"I think he just complements the other guys really well, he's got a different skillset, comes from a different angle, different height, and think some variety in the attack will be really important to win this World Cup," he added.

The reason Paine provided for Ellis' inclusion in the playing XI was the bowlers' all-round skills.

"I'm going to pick one of them and I'm going to go with Nathan Ellis' all-round skills, his ability to bowl all through the powerplay, I think his slower balls, he's clever. His international record for the opportunities that he's been given is outstanding and I think now is the right time…that's not to say they [Cummins and Hazlewood] are not the best couple of bowlers in the country, they are outstanding bowlers, and will continue to be, I just think Nathan Ellis complements the rest of that attack really, really well," Paine said.

Australia are placed in Group B along with England, Namibia, Oman and Scotland. They start their campaign on June 5 against Oman before taking on arch-rivals England on June 8. "Where do you fit him in? It's so tough to fit into that top order with what we've got there with experience with Travis [Head], Mitch [Marsh] and Davey [Warner] in the top three, and then the middle order's pretty good as well," said Hazlewood.&nbsp;

"He'll definitely get his time. He's only young. He'll be in the team sooner rather than later, I think," added Hazlewood.&nbsp;

Australia sent New Zealand into bat first on a green Hagley Oval track and wrapped up their first innings within two sessions, with seamer Josh Hazlewood returning with five wickets.&nbsp;

Talking about a day that leaves this game in balance despite a poor show from the hosts (with the bat) again in this series, Henry said the batters failing to make it big is not concerning for him. "I think looking at our batting line-up, we've got world-class players there. They've been fantastic for a number of years. I [haven't] got any doubt that they'll be great and they'll be fine moving forward.&nbsp;

“It's day one of a Test match. The ball is allowed to move around, and the guys are allowed to bowl well. That's what happens when you come across world-class performers. They have their day sometimes,” he said after the first day of play.

"Josh bowled exceptionally well," Henry said.&nbsp;

"Obviously, watching him go about his work today, it was probably a bit of a blueprint for how we wanted to bowl out there as well. It was a matter of being accurate for a long period of time and creating pressure, and he did that beautifully, and thankfully, we managed to do that in periods tonight as well and to get a few poles,” the New Zealand ace seamer added.

Dropping Virat Kohli, that too in a run chase, is a crime for any opposition. Mitchell Marsh was the offender in this case during the India-Australia World Cup clash in Chennai on Sunday. In hindsight, had that catch been taken, India would have been 20 for four, with chase master Kohli back in the pavilion.&nbsp;

"I didn't think Carey could get there. I think it was Mitch's catch, and probably just Carey got quite close in the end, so, it might have just put Mitch off," Josh said of the dropped catch. "Yeah, he dropped a catch, it's one of those things that happens, and everyone's training hard and working hard off the field to hang on to them. So, yeah, we'll continue on."

India needed 200 runs to win on a dry Chennai track to open their World Cup with a bang. The start, however, had put them down right away, with three of their top four batters getting out in the space of seven balls.

However, if the rain persists and the game gets drawn, Australia will retain the Ashes irrespective of the final Test's result.

"I'd be very pleased," Josh Hazlewood admitted. "It's obviously forecast, but forecasts can change all the time. Obviously, rain and light play a big part in cricket and have done forever. So, yeah, it'd be great to lose a few overs here and there, and make our job a little easier if I'm hanging in there."

<h2>Bairstow expects different outcome despite rain forecast</h2>

On the other side, England batter Jonny Bairstow thinks otherwise and feels even though cloud cover would be there, it would make things interesting for the hosts as they would need little assistance from the weather to mat Australia in the fourth Test.

With the Duke Ball likely to move around a tad more in the first hour, Bairstow expects seamers to draw early blood and pick six wickets quickly before rain halts play.

<h2>Hazlewood to return</h2>

"Josh will come in for Scott Boland, and the top order will stay the same. Part of the conversation is how do two all-rounders fit in, is spin going to be important this week,” said Cummins on the eve of the fourth Test match.

Hazlewood was not part of the Australia side in the third Test where they suffered a three-wicket defeat that has kept the Ashes alive for the home side. Australia have been in the driving seat of the Ashes so far having won the opening two Tests at Edgbaston and Lord’s. Star batter David Warner’s selection has also been a big headache for the side with speculations surrounding his place in the team. However, those rumours were put to sword on Tuesday as he will continue in the side.

"Davey didn't have his best game last week at Headingley, but before that, he has looked really good. He has had three 50-run (opening) partnerships, which can be rare over in England,” added Cummins on David Warner’s selection in the side.

<h2>Aussies to break spin streak</h2>

The Aussies already are without Nathan Lyon for the Test series with him injuring his calf after the first encounter. However, with Todd Murphy also reported to be missing out on a place in the Playing XI, it will be for the first time since January 2012, they will play a Test match without a recognised spin option in the team.

Currently, the Aussies lead the Ashes 2-1 and will need a draw in either of their two remaining matches to retain the Holy Grail. England on the other hand will have to beat the visitors in both matches to win their first Ashes since 2015. The hosts are currently unbeaten under the stewardship of Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes, with them taking over the reins of the side in June 2022.

"I'd say it's a good fun challenge to have. It's good to play a different brand of cricket although don't think we got dragged into it as much as we could have if things went really south. Though we held our guns pretty well. It wasn't outrageous strokeplay. There was a bit at the end there off Gazza [Nathan Lyon] for Rooty, but a batter on 100+ usually plays shots like that anyway with the tail,” Hazlewodd quoted in the post-match on Day 1.

Much to the surprise of many on Day 1, England skipper Ben Stokes decided to declare the innings immediately after Joe Root reached his 30th Test hundred. This though did not come as a surprise for Hazlewood who was picked ahead of experienced Mitchell Starc for the contest.

"Once Joe got his hundred they played a few shots, sensed it was coming. That's the way they are playing their cricket at the moment. First day was probably as I expected to be honest pretty much. The wicket was, not a great deal in it, very, very slow. Not much sideways movement or swing. 390 and we are none-for, so pretty even I'd say."

With England at 124/3 at the break, it was Joe Root who took the anchor role despite losing wickets consistently at the end. Harry Brook (32) and skipper Ben Stokes (1) soon followed which put the hosts on the back foot. Bairstow (78) would then join Root as they both stitched a 121-run stand for the sixth wicket. Root scored his 30th Test hundred and remained unbeaten on 118 at the end of the day.

England did their best to breach the defense of Warner and Khawaja but did not succeed in the four overs at the end of Day 1 before stumps. Australia ended the day at 14/0 and still trail by 379 runs in the first innings.

Star seamer Josh Hazlewood believes he has a realistic chance of breaking into the playing XI for the India tie following almost attaining full fitness.

Hazlewood has had a troubled time with injuries for the past six months at least. After getting ruled out of the final home Test of the season against South Africa at the SCG, Hazlewood missed the entire India tour, which included the four-match Border-Gavaskar series and the three ODIs that followed due to an Achilles issue.

Because of the same reason, he joined his IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore late in mid-April and, even then, could play just three games in the season. The Aussie quick left the tournament early, complaining about soreness in his left side.

Upon joining the Australia team before leaving for the UK for the WTC Final and then the Ashes, Hazlewood bowled a bit in Sydney. After the team landed in West Lancashire, Josh went about his business in the nets&nbsp;bowling in rhythm.

With a few of the former players, including Ponting, revealing their Australia XI for the WTC Final, dropping Hazlewood for Scott Boland, Josh believes he is doing fine fitness-wise, and after he takes the heavy workload in the nets in the coming days, it will be&nbsp;decided if he gets his chance or not.

"My fitness is pretty good," Hazlewood said while speaking with the ICC. "It is just a matter of ticking off every session from here until that date basically."

"In T20, you are bowling a lot of various different balls every over. A wide yorker to a bouncer to a slower ball, and [the side] just got jammed up a little bit, and a bit of scar tissue from previous injuries flared up."

"It calmed down pretty quickly. I had a week off, I didn't quite get back to going 100 per cent at [the] IPL, but the last few bowls have been good, and I have been building up nicely," he added.

Earlier, the Aussie team trained at Formby and will now hold a three-day camp at Beckenham. Hazlewood, who is&nbsp;fighting for that one spot with Boland, will likely get through two solid bowling sessions – one on Thursday and then on Saturday before the management takes a final call on the playing XI.

Following the one-off Test for the coveted trophy, Australia will play the Ashes, starting June 16th in Edgbaston.

Australia selection committee head George Bailey has commented on the team’s plan for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against India and the Ashes after they announced the squad. The selection committee announced the squad for the WTC final and the first two Ashes matches on Wednesday, April 19 and have kept faith in Josh Hazlewood while Lance Morris missed out with David Warner also returning to the fold.&nbsp;

"He's having a bit of a de-load period, which I think is about four-to-six weeks, and then he will start to start to build after that," chief selector George Bailey said.

"Conservatively, we'll probably look to rebuild Lance and hopefully have a really big crack at the summer.

The squad for the WTC final also sees the return of David Warner in the squad while the selection committee hopes for a positive outcome of scans for players who missed out due to fitness issues. The selection committee will announce the squad for the remainder of the three Ashes Tests in June and will hope for Morris’ return to the team.

The Aussies have traditionally kept a backup option on long tours like England and India and will have the luxury to call some of their prime bowling assets already present in England. As the commencement of the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League is just a sleep away, absence of Hazlewood, who starred for the RCB in the last season with 20 wickets, comes as a spoiler. Not only Hazlewood, RCB might also miss Glenn Maxwell for the first game against Mumbai Indians as he continues to recuperate from a leg injury.

Earlier, during February in Bengaluru, Hazlewood expressed his desire to return to the IPL but remained firm as what stays as his priority – which is Test cricket.

"As fun as T20 is and as lucrative as it is, I find it still plays second fiddle to Test cricket," Hazlewood had said as quoted by cricket.com.au. "This series, Ashes series, home summers are what you play cricket for. I don't think that will ever change."

"I've chatted with guys at Cricket Australia, Cricket NSW…to get a plan together (to manage his body). It's probably about short-term loss versus long-term gain a lot of the time. You've got a T20 World Cup or an IPL or a one-day series, it's about still ticking those boxes off the field to be ready to go for a Test series,” Hazlewood added.

On the other hand, Maxwell, who suffered a freak injury in November last year, feels his return to ODI cricket to be more demanding, as per the national selector George Bailey.
