In the recently held Class 10 board examinations in Indian state of Maharashtra, a father-son duo appeared. When the results of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education were announced on Friday, there was jubilation and sorrow both in the family as the 43-year-old father from Pune had cleared the exam while his son couldn’t make the cut. The father, Bhaskar Waghmare, had to give up education after Class 7 and take up work to support the family. But he was always keen to study again. So, when his son was taking the exam for Class 10 this year, he also appeared for it after a gap of 30 years.

“I always wanted to study more, but could not do so earlier because of family responsibilities and to earn to sustain our livelihood," Waghmare told reporters on Saturday evening. He is a resident of Babasaheb Ambedkar Dias Plot in Pune city and works for a private company.

A 24-year-old Indian girl is going to have a special wedding. Well, it will definitely be unique of sorts as she is set to marry herself on June 11, media reports said. Yes, there will not be any groom or any kind of baraat. The girl, Kshama Bindu, is poised to have a traditional-style wedding. It will have several rituals, like pheras, sindoor and others.
'Shakuntala', a satellite built in India by an Indian start-up Pixxel, was recently launched into orbit by Elon Musk's SpaceX. This launch occurred on a foreign rocket.

The satellite, which weighed 15kg, was designed and built in India. It was tested at various foreign facilities, amid the COVID-19 lockdown. However, the next satellite made by Pixxel, has already been tested at an ISRO facility and is awaiting to be launched through ISRO's PSLV rocket.

Notably, the testing of the satellite at an ISRO lab was made possible as a part of the Space Sector Reforms that the Indian Government has rolled out since mid-2020. As a part of these reforms, Indian companies could seek ISRO's technical assistance while designing and developing rockets and satellites and also test their hardware at ISRO facilities for a nominal cost.

Testing it at ISRO facilities helps us save on costs and the burden of having to go abroad for testing or even setting up a test facility," he said.

Pixxel's maiden satellite was to be launched on ISRO's PSLV rocket, but that did not materialise owing to the pandemic and the impact it had on India's launch activity. The possibility of launching on-board the SpaceX Transporter rideshare mission was then considered by the start-up.
However, a major factor that companies look into while launching their satellites are also the per kg launch cost. While ISRO is understood to charge around $25,000 per kg of payload on its PSLV rocket, SpaceX is understood to charge barely $5000 per kg of payload on its Falcon 9 rocket. With India expected to launch a low-cost, easy-to-build, 500 kg payload class Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), it is expected that the per kg launch cost would reduce to a certain extent, thus making it an attractive option for customers. In comparison, ISRO managed to accommodate co-passenger satellites in almost all of its PSLV launches.

After two years of painstaking efforts by the Art Recovery International & the India Pride Project, a 3rd century artefact that was stolen from India has been handed over to the Indian mission in Brussels, Belgium.

The sculpture, which was part of the ruined stupas in Andhra Pradesh’s Nagarjunakonda, was handed over to the Indian envoy in Brussels, Santosh Jha, earlier this month.

The Indian mission in Belgium in a tweet said, "We are grateful for their efforts of Art Recovery International (ARI) and India Pride Project (IPP) & working with ASI to arrange its return to India."

Earlier this year, India Pride Project co-founder S Vijay Kumar informed Art Recovery International Founder and lawyer, Christopher A Marinello, that the stolen limestone sculpture had been offered for sale in 2018 by the Belgian Asian Art Trade.

According to the ARI release, the purchaser had relied on a certificate of clearance from a UK based organisation that "regularly mints such documentation for the art trade as a substitute for proper due diligence without conducting provenance research on well documented and published antiquities."

The artefact was housed in an Indian museum until it was stolen in or around 1995.

It depicts the life of Buddha and shows a court scene from the stûpa 3 in Nagarjunakonda. It also shows a royal couple sitting on a throne attended by servants standing behind while a female servant and a child play with a ram in the foreground.

The development comes as Australia on Monday repatriated 29 antiquities to India. The antiquities range in six broad categories as per themes – Shiva and his disciples, Worshipping Shakti, Lord Vishnu and his forms, Jain tradition, Portraits and decorative objects.

These antiquities come from different time periods from 9th to 10th century CE.

The Indian mission in Belgium in a tweet said, "We are grateful for their efforts of Art Recovery International (ARI) and India Pride Project (IPP) & working with ASI to arrange its return to India." Earlier this year, India Pride Project co-founder S Vijay Kumar informed Art Recovery International Founder and lawyer, Christopher A Marinello, that the stolen limestone sculpture had been offered for sale in 2018 by the Belgian Asian Art Trade. According to the ARI release, the purchaser had relied on a certificate of clearance from a UK based organisation that "regularly mints such documentation for the art trade as a substitute for proper due diligence without conducting provenance research on well documented and published antiquities." The artefact was housed in an Indian museum until it was stolen in or around 1995.

Its's one thing to train in blue-water sailing in a creek and entirely another to be doing so at the high seas, in the Bay of Bengal. Well, you could call the transition a sea change.
Sailing on a German-origin, class A yacht, which is meant for navigating the open ocean. However, this is unlike any other expedition.
