thought that the bank won't sell its AFS securities. Prominent venture capitalists advised businesses and startups to withdraw their money from the bank.&nbsp;

According to Bloomberg, a high-profile VC firm, Founders Fund, asked its portfolio companies to move their money. Union Square Ventures and Founder Collective also advised their portfolio companies to pull their funds from the bank.&nbsp;

What could happen next?

With the ongoing crisis at the SVB, analysts have raised their respective concerns.

According to a founding engineer at Glean, Debarghya Das if tech companies and startups continue to pull their money out of the bank, the SVB might go bankrupt, and tech companies would be wiped out, raising the chances of recession. &nbsp;

Islamabad court suspends Pak ex-PM Imran Khan's arrest warrants till March 13 in Toshakhana case

The UK government will unveil a highly anticipated yet controversial bill on Tuesday aimed at stopping illegal migrant crossings across the English Channel. It would ban those making the perilous journey using small boats from claiming asylum in the country and will deport them swiftly. If passed, the draft law will also prevent those deported from re-entering the UK and ever claiming British citizenship. The home secretary will have the duty to carry out these deportations, according to reports. The proposed legislation has been heavily criticised by rights groups who claim it is unworkable and unfairly targets refugees. Ministers from PM Rishi Sunak's government, however, claim it is necessary.&nbsp;

AFP reports that the new law comes days before a summit with French President Emmanuel Macron. The Friday summit reportedly has cooperation&nbsp;to "stop the boats" high on its agenda.

"(It) will ensure that people arriving in the UK illegally are detained and promptly returned to their home country or a safe third country," said an interior ministry spokesperson, while stressing the need for the law and the "vital" role France plays to curb crossings.&nbsp;

Reportedly, the British government has claimed that its latest attempt at putting a stop to the illegal crossings will not breach Britain's obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

Ticking off a litany of abuses like maternal mortality, child marriage, girls being denied education and more, that women face, he said that "women's rights are being abused, threatened, and violated around the world."&nbsp;

Mentioning the dire conditions in Afghanistan, he remarked, "women and girls have been erased from public life."&nbsp;

In this, international numbers pretend to be local, thereby robbing telecom operators of hefty international call fees. As per Communications Fraud Control Association's 'Fraud Loss Survey' report for 2021, globally the SIM box fraud has cost the telecom industry around $3.11 billion, or approximately 7.8 per cent of the industry's total revenue. During the past few years, it has actually emerged as one of the top telecom scams.

How does it work?

This is a bypass fraud. Scammers use Sim Boxes to redirect international calls over the internet and make them look like local calls.

As per Infosys, "a SIM box fraud diverts international calls to a cellular device through the internet. This device, called a SIM box, routes the connections back into the network as local calls, using hundreds of low-cost or even unpaid SIM cards, which are often obtained with forged identities."

They thus benefit by exploiting the "difference between local and international charges by paying just local rates or none at all to cell carriers after billing international rates from the source."

As proof, Gutowski, according to AFP, cites documents from former Communist-era SB secret police and rare church documents to which he managed to get access.&nbsp;

One of Gutowski's sources claimed to have in 1973 personally notified the former pope of acts of paedophilia. "Wojtyla first wanted to make sure it wasn't a bluff," claims the source.

The then-cardinal reportedly told him to keep the information under wraps, saying "he would deal with it."&nbsp;

Recent years have seen several reports of similar abuse of minors from the Polish church. Following the reports, especially in the past two years, several high-ranking church officials have been charged by the Vatican for covering up paedophilia by members of the clergy.&nbsp;

This particular controversy ended&nbsp;with Hancock's resignation from the post of Britain's health secretary.

On June 25th 2021, it came to light that he broke the country's social distancing rules along with aide Gina Coladangelo.&nbsp;

The recent messages that revealed incidents of Hancock joking about&nbsp;locking travellers in quarantine hotels during the COVID-19 pandemic and rejecting advice from healthcare experts are part of the 'Pandemic Diaries' controversy.

In April 2022, Hancock announced that he would publish his 'diaries' from during the pandemic in the form of a book. This book was coauthored by Journalist Isabel Oakeshott.

It is not based on Hancock's diaries, but rather on his recollections from the pandemic period. As part of the research for the book, Hancock shared with Oakeshott more than 100,000 WhatsApp messages from his conversations with other ministers' aides and public health advisers.

Among them were also messages that detailed Hancock's reaction to the CCTV footage of him and his aide, Gina Coladangelo, canoodling.

"Not sure there's much news value in that and I can't say it's very enjoyable viewing," remarked Hancock as per the leaked messages.

These messages, which were handed over to the journalist under a confidentiality agreement, were made public by Oakeshott.

She says that the decision to make them public is in the public interest and that "no journalist worth their salt would sit on a cache of information on such a historic matter and cover that up." As per a Guardian report, Oakeshott did accept that "her relationship with Matt Hancock soured after he abandoned her in the middle of writing their book in order to appear on I’m a Celebrity."

This move was termed a "massive betrayal and breach of trust," by Hancock. However, not everyone agrees. As&nbsp;BBC puts it, these messages are "an insight into decision-making at the heart of government during the most testing and turbulent time in recent British history," and a "brilliant scoop."

Talking to the Sun on Sunday newspaper, interior minister Suella Braverman said "enough is enough."&nbsp;For months now, the British government has been promising to step up action to tackle the issue of illegal migrants. More so, after the number of people making the perilous crossing across the English Channel soared to more than 45,000 last year.

"Enough is enough. The British people want this solved," said the Home Secretary adding, "they are sick of tough talk and inadequate action. We must stop the boats."

Last year, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson agreed on a deal to send tens of thousands of migrants more than 4,000 miles away (6,400 km) to Rwanda; a country that has been accused of "a poor human rights record" by the British High Commissioner to Rwanda. The sentiment is shared by multiple European nations, six of which even expressed their concern for the same via an open letter marking Human Rights Day in 2015.

'Enough is enough,' UK set to introduce new law to crack down on illegal migrants

A serial killer popularly known as the ‘Devil's Disciple’ may soon be out from behind the bars. Often referred to as Britain's forgotten serial killer, Patrick Mackay has been in prison for 48 years, since 1975. Mackay was jailed for killing two elderly women and a priest. He briefly also admitted to eight other killings before retracting the confession. The now 70-year-old, who is believed to be UK's longest-serving killer, is up for a parole hearing next month. However, families of his victims and former police chief, Retired Detective Inspector Ken Tappenden, who is part of the team credited for catching Mackay, warn that even after almost five decades, the serial killer remains a danger to society.

Tappenden, a member of the Kent Police team that apprehended the serial killer, as per Daily Mail, has warned that "Mackay should never be freed. He could turn and become extremely dangerous."

Gareth Johnson, an MP for Dartford in Kent, where Mackay was raised, has expressed a fear that the killer's freedom bid may succeed, given that he isn't as notorious as some other murderers. "If he's free, I don't think the country will be safe," he remarked, and added that the public must be made aware of Mackay's crimes.

MacKay has reportedly changed his identity during his years in prison and now goes by the name David Groves. Currently, he is in an open prison near Bristol and is even allowed day-release trips.

His victims include 87-year-old widow Isabella Griffiths from Chelsea and 89-year-old Adele Price, from Kensington; both died of strangulation. He split open the skull of his third victim, 62-year-old Catholic priest Anthony Crean, using an axe.
