Liam Livingstone was the star performer for Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) as they locked horns with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match 11 of the IPL 2022 edition in India, on Sunday evening (April 3).&nbsp;

Being asked to bat first, at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, PBKS weren't off to a desirable start as they were reduced to 14-2 before Livingstone's 32-ball 60, studded with five fours and an equal number of sixes, led to Punjab's recovery. Along with vital knocks from Shikhar Dhawan, Jitesh Sharma and some late hits, PBKS posted 180-8 in 20 overs before defending the total by 54 runs.

While Livingstone also made a mark with the ball, returning with 2 for 25, the Englishman's contribution with the bat was the real difference. Mumbai Indians (MI) youngster Tilak Varma is one of the Indian talents to watch out for in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Verma, a former India U-19 player, is a skilled right-hand batter, who is set to be a regular feature in the Mumbai Indians playing XI this season.

He has been impressive for the franchise in their first two matches and notched up his maiden IPL fifty against Rajasthan Royals in their last game. Mumbai Indians have suffered back-to-back defeats in their first two matches of the season so far but there have been a few positives for the five-time champions.

While Tilak has showcased his talent with the bat, MI's huge investment in star wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has also paid off well. Kishan has been at his destructive best in the IPL 2022 so far with back-to-back half-centuries in the first two games.

While Mumbai Indians had paid a huge sum of Rs 15.25 crore (INR 152.5 million) to rope in Ishan at the mega auction in February this year, Tilak was bought for Rs 1.7 crore (INR 17 million). Tilak revealed he has seen his family deal with financial difficulties growing up and it was not easy for his father to pay for his cricket-related expenses from his meagre salary. However, now that the 19-year-old has earned an IPL contract, his only aim is to buy a house for his parents.

“Growing up, we’ve had a lot of financial difficulties. My father with his meagre salary had to look after my cricket expenses as well as my elder brother’s studies. In the last few years, with some sponsorship and match fees, I could just about take care of my cricketing expenses,” Tilak was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

“We don’t own a house as yet. So with whatever I have earned in this IPL, my only aim is to get a house for my parents. This IPL money gives me the luxury to play freely for the rest of my career," he added.

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson scalped four wickets for 28 runs in a stunning display of pace and accuracy after Shubman Gill's imperious 84 to help Gujarat Titans beat Delhi Capitals by 14 runs and register their second consecutive win in their maiden IPL season here on Saturday.

Ferguson, who was bought for a whopping Rs 10 crore in the IPL auction, dismissed dangerous opener Prithvi Shaw (10), Mandeep Singh (18), captain Rishabh Pant (43 off 29 balls) and Axar Patel (8) to rock the DC's run chase of 172.

Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami (2/30) chipped in with two late wickets to hand DC, who finished on 157 for nine, their first defeat in the tournament.

Titans captain Hardik Pandya got his first wicket as he dismissed DC opener Tim Seifert (3) while Rashid Khan (1/30) also chipped in with the scalp of Shardul Thakur.

It was not the best of starts for DC as they lost opener Seifert in the second over. Ferguson then rocked DC's innings with two wickets in the fifth over -- Shaw and Mandeep -- as the Titans found themselves in the ascendency.

But DC captain Pant and Lalit Yadav (25), who had played a major role in DC's win in their previous match, revived the chase with a 61-run stand off 6.5 overs for the fourth wicket.

Lalit was run out in a dramatic fashion in the 12th over. Off a throw by Abhinav Manohar at the bowler's end, one bail had gone off early due to Vijay Shankar's foot being in contact with the stumps.
