He is also the Democratic Party deputy national finance chair. This role, as per PTI, also emphasises the importance of fundraising efforts and the role of donors in shaping the future of American politics.

The event marked the first in-person donor conference by President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris. Quoting people present at the conference, PTI reports that at the event, Democratic Party officials presented their campaign strategy and began their fundraising efforts. Reportedly, for this election cycle they've set the goal of USD 2 Billion — double the USD 1 billion raised last time.

NBC News reported that "Harris has also been out pushing the Biden agenda, having recently delivered remarks about abortion rights in a speech at Howard University. She talked about her work on abortion issues, insulin and broadband access in her remarks on Friday."

Speaking to ABC News’ Houston station KTRK, Sheriff Greg Capers of the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office revealed that all the victims were shot “from the neck up almost execution style, basically in the head.”

Police believe the motive was a disagreement between the victims and the suspect, who had a habit of shooting his AR-15-style rifle in his front yard.

Capers told KTRK that the victims had asked the shooter to keep quiet as they had a sleeping baby.

“My understanding is that the victims, they came over to the fence and said ‘Hey could [you not do your] shooting out in the yard? We have a young baby that’s trying to go to sleep,’ and he had been drinking and he says ‘I’ll do what I want to in my front yard’,” said Capers.

At the time of the shooting, there were at least 10 people in the home. The youngest victim of the tragic shooting is an eight-year-old child.

Also among the victims are two females who, as per the ABC News report — in an apparent attempt to save them — were found lying on top of the two surviving children.

The suspect, as per authorities, is a Mexican male, armed with an AR-15-style rifle. He is believed to be in an intoxicated state. Police are looking for a Hispanic male with short black hair, approximately 5’8" tall. The suspect was reportedly last seen wearing blue jeans with a black shirt and work boots.

All of his victims are between the ages of eight and 40 years. Four victims were declared dead at the scene while another four died after being taken to the hospital.

Police haven’t revealed the identities of the victims or their relationship to the suspect, but said they are from Honduras.&nbsp;

“We are getting closer to him every minute of every hour, but we know who he is,” said Capers, adding, “he [the suspect] is from Mexico. The victims themselves were from Honduras.”

Authorities have advised locals to “stay inside, stay clear” of the crime scene until the investigation has concluded.

Operation Kaveri was launched by the government of India on Monday. Under it, India aims to evacuate close to 3,000 Indian citizens stranded in Sudan.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan announced that he will be leaving for Jeddah to oversee rescue efforts in Sudan.

As per an ANI report, the operation's name was chosen along the same lines as 'Operation Ganga,' under which the country evacuated stranded Indian citizens from Ukraine as Russia launched a "special military operation" against Kyiv.

The news agency quoted an anonymous top source as saying that the operation was named so as "Rivers reach their destination irrespective of barriers. It's like a mother who will ensure she will bring her children back to safety."

The Sapporo court argued that laws or regulations that deprive same-sex couples of the legal benefits of marriage are discriminatory and violate Article 14 of the Japanese Constitution. The court also ruled that Article 24 of the Constitution, which defines marriage as "based only on the mutual consent of both sexes", does not prohibit the recognition of same-sex marriages. However, in June 2022, another district court, this one in Osaka, upheld the constitutionality of the ban on same-sex marriage.&nbsp;

A federal judge ruled that the tape can be used by columnist E Jean Carroll in her lawsuit accusing Trump of rape. The tape, which came to light in 2016, caught Trump in conversation with Billy Bush, an Access Hollywood TV show personality. In it, the businessman, in a very graphic manner, boasts about how celebrities like him can grope women without waiting for consent.

Judge Lewis Kaplan in his order wrote, "In this case, a jury reasonably could find, even from the Access Hollywood tape alone, that Mr Trump admitted in the Access Hollywood tape that he in fact has had contact with women’s genitalia in the past without their consent, or that he has attempted to do so."

The trial in question is scheduled to begin next month. However, it is yet to be specified whether it includes Carroll's defamation claims or will only be about the rape accusations she formally made against Trump.&nbsp;

She made these accusations in November after New York state temporarily changed laws to let adult rape victims sue their abusers over decades-old abuse.

Apart from the tape, the judge said he will also allow jurors to hear statements from two other women who have accused the businessman&nbsp;of sexual misconduct.

In the tape, Trump said that sometimes when he sees beautiful women: "I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait."

He further added, "When you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything … grab them by the p***y." The last part of this particular sentence soon went viral, and later Trump had to offer a public apology. He then termed these comments as "locker room banter".

As India debates whether same-sex marriage should be allowed legally, a child rights activist has come out against the move, and has said that such marriages will infringe upon the rights of the children and would deprive them of "at least one parent."

Talking to IANS, Kumar V Jahgirdar, founder and president of the Child Rights Initiative for Shared Parenting (CRISP) told IANS that "It is natural for any child to have a natural father and mother," and that with the proposed law India is "heading to the creation of a fatherless or motherless society."

He said that in a same-sex marriage, one person will be 'acting' as though they are "a father or mother respectively," but that in fact a child "raised by a same-sex couple is deprived of at least one parent."

It is set to become a fashion to speak about LGBTQ rights and nobody is bothered about child rights. The child rights and same sex rights can't go in the same boat."

"I hope the apex court takes this seriously and does not hamper child fundamental rights," he added.

The child rights activist also predicted that "children in same-sex marriage may feel a stigma that may end in drugs or school dropouts or land up in jail as a teenager."

He also said that if the law is passed, rules regarding the custody of the child post-separation or divorce of the parents must be laid out. The custody of children and shared parenting in cases of separation must be ensured, he added.

Indian child rights activist claims same-sex marriage denies kids one parent's love

Donald Trump may soon have another 'title' added to his name, that of a rapist. This week, former advice columnist and author E Jean Carroll will finally get her chance to speak in court about the alleged ordeal she had to bear at the hands of the former US president.

Carroll sued Trump under a recent New York state law that opened a one-year window for adult victims of sexual assault. It allows them to file civil cases after the expiry of the statute of limitations. She alleges that sometime in late 1995 or early 1996, Trump sexually assaulted her in a New York department store.

As per the Guardian, jury selection for the case is set to begin in a Manhattan court on Tuesday.

The former columnist claims that Trump raped her in the dressing room of Bergdorf Goodman, a New York department store. She claims that she was shopping in the store when Trump recognised her and asked her for help in choosing a present for a woman.

The businessman then led her to the lingerie section, where he "grabbed up from the counter a little see-through bodysuit and told me to go try it on," said Carroll.&nbsp;

"And that’s where I got into trouble, because we went into the dressing room and he closed the door and that was it."

As per the lawsuit, Trump initially pinned Carroll against the wall and forcibly kissed her, but "then he pressed her against the wall once more, pulled down her tights, and forcibly raped her for several minutes until she managed to push him off and fled the store."

Carroll claims that following the ordeal she did not file a police complaint because she "was in shock and did not wish to think of herself as a rape victim."

As per the complaint, Carroll chose to forego going to the police because one of her friends "stressed that Mr Trump was powerful and would ‘bury’ Ms Carroll if she came forward."

However, when the businessman was elected President and the #MeToo movement gained traction, she chose to break her silence. She even wrote a book, 'What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal,' detailing different kinds of abuses by a number of men, including Trump.

In 2019, she also filed a defamation case against Trump denying her accusations, saying she was lying and was only trying to sell her book that should "should be sold in the fiction section."

Trump, however, denies the allegations and claims he has never met the author, although a picture of them along with their spouses exists.

As per an Express Tribune report, in a nine-page letter sent to the authorities via her counsel Azhar Siddique, Bushra under articles 9, 14, 15, 16 and 17 of the Constitution, Bushra asked the PM and CM to "refrain the authorities from conducting any operation without adopting the due process of law."&nbsp;

The letter referred to a police raid conducted on March 18 without the presence of a female police officer — against court instructions. Bushra said she is currently working on the "rehabilitation" of Zaman Park, and expressed her apprehension that the police are planning another operation during Eid al-Fitr holidays.

She warned the CM and PM that if any such operation is carried out, it would be a violation of articles 10-A, 4, and 5 of the Constitution. The letter also warned that appropriate actions or remedies would be taken in due course of law, and the PM, CM, and other officers would be held responsible for any violation of fundamental rights.

"Furthermore, if any such operation is carried out at Zaman Park, Lahore or at any nearby place, the prime minister, chief minister and other officer(s) would be held responsible and appropriate actions or remedies shall be taken in due course of law and this representation(s) may be considered as a warning against taking any action in violation of fundamental rights which are in the negation of Article 10-A read with articles 4 &amp; 5 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973," stated the letter.

This letter comes after the Lahore High Court dismissed a petition filed by her to "halt police action" at the residence. Kumi Tsukahara, director of the Reproductive Health Rights Literacy Institute, said that the decision was a positive step towards putting a spotlight on issues like limited access to safe abortion. However, she warned that the drug could be inaccessible to some.

She suggested that the government should come up with a system to train medical practitioners on how to communicate about abortion without any stigma and help them assess the risks.

"It’s important that they help patients understand what is safe and what is not, enabling them to make their own decision," said Tsukahara.

The pill pack is to be administered at medical institutions. It consists of two oral drugs, two types of drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol and is to be taken within the first nine weeks of pregnancy. The government is yet to create guidelines for physicians and offer the public information on the drug.

Earlier, in January, an initial advisory panel at the health ministry had approved the production and sale of the abortion pill pack.

In Japan, abortion requires spousal consent under the Maternal Health Act; this can limit access to the procedure. This law will also apply to abortion pills, according to the country's health ministry.

Currently, for abortion, Japan allows surgical procedures in the early stages of pregnancy. These, as per Japan Times, cost around cost ¥100,000 to ¥200,000 (around $730 to $1,500).&nbsp;

Mefeego, the abortion pill will not be covered under Japan's national health insurance, and as per estimates may cost more, which as per Tsukuhara is behind its accessibility for all. Despite this, she said the approval can be seen as a first step.&nbsp;

30 years after the world started using it, Japan approves its first ever abortion pill

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka, a series of historic paintings were unveiled by the Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi. During the event, Minister Lekhi highlighted the close historical, cultural, and traditional relationship between India and Sri Lanka, particularly in the context of the Buddhist connection. She emphasised the importance of strengthening this relationship further for future generations over centuries. Minister Lekhi said that the "paintings have been presented by monks who have travelled all the way from Sri Lanka. They brought two&nbsp;paintings which are replicas of two original paintings available in a temple near Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo."

The Sri Lankan delegation was in Delhi to take part in the global Buddhist Summit 2023, organised by the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) and the Ministry of Culture. The delegation expressed elation over the Minister's decision to do something more concrete on the Buddhist network between Sri Lanka and India in the coming months and years.

The presence of the Sri Lankan Buddhist monks was significant, given the deep historical and cultural connections between Buddhism and both India and Sri Lanka. The paintings presented by the Sri Lankan High Commissioner served as a poignant reminder of the longstanding ties between the two nations, cemented over the years through shared culture and history.

The two murals, which were painted by the eminent Sri Lankan painter Solias Mendis in the Kelaniya Rajamaha Vihara, depict the commencement of Buddhism in Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BCE. The murals depict the arrival of Arahat Bhikkhu Mahinda, son of Emperor Ashoka, delivering the message of the Buddha to King Devanampiyatissa of Sri Lanka upon arriving on the island. The second mural depicts the arrival of Theri Bhikkhuni Sanghamitta, the daughter of the emperor, bearing the sapling of the Sri Maha Bodhi tree under which Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment.

Police suspected a splinter group of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine for the attack, but no organisation claimed responsibility. This comes as research by a trade union found that UK's National Health Service (NHS) has been wasting more than £1 million ($1.23 million) on private ambulances for emergency calls.

Unison has alleged that instead of properly investing in ambulances, across the country, annually,&nbsp;the government is spending at least £61 million ($75.3 million) on private ambulances to respond to emergency incidents such as road traffic accidents and stroke patients.
