Britain's King Charles III on Monday (March 11) hailed the work of the Commonwealth on its 75th anniversary.

The British monarch, who is currently recuperating from cancer treatment, paid tribute to the voluntary club via a pre-recorded video message saying that he would continue to serve "to the best of" his ability.

"The seventy-fifth anniversary of The Commonwealth is a moment to reflect on the remarkable journey that our unique family of free and independent nations has made since 1949. Last year, The Bahamas celebrated its fiftieth anniversary of Independence, as Grenada has this year, and Papua New Guinea will next year. Each of these milestones – and many others like them – represent the fulfilment of countless aspirations and the achievement of such remarkable potential," Charles said in his message.

"Having recently celebrated my own 75th birthday, it warms my heart to reflect on the way the Commonwealth has been a constant throughout my own life – a precious source of strength, inspiration, and pride," he said.

"In recent weeks, I have been most deeply touched by your wonderfully kind and thoughtful good wishes for my health and, in return, can only continue to serve you, to the best of my ability, throughout the Commonwealth," he further added.

Charles was forced to step away from public duties after it was announced that he was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer.

The King heads the Commonwealth of 56 countries that evolved from the British Empire.

Due to his health condition, the annual service of celebration at London's Westminster Abbey was attended by his wife Queen Camilla, who took over the royal duties post Charles' cancer diagnosis.

This year's Commonwealth Day events, which are usually considered the most significant annual royal occasion, were also marred by controversy surrounding a photo that was shared by Kate, wife of heir to the throne Prince William on Sunday (March 10).

She apologised on Monday for issuing an edited photograph of herself with her three kids after several leading news organisations retracted the image.

In a statement shared on Kensington Palace's social media, Kate expressed regret, stating, "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother's Day."

"The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private," the statement continued. "Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share."

Queen Camilla to take time off from royal duties post King Charles' cancer diagnosis

Prince Harry lost a court challenge against the UK government on Wednesday over a decision to change the level of his personal security when he visits the country.

Harry launched legal action against the government after being told in February 2020 that he would no longer be given the "same degree" of publicly-funded protection when in Britain.

"The 'bespoke' process devised for the claimant in the decision of 28 February 2020 was, and is, legally sound," High Court judge Peter Lane said in his 52-page judgment.

Much of the legal proceedings, which covered security arrangements for senior figures, were held in private in December 2023, reports the BBC. The ruling was issued by retired High Court judge Sir Peter Lane on Wednesday morning. Prince Harry, Meghan Markle slammed for using royal titles on new website

The ruling is likely to impact Harry's future visits to the UK, as he previously argued that the lower level of security has made it difficult to bring his family to the country.

The news comes amid Harry's father, King Charles III's cancer treatment. Earlier this month, as the King was diagnosed with cancer, Harry rushed to the UK to meet his father and stayed in the country for a day before heading back to his family. Rumours are rife that Harry may now visit the UK with his wife and children soon to meet the monarch.

She continued: "King Charles has only met Lilibet once at the Platinum Jubilee in 2022 and, Archie left the UK when he was a baby, so his meetings with the King have been sparse and, they don’t have a relationship with their grandfather, so I suspect Harry would like to grow their relationship with King Charles."

She continued: "King Charles has only met Lilibet once at the Platinum Jubilee in 2022 and, Archie left the UK when he was a baby, so his meetings with the King have been sparse and, they don’t have a relationship with their grandfather, so I suspect Harry would like to grow their relationship with King Charles." Harry is currently living with his wife, Meghan, and two children, Archie and Lilibet, in Montecito, California. Earlier this month, Britain's King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer. Soon after the palace announcement, Prince Harry was quick to return to his homeland, London, to meet his ailing father. Veteran lyricist Gulzar honoured with prestigious Jnanpith Award Talking about his return, Harry in an interview with Good Morning America, said he ''jumped on a plane'' soon after he talked to him over the phone. He further added, ''Look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.” When asked if Charles' illness could help in reuniting the family. To this, Harry 39, said, ''Absolutely. Yeah, I’m sure." ''Throughout all these [Invictus Games] families, I see it on a day-to-day basis the strength of the family unit coming together,” he shared. “I think any illness, any sickness brings families together.” Harry landed in London on Feb 6 to visit his estranged father King Charles III after the monarch's cancer diagnosis. Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, did not accompany him.

Prince William has been in the news ever since his father, King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer as a lot is being written about the uncertainty that looms over the royal family. At a fundraiser for London’s Air Ambulance, William said, "It means a great deal to us all.” Hollywood star Tom Cruise was also a guest at the fundraiser.

Prince William added, “It's fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather 'medical' focus. So I thought I'd come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all!”

As a former air ambulance pilot himself, Prince William spoke of the need for new helicopters to support this emergency service and the "truly life-saving difference it can make". The charity is currently appealing to raise £15 million.

Drama ensues as Harry 'snubs' brother Prince William while visiting King Charles

Britain's King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer. The Buckingham Palace has said that the king began treatment on Monday. Is Cancer the great equaliser? It does not discriminate between a king and the poor- it finds a way to get to both.

Gravitas | King Charles: Is Cancer the great equaliser?

King Charles was seen in public on Tuesday for the first time since it was revealed he was suffering from a form of cancer as his estranged younger son Prince Harry flew into London to see him.

King Charles seen in public for first time since cancer announcement

The headlines have screamed and the talking-heads have spoken. From the corridors of British royalty, the announcement came on Feb 5, 2024 that King Charles III, the present-day wearer of 'The Crown', has cancer.

But Charles III is not the first in the long line of the family, which currently sits over an estimated wealth of $28 billion, to be diagnosed with such a malady.

Generations of inter-marriage have contributed to the emergence of hereditary diseases in the family.

Furthermore, if the contents of a book are to be believed, the history of King Charles' ancestors dining over human flesh too may have contributed to the emergence of certain acute infections, but that's up for debate.

"Over in continental Europe, where the axe fell routinely on the necks of criminals, blood was the medicine of choice for many epileptics," wrote Richard Sugg in his book Mummies, Cannibals and Vampires: The History of Corpse Medicine from the Renaissance to the Victorians.

The book talks about a series of encounters due to which medieval Europeans believed that consuming embalmed bodies, such as the mummified bodies in Europe, could cure them of disease.

According to the book, the royals too routinely consumed human body products in an effort to stave off anything from headaches to epilepsy and from nosebleeds to gout.

Sugg claimed in the book that the namesake ancestors of present-day King Charles, Charles II made his own 'corpse medicine' while Charles I himself was made into corpse medicine.

But thankfully, the times have changed. King Charles III is living in 2024. Unlike his ancestors, he doesn't have to sermonise a colonial officer to unearth a mummy from Egypt to remit his cancer. Medical Science is well-equipped to do that job.

Cast From The Past: How cancer remains a royal constant in Britain

A week after Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton returned home after undergoing abdominal surgery, her husband Prince William has returned to work.

Kate left the hospital last Monday after almost two weeks of being cared for following her surgery.

During that time and since her discharge, Prince William has been helping look after their three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, at the family home, Adelaide Cottage, on the Windsor Castle estate.

Prince William will host his first public outing since the surgery when he undertakes a morning of investiture on behalf of his father, King Charles, who has been diagnosed with cancer and is off-duty.

On Wednesday, the Prince of Wales is also scheduled to honour one of his key interests by attending the annual fundraising gala for the London Air Ambulance.

The royal family has provided no recent update on the progress of Princess Kate as she recovers from her operation. Soon after the news of King Charles' cancer diagnosis broke, William's younger brother Prince Harry flew down from the US on Tuesday to meet the monarch.

Britain's Prince Harry has touched down in the UK from California for a rare visit to meet his father King Charles. Prince Harry made the transatlantic Dash to see his father following his cancer diagnosis.

Prince Harry flies from US' to UK, spent 30 minutes with father King Charles

Prince Harry arrived in Britain on Tuesday to meet his father King Charles III after he was diagnosed with cancer. The visit and the King's illness, many royal experts feel, might just spur a reconciliation between the monarch and his younger son. However, experts feel the rift between Harry and his brother Prince William will be more difficult to heal.

The announcement that 75-year-old Charles was suffering from unspecified cancer prompted an immediate reaction from the disgruntled US-based prince who has in the past four years maintained distance from his family.

After announcing that he had spoken to his father, Harry touched down in London on Tuesday less than 24 hours after the palace made his father's diagnosis public.

The news sparked immediate speculation among royal experts that the monarch's illness could be a catalyst to heal the family tensions that have been there right from 2020 and aggravated when Charles took to the throne in 2022.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, however, described the rift between Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and the rest of the royal family as "very deep".

Harry and Meghan's beef with the royal family

Since Harry quit royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California, the family has been increasingly fractured by tensions that have seen a complete breakdown in the once close relationship between Harry and heir to the throne William. A lot of accusations have been thrown at the royal family by Harry and his wife Meghan Markle in an interview to Oprah, a Netflix documentary and Harry's memoir Spare.

Claims by Markle, who is mixed race, in an interview with chat show queen Oprah Winfrey that an unnamed member of the family had expressed concerns about the colour of her son Archie before he was born prompted the late Queen Elizabeth II to famously note that "recollections may vary".

An infuriated William also responded that the royals were "very much not a racist family".

"There's no question that the Sussexes were deeply unhappy when they were senior working royals," Fitzwilliams told AFP. "There's absolutely no doubt that their interview with Oprah and subsequent films, interviews and Harry's memoir, caused a great deal of bitterness."

He said the brothers' relationship would be "tough to heal, " but the family should now put on a united front.

"The royal family is in this connection just like any other family and it should pull together."

"And what we therefore ought to be seeing is rapprochement, however gradual or however it's handled in the coming weeks and months," he said.

On Tuesday, Harry was seen arriving at the King's Clarence House residence in London where he stayed for around 50 minutes. Soon after Harry left, the Birtish monarch was seen leaving his home, and looked visibly relaxed. He was accompanied by Queen Camilla.

Would Harry and William patch up?

"To the relief of courtiers, the Duke of Sussex will apparently be making the journey without his wife Meghan. The question is will he also see William," the Daily Mail's Richard Kay wrote.

Kay said William and Harry, Charles's sons with the late Princess Diana, were not believed to have even "exchanged a word" for many months.

William had in fact given up on rebuilding their relationship, he said.

The 41-year-old William was reportedly particularly angered by Harry's comments in "Spare" that he may not have married his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, for love.

He is said to have regarded the suggestion as "the lowest of the low".

"While Charles has been torn by the conflict between his sons and has longed for a rapprochement, William is convinced that trust, the basis of any relationship has been utterly destroyed," Kay said.

Another royal watcher, Camilla Tominey of the Daily Telegraph, said she feared the brothers' feud was now too entrenched.

She said sources suggested the brothers' bond following Harry's incendiary remarks in "Spare" was "beyond all repair".

But she held out the hope that they might put their differences aside to help their father beat his cancer. "The one thing they do still have in common is their shared love of their 'darling Pa', the only parent they have left," she said, adding that a royal rapprochement would "certainly help the king on the road to recovery".
