This started after she accused Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, Mahesh Bhatt, among others of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. She called them the ‘suicide gang' who was responsible for the suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

As she continued to accuse the stars, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap stepped in to talk about Kangana Ranaut. In a series of tweets, he claimed that Kangana is being “used,” but also voiced his concerns for the actress who he said was once his “good friend”.

Anurag Kashyap also shared a throwback interview of Kangana addressing claims that she cut out scenes of co-actors when she took over as director of ‘Manikarnika’. In the clip that Anurag described as “scary”, the actress can be seen giving her take on actors comlaining about their roles being scrapped.

Sharing the clip, he said, "कल कंगना का interview देखा।

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Kangana Ranaut to be questioned in Sushant Singh Rajput's suicide case

India. The land of wonderous things where shows like Koffee With Karan is taken seriously, where Kamaal R Khan reviews films and where the death of a star is used to leverage personal angst and battles.

Sushant Singh Rajput's death on Sunday left the entire country in shock. The actor, who in a short period in Bollywood, managed to not just carve a niche for himself but deliver box office hits, died by suicide at his Mumbai flat. Initial Police reports have stated that the actor was under medication for depression. The actor did not leave any suicide note.

His family has sought a probe into the matter alleging that it was a murder and not a case of suicide.

While the police are still investigating the case, the woke junta on social media seems to have already given its judgement and declared some of the biggest names of Bollywood as villains. Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra, have been accused of bullying and overlooking Sushant's talent and choosing star-kids for their films. An old video of Alia Bhatt from Koffee With Karan has resurfaced where she opts to 'kill Sushant Singh Rajput' in kill-marry-hookup question during a rapid-fire round. A lawyer in Bihar has even filed a criminal complaint against 8 Bollywood stars including Johar, Chopra, Ekta Kapoor(who first gave Rajput a break in her TV shows) and Sajid Nadiadwala.

Now, let's get a few things clear. Nepotism exists in Bollywood. It's rampant like it is many other professions and it has to be addressed and called out. Star -kids do have it easy compared to an outsider, but some of the biggest stars in Bollywood do not belong to film families and worked hard to reach where they are. Sushant Singh Rajput was one of them.

The youngest in his family which comprises of four elder sisters, a government employee father and a homemaker mother who passed away when he was 16, Sushant was a good student and studied at the prestigious Delhi College Engineering. He quit his studies in the third year to enter the world of showbiz, became a star on the small screen when he played the lead in a TV show called 'Pavitra Rishta' and made heads turn with his debut film 'Kai Po Che' which released in 2013.

Since then, Rajput has been part of some big films, that have been backed by the so-called A-listers of the film industry. 'PK', 'Shuddh Desi Romance', 'Detective Byomkesh Bakshi (both were produced by Adi Chopra's YRF), 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' (Fox Star India) were big-budget films- directed and backed by known names. His last film in theatres, 2019's hit 'Chhichhore' was produced by Sajid Nadiadwala- another big name in the Hindi film industry. Rajput, in seven years, had not just carved a niche for himself in the industry but also was one of the rare few who worked his way up, witness box office success with his films and earned critical praise for many of his performances. He was a self-made man, a successful actor.

With his tragic death, the narrative seems to have changed. The internet has not just made him a victim of nepotism, but also of bullying. Now one wonders, what’s the basis of such an assumption. Well, a few clippings that of old award shows where actors can be seen taking jabs at his expense, the now infamous 'Koffee With Karan' episode, and a few old interviews of Rajput where he has reportedly admitted that he didn’t have too many friends. Some even went to the extent of arguing that him not getting invited to Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh's wedding reception was a clear indication of how Bollywood fraternity ignored the talented man.

While calling out nepotism in Bollywood is pertinent, it is also important to not dilute it with Rajput's death. Both are complex issues and need separate discussions.

We don't know what lead to Rajput's death or why he was suffering from depression. Professionally, the actor had a good year in 2019 with 'Chhichhore' earning big bucks at the box office and 'Son Chidiya' earning critical praise. The only debacle for the actor was a Netflix film called 'Drive' (produced by Karan Johar) which had been in the making for a long time and ultimately took the digital route. So one can say professionally the actor was doing well. The actor also had at least two big projects in the pipeline which had been stalled due to the lockdown.

Neither did Rajput, nor his close confidante have ever mentioned that the man was bullied in Bollywood or that he was a victim of nepotism. The uproar on social media seems to be based on presumptions that not only defeat the whole conversation about mental health but in a way degrades Rajput's hard work over the years and his journey to stardom.

A man who rose the ladder through his talent has been reduced to a mere victim of things that may or may not have ever affected him. We won't know unless the police unravel something.

His death, though, has highlighted the toxicity of several people-stars, politicians and fans alike. Riding on something as unfortunate as death, people have tried to leverage it for their own agenda.

Social media has fed people with a parallel narrative which, in times of such uncertainty, has been lapped up and accentuated further.

In just two days, actors and filmmakers have been called out, labeled and shunned. Its a witch hunt now really which might just lead to further mental health issues for the said stars.

Ironically, back when Rajput was alive, the same public preferred watching a rather flimsy 'Lukka Chuupi' over thought-provoking 'Sonchiriya' (they released on the same day.) I wish the actor had got so much attention when he was alive. Instead, most were busy gushing over Varun Dhawan's antics in one of the Dharma blockbusters.

If the film industry has encouraged nepotism, the audience too has helped in making many of these star-kids with limited talents into superstars. There’s an inherent problem in the way we perceive Bollywood and measure success, why just blame the film industry for it. Don’t we forget actors once their films start sinking? Don’t we overlook talent over glamour and stardom?

What have we become? The whole blame-game shrouding Rajput’s death has highlighted how vicious and hurtful society can be. To show support and solidarity to one individual we are now calling names and labeling the others. The toxicity also highlights the inherent unhappiness that people have where one has to pull down a person to feel better.

More importantly, it shifts focus from the person whose sudden death has left a void in Bollywood that will be hard to fill.
Grieve all you want for its a loss that will take time to accept. A bright young talent, who has given such memorable performances is no more and it is bound to hurt. But don’t seek answers for his death or start calling names or hold a handful of people responsible for it. Instead, celebrate him and his work. That would be the best tribute that a fan could give to an artist.

Also read: Sushant Singh Rajput's 50 dreams: From sending kids to NASA to taking a trip to Antarctica Since then, Rajput has been part of some big films, that have been backed by the so-called A-listers of the film industry. Also read: Sushant Singh Rajput's ex-manager Rohini Iyer opens up about the actor, urges fans to celebrate his life With his tragic death, the narrative seems to have changed. Why Sushant Singh Rajput's death and nepotism debate should not be mixed

Actress Kangana Ranaut has accused the Hindi film industry of overlooking actor Sushant Singh Rajput's talent. The actress refused to call Sushant "mentally weak" and said that his deserving films and work were never acknowledged at award ceremonies.

In a two minute long video that has been posted on social media by her team, the actress can be seen making some strong statements.

Its caption read: "#KanganaRanaut exposes the propaganda by industry arnd #SushantSinghRajput`s tragic death &how the narrative is spun to hide how their actions pushed #Sushant to the edge. Why it`s imp to give talent their due &when celebs struggle with personal issues media to practice restraint."

In his interviews, he had expressed why the industry wasn`t accepting him. So is there no foundation of this incident?"
"He never got acknowledgment for his films, no awards for his films like `Kedarnath`, `Chhichhore` and `MS Dhoni: The Untold Story`. Films like `Gully Boy` got all the awards. "
"Sushant Singh Rajput`s demise has shaken us but there are people who are running a parallel narrative and saying that he committed suicide because he was depressed. How can a person`s mind be weak if he holds ranks in engineering entrances?" Ranaut asked.

"In his last interviews, he is clearly asking why is the industry not accepting him. He felt like a leftover. Do you feel that this does not hold importance in this incident (his demise)," she asked.

She said `Chhichhore` is the best film by the best director but "they didn`t get any acknowledgment"."We (actors with no blood relation with Bollywood stars) don`t want anything from you (Bollywood). We do our own films, why can`t you even acknowledge us?" the 33-year-old actor asked.
"This was not a suicide but a planned murder. The only mistake that Sushant made was to succumb to their planning," the `Panga` actor said. "They said that Sushant is worthless and he lost all hope. He didn`t remember what his mother told him. They wanted history to write that Sushant is weak but they won`t tell the truth. Why it`s imp to give talent their due &when celebs struggle with personal issues media to practice restraint." View this post on Instagram It is important to give talent their due. And if celebrities are struggling with personal and mental health issues, the media should try and emphasize with them, rather than making it difficult for them! A post shared by Kangana Ranaut (@team_kangana_ranaut) on Jun 15, 2020 at 2:44am PDT × Praising Sushant for his achievements like his Stanford scholarship, Kangana said, "He was a rank holder. How can his mind be weak? If you look at his last few posts, he is clearly saying, literally begging, `Watch my films. I have no Godfather. I will be taken out of the industry`. In his interviews, he had expressed why the industry wasn`t accepting him. So is there no foundation of this incident?" "He never got acknowledgment for his films, no awards for his films like `Kedarnath`, `Chhichhore` and `MS Dhoni: The Untold Story`. Films like `Gully Boy` got all the awards. " "Sushant Singh Rajput`s demise has shaken us but there are people who are running a parallel narrative and saying that he committed suicide because he was depressed. Now it is up to us to decide that who will write the history," she added. Kangana Ranaut's 'Thalaivi' to be released in theaters first

After Manikarnika, actor Kangana Ranaut has now turned director for her ambitious project `Aparajitha Ayodhya.

"The plan wasn't for me to direct the film. I started it as a project that I worked on from the concept level. I wanted to produce it and rope in another director for it," said the 'Queen' actor.

The upcoming movie, written by the 'Baahubali' scriptwriter KV Vijayendra Prasad, and bankrolled by her production house, revolves around the Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid case."I was quite busy at that time to even think of direction. However, the script that KV Vijayendra Prasad shared was that of a film set on a large canvas, somewhat on the lines of the history that I have directed before," Ranaut said in a statement.

She noted: "My collaborating partners were also keen that I direct it. Eventually, even I felt that maybe it's best if I helm this film. So, it all happened organically."

The 33-year-old actor says that she is not 'nervous' about it. "It does not make me nervous. It`s tougher when you have to carry forward someone else's vision and find your own vision somewhere in it. In this case, I have worked on this film from scratch, and it's gratifying and simple once you have the clarity of thought," she said.

The 'Tanu Weds Manu' actor noted that her complete focus will be only as a filmmaker for the film. Talking about the concept of the movie, she explained: "For me, it's not a controversial subject. I see it as a story of love, faith, and unity, and above everything, it`s a story of divinity."

In 2019, Kangana Ranaut, for the first time, co-directed the film 'Manikarnika-The Queen of Jhansi' in which she also played the lead.

Her attention to details, her makeup and costumes will make it a visual treat for the audience, they will feel like they are watching Jayalalitha herself on screen," he added. `Thalaivi` has been written by `Baahubali` and `Manikarnika` writer KV Vijayendra Prasad and `The Dirty Picture` and `Once Upon a Time in Mumbai` writer Rajat Arora. The movie will be releasing on June 26, 2020.

'Tejas' first look: Kangana Ranaut looks impressive as a fighter pilot

Of the stories and heroes that history has given us, Rani Laxmibai’s story is perhaps the most heart wrenching and heroic. A young girl, who has to take on too many responsibilities early in life out of desperation to save herself and her kingdom, and eventually becomes the heroine of her own story and inspires several generations – Rani Laxmibai’s tale of bravery is narrated to almost every child in India.

A film, made on her life, naturally would generate a lot of interest. ‘Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi’ featuring Kangana Ranaut in the titular character attempts to showcase the valour of the brave queen and thus serves the perfect platform to Ranaut to show her talent as an actor and director.

The first half an hour is just spent in establishing how our heroine is not your usual 19th-century girl. A bright girl, who can give veterans a tough fight in sword fighting, is kind to people and animals. Born to a Brahmin family in Varanasi, and then raised by a Peshwa, she is initially a tad hesitant to become a queen of a state. But as she marries King Gangadhar Rao of Jhansi, she does slip into the role of a queen easily- becoming a people’s queen who may break protocols but is a just, kind ruler.

The East India Company’s presence, meanwhile, looms large over the kingdom and everyone is aware that if the new couple does not provide an heir, the Company would take over. The couple does have a child, but he dies soon after. And in order to protect the kingdom, the king adopts a cousin’s child as his own. But as East India Company overrules its own laws and threatens to take over Jhansi, Laxmibai, now a widow, has no choice but fend for herself and her kingdom.

Co-directed by Ranaut and 'Baahubali' writer Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi, the film quite naturally, showcases Kangana in all her glory. The range of the character is long. From a naive, innocent young girl to a courageous warrior, the character goes through myriad emotions which Kangana ably performs. She is feisty, confident and a true leader. Her range is admirable- you feel for her when she loses her son, you look at her with admiration when she decides to take on the responsibilities as a queen and you cheer for her when she is on the battlefield. Kangana looks breathtaking and owns every frame that she is in.

While the film gives a glimpse into Rani Laxmibai’s historic fight with British, it grossly takes liberties with facts- portraying a rather fictional tale which is heaped with token patriotism. Here’s the thing- at the time when Queen of Jhansi went to war with the British- the concept of a consolidated country did not exist. Every king was ultimately fighting to save his own kingdom from the East India Company. Sure, she was a brave, rebellious leader with great courage- but she fought to save her kingdom- not with the intent to set an example for the future generation- as is portrayed in the film.

The film also overlooks almost every other character who in reality had a lot to do with Laxmibai’s emergence as a rebel leader. Tatya Tope, one of the most prominent leaders of the 1857 rebellion, is reduced to a caricature character in the film. So is Gangadhar Rao, the king of Jhansi. His character sketch is almost laughable. Just because the story has the woman playing a strong-willed, brave character, it doesn’t mean that her man has to be borderline effeminate or coward- as is projected in the film.

There are also certain scenes that one can understand have a certain agenda and play to the gallery and those perhaps the weakest links of the film. Even if they had stuck to the story of Laxmibai, it would have made for a heartwrenching, thought-provoking film. She was, after all, an unusual choice for a leader at that time hence her emerging as the warrior queen trying to save the kingdom from foreign rule would anyway make for an epic saga. The frills of nationalism were not needed. Her story, for time immemorial, evokes a lot of pride among the countrymen. A film celebrating her valour would have had an equal impact on the nation.

The ensemble cast comprises of some very prominent actors. There is Ankita Lokhande who plays the feisty Jhalkari Bari- a commoner who joins the struggle because of her admiration for the Queen. Bengali star Jishhu Sengupta plays the King but a poor screenplay doesn't allow him to do much with his character. Neither does Atul Kulkarni have much to do as Tatya Tope with such limited screentime. Veterans like Danny Denzongpa and Kulbhushan Kharbanda also get limited screen-time and are unable to create a lasting impression as a result. The film is written to project Kangana's talent solely and she is there in almost every scene.

While the first half stretches a bit too long and is high on melodrama, the film's second half- especially during the battle scenes- is exhilarating and exciting. Those scenes, despite blotchy VFX, are well choreographed and executed - giving the audience a sense of the catastrophe and havoc that had ensued at Jhansi. The film also has a beautiful soundtrack by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy which enhances the narrative to a great extent.

If you know and understand Indian history well, you will find yourself feeling exasperated on several occasions while watching the film. It can perhaps be enjoyed more like a fictional tale, where the two directors have taken copious amount of liberty while presenting the story of India's favourite heroine. Watch it for Kangana- it is completely her show and she doesn't disappoint.

'Manikarnika' review: It's a Kangana Ranaut show all the way

There are so many moments in director Prakash Kovelamudi's latest 'Judgementall Hai Kya' that seemed to draw references from real life. From its lines to the premise and how it portrays its lead character- the film is meta at so many levels.

The film's lead, Kangana Ranaut plays Bobby Batliwala Grewal, a half-Punjabi, half-Parsi dubbing artist who suffers from a dissociative identity disorder. She does elaborate photoshoots dressed in characters she gives her voice too and has a manager cum boyfriend Varun (the terrific Hussain Dalal) who she blames can't get her a proper role in a movie. 'Tum normal nahi ho', Varun says to Bobby right at the beginning - which serves as a forewarning to the audience on how to perceive Bobby and her antics.

She lives alone in a sprawling bungalow and is okay with the usual humdrum of her life, creating birds and flowers out of gory murder news snippets and making occasional visits to the mental asylum. Her so-called peace is disrupted when a new couple, Rima and Keshav (Amyra Dastur and Rajkummar Rao) become tenants in her house. While she is fascinated by the brooding Keshav, she is also convinced he is not what he seems to appear. Soon enough a murder takes place and Bobby is quick to blame Keshav and thus begins the chase of cat and mouse with both Bobby and Keshav trying to outdo each other as the plot takes numerous twists and turns.

Written by Kanika Dhillon, some of the film's most poignant moments seem to be drawn from Kangana's personal life. An actress who's always managed to raise eyebrows for her choice of roles as well as unhinged take on society, Kangana has seen the good and bad side of Bollywood up close and personal. She has had a love-hate relationship with many biggies in the film industry. There are moments in the film, that has Kangana's character being warned by Varun to behave properly in front of colleagues else no one would give her work- a warning that perhaps Kangana has got in real life too for speaking her mind.

While one can't help but draw parallels between the reel and real ever so often while watching the film, the taut script ensures you are glued to the seat in this psychological thriller. The film not only talks about mental health and our perception of those suffering from it- but it also subtly takes a stand on domestic violence and abuse. With a modern take on Ramayana, where Sita (Dhillon makes a cameo as a theatre actress) goes to seek Ravana herself instead of the other way round- 'Judgementall Hai Kya' gives many layers to a basic murder plot. Which is both complicated and fascinating at the same time. Sure, the many twists and turns demand your undivided attention, but in the end, it delivers a relevant message- loud and clear.

The film's twisted plot is propelled by great performances. Rao, as usual, delivers a fine, nuanced performance as a regular guy Keshav, who has to deal with too many things at the same time and outsmart Bobby and her crazy. Then there are delightful, strong performances by Hussain Dalal (who gets the best lines in the film), Amrita Puri, Jimmy Sheirgill and Amyra Dastur who in limited screen time are impactful. But the film rests on Kangana Ranaut who is in terrific form as the loony, troubled Bobby.

Bobby is not an easy person to deal with. She suffers from acute psychosis and has multiple voices speaking to her at all time. And Kangana portrays her so well that at some point you feel that two are the same people. A scene where she describes to the cops the presence of a cockroach in her house is outstanding. Just notice the glint her eyes while she explains how the bug has a role to play in the murder that has taken place. Rao ably matches with her in every scene and it's such a delight to watch the two supremely talented actors perform and outdo each other.

A special word for Daniel B. George's score which is just right for a thriller that has so many twists and turns and Prakash Kumar's camera work which beautifully captures the dark spaces inside Bobby's head. While the film has enough quirk and mystery, the second half seems a bit stretched where the narrative slackens a bit. There are also a few oddities in the plot which don't add up to the overall story but those can be overlooked for its story and the performances.

'Judgementall Hai Kya' is not a very easy watch but it is still worth your time. It is twisted, complicated and demands your attention but still manages to crack you up with its quirk. More importantly, it drives home a very relevant point- that what we perceive as normal may not be so normal after all.

'Judgementall Hai Kya' review: Kangana Ranaut is terrific in this twisted thriller

The Indian government recently announced its decision to confer the Padma Shri to singer Adnan Sami. While the news was welcomed by the singer himself, several others raised objection and questioned the government's decision.

The singer has reacted to the controversy around the award and stated that he has become a political target. While speaking to a news agency, Sami said, "I am not a politician, I am a musician... I have become a target of politics. Some people try to use me as a subject to create a stir, but otherwise as far as Citizenship Act is concerned, what my basic understanding is that it is meant for those minorities who were persecuted in the theocratic states of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh."

Terming the Pada award as a "matter of pride" for his family and him, the singer thanked the government and his fans for their support.

On a question related to his father, Sami said, "My father was a fighter pilot in Pakistan during the 1965 war. He was an honourable soldier. He served his duty for his country as a patriotic and professional soldier. He was honoured for his patriotism. In what part of the world is a son held responsible for his father`s deeds. This does not happen anywhere. This award has been given to me for my art."

Sami was born to Pakistani parents and moved to India for work and later took Indian citizenship. Sami said that before his father passed away in 2009, he had informed him that he was considering taking Indian citizenship."When I told my father that I wanted to take Indian citizenship, he said that I have lived my life and this is now your life, you stay where you feel comfortable and don`t think about me. He passed away in 2009. Unfortunately, he didn`t get to see this, I became an Indian citizen in 2016. I know that his blessings are with me," Sami said.

"Of the 34 years of my professional career, I have given 20 years to India. Behind this (getting Indian citizenship) is my 18 years of struggle. I was rejected twice, but I did not give up and fulfilled all the conditions to finally become an Indian citizen. If the government of India is conferring me with the Padma Shri today, they are giving it for my 34-year long career, of which 20 were in India, and my contribution to music in India," Sami further added.

Kangana Ranaut, Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor are the other names from Bollywood who feature in the winners list.

Kangana Ranaut came out strong in criticising the violence and destruction of public property amid the ongoing anti-CAA protest across India.

"What gives you the right to burn buses, trains and create ruckus in the country? A bus costs around Rs 70-80 lakh, and that is not a small amount. 'Panga' trailer: Kangana Ranaut's kabbadi drama looks powerful and relevant

A day after Kangana Ranaut came out strongly at protestors for destroying buses and public property, Delhi's deputy CM Manish Sisodia on Tuesday took to Twitter to school the actress about taxes.

While speaking at the trailer launch event of her new film 'Panga' in Mumbai, Kangana had said that only a few people pay tax in India while rest are dependent on them. "What gives you the right to burn buses, trains and create ruckus in the country? A bus costs around Rs 70-80 lakh and that is not a small amount," the actress had said.

"We`re still hooked to the pre-Independence era, where our country was under siege or bondage, and people had captured us by force or the gun. Going on strikes, shutting down the country or not paying taxes against those people was considered cool,"Kangana had added.

Giving her a lesson in basic economics, the Delhi Finance Minister explained to her that even a daily wage earner has to pay indirect taxes, if not direct.

In a series of tweets, Sisodia said, "Violence and damage to public property is wrong in every situation, it is against both humanity and law. ..But this country is not dependent on tax of only 3 per cent people. Every person in the country pays a tax, from a daily wage worker, even a daily wage labourer to a billionaire."

Sisodia also slammed her reminding her of the contribution made by a daily wager, who contributes to her personal income, "And yes! Even a normal daily wage labourer? when going to the cinema? contributes to the coffers of the movie stars and even pays (entertainment) tax for this country. Now think who is dependent on whom?"

Hours later, Kangana's sister and her spokesperson Rangoli Chandel hit back Sisodia on Twitter asking him to not twist her statement.

"Sir (addressing Sisodia) ji Kangana is clearly talking about income tax here, please don`t twist her statements either way please don`t burn public property. If you use highways pay toll tax or buy salt and pay tax that`s not income tax, please know if you use resources you pay cos government is cultivating it from collective money.
