Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag on Monday made waves with his side-arm bowling action during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Punjab Kings. IPL, taking to its Twitter handle, labelled it ‘right-arm perpendicular’ as social media users had a blast giving new names to the low side-arm bowling action. <o:p></o:p>

However, Parag isn’t the first player to unleash the side-arm bowling action. The likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Kedar Jadhav and Manoj Tiwary have had tried the ‘slinger’ in a bid to catch batsmen by surprise. While Parag didn’t use it frequently, he did dismiss Chris Gayle in the same over he brought out his new variation.<o:p></o:p>

"That is right-arm perpendicular. What name can you think of for this unique action?" IPL tweeted.

Chris Gayle on Monday became the first batsman to hit 350 sixes in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Gayle achieved the iconic milestone in the IPL 2021 match between Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.&nbsp;

Gayle hammered a Ben Stokes delivery over the deep square for a massive six to complete the historic landmark. The Universe Boss is arguably the most devastating batsmen in the history of T20 cricket and the West Indies veteran continues to be a nightmare for bowlers. He later hit his 351st six in IPL history against Rahul Tewatia.

Such is the dominance of Gayle in the shortest format of the game that the next batsmen to score most sixes in IPL is AB de Villiers and his number stands at 237. To get more insights into the achievement, Gayle has played 133 IPL matches whereas de Villiers has 170 IPL matches under his belt.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has predicted that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) would have to wait for their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy after casting doubts over whether they possess a squad to win the coveted trophy.<o:p></o:p>

RCB are one of the franchises to have never won the IPL trophy and bolstered their squad by adding the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Kyle Jamieson among a few others in a bid to break their trophy drought.<o:p></o:p>

Dhawan played a blistering knock of 85 runs from 54 balls, while Shaw smashed 72 runs off 38 balls to help Delhi Capitals defeat the Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets.

Dhawan expressed that his opening partner has made a comeback like a champion, "It was lovely to watch Prithvi bat so effortlessly and timing the ball so nicely. He went through a bad patch earlier and has come back as a champion. He did so well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scored so many centuries and a double century as well. And now, he has brought the same form in IPL. I am so happy to see him perform that well."

The 35-year-old added that a comprehensive victory in their first match of the season is a huge confidence booster for the team, "Starting a season on such a high note increases the team's confidence tremendously. There's a positive vibe in the dressing room now. We prepared well for the match and everything fell into place nicely. I am very happy with the team's and my own performance. Delhi Capitals' fast bowler&nbsp;Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers in his team's seven-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021 in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. The 24-year-old, who returned with figures of 2/23, helped the Delhi franchise restrict CSK to 188/7 in their 20 overs before the Delhi Capitals chased their target in 18.4 overs. The speedster was particularly thrilled about taking the big wicket of MS Dhoni.

"Three years ago, I had a chance to take Mahi bhai's wicket, but somebody had dropped the catch. But now my dream of taking Mahi bhai's wicket is fulfilled, so I am very happy about it. Since he has not played competitive matches for some time, we had planned to put pressure on him and because of that pressure I could take his wicket," said Avesh.

The fast bowler said that the Delhi Capitals will have to maintain the momentum they have attained after winning their first match of the competition, "I was quite happy with my performance in our first match, and I am even more happy because the team has won. I put the team in a good position with the wickets of Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) and Faf du Plessis. I was happy with the way I carried out the role given to me by the team management. After winning the first match, everyone's confidence goes up. Now, we have to maintain the momentum."

Avesh added that&nbsp;Faf du Plessis' wicket helped him get into a good rhythm, "Rishabh backed me and gave me the second over of the match and I took a wicket in that over itself. A wicket in the initial part of a fast bowler's spell is really good for his rhythm. Du Plessis is a good batsman and if he continued to play, then he would've made things difficult for us."

The 24-year-old expressed that he hired a dietician ahead of the IPL 2021 to improve his fitness, "I have reduced my weight by 5 kg. I have hired a personal dietician and I plan my diet according to the dietician's directions. My diet plan changes on a day-to-day basis, depending on my gym and training sessions and rest days. Improving my fitness has helped me a lot. I am feeling light, and I feel great when I run. I had to sacrifice some of my favourite dishes for 20-25 days, but that has helped me to stay on track for achieving some of my personal goals."

While speaking about the fast-bowling prowess of the Delhi Capitals, Avesh said that the Delhi franchise has the best fast bowling line-up in the IPL.

IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals' Avesh Khan opens up about 'dream' wicket of MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming on Saturday confirmed that pacers Lungi Ngidi and Jason Behrendorff are not available for the team’s next match in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Punjab Kings on April 16 (Friday). Fleming also heaped praise on Suresh Raina after the former Indian cricketer marked his IPL comeback with a terrific half-century. <o:p></o:p>

Fleming acknowledged that CSK are short in the bowling area but said that he will look at the Indian bowlers and the likes of Sam Curran to do better in their next IPL 2021 match.<o:p></o:p>

"Ngidi won't be available. He won't be arriving for the next game. So losing Josh Hazlewood, which was the plan to have him available for these games is a blow simply as an option up front. Ngidi will be arriving soon. Behrendorff would be following that. [Bowling] it's an area that we are probably short on. But we still look at the Indian bowlers and we have international bowler Sam Curran," Fleming said in a post-match press conference.

Courtesy tremendous knocks by Raina, Moeen Ali and Sam Curran, CSK posted 188/7 in 20 overs. "It wasn't bad when you lose wickets a little bit early and still manages to get to 188, that's pretty good going. So, the intent with the bat was pretty good. The conditions changed, dew and a little bit of rain made things difficult in the second innings. They played really well but 190 on this ground is still reasonably competitive we just needed to bowl better," he said.

CSK coach heaped praises on Raina and said his form is a positive side for the side. "It's really good, considering the cricket and where he has come from. It was an outstanding innings. We put Moeen Ali up as an aggressor and also used Suresh's aggressive role to get to play some cricket and find some form. But after playing 2-3 shots, he really got going. It's a really positive sign for us. I liked the way we turned it on after losing wickets when the wicket was tacky. We just weren't able to create chances with the ball, which is really disappointing," Fleming said.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has been fined INR 12 lakh after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.<o:p></o:p>

As it was CSK’s first offence in IPL 2021 under IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to&nbsp;minimum over-rate offences, Dhoni was fined INR 12 lakh.<o:p></o:p>

“Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 10,” IPL said in a statement.

IN PICS |&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/ipl-2021-dhawan-and-shaw-star-as-delhi-capitals-beat-chennai-super-kings-376734" hreflang="en">IPL 2021- Dhawan and Shaw star as Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings</a>

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Dhoni was fined Rs 12 lakh,” it added.<o:p></o:p>

Earlier, Suresh Raina scored a brilliant half-century in his comeback game in IPL before Sam Curran’s blistering knock helped CSK reach 188/7 in 20 overs. However, Delhi Capitals openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan took the game away from the Dhoni-led outfit before Rishabh Pant finished it off to start their IPL 2021 campaign with a win.<o:p></o:p>

After the game, Dhoni said that "a lot depended on dew" before praising his side's batsmen for taking the team's score to 188.

"A lot depended on dew, and that factor played on our mind from the start and that's why we wanted to get as many runs as possible. The batters did a good job to reach 188 because it was tacky until dew settled in 50 minutes later. We could have bowled slightly better, and if batters are hitting you over the fields, that's fair enough," Dhoni told hosts broadcasters Star Sports after the match. <o:p></o:p>

"The execution of the bowlers was poor and there were boundary balls that they bowled, but the bowlers will have learned and they will apply that in the future games. The opposition has half an hour in a 7:30 start when the pitch is really tacky and the ball stops a bit, so we need to get 15-20 runs extra to be safe. If we get dew consistently, then 200 will be a must on a pitch like this. Their (Delhi) bowlers bowled a great line when it was stopping and seaming a bit, and the openers got really good balls in which they got out and that can happen in a game like this," he added.<o:p></o:p>

Earlier, Suresh Raina scored a brilliant half-century in his comeback game in IPL before Sam Curran’s blistering knock helped CSK reach 188/7 in 20 overs. However, Delhi Capitals openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan took the game away from the Dhoni-led outfit before Rishabh Pant finished it off to start their IPL 2021 campaign with a win. After the game, Dhoni said that "a lot depended on dew" before praising his side's batsmen for taking the team's score to 188. IN PICS | Here are some major records CSK skipper MS Dhoni can shatter in IPL 2021 "A lot depended on dew, and that factor played on our mind from the start and that's why we wanted to get as many runs as possible. The batters did a good job to reach 188 because it was tacky until dew settled in 50 minutes later. We could have bowled slightly better, and if batters are hitting you over the fields, that's fair enough," Dhoni told hosts broadcasters Star Sports after the match. Their (Delhi) bowlers bowled a great line when it was stopping and seaming a bit, and the openers got really good balls in which they got out and that can happen in a game like this," he added.

Rajasthan Royal's wicketkeeper Jos Buttler lauded CSK skipper MS Dhoni to mark the beginning of wicketkeeping captains from India as there are four such captains in the ongoing Indian Premier League.&nbsp;

Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Sanju Samson lead Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals respectively.&nbsp;

"I am sure MSD (Dhoni) has something to do with the sixth sense and breeding of wicketkeepers who can captain. He obviously has been a fantastic captain and there are lots of players who want to follow in his footsteps," Jos Buttler told PTI Bhasha.

"I think a wicketkeeper has a brilliant view of the game. That can add to your decision making as you can see first-hand how the wicket is behaving and the way bowlers are bowling," Buttler added.

Buttler went on to talk about his team ahead of their first match against Punjab Kings.&nbsp;

"We have lots of variety in the team this season with some world-class all-rounders like Ben Stokes and Chris Morris and a new captain. Sanju (Samson) is very exciting player and has a long affiliation with the franchise.

"He is a very calm person and likes to have fun. I am sure he would try and get across that to the team. There will be a lot of passion in his leadership," he said.

"I strongly believe Ben Stokes will be the X-factor for our team in this season," Buttler signed off.&nbsp;

As Rajasthan Royals (RR) gear up to play the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 opener against Punjab Kings on Monday, wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has said that he wishes to break the record of most sixes in an IPL match.<o:p></o:p>

The record of most sixes in an IPL match stands with Chris Gayle, who smashed 17 sixes against Pune Warriors in 2013 when he was with Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Gayle had hammered 175 not-out in that knock. <o:p></o:p>

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jos Buttler was asked a few questions regarding the IPL 2021. One of which was “Which IPL record would you like to break?”

“Most sixes in a match,” Jos Buttler replied.<o:p></o:p>

While Buttler is regarded as one of the most dangerous batsmen in white-ball cricket, hitting 17 sixes in an IPL match is a challenge that should sit well with the England batsman. However, the most sixes Buttler has hit in an IPL innings is seven during his 89-run knock against Chennai Super Kings in 2019.<o:p></o:p>

Buttler is likely to open for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 and with smaller grounds in India, he would look to achieve the record if he gets it going from the word go.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has revealed an incident where he witnessed Rahul Dravid get angry in real life after he yelled at MS Dhoni for getting out by playing a loose shot against Pakistan. “I have seen Rahul Dravid get angry. When we were in Pakistan and MS Dhoni had been a newcomer, he played a shot and got caught at point. Dravid was very angry with MS Dhoni. ‘That’s the way you play? You should finish the game.’ I was myself taken aback by the storm of English from Dravid, I didn’t understand half of it,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has revealed an incident where he witnessed Rahul Dravid get angry in real life after he yelled at MS Dhoni for getting out by playing a loose shot against Pakistan. Recently, Dravid’s ‘angry’ side has been the talk of the town after the former Indian batsman was seen in an advertisement. In the ad, the 48-year-old can be seen, shouting, breaking glasses and throwing coffee. Recalling the incident where Dravid got angry in real life, Sehwag went down the memory lane. Sehwag said during one of India’s tours of Pakistan, Dravid lashed out at Dhoni for getting dismissed by a loose stroke while revealing how the incident caught Dhoni by surprise and it was evident when he came out to bat in the next match. The Delhi Capitals got off to a fantastic start in the IPL 2021 with a seven-wicket win over the Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai at the&nbsp;Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Delhi Capitals' opening batsman&nbsp;Prithvi Shaw was in the thick of things as he blasted his way to a 38-ball 72-run innings, helping his team chase down a target of 189 runs with 8 balls to spare.

"Very happy with the way I batted. Everyone executed whatever we practiced in the last few days. It was brilliant to see everyone contributing to the team. The opening stand which we got was very crucial for us. Chasing 190 odd is not easy without a good start. It was a great win for us; however, I should've stayed in the middle until the end. So, if I have to rate my innings out of 10, I will give an 8 to myself," said Shaw.

The 21-year-old, who scored a whopping 827 runs in 8 matches in the&nbsp;Vijay Hazare Trophy, spoke about how he got back into form before the IPL 2021, "I made some small changes in my batting before the IPL. I just wanted to minimize all the mistakes I was making, and I worked hard. I practiced for two weeks with Strength &amp; Conditioning Coach Rajinikanth Sivagnanam sir&nbsp;and Pravin Amre sir before the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Then I just played my natural game with a few changes in the Vijay Hazare Trophy."

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli was full of praises for his team-mates, especially Harshal Patel and Glenn Maxwell, as the Bengaluru outfit got off to a rollicking start in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 by defeating defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) by two wickets in Chennai on Friday.

RCB roped in Maxwell at the auction for a whopping INR 14.25 crore despite the Aussie having a torrid IPL 2020 with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). However, Maxwell answered his critics in style while showing why the RCB management was spot on to spend heavily for his acquisition.

After the IPL 2021 season opener against MI, RCB captain Kohli said that Maxwell’s knock of 39 runs off 28 deliveries was the game-changer as he put the pressure back on the bowlers. Kohli revealed that RCB wanted to allow Maxwell to play a few deliveries before bringing his array of shots into the game rather than slogging from the word go while adding it was important to play the strongest side in the tournament (MI) and test themselves against the best.

“We won the first match last year as well that we played. It was important to play against the strongest side in the competition and test our side. Everyone was involved in this game, and when you win by two wickets, it means that everyone has gone in and played. A lot of options for me as well that helped bringing the game back. The pitch was looking decent in the first half, but to be honest, with the old ball the length ball was difficult to get away. That is why those partnerships between Maxi and me and then between AB and Maxi was really important. It's not a pitch where you can just hit through the line. You have to be smart with picking the gaps and running hard. Playing in Chennai you have to be respectful of that. The shot that Pollard got out to, in Wankhde it would've sailed into the crowds,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation on Friday.

“We came back well and used the conditions well. They came back well too after losing Rohit early and those last six overs for us were probably the best six we've ever had. We brought Harshal in a trade from Delhi. He is relishing the responsibility and is clear with his plans. He was the difference today. He is going to be our death bowler. As a captain you want players with clarity, and he has that. Jamieson started off well, Yuzi was good, Siraj was good too. In T20 cricket, clarity at the top of your mark is all you as for as a captain. Harshal was very clear with that and it was his day today.

“We wanted Maxi to bat at four. Rajat is a very solid player. He is an exciting player, plays spin well too. The thinking was that we wanted to give Maxi some balls at the start and not get him slogging right away. You saw the result today of him playing 10-15 balls. His innings was the game-changer. Had he stayed in we would've finished a couple of overs earlier. The opposition then gets nervous about AB. We have depth in the batting which we want to utilize. AB is probably the only one in the team who is so versatile. And he does it on slow wickets what not many can do. In a tricky chase you need experience at the back, and the opposition knows that if he doesn't get out, the bowlers get in a different headspace,” the RCB skipper added.

His innings was game-changer: Virat Kohli praises Glenn Maxwell after winning start in IPL 2021

Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday started their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 with a two-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Chris Lynn, who made his Mumbai Indians debut in the tournament opener on Friday, was involved in a mix-up with skipper Rohit Sharma which resulted in the latter getting run-out early in the first innings.<o:p></o:p>

After the match, Lynn jokingly said that it is not an ideal scenario running out your captain in the first game while adding that his first game for Mumbai Indians could be his last. Lynn admitted that he was a bit nervous going into the match but cleared out that there were plenty of other factors that led to MI losing the match and not just the run-out. <o:p></o:p>

Lynn further said that he would have sacrificed his wicket instead of running out Rohit if he was able to cross the pitch. <o:p></o:p>

The hard-hitting Australian slashed the ball towards the covers and called for a run before immediately pulling out. However, Rohit was halfway down the track by then and Virat Kohli was quick to get the throw to the non-striker’s end to dismiss the MI captain. While Rohit departed early, Lynn ended up with a 35-ball 49.<o:p></o:p>

"Look, obviously I was a bit nervous, no doubt about it. (It was my) first game for Mumbai and it was the first time I was batting with Rohit as well. It happens in the game of cricket as well. I thought there was a run, and then obviously there wasn't a run. But yeah, if I had been able to run past him and sacrifice my wicket, I definitely would have done that, but it wasn't the case.

"As I said, it happens, but yeah, I put just a little bit more pressure on myself. It's not ideal, running out your captain in the first game. The first game could be my last, who knows? (laughs). But anyhow, it was a spur-of-the-moment thing, happens in the game. It would have been nice (if the runout didn't happen); he was striking the ball nicely, and we were 10 or 15 runs short in the end. He would have definitely made a difference, but there were plenty of factors in this game tonight, not just the run-out," Chris Lynn answered to WION's query in the post-match press conference.

Mumbai Indians (MI) on Friday started their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 with a two-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Chris Lynn, who made his Mumbai Indians debut in the tournament opener on Friday, was involved in a mix-up with skipper Rohit Sharma which resulted in the latter getting run-out early in the first innings. Lynn further said that he would have sacrificed his wicket instead of running out Rohit if he was able to cross the pitch. The hard-hitting Australian slashed the ball towards the covers and called for a run before immediately pulling out. However, Rohit was halfway down the track by then and Virat Kohli was quick to get the throw to the non-striker’s end to dismiss the MI captain. While Rohit departed early, Lynn ended up with a 35-ball 49. IN PICS | IPL 2021- Harshal Patel and ABD shine as RCB beat Mumbai Indians in season opener "As I said, it happens, but yeah, I put just a little bit more pressure on myself. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have many times left themselves to be blamed for poor results despite having one of the strongest looking squads on paper. While over-dependency on some players have played a major role in it, the Kolkata outfit looks to start a fresh chapter under the full-time captaincy of World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan.<o:p></o:p>

KKR would be hoping for a fully fit Andre Russell and a firing Sunil Narine whereas hoping that new additions of Shakib Al Hasan, Ben Cutting, Karun Nair, Harbhajan Singh, among others come good during the course of the season.<o:p></o:p>

KKR finished fifth after narrowly missing out on playoff qualification due to net run rate.

The Kolkata franchise would be banking on Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi to give them a boost in the top order. The middle-order of Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik looks strong on paper and the fans would be hoping for some fireworks. <o:p></o:p>

In terms of bowling, Pat Cummins and Lockie Ferguson will be KKR’s key overseas bowlers and there will be more dependency on Varun Chakravarthy after he exceeded expectations last season. The likes of Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti along with Sandeep Warrier and Vaibhav Arora make them a good bowling unit.

If KKR can sort their playing combination and batting order then they can have a fruitful season in IPL 2021. They have plenty of match-winners at their helm and it would be interesting how Morgan uses the big-name players in the T20 tournament.

West Indies batting legend Brian Lara was mighty impressed with ABD's knock and said that he was timeless.

“He is timeless. He has got the experience. IPL is the only form of cricket he is playing at the moment. I suppose he is keeping fit and ready for it. At this stage, when you lost Virat Kohli, RCB needed him to come good. He was explosive at the right time, he controls the game. He came in after Glenn Maxwell as well, he controlled the game and got them home,” Lara told Star Sports.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and decided to bowl first. Mumbai Indians got off to a steady start as openers Rohit Sharma and Chris Lynn smashed few boundaries. However, skipper Sharma departs after getting run-out after a tragic mixup.&nbsp;

Suryakumar Yadav came to bat and continued his sublime form. He along with Chris Lynn stitched a crucial 70-run partnership before Kyle Jamieson dismissed Yadav.&nbsp;

Lynn followed Yadav as he soon was dismissed by Sundar and was one run short of a half-century. He scored the most runs for Mumbai Indians in this match after scoring 49 runs off 35 balls (four 4s, three 6s).&nbsp;

After Lynn's dismissal, Pandya and Ishan Kishan tried stabilising the innings. However, Harshal Patel's fifer restricted Mumbai Indians to 159 runs. In the 20th over, Patel scalped three wickets and conceded in one run (one run out).&nbsp;

Harshal Patel became the first-ever bowler in Indian Premier League history to take a five-wicket haul against Mumbai Indians.&nbsp;

In return, RCB tried experimenting by sending Washington Sundar to open alongside Virat Kohli. However, the experiment failed as the all-rounder just scored 10 runs. Despite losing a couple of early wickets, Royal Challengers were off to a strong start. Maxwell and Virat's partnership was proving fatal for the Mumbai Indians.&nbsp;

But Jasprit Bumrah provided a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing skipper Kohli. Marco Jansen brought Mumbai back into the game after dismissing Glenn Maxwell and Shahbaz Ahmed in one over.&nbsp;

However, AB De Villiers stayed till the end and smashed 48 runs off 27 balls! Harshal Patel got the winning run and ended the season opener jinx for Royal Challengers Bangalore and take them on top of the IPL table. Harshal Patel was adjudged the Man of the Match.
