Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq made heads turn with a bizarre claim about India pacers, pointing fingers at Arshdeep Singh, for consistently tampering with the ball during the ongoing T20 World Cup, in West Indies and the USA. Inzamam opined that Indian bowlers have been altering their match balls to aid reverse swing. Indian pacers Arshdeep, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have been among the wickets for Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue, being&nbsp;key contributors in India's unbeaten run so far in the 20-nation mega event.

Arshdeep is India's highest wicket-taker (15 scalps), second-overall, whereas Bumrah has 11 wickets to his name (eighth-overall). Even all-rounder Hardik has claimed 8 wickets in six outings. Seeing Bumrah-led Indian pacers' stupendous run, Inzamam made a bizarre claim during a recent chat show.

Although he hasn’t officially parted ways with the Pakistan Cricket League (PSL), his team - Peshawar Zalmi, thanked him for his exceptional service to this league and game over the years.

While addressing the nation upon getting picked as the new chief selector, Wahab, in a video recording uploaded on PCB’s official handles, said,&nbsp;

"The [PCB's] decision to involve former players in cricketing matters is commendable, and I am willing to work for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.&nbsp;

"Heading a selection committee is a challenging task. We have a significant Australia tour coming up that is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle and a T20I series against New Zealand that will allow us to develop a formidable unit leading up to the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies in June next year,” Wahab said in a board statement.

Harbhajan Singh has slammed former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq over the latter's comments that the ex-Indian spinner was close to converting his religion after meeting a Muslim scholar.&nbsp;

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Inzamam can be seen addressing a gathering where he recalls a story from the time when the Indian team toured Pakistan.

Inzamam alleged that Muslim players in the India squad&nbsp;(referring to Irfan Pathan, Mohammed Kaif and Zaheer Khan) used to join the Pakistan players for prayers. During the prayers, non-Muslim Indian players like Harbhajan Singh also joined in and observed the proceedings.&nbsp;

“We had a room where prayers were conducted. Maulana Tariq Jameel used to visit us in the evening and lead us into a namaz. After a few days, Irfan Pathan, Mohammed Kaif and Zaheer Khan also started coming," said Inzamam.

"Four other Indian cricketers sat and watched us.&nbsp;Harbhajan, who was unaware that Tariq Jameel was a maulana, said that ‘I am impressed with this man and want to follow his words',” he added.&nbsp;

However, Harbhajan did not take kindly to Inzamam's allegations and took to X, formerly known as Twitter and gave a strong reply.&nbsp;

"What is he drinking before speaking such nonsense? I am a proud Indian and a proud Sikh...these worthless people speak anything (Yeh kon sa nasha pee kar baat kar raha hai? I am a proud Indian and proud Sikh..yeh Bakwaas log kuch bi bakte hai)," posted Harbhajan.&nbsp;

In an interview to India Today, Harbhaj added:&nbsp;"I just want to say that someone should take Inzamam ul Haq to the doctor. He is not in the right mental state, please take him to the doctor. He is given odd statements. I am a Sikh and I am very happy to be born in a Sikh family."

Inzamam sent his resignation letter to the Pakistan Cricket Board chief Zaka Ashraf on Monday (Oct 30), days after the side lost its fourth consecutive World Cup match. At the same time as Inzamam's resignation news, PCB released a statement saying it had set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate 'conflict of interest' allegations related to the&nbsp;team selection.

<h2>Inzamam willing to sit with PCB</h2>

In an interview with a Pakistan news channel after tendering the resignation, Inzamam said he decided to step down until the committee had completed its probe.

“We are cricketers and we are available all the time to serve the country. Since I am facing an inquiry, and as the nature of my job is, I should step down and let them conduct the probe,” Inzamam stated.

The former skipper added that he was willing to "sit with the PCB" once the inquiry had been concluded.

On Monday,&nbsp;PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, Salman Naseer&nbsp;released a private WhatsApp conversation between Zaka and Babar to the national media.&nbsp;

“Babar, there’s also been news circulating on TV and social media that you have been calling Chairman, and he’s not answering. Have you lately given him a call?” read Zaka's message.&nbsp;

To which Babar’s response was, “Salam Salman bhai, I have not made any call to sir.”

The Pakistan Team has won just two out of the six contested matches and suffered losses in four of them. Such results have impacted their chances of making the semis.

A regular in the XI not a long time back, Pakistan's Shadab Khan is now said to get replaced by a newcomer in the side for the showpiece event in India starting October 5. The vice-captain had mediocre outings in the recently-concluded Asia Cup, picking just three wickets as Men in Green crashed out of the tournament in the Super Four stage.

The latest reports emerging from local media suggest chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and Captain Babar Azam are contemplating including uncapped Abrar Ahmed as cover for Shadab in the CWC squad.

According to Geo News, Babar Azam is disappointed with the performances of some seniors, with close friend Shadab being one of them.

With Pakistan already facing injury issues, including that of Naseem Shah, who is likely to miss the World Cup due to a shoulder injury, and Haris Rauf, who suffered pain in his side during the Asia Cup, removing Shadab from the scheme of things this close to the marquee event could hurt their momentum.

Meanwhile, Abrar - the young spin prodigy, rose to the limelight following his debut against England in the home Test series last December.

Quicker through the air than Shadab, adding some mystery factor to his bowling, Abrar remains an unknown entity for most teams. With 38 wickets in six matches at a strike rate of 51.26, drafting in Abrar could be a risk worth going for.

<h2>Vice-captaincy post under threat</h2>

Let alone fighting for his place in the starting XI for the World Cup 2023, Shadab Khan’s vice-captaincy position is also said to be under threat. If Shadab gets overlooked, pace-bowling spearhead Shaheen Afridi could be named Babar’s deputy.

The left-arm seamer is part of the most-talked-about bowling trio in today’s cricket, including Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf – two of whom are nursing injuries. In their absence, Pakistan played Mohammed Wasim Jr and Zaman Khan in the do-or-die clash against Sri Lanka, which Pakistan lost by two wickets.&nbsp;

Former skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has been named Pakistan chief selector for a second term. Inzamam will fill the post which has been lying vacant since Haroon Rasheed quit from the post last month. Inzamam was appointed to the committee last week itself along with Mohammad Hafeez and Misbah-ul-haq as the third member and head of the committee.

The first task of the committee was to appoint a chief selector. The PCB, however, has said that Inzamam has been appointed by the PCB chief Zaka Ashraf rather than the committee doing it.

Inzamam, who was the chief selector from 2016 to 2019 as well, will be responsible for announcing the squads for upcoming three-ODI series against Sri Lanka and the Asia Cup. The squads for both tournaments would be announced by Inzamam in a press conference on August 10, reported ESPNCricinfo.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf will be adviced by a high-profile committee consisting of former captains Misbah-ul-Haq, Inzamam-ul-Haq, and Mohammad Hafeez. "The CTC will have the powers to invite additional cricket experts, and shall report to the head of the PCB Management Committee on a regular basis."

The CTC’s first job will be to decide the fate of the coaching staff as there are speculations of changes. CTC will have the power to recommend any necessary changes to the staff and has vowed to resolve the issue before the Asia Cup begins at the end of August. CTC will share the findings related&nbsp;to the coaching staff issue with the PCB chairman before a concrete decision is made.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the CTC will come to a conclusion relating to the coaching issue by the end of the week and will share the findings with Zaka Ashraf.

The Misbah-ul-Haq-led committee will also oversee the revamp of the domestic structure as they prepare for the upcoming Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Virender Sehwag has called ex-Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq the best middle-order batter from Asia. Speaking his heart out on Gaurav Kapoor’s Breakfast with Champions YouTube show, the former India batter said people talk about legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, but to him, Inzamam was as good as any batter from this part of the world.

Sehwag said since Sachin is not counted among the rest as the India batter is the greatest-ever, Inzamam, off all the other middle-order batters from Asia, stands out as the best.

“Everyone talks about Sachin Tendulkar, but Inzamam-Ul-Haq is Asia’s biggest middle-order batsman,” Sehwag told Gaurav Kapoor on Breakfast with Champions. 
“See, Tendulkar was above the league of batsmen. So he doesn’t count. But when it comes to the most superior-middle order batsman across India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, I have never seen anyone better than him (Inzamam),” Sehwag added.

Elaborating on what made him call Inzamam the best, Sehwag said unlike other batters or captains during the early 2000s, Inzamam was not afraid of chasing down huge totals – even if the run rate is above eight.

“In that era – 2003-04 – he used to talk about scoring eight an over. He would say, ‘Don’t worry. We’ll score easily. 80 required in 10 overs, any other players would panic, but he was always confident,” Viru said.

“I told him to call the long-on fielder inside the circle. He asked me what I’d do then. I said that I’d hit a six. He said ‘your are joking.’ I said, ‘sent the fielder back if I don’t hit a six,” Sehwag said.

“He agreed and called the fielder closer. Kaneria bowled a googly. He didn’t know about this and I hit the googly for a six over long-on. Kaneria got angry. He said, ‘Inzi bhai, why did you bring the fielder up?’ Inzamam told him; ‘Be quiet, you don’t know what’s going on here…Go back and bowl. Otherwise, I’ll send you out from the ground."
