In a massive boost to the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/royal-challengers-bangalore-rcb" rel="dofollow">Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)</a>, the overseas duo of Romario Shepherd and Liam Livingstone has rejoined the franchise ahead of the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/ipl-2025" rel="dofollow">IPL 2025</a> resumption on Saturday (May 17). With the tournament restarting following a nine-day suspension due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the RCB receives this morale-pushing news amid foreign players' logistical concerns surrounding the international calendar.
Shepherd is among a handful of West Indies players who returned to India alongside the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/kolkata-knight-riders" rel="dofollow">Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)</a> duo of Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and their mentor, Dwayne Bravo. While Shepherd is part of West Indies&rsquo; white-ball squad for the away England series starting May 29 - the day IPL 2025 gets underway, Cricket West Indies (CWI) is yet to clarify if all those picked for the international series leave the IPL 2025 midway.
On the other hand, Livingstone has also rejoined the franchise, which sits in second place on the points table with 16 points from 11 contested matches. Liam&rsquo;s England teammate Jacob Bethell has already rejoined the team; though the rookie all-rounder is part of the England squad for the home series against WI, the ECB dropped Liam from both ODI and T20I squads.&nbsp;
Bethell will remain available for RCB&rsquo;s next two matches - against KKR and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) &ndash; but fly home before the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) tie. Per the latest reports, the ECB and several other boards decided against extending NOCs to their players beyond the decided date earlier (May 25) to honour international commitments.
<h2>No words on the overseas pace duo</h2>
On the other hand, the RCB awaits confirmation on its overseas pace duo of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/josh-hazlewood" rel="dofollow">Josh Hazlewood</a> and Lungi Ngidi.&nbsp;
Hazlewood is nursing a shoulder niggle he suffered earlier this month and would have missed the tournament anyway had it not been interrupted. Ngidi, who made his RCB debut against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and is also part of South Africa&rsquo;s WTC Final squad against Australia, might remain available for just two matches before linking with the South Africa squad.
The WTC-bound South African players will leave the IPL by May 25.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, Phil Salt, who missed the last two games for the franchise due to illness, will remain available for the remainder of the tournament. He is part of the T20I squad against the West Indies, which begins June 6, three days after the IPL 2025 final.&nbsp;

Despite talks of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/bcci" rel="dofollow">BCCI</a> resuming <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/ipl-2025" rel="dofollow">IPL 2025</a> following suspending it for security concerns, the reports of several overseas players and coaching staff, mainly Australians and South Africans - the two teams involved in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2025, are contemplating returning for the remainder of the tournament.
Though most foreign players returned home shortly after the Indian Cricket Board halted proceedings, barring Punjab Kings&rsquo; players, all are unlikely to return despite the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/india-pak-ceasefire-bcci-likely-to-resume-ipl-2025-from-next-week-report-cricket-operation-sindoor-overseas-players-9055897" rel="dofollow">BCCI planning to resume it from next week onwards</a>.
BCCI suspended IPL 2025 for a week on Friday (May 9) due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, ordering everyone, including the foreign contingent, to disperse before the situation turns ugly. However, to everyone&rsquo;s delight, both countries agreed to an understanding to stop military operations the next day (May 10), giving hope for its resumption.&nbsp;
Although most overseas players returned home or were already on their way back before the ceasefire statement came out, the BCCI made it tougher for all teams by <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/cricket-ipl-2025-asks-teams-to-assemble-all-players-by-tuesday-more-double-headers-in-revised-schedule-report-9057633" rel="dofollow">asking them to arrange for their return before next Tuesday (May 13)</a> so they could resume IPL 2025 by Friday (May 16).
With several changes on the cards, including staging more doubleheaders to compensate for the days lost and pushing back the final&rsquo;s date (from May 25 to May 30), the WTC Final-bound Aussies and South African players are caught in the logistical challenge, given both teams will fight out for the coveted trophy starting June 11 at Lord&rsquo;s.
<h2>Hazlewood doubtful for RCB</h2>
Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood is the third-highest wicket-taker with 18 scalps from ten contested games in IPL 2025 but remains doubtful for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder niggle.&nbsp;
The right-arm quick missed RCB&rsquo;s last home game against CSK on May 3 and was a doubtful starter for their next away tie against LSG on May 9 before the tournament was suspended; he, however, was to miss the remainder of IPL 2025 had it continued.
As per ESPNcricinfo, Cricket Australia (CA) remains unbothered by Hazlewood&rsquo;s latest injury, as they would pick him in the Test squad for the WTC Final 2025.
Besides him, the three WTC Final-bound players, SRH captain Pat Cummins and opener Travis Head and Delhi Capitals&rsquo; seamer Mitchell Starc, also have decisions to make, considering the tight window between the IPL 2025 final and the start of the WTC Final.&nbsp;
On the other hand, the participation of the South African players for the remainder of IPL 2025 shall be decided at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) board meeting on Sunday. As of now, the board has already issued NOCs to the players till May 25, with the board stating that the safety and security of players is non-negotiable.&nbsp;

IPL 2025 | As RCB lose again at home, Josh Hazlewood says team is 'slow on learning'

Following Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) 50-run defeat to <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/royal-challengers-bengaluru">Royal Challengers Bengaluru</a> (RCB) at Chepauk in the IPL 2025, skipper <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/ruturaj-gaikwad" rel="dofollow">Ruturaj Gaikwad</a> admitted that fielding errors and poor powerplay batting proved costly.
Tight spells from pacers <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/josh-hazlewood">Josh Hazlewood</a> and Yash Dayal helped RCB defend a total of 170, marking their first win at CSK&rsquo;s home ground since 2008. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Gaikwad acknowledged that 170 was a 'par total' on the surface but felt his side&rsquo;s lapses in the field made a crucial difference.

"It was a bad day in the fielding; it cost us really badly," Gaikwad said. "When you are chasing 20 extra runs on a slightly sticky wicket, you have to bat differently in the powerplay."
The CSK skipper also pointed out that crucial dropped catches gave RCB batters extra opportunities. "They just kept going. We dropped catches at crucial times, and then an extra six or boundary would follow. The momentum kept going and did not stop till the final over," he added.
Gaikwad urged his team to bounce back as they head to Guwahati for their next match against Rajasthan Royals. "We are going to have bad days in batting and bowling in a tournament like IPL, but fielding has to improve a lot. We should come back stronger in that department," he signed off.
<h2>As a team, we were outstanding: Hazlewood</h2>
After Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) secured a 50-run win CSK, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood shared his thoughts during the post-match presentation.
Hazlewood expressed satisfaction with both his personal performance and the team's collective effort, emphasising their adaptability to varying conditions. He also credited the team's energy and the inclusion of left-arm pacer Yash Dayal for their success.
"The ball is coming out nicely, and I'm feeling fresh. As a team, we were outstanding. We assessed the conditions well against KKR and did the same tonight. This wicket was a bit tricky&mdash;two-paced and up and down&mdash;so we focused on hitting that in-between length. The energy at RCB is always fantastic, and it has positively impacted our fielding, giving us a real lift," Hazlewood said.

This wicket was a bit tricky—two-paced and up and down—so we focused on hitting that in-between length. The energy at RCB is always fantastic, and it has positively impacted our fielding, giving us a real lift," Hazlewood said. (With inputs from agencies)

Champions Trophy 2025: Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood ruled out in major blow for Australia

Ace Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood is frustrated with a ‘random side strain’ that ruled him out of the remainder of the India Test series. Hazlewood suffered a strain on his right side during the just-concluded Gabba Test, ruling him out of the game and the series. Scott Boland will replace him in the XI for the Boxing Day Test at the iconic MCG starting December 26.

“Just frustrating really. Ticked every box heading into the (third) Test; I could understand if it was my side again, but it was just a random calf strain,” Hazlewood said during a chat with 7NEWS. “It’s just the timing again, they are only little 2-3 week injuries, it’s just the timing of it and missing big games is the frustrating thing, Obviously, do a deep dive into it and see what we can come up with … feels pretty random.”

“I’ve had a history of sides and calves; they’re probably the two things that have kept me out for the majority over the last four years. But yeah, I sort of just keep adding another layer to the defence, hopefully, get back into the gym, I’ve ticked a lot of boxes over the last 12 months,” the seamer continued.

<h2>Josh eyes return in Sri Lanka Tests</h2>

Considering Hazlewood will not return until 100% fit, the seamer expressed his desire to make a comeback for the away Sri Lanka Tests early next year.&nbsp;

Though Australia still leads India on the chart for teams with better chances of directly sealing the WTC Final 2025 qualification, they must win at least two of the four remaining Tests to ensure a smooth ride into the finals.&nbsp;

“That’s probably the goal; just take it as it comes over the next few weeks. No rush to get anything in a hurry, it’s just getting everything right. Probably take a few extra days here and there. Ticking things off and getting everything right,” Hazlewood noted.

Meanwhile, the five-match series between Australia and India is tied at 1-1, with two games remaining.&nbsp;

Should the hosts win the remaining two matches, they will directly qualify for the final, but if India wins and completes the three-peat, they will reach their third straight WTC Final.&nbsp;

New Delhi, India
Australia have been dealt a major blow as pacer Josh Hazlewood is out of the remainder of the rain-marred Gabba Test in Brisbane. Hazlewood hurt his right calf during Australia's warm-ups ahead of Day 4 of the Gabba Test, on Tuesday morning (Dec 17). As a result, he bowled only a solitary over in the first session before leaving the field. Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed that the wily speedster will miss the remainder of the third Test, where India is on the cusp of following on in reply to Australia's 445. In addition, he might miss the last two Tests of the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT).
The 33-year-old missed the second Test, at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, due to a side strain. In his absence, Scott Boland came into the playing XI and impressed with match figures of 5 for 105. With Hazlewood set to miss the remainder of the series, Boland will likely replace him again.

Australia's next series, and their last in the ongoing 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, is a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka, early next year. Thus, Hazlewood will be eager to regain full fitness ahead of the tour to the subcontinent (even though he might under bowl in the spin-friendly conditions), with one eye on the WTC final (in mid-June 2025). Meanwhile, Boland will likely have another go at the Indian batters in the ongoing BGT edition Down Under.
At present, the third Test is heading towards a draw or a win for Australia. Opting to bowl first, Rohit Sharma-led India conceded 445 as Travis Head (152) and Steve Smith (101) stitched a massive 241-run stand for the fourth wicket. In reply, India are reeling at 252-9, at the time of publishing this report, but have avoided the follow-on before stumps on Day 4 on Tuesday.
The five-match Test series is currently tied at 1-1.

BGT 2024/25: Josh Hazlewood ruled out of remainder of Gabba Test, likely to miss last two games

Australia have been dealt a fresh injury blow on Day 4 of the Gabba Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series after Josh Hazlewood sat out due to calf soreness. Playing at the Gabba on Tuesday (Dec 17), Hazlewood complained of calf soreness in the opening session of the day before leaving the field. Cricket Australia later confirmed that the star pacer will have a scan to reveal the extent of the injury. Despite him not being available, Australia are top of their game as India look to avoid back-to-back defeats.

<h2>Hazlewood sits out with injury</h2>

Having opted to miss the Adelaide Test, Hazlewood returned to the Playing XI for the Gabba contest. However, with him complaining of calf soreness, Cricket Australia’s decision to include him in the Test match has backfired big time. Interestingly, according to International Cricket Council (ICC) guidelines, a player cannot bat (unless final batter) or bowl for the duration of time he/she has spent out of the ground due to medical reasons.

So in case Hazlewood does return, he will have to spend considerable time on the field if he is to bowl again for the Aussies.

So far, Hazlewood has six wickets in the BGT and will look to continue his impressive form in case he is fit.

But if he is not able to continue, Scott Boland and Michael Neser will be in line to take Hazlewood’s place in the Playing XI.

Boland played in the second Test match in Adelaide and scalped five wickets including the prize wickets of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

At the time of writing, rain again played spoilsport as India were 180/6 and still trailed by 265 runs in the first innings. India still need 65 runs to avoid follow-on while there are only a maximum of five sessions remaining in the match. As things stand, India’s chances of winning the Test match are all but over with draw being the best outcome.

Thus, Hazlewood will be eager to regain full fitness ahead of the tour to the subcontinent (even though he might under bowl in the spin-friendly conditions), with one eye on the WTC final (in mid-June 2025). Australia captain Pat Cummins confirmed that Josh Hazlewood will return to the playing XI for the third BGT Test against India at the Gabba in Brisbane starting Saturday (Dec 14). The veteran seamer suffered a side strain following the conclusion of the series opener in Perth, missing the Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide, which the hosts won by ten wickets. Hazlewood was replaced by Scott Boland, who picked five wickets in the second match, in the final XI for the third Test.

In the lead-up to the Gabba Test, Hazlewood underwent several fitness tests during the week. Unlike how both teams prepared on the centre wicket in the WACA simulation ahead of the Perth tie, Hazlewood had short-run ups and no spare wicket to train in Brisbane.&nbsp;

Instead, Hazlewood went out to the Allan Border Field on Thursday (Dec 12), bowling full throttle and training alongside teammate Mitchell Starc under the watchful eyes of bowling coach Daniel Vettori.

"He's had no hiccups. He had a really good bowl yesterday and a bowl in Adelaide a couple of days previous. The medical team is super confident,” Captain Cummins said ahead of the third Test.&nbsp;

At home, Boland averages 13.54, with the skipper hinting at his inclusion in the XI for any of the final two matches. Given how he performed at the iconic MCG against England on his Test debut, picking six wickets for just seven runs, Cummins informed Boland to prepare for the Boxing Day game against India.&nbsp;

"It's tough [leaving him out], he was fantastic in Adelaide," Cummins said.

"Unfortunately, he spent quite a bit of time on the bench over the last 18 months, and whenever he plays he's fantastic. Shame for Scotty, but still a fair bit to play out in the series, so I'd be surprised if he doesn't get another crack at some point."

"[We told him] it's about preparing for the MCG because there's a good chance we might need you. History suggests there's always some form of natural attrition throughout a Test series. A good thing [is], he's probably played a Test earlier in the series than he maybe thought. Showed that his standards are still super high. BGT: Josh Hazlewood returns from injury as Australia announces playing XI for Gabba Test

Former Australia pacer Brett Lee shared his pick between Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland ahead of the third Test, of the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), versus India at The Gabba, Brisbane. Hazlewood played the series opener in Perth but missed the following Test, in Adelaide, due to injury (side strain). With him out of the playing XI, Pat Cummins-led hosts brought in Scott Boland for the pink-ball contest. With Hazlewood expected to be fit, Lee shared his choice between Boland and the former.

<h2>'For me, Josh Hazlewood slips straight back in'</h2>

Lee said on Fox Cricket, "Look it’s a tough one but you’d have to go back on form and what Josh Hazlewood has done. For me, Josh Hazlewood slips straight back in. If he’s fully fit he gets the new ball or at least is definitely back in the team."

He further opined, "It’s unfortunate for Scott Boland because when he’s had his opportunity he’s nailed it. I look at Scott Boland and I probably think he’s a bit like MacGill playing in the Warne era. MacGill took 200 Test wickets bowling when Shane Warne was either injured or out for other reasons. So he was a quality, quality bowler."

"Boland could be in any team around the world. Any playing nation. But unfortunately, when you’ve got Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood, they’re still doing the business and they’re in his way at the moment. It’s nothing against Boland because he’s bowled the house down," added Lee.

Hazlewood had a good outing in the Perth Test, which Australia lost by 295 runs. He ended with a five-wicket match haul. Boland, on the other hand, also had an impressive run in Adelaide, with match figures of 5 for 105. Cummins &amp; Co. won the day-night Test by ten wickets, riding on Travis Head's 140, Mitchell Starc's six-fer in the first innings and captain's 5 for 57 in the second essay.

The third Test kicks off on December 14 (Saturday) with the ongoing BGT edition interestingly poised at 1-1.&nbsp;

BGT: Josh Hazlewood or Scott Boland? Brett Lee shares his pick for crucial Brisbane Test vs India

Ace Australian seamer Josh Hazlewood is nearing full fitness but has asked for another 24 hours to decide on his availability for the Gabba Test against India starting December 14. Hazlewood missed the second game in Adelaide due to a minor side strain, with backup Scott Boland picked in the XI. Though Boland returned with five wickets across both innings, including removing Yashasvi Jaiswal on his first ball in the second, he will likely make way for Josh should he declare fit.

Josh bowled on the centre wicket at the Adelaide Oval on Monday (Dec 9), which could have been day four of the second BGT, which Australia won by 10 wickets inside three days.

The right-arm pacer bowled top pace during his lengthy recovery examination, looking to replicate match conditions. After a brief spell, he cooled down before returning to ensure his fitness across multiple stints ahead of the third Test.

"I think it'll be how I pull up in the 24 hours following it really," Hazlewood said, as quoted by cricket.com.au.

"It’s just that repetitive (action), and obviously two spells make a big difference. Cooling down pretty much fully and then going again in the same day, and the intensity has got to be right up there as well.

"So a few boxes to tick, but it's probably the 24 hours that follow, and pulling up again the next day and then thinking 'yeah, I'd be right to go again if I had to',” he continued.

Reflecting more on the nature of the injury, Hazlewood said though he sustained side strains throughout his career, the current setback wasn’t as damaging, and that he could have risked playing through it in Adelaide had it been the last Test of the summer.

Considering Australia and India will face off in three more Tests in this series in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, respectively, with what is on the stake – a spot in the WTC 2025 Final, Hazlewood wouldn’t have risked his injury in Adelaide. With plenty to play for in the remainder of this series, Hazlewood would like to play when 100%.

"It's not necessarily your typical side strain, which I've had a couple in my career," Hazlewood said of his most recent setback. "It’s caused me a lot of trouble over the last few years, but perfect prep this year (heading into the first Test).

"If this (Adelaide) was the last Test of the summer, I could have potentially run the gauntlet and played.

"I think I would have been in a pretty bad state by the end of the game, even though it was only a short game but it just wasn't quite right,” he continued.

<h2>‘Red ball in Gabba suits us’</h2>

Hazlewood was part of the Test XIs which lost to India and West Indies, respectively, at the Gabba on the past two occasions. Although India’s batting masterclass cost them a defeat in Brisbane the first time, Hazlewood feels Australia failing to apply them with the pink ball against the Windies resulted in their loss earlier this year.

Expressing composure over returning to the Gabba playing with the red ball, Hazlewood said, “We always play pretty well in Brissy (but) the last Test was obviously pink ball."

"The pink ball gets quite soft in Brisbane quite early on, with the wicket being quite hard, it doesn't have that thatch grass that we see here at Adelaide.

"So we're back to the red ball there, which I think suits us.

"We obviously haven't won recently up there, but it's a place we like to play,” Hazlewood said.

BGT – Josh Hazlewood sets deadline before committing to Gabba Test availability

Australia skipper Pat Cummins confirmed the Playing XI for his side as they host India in the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test on Friday (Dec 6). As expected, pacer Scott Boland has replaced Josh Hazlewood, who was struggling with a minor injury. He remains the only change in the side, as the skipper confirmed the news. Australia has retained faith in the rest of the squad as they try to continue their flawless record in the pink-ball Test.

On the eve of the pink-ball Test, skipper Cummins spoke&nbsp;to the media confirming the inclusion of the Victoria pacer in the side. Boland was in the squad for the Perth Test but was overlooked in the favour of ‘fab-three’ of Hazlewood, Cummins and Mitchell Starc. However, Hazlewood is struggling with a "low-grade left side injury.

Australia lost the opening Test in Perth by a record 295 runs and dropped from the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings. The defeat saw the hosts trail 0-1 in the five-match series and will look to bounce back in the pink-ball Test. Incredibly, Australia have never lost a day-night Test while India’s only defeat in the pink-ball against the Aussies came in 2020.

BGT 2024-25: Scott Boland replaces Josh Hazlewood as Pat Cummins confirms Playing XI for Adelaide Test

After Australia's 295-run loss versus India in the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy opening Test&nbsp;in Perth, pacer Josh Hazlewood's comments made heads turn in the post-match presser. When asked to comment on the massive loss, Hazlewood brought the focus on the batters as they failed in both the innings.

He said, "You probably have to ask one of the batters that question probably, I am sort of relaxing and trying to get a bit of treatment, and I am looking mostly to next Test."

His remark prompted former cricketers like Ravi Shastri and David Warner stating that there might be a rift in the Australian camp, following batters' flop show in Perth.

However, Travis Head has rubbished all such claims ahead of the second Test in Adelaide, starting on Dec 6.

<h2>'One thing with body language and divide and all the stuff that comes out when you face a loss'</h2>

In a press-conference, Head said, "There's most of the dive when we're winning as well. I think that's the one thing with body language and divide and all the stuff that comes out when you face a loss, that this team's been together three or four years, and we were winning. I think it's not much too dissimilar. So yeah, the guys get along really well. We hold high expectations for both sides."

He added, "It's a very individualised sport. So batters want to hold our own. We know the bowl. We know how good our bowlers have been for us in the past, and they've got us out of trouble a lot. So, as a batting group, we know that if we can get enough runs on the ball, we put ourselves in a great position. So as a batter myself, I try to hold a lot of pride in what I do and knowing that if I can set it up for the big boys, that they can knock it down for us."

BGT 2024/25: All not well in Australian camp? Travis Head reacts to Josh Hazlewood's comments

Australia seamer Scott Boland said&nbsp;the hosts need not press the panic button after losing the BGT opener to India in Perth. The first Test ended horrendously for the Aussies (losing by 295 runs) despite reducing India to 150 in the first innings. Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah guided the visitors’ home, marking their first win at the Optus Stadium and Australia’s first loss. India leads the five-match series 1-0.

“There’s definitely not panic stations in our change rooms. There’s obviously going to be some chats around individual performances, and everyone wants to perform really well every game they play. But it’s like, we’ve lost one game. It’s not toys out of the cot, I don’t think,” Boland said ahead of the India vs Prime Minister’s XI tie in Canberra.&nbsp;

“We’ve spoken as a team about our plans for all the different Indian batters. I won’t tell you those, but we’ve got pretty set plans,” he added.

Meanwhile, with ace pacer Josh Hazlewood ruled out of the second Test in Adelaide, a Day/Night affair starting December 6, Boland is a hot favourite to replace him in the XI. Though he revealed he hasn’t played many games this summer, the right-arm pacer is confident of making inroads in his first Test against India at home.

“Obviously, I haven’t played a heap of cricket at the start of this season, but I feel like I’ve played enough cricket to feel like I’m in a really good spot. My body’s feeling really good now. I had a couple of niggles that were a little bit sore, but knee and foot are feeling really good, and I’m confident how the ball’s coming out.”

“Our last net session in Perth was for me and Josh Inglis, we went pink ball for quite a few overs. So getting it in the hand then and then obviously the overs we can get in probably tomorrow by the look of this weather will be valuable as well,” he continued.&nbsp;

<h2>Boland readies for BGT debut</h2>

Boland last featured in a Test in July 2023 (during Ashes) and is gearing up for a fresh start this summer. The right-arm seamer is part of the Prime Minister’s XI, looking forward to bowling a few overs under the light to get ready for the marquee Adelaide Test.&nbsp;

With Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins accompanying Boland in the second game, Australia will have their game plan set to put India down and announce their comeback in this series.&nbsp;

“There’s definitely not panic stations in our change rooms. There’s obviously going to be some chats around individual performances, and everyone wants to perform really well every game they play. But it’s like, we’ve lost one game. It’s not toys out of the cot, I don’t think,” Boland said ahead of the India vs Prime Minister’s XI tie in Canberra. “We’ve spoken as a team about our plans for all the different Indian batters. I won’t tell you those, but we’ve got pretty set plans,” he added. BGT 2024/25: Scott Boland urges Australia not to press panic button after Perth Test shocker

Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test against India in a blow to home team after their 295-run defeat in the first Test in Perth. The second Test, a day-night match to be played with pink ball, is scheduled to start on December 6. The board defined Hazlewood's unavailability due to 'low grade left side injury.'&nbsp;

Cricket Australia has added Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett, both still to make their Test debut, to the squad for the Adelaide Test. It is, however, Scott Boland, who is expected to replace Hazlewood for the Test. Boland was also in the 13-man squad for Perth Test.

He also played a pivotal role against India in Adelaide last time, taking 5/8 as the visitors were bowled out for a mere 36 in their second innings.

His replacement Boland, however, has a stellar home Test record with 28 wickets in six games. Boland is also part of Prime Minister's XI side playing against India in a two-day practice game from November 30 to December 1.

Australia had previously added all-rounder Beau Webster to the squad as well - taking their total strength to 16.

BGT 2024-25: Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood out of pink-ball Adelaide Test

Australia skipper Pat Cummins has dismissed the rumours of any kind of divide in the team after the loss in first Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test by 295 runs. Cummins' comments came in response to some snide comments made by teammate Josh Hazlewood after day 3 of play in Perth, Australla.

"You probably have to ask one of the batters that question. I'm sort of relaxing and trying to get a bit of physio and a bit of treatment, and I'm probably looking mostly towards the next Test and what plans we can do against these batters," Hazlewood had told the media after Australia finished day 3 of the Test at 12/3 in chase of record 534.

Hazlewood's comments could be in reference to the failure of Australia's top order across both innings, especially Marnus Labuschagne, who was given some protection as Pat Cummins came out to bat in dying moments of day 3 ahead of him as nightwatchman despite bowling for nearly two days. Both of them, however, went back in the hut the same day.

Cummins, however, was clear that there's no rift in the team and the side remains a close-knit group.

"I don't know what Joshy (Hazlewood) said, but no, not at all (division). There's plenty of times where the batters have dragged us bowlers out of tight situations, and we've done the same. So it's a really tight unit. It's probably one of the tightest teams I've ever played with," Cummins said in contrast to suggestions made by former Aussie cricketer Adam Gilchrist in Englishman Michael Vaughan that there appears to be a divide in the team.

"We really enjoy playing cricket together. We've been through a lot over the last few years, the core group. So no problems there. Everyone gets along really well. So all good," Cummins added.

BGT 2024-25: Rift in Australian team? 'I don't know...,' says Cummins after Hazlewood throws shades at batters

Virat Kohli's poor run of form continued on Day 1 of the Perth Test between India and Australia, on Friday (Nov 22), as the star batter got dismissed by a peach off a delivery from Josh Hazlewood for five. After Jasprit Bumrah-led India opted to bat first, India lost early wickets as Kohli walked out to bat at No. 4. His stay was cut short soon as Hazlewood bowled a well-executed short delivery to dismiss Kohli as India went into the lunch break reeling at 51-4.

Kohli was batting way outside his crease to negate the bounce and movement at the Optus Stadium. He was looking to play on the front foot. Hazlewood, however, outfoxed him with a smart short-pitched delivery. The former Indian captain was caught in no-man's land as the ball climbed onto him, got an edge and was caught by Usman Khawaja at the slips. He never looked comfortable during his 12-ball stay as his bad run&nbsp;continues.&nbsp;

Following Kohli's fall, India has slipped further. At the time of publishing this report, they are reeling at 108 for 6 with Rishabh Pant and debutant Nitish Reddy batting in the middle. India would aim for anything above 200 to challenge the Aussies in the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener.

Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024/25 edition, which gets underway in Perth on Nov 22 (Friday), Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood expressed his relief over Cheteshwar Pujara's absence in the India squad. Pujara last played for India during the WTC 2023 final at The Oval, London. Since then, he has been out of the India Test lineup due to his ordinary run. Pujara, however, was a beast in Australia during India's last two visits, hence, is absence has pleased Hazlewood.&nbsp;

Prior to the BGT 2024/25 opener, Hazlewood said at a press conference, "I am happy that Cheteshwar Pujara is not here. He is obviously someone who bats time and spends a lot of time at the crease and makes you earn his wicket every time. Has done really well in Australia on previous tours. I mean there are always first-class young players coming into the team. There is so much pressure to perform in the Indian team. With so many guys nipping at the hills all the time, so overall the playing XI is a mix of unbelievable players. So it does not really matter, they are all big players."

Pujara has an exceptional record in Australia. The right-hander, a veteran of 103 Tests, has scored 993 runs in 11 games against the Aussies, in Australia, at an average of 47.28. During India's maiden Test series triumph in Australia, in 2018/19, he ended with 521 runs&nbsp;at an average of 74.42 to be adjudged the Player of the Series. Even in the 2020/21 series win for India Down Under, he played an integral part with 273 runs, along with three fifties. Overall, he has&nbsp;five half-centuries and three centuries in Australia.&nbsp;

This time around, Shubman Gill is expected to do well for India at the No. 3 spot. He has succeeded Pujara at the slot since the veteran's ouster and done a good job so far. It will be interesting to see if he can replicate Pujara's feat Down Under. Ahead of the Perth Test, Gill is running against time to be fit following a thumb injury in the run-up to the BGT 2024/25 edition.

BGT 2024/25: 'Happy that Cheteshwar Pujara is not here,' Josh Hazlewood relieved by veteran batter's absence

Illness and injuries have hit the Australian camp ahead of the first ODI against England in Trent Bridge on Thursday (Sep 19), as the star trio of Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood are doubtful for the series opener.&nbsp;

A virus has swept through the visitor’s dugout, with T20I captain Mitchell Marsh missing the second T20I with a similar illness. Travis Head, who led the side in Marsh’s absence, wasn’t 100 per cent either but played through, per a report in Cricket Australia.

Starc and Maxwell joined the training camp before the first One-Dayer and trained in the nets before catching the virus. With keeper-batter Josh Inglis and opener Jake Fraser-McGurk battling injuries, Australia’s options are reduced drastically within their 17-man squad.

Inglis, who enjoyed limited outings on this UK Tour thus far, hasn’t kept wickets in the nets as he recovers from quad soreness; that, however, opened doors for Alex Carey, who will play his first ODI since getting dropped during the 2023 World Cup.

On the other hand, McGurk, who scored his maiden fifty in the first T20I and last appeared in the second game that the Aussies lost by three wickets, is also nursing a sore hamstring. Following passing the fitness test on Tuesday, the rookie batter batted for a little while in the nets.&nbsp;

<h2>Lack of first-team bowlers</h2>

With regular ODI Captain Pat Cummins rested for the entire England series and Starc and Hazlewood almost confirmed to miss out on the playing XI, Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis will play the first One-Dayer; all-rounders Cameron Green and Aaron Hardie will make up for the rest of the bowlers.

Matthew Short, who pressed his case as David Warner’s replacement in the white-ball squad, might start ahead of Maxwell in the Trent Bridge ODI.

With Marsh and Head recovering from the illness, both might start, while the Test pair of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne will come into the XI.&nbsp;

"It's certainly a busy schedule, there will be times where we may have to manage guys through," Marsh said at a pre-series press conference before the extent of sickness was fully known. "We'll manage that as best we can and make sure we're fielding teams to win this series."

Virus sweeps through Aussie camp as star trio doubtful for 1st ODI against England

Australia's bowling attack has been dealt a huge blow in their preparations for the T20I series against Scotland with veteran bowler Josh Hazlewood ruled out due to a calf injury. Hazlewood who plays a key role in the Australian bowling department in all three formats will miss all the three T20I matches after an announcement was made on Saturday (Aug 24). While the extent of the injury remains unidentified he will be expecting to return for the England series later in September.

<h2>Hazlewood to miss Australia tour of Scotland</h2>

Having been selected for the entire United Kingdom tour, Hazlewood’s injury comes as a minor setback for the ODI World champions. He sustained niggle in his right calf and was unable to pass the fitness test which left the management to rest him ahead of a busy period in the Australian summer. The veteran speedster, however, is expected to be back for the England white-ball tour.

Considering Australia need a full-strength bowling attack during the summer when they face India in a five-match Test series. Australia’s team management is keeping an eye on all the developments in the bowling department having excluded Pat Cummins altogether from the UK tour while Mitchell Starc will only feature in the white-ball series in England.

Hazlewood to miss Australia tour of Scotland Having been selected for the entire United Kingdom tour, Hazlewood’s injury comes as a minor setback for the ODI World champions. Australia dealt blow before Scotland series as Josh Hazlewood gets sidelined due to calf injury

The forthcoming India-Australia Test series is keenly awaited. Since 2014/15, Australia have not won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, including losing two successive home series. Thus, the players who have worn the Baggy Green for the first time following Australia's last Test series triumph over India are yet to lift the elusive Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Hazlewood, who debuted during Australia's victorious 2014-15 home series win against India, recently claimed that Pat Cummins &amp; Co. are desperate to settle scores versus the Asian giants.

<h2>'Last time, we&nbsp;bowled them out for 36&nbsp;and&nbsp;thought here we go.....'</h2>

As quoted by ESPNCricinfo, Hazlewood said, "There are quite a few players who have never beaten India in a Test series. It's quite astounding to say that. That's one we need to tick off, definitely, in particular at home - we should pretty much win every series here at home."

"That last series we obviously bowled them out for 36 in Adelaide and we thought here we go, [we are] back at home [and] confident on these grounds. People say we played India B in that last Test, but they can sometimes be stronger than the best team. They've got unbelievable depth in all formats and we are starting to see that now."

We bowled them out for 36 and thought...: Hazlewood claims Australia desperate to end losing streak vs India

Australia pacer Mitchell Starc has lashed out at media for blowing fellow pacer Josh Hazlewood's comments out of proportion. The comments came after Australia beat Scotland in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 which ensured arch-rivals England a place in the Super Eight stage.

With Australia already qualified for the knockout stage, Hazlewood had said last week with it would be in 'best interest' of Australia to eliminate England at the group stage. It is to be noted that England needed a win over Namibia and a win for Australia over Scotland to make it to the knockout stage.

"I think a throwaway line has been blown right out of proportion by you lot (media)," Starc said at the post-match conference after Australia&nbsp;won against Scotland on Saturday (June 15).

"You don't stuff around with mother cricket and trying to worry about other results. We're here to win games. It's international cricket. England now are on the other side of the draw, so it really doesn't make that much difference for the next three games. So yeah, I think that was blown right out of proportion by you guys," he added.

Skipper Mitchell Marsh was also asked about how much England's fate been discussed to which he laughingly said: "I think more externally than internally, but we won today and that's all that matters."

Australia are in Group 1 of Super Eight stage alongside India and Afghanistan and the fourth team will be either Bangladesh or Netherlands. Meanwhile, England are in Group 2 with West Indies, USA, and South Africa.

In the match, Australia did have a bit of scare in the chase of 181, needing 87 off just 39 balls at one stage. Marcus Stoinis (59), Travis Head (68), and Tim David (24 not out), however, took the Aussies home with two balls to spare.

T20 World Cup 2024: Australia pacer Mitchell Starc calls out media for 'dragging' Josh Hazlewood's comments

Senior Aussie seamer Pat Cummins has dismissed the possibility of Australia trying to manipulate the Scotland game result, which could result in knocking England out of the T20 World Cup, saying it’s against the spirit of the game. Days after his teammate Josh Hazlewood loosely remarked on how Australia could work a way out to eliminate England from the Super 8 race by narrowly winning against Scotland in their last league game, Cummins said the drawn plans are nowhere near this.

Cummins, who himself was the protagonist in the Bairstow run-out saga controversy during last year’s Ashes, which later got highlighted in Amazon Prime’s three-episode series called ‘The Test’, said Hazlewood joked about manipulating the Scotland game result, adding it should not be taken seriously.

Meanwhile, despite&nbsp;the talks of sending the defending champions packing inside the first round, the England Team kept themselves alive in the competition by hammering Oman in their latest league match to move ahead of Scotland in the required Net Run Rate (NRR) department.

For England to cruise ahead, they must beat Namibia in their final league game and hope for Australia to beat Scotland even by the tiniest margin.

"I think when you go out and play you are trying your best every time and if you are not, that's probably against the spirit of cricket," Cummins said ahead of the England-Oman game in St Lucia.

"Haven't really thought too deeply because it's never really popped up.

"I was speaking to Joshy (Hazlewood), who had a bit of a joke about it the other day, and think it got taken a little bit out of context. We'll go there and just try and play Scotland, who have had a really good tournament so far and will be tough. It's [net run rate] something you kind of discuss as one of the quirks of the set-up, but in terms of does it change the way we play, absolutely not,” he added.

He added that as a cricketer, he never stepped foot on the cricket field with a mindset other than that of winning.

"I've never stepped into the field without the mindset of trying to take the game on and be aggressive like the guys have so far,” Cummins said.

<h2>Expect rotation of players in final group game</h2>

With Australia already cruising ahead to the next round with three wins in as many matches played, they are less likely to benefit from their game against Scotland other than trying to test their benched players.

Cameron Green, Josh Inglis and Ashton Agar could get included in the XI. However, per Cummins, he’s unsure what the selectors are thinking.

"I haven't spoken to the selectors or anyone, so I don't know what they're thinking," Cummins said of the option to rotate players. "But I wouldn't be surprised. I know going into the start of the tournament, in a perfect world, we'd get a game into just about all the squad members."
