Kangana Ranaut's spy-thriller 'Dhaakad' gets a release date

A day after Kangana Ranaut announced her new film 'Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda', the film has run into troubled waters. Author Ashish Kaul, who has written the book 'Didda: The Warrior Queen of Kashmir', has accused Kangana Ranaut of copyright infringement.

Ranaut and producer Kamal Jain on Thursday announced a sequel to her 2019 release, 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi'.

The sequel will reportedly tell the true story of Didda, who was the Queen of Kashmir and defeated Mehmood Ghaznavi twice.
Despite being struck by polio in one leg, she was one of the greatest warriors.

Kaul said not much has been written about Didda in the history and he believes Ranaut has based the new film's story on his book 'Didda: Kashmir Ki Yodha Rani'.

He said he was commissioned by Rupa Publications to write the book about Didda in 2018 and it was published in the English language.

Kaul alleges that he had approached Ranaut to write a foreword for the Hindi version of the book in September last year.

"I wrote a mail to her giving her the entire story that she has quoted yesterday. I had asked her if she would be associated with the book for the foreword, there was no talk for the film then. But we didn't receive any reply from her.

"Whatever she is saying about the story is available only in my book only. She could have asked me if she wants to do a film based on my book but she didn't approach me," Kaul told a news agency.

When he took the matter with Ranaut and the film's producer, they denied that they are using his story for the movie, he said, adding that he will be seeking legal counsel to "protect my rights".

"I will do whatever it takes to protect my rights and consult legal experts in coming days," he said. Ranaut and Jain have not commented on the matter so far.

The recent turn of events after Indian jewellery brand Tanishq posted an advertisement and then pulled it back have really kept the internet abuzz. While some find the advertisement in not so good taste, others stand by the brand for its messaging.

The advert shows a Hindu South Indian girl married into a Muslim family celebrate her baby shower with in-laws. Some factions of the public found the ad promoting “love-jihad” while others support it, calling it an ad that promotes “brotherhood” and “unity”.

After a severe criticism on the first day of the ad going live, the brand pulled down the ad and issued a statement: “The idea behind the Ekavatam campaign is to celebrate the coming together of people from different walks of life, local communities and families during these challenging times and celebrate the beauty of oneness. This film has stimulated divergent and severe reactions, contrary to its very objective. We are deeply saddened with the inadvertent stirring of emotions and withdraw this film keeping in mind the hurt sentiments and well being of our employees, partners and store staff.”

Why is she at their mercy? Why so meek and timid in her own house? Shameful.” Actor Richa Chadha, on the other hand, found the ad “beautiful”.

The recent turn of events after Indian jewellery brand Tanishq posted an advertisement and then pulled it back have really kept the internet abuzz. While some find the advertisement in not so good taste, others stand by the brand for its messaging.

We are deeply saddened with the inadvertent stirring of emotions and withdraw this film keeping in mind the hurt sentiments and well being of our employees, partners and store staff.” pic.twitter.com/OyjAyld6Wp — Tanishq (@TanishqJewelry) October 13, 2020 × Now, many actors from Bollywood have responded to the ad. The first of them was Divya Dutta who happens to have also lent her voice for the advertisement. She supported the ad and tweeted: “It's sad, it's taken off air”. Kangana Ranaut accused the brand of not only supporting “love-jihad” but also being “sexist” as according to her, the woman is seen as coy and shy. She wrote, “The concept wasn’t as much a problem as the execution was,the fearful Hindu girl apologetically expressing her gratitude to her in-laws for the acceptance of her faith, Isn’t she the woman of the house? Why is she at their mercy? Why so meek and timid in her own house? Shameful.” Actor Richa Chadha, on the other hand, found the ad “beautiful”. Thalaivi: Kangana Ranaut back on set after 7 months

Riding the coattails of success has been a time-tested strategy for opportunists. Being an opportunist is not a bad thing, after all, it's all about timing and seeing an opening that furthers your cause. Recent history is filled with such instances.

Think about ‘India Against Corruption’ movement that followed Nirbhaya protests. This movement captured the imagination of the nation like nothing else in the near past of our polity.

Main bhi Anna, everyone was Anna. Do you know Anna Hazare had gone onto another fast in February 2019? He ended it after 5 days. No media coverage. No news. Nothing. This fast was not a TV event. Why?

The coattails of ‘India Against Corruption’ in 2019 were ridden by Arvind Kejriwal, leading to birth of AAP. He is on TV every day, on media everywhere if you are in Delhi. He is now a full time politician and Anna doesn’t make news anymore.

Cut to the cluster-mess that is the Sushant Singh Rajput suicide/murder/drugs media event. It started with questioning his suicide and now we have Bollywood starlets fighting and accusing Maharashtra CM.

We have TV anchors frothing at the sides challenging Salman Khan, Sonia Gandhi and everyone you can think of in between.

You have Jaya Bachchan fighting for image of the film industry. Another film star-turned-MP Ravi Kishan is asking for cleaning up drugs from Bollywood. It is just hard to keep up.

Our attention spans are so short now, we don’t notice how the trending trends morph into something else. #IamAnna became #MainHoonAamAadmi and #JusticeforSushant became #JusticeForKangana.

Of course, we are part of the process, we are the ones being manipulated to suit someone else’s agenda.

Yesterday it was nepotism that killed Sushant, then it was Rhea who drugged Sushant. It all changed to Kangana slamming insiders, the insiders then gave way to debate on politicos. Politicos abuse and misuse power so today it's about justice for Kangana.

Who knows what's next? Nothing is impossible. Even daily soap writers don’t change plots this quickly.

And the joke is on you. Yes you, my dear reader. You, your friends and your online circle who pass along your judgements on WhatsApp groups.

You jump from channel to channel, feasting on people tearing into each other wondering will Rhea go to jail? Is she innocent? Who all are in the cabal? You pass your opinions as frantic, crusading TV reporters dish it out.

You are responsible. Stop watching it. When TRPs dip, the channels will move on. Do this now.

Today my home is broken, tomorrow your ego will be broken. This is the wheel of time. Remember this. It doesn`t always remain the same. I think you have done me a huge favour because I always knew what the Kashmiri Pandits have gone through, today I felt it." She then promised to make a film on Kashmir and Ayodhya. "Today I promise to the country that I will not only make a film on Ayodhya but also on Kashmir, and awaken the citizens of the country, because I knew this would happen to us but if it has happened with me it means something. Uddhav Thackeray, it`s good that this hatred and terrorism happened with me because it means something. Jai Hind. Jai Maharashtra," she said. तुमने जो किया अच्छा किया 🙂#DeathOfDemocracy pic.twitter.com/TBZiYytSEw — Kangana Ranaut (@KanganaTeam) September 9, 2020 × On Wednesday, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation started demolishing her Bandra property for alleged unauthorized modifications and extensions.
Two months after Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's untimely death, the debate around nepotism refuses to die down. Since June 14, when Sushant was found dead at his Mumbai apartment, the dark and murky side of showbiz has come to light tarnishing the image of one of India's biggest soft power, Bollywood.
On Friday, the Producers Guild of India shared an open letter on its official Twitter page and said while it accepted that the film industry was not perfect, it was pertinent to understand that Bollywood was one of the most important sources of soft power for the nation at a global level.

Following theSushant's death celebrities like Kangana Ranaut have opened up about nepotism and drug abuse in Bollywood.
"A picture has been painted of the industry as a terrible place for outsiders to aspire to; a place that treats those who dare to enter it with contempt and derision; a murky den of substance abuse and criminality. This narrative is salacious enough for the media to exploit to great effect in order to boost its ratings, readership and page views."
