A 36-year-old man of Indian origin has been arrested in Canada for his involvement in a multimillion-dollar gold heist at Toronto's main airport. This arrest occurred nearly a month after the arrest of five other people&nbsp;linked to the theft, which has been the largest in the country's history.

On April 17, 2023, a cargo container containing over 22 million Canadian dollars' worth of gold bars and foreign currency was stolen from a secure storage facility using counterfeit documentation, as reported by Peel Regional Police. The stolen goods had been transported via an Air Canada flight from Zurich, Switzerland, to Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

Shortly after the plane landed, the cargo was taken off and moved to another spot on the airport grounds. It was reported missing to the police the next day.

On May 6, 2024, Archit Grover was arrested and charged at the Toronto airport as he arrived from India, according to the police.

Earlier, the police had issued a warrant for his arrest across Canada.

He is accused of theft exceeding $5,000 and conspiracy to commit a serious crime, stated the police in a Thursday release.

Grover was detained for a bail hearing and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. Additionally, he is facing charges related to firearms in the US.

Also, the police said they issued nationwide warrants for Simran Preet Panesar, 31, from Brampton, who worked for Air Canada when the theft happened, and Arsalan Chaudhary, a 42-year-old man from Mississauga.

The police believe that two former Air Canada workers helped with the theft. One is now in jail, and the other has a warrant out for their arrest.

Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick confirmed that Sidhu and Panesar worked for the airline. He said, "One person left the company before today's arrests, and the other has been suspended."

Previously, the police said they found one kilogramme of gold, worth around $89,000 Canadian dollars, believed to be part of the stolen goods, plus equipment for melting gold, and about $434,000 in Canadian currency.

Visa restrictions in New Zealand expected to impact Indian immigrants

A week after the Baltimore bridge collapse, a second temporary channel has been opened to facilitate marine traffic bypassing the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge.&nbsp;

The collapsed bridge had blocked the main shipping channel at the vital port for a week following its destruction.

The new channel, which opened on Tuesday, allows a limited amount of marine traffic to pass through, primarily vessels involved in the clean-up effort and some barges and tugs stuck in the Port of Baltimore.&nbsp;

A third channel is also in the works to accommodate larger vessels and restore more commercial activity, said officials at a press conference on Tuesday (Apr 2).

As per the report citing Governor Wes Moore, the salvage operation has faced challenges due to rough weather conditions over the past two days. Because of the weather, it is unsafe for divers to attempt to recover the bodies of the four construction workers believed to be trapped underwater in the wreckage.

<h2>People cling to windows for escape</h2>

Apart from&nbsp;Fazil, who unfortunately lost his life, 17 others were reported injured while dozens were rendered homeless.&nbsp;Chief of Department John Hodgens said upon arrival, his firefighters found&nbsp;numerous residents on the building’s fire escapes while a few were hanging off windows on the fifth floor.

"The fire was at the top and people were jumping out of the windows," a local&nbsp;Angie Ratchford said, narrating the tragedy.&nbsp;

Hodgens said it was rare to have fires of such intensity but his workers put in a 'heroic' shift to rescue the people.&nbsp;

“We usually have one of these a year or two. This was three at one fire.&nbsp;A very heroic action, and all of those people unfortunately are in critical condition, but they’re at the hospital," said&nbsp;Hodgens.&nbsp;

India's largest nuclear power project Kudankulam is meant to have six 1,000 Megawatt Power plants, with a total installed capacity of 6,000 Megawatts. Of this, the first plant was operationalised in 2013 and the second was operationalised in 2016.

“India is our strategic partner. The Russian-Indian nuclear cooperation lies deep in the first intergovernmental documents on the Indian NPP of Russian design that were signed back in the eighties of the last century. The end of last year was marked by a wonderful joint 10-year anniversary of the Kudankulam NPP power unit No.1 being connected to the power grid of the Republic of India. Our work continues as part of joint projects in various areas of the nuclear energy use and we are optimistic about the further development of our cooperation,” said Alexey Likhachev.

The jury convicted the couple on 12 counts of exportation and 18 counts of money laundering with the prosecutor comparing their crime to the plots of American TV crime dramas such as Breaking Bad and Ozark.&nbsp;

"It's like something out of Breaking Bad or Ozark. It was not the 25-year age gap that was different - it was the fact that they operated in the world of international organised crime,"&nbsp;Prosecutor Hugh French told the court.&nbsp;
