Sharing her experience in the country as an international student, she unveiled the sorry state of affairs in Canada's education system, compounded by high inflation and rent costs.</p>

<p>"I landed there in April 2022, I was studying at Cape Breton University and around that time the influx of immigration was not as bad as it got in the last 12-16 months," she told WION while speaking about her 'Canadian experience'.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When she landed in Canada, Kathore could find accommodation for herself as she already had it planned. She said there were 500 students in that intake and in the next four months, which was the September intake, there was a huge influx of about 3,500 students.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"That is when the housing and rental crisis began for me," she reflected on her time in Canada.</p>

<p>The prices were high and there was a big shortage of housing, she noted adding that students were put in rooms like "pigs."</p>

<p>"In September 2022, when so many students came in, this was an opportunity for Canadian landlords to make money."&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kathore said the inflation is very high, so the landlords are also making money off the students.&nbsp;"In January 2023, the rent started to go way higher. Nobody was stopping these 'slumlords'."&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Was forced to take classes in cinema halls</strong>&nbsp;</h2>

<p>The most shocking thing, she pointed out, was that even when it was just 500 students, they were asked to take classes in cinema theatres.</p>

<p>"My first semester, I spent studying at the cinema theatre. So they did not have infrastructure and then they brought in more than 3,500 students.&nbsp;So they started renting out cinema theatres. So people would go and watch movies there in the evenings and in the morning the universities were renting it out as classrooms."&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kathore, along with her other fellow mates, protested on Facebook pages.</p>

<p>Kathore kept making friends from the new batches to understand the reality of Indian students studying in Canada.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I heard complaints. Students are complaining that the university, without asking for their permission, shuffled their schedule, which the students made for themselves."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Everybody makes their schedule as per their part-time job availability," Kathore said while speaking about how haywire things were.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Health crisis in Canada</strong></h2>

<p>"In Canada, all hospitals and medical facilities are run by the government and there is no option for private hospitals. There is a shortage of staff but unless there is an emergency, you will not get the services," she shared.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kathore, who had aspirations to work in Canada for at least 7-8 years, said&nbsp; the wait line to get a family doctor was nearly two years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Once someone gets the family doctor, they have to do the general checkups. He would then refer me to other doctors... many times people just sit in the hospital with broken hands."&nbsp;</p>

<p>She said that she had&nbsp;met a lot of Canadians who go to America to get treatments if they get some serious health issues.&nbsp;</p>

One is also given the job of a nanny at a medical facility, which is a National Occupation Classification (NOC) C job."</p>

<p>"We are called there to address the labour shortage. I am investing $30,000 but there is no ROI. The education system makes you feel that you don't deserve."</p>

<p>Lubna Nazir Shaboo and her daughter Karima reached Egypt on Monday evening (Nov 13) after crossing the Rafah border between Egypt and Gaza. &nbsp;"They are in al-Arish (a city in Egypt). Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) they will move to Cairo," stated Lubna's husband Nedal Toman, in a text message sent to the Indian news agency PTI from Gaza.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Rafah crossing, which is the only exit route from Gaza, has been opened multiple times in the last few weeks to allow the flow of humanitarian supplies in Gaza and also make it possible for some injured people and foreign nationals to cross over to the other side.</p>

<p>In a telephonic conversation on Sunday (Nov 12), Lubna had stated that her name appeared on the list of people who can exit Gaza and she profusely thanked the Indian missions present in Cairo, Tel Aviv, Ramallah, for making her exit possible.</p>

<p>WION spoke to 39-year-old Indian professional Harsh in Israel who found himself in the midst of the war.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A resident of an Israeli Kibbutz- or community- in the northern part of the country, he opened up about his experiences and his unwavering commitment to Israel, a country he now calls his home.</p>

<p>Even as India has launched a mission to bring its citizens back to the home country, Harsh is staying put, because for him, the community is family.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I am on a working visa here. I mean the situation is very critical in all over Israel but where I live in north part of Israel, in kibbutz, the situation is under control.”</p>

<p>Asked about the availability of safe houses or bunkers, he said, "It is everywhere. We have bomb shelters in each city and village. We have phone applications. Sometimes we get a notification on the app if there is any danger or any emergency. We have air raid sirens in place as well."</p>

<p>It's a matter of seconds when the alarm goes off.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Whenever we get any notification, we need to run in 15 seconds or under one minute."</p>

<p>Just yesterday, an alarming situation unfolded, he shared. "There was some critical situation there, and we got the message that there were some gliders-like unknown objects in the skies hovering around here, and they started shooting over people here on the ground."</p>

<p>In war situations, quick decisions must be made in such moments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"No, I am not planning to come back. I am planning to stay. I am here on a working visa, so I am devoted to this country and I just don't want to run away anywhere. Even if I have to fight, I am willing to do that."</p>

<p>While speaking, there was a sense of belonging I felt in him for Israel.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Given the government security, I have no fear inside the community I live. I am just worried about the things that are happening in other places."</p>

<p>The Kibbutz has become more than a place of residence. It is a home for him now.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A Singaporean Chinese cab driver is facing an investigation from his employer for allegedly verbally abusing a woman and her daughter during a ride due to a misunderstanding regarding the destination and an assumption that the woman was of Indian origin, media reports said.&nbsp;Janelle Hoeden, a 46-year-old woman of Eurasian origin, recounted the incident, stating that the cab driver insulted her by saying, "You are Indian, you are stupid." As per reports, the incident unfolded on Saturday (September 23). Hoeden was accompanied by her nine-year-old daughter during the ride.</p>

<h2><strong>Recorded interaction</strong></h2>

<p>Hoeden recorded the escalating confrontation on her phone during the incident. She had booked the ride using the TADA ride-hailing platform at around 2 pm on September 23. According to reports citing The Straits Times, the ride initially proceeded without any issues. However, the situation took a turn when the driver became agitated due to road construction along the route in the Pasir Ris housing estate.</p>

<p>The driver allegedly started shouting at Hoeden, accusing her of providing incorrect address details and directions.&nbsp;"He started shouting at me, saying that I gave him the wrong address and wrong directions," she said.</p>

<p>The video of the incident was shared on Hoeden's Facebook page. It was later also posted by a TikTok user and an alternative news site called Wake Up Singapore.</p>

<p>In the contentious video, the driver, who is of Chinese descent, repeatedly asserted that Hoeden's daughter was under the height requirement of 1.35 meters.</p>

<p>During the incident, the driver shouted racially insensitive comments at Hoeden, saying, "You are Indian, I'm Chinese... You are the very worst kind."</p>

<p>The principal of AJC Bose College told Indian Express,&nbsp;"Last year, we issued a similar advisory for our students. But despite such notice, some students were seen coming to the college in torn jeans. We don’t want our students to come to the campus in such attire." The head added that&nbsp;the college would not allow entry to any student found wearing indecent clothes.</p>

<p>Following this notice, students at the colleges demonstrated against the authorities and said they wouldn't&nbsp;follow the rules.</p>

<p>Since students didn't follow the previously issued advisory, the college this year is aiming to&nbsp;make a strong impact, which is why&nbsp;new students will have to sign the undertaking to get into the college.</p>

<p>Students are free to wear any type of outfit outside the college premises but they will have to follow the rules when in college. The principal also claimed that the undertaking would enforce strict discipline in the college.</p>

'No torn jeans allowed': Kolkata college asks students to sign affidavit

<p>A 68-year-old Indian man was stabbed 17 times in broad daylight in Canada while he was out with his granddaughter.</p>

<p>The gruesome attack took place on Tuesday in Oshawa around 10.45 am when he was out for his routing walk with his one-and-half-year-old granddaughter.</p>

<p>Though the local police have not revealed the victim’s identity, the New Delhi-based Hindustan Times newspaper has confirmed that the victim’s name is Dilip Kumar Dholani, a resident of Ahmedabad in Gujarat.</p>

<p>Dholani arrived last week and has been staying with the family at their residence in Oshawa town in the Greater Toronto Area or GTA.</p>

<p>Local reports said that the attack took place just a few kilometres from the house of the victim’s family.</p>

<p>Their surveillance camera caught the whole incident showing the attacker running across the street in full sprint and then repeatedly stabbing&nbsp;Dholani.</p>

<p>Even while lying on the ground with injuries, Dholani continued to shout for help and didn’t let go of his granddaughter till his daughter-in-law and neighbours rushed to his assistance.</p>

<h2><strong>Indian community outraged&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Afterwards, police were called in and Dholani was immediately rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre for treatment. The victim is currently in critical but stable condition.</p>

<p>According to media reports, the toddler remains uninjured.</p>

<p>On Wednesday, the police arrested the 20-year-old accused Noah Denyer, of Oshawa, from a residence nearby.</p>

<p>“It was actually a lot of video surveillance and witnesses that came forward that led us to a quick apprehension of this suspect,” Duty Insp. Chris Ludlow told CTV news.</p>

<p>Police believe the attack appeared to be random and the victim and suspect did not know one another.</p>

However, Nasrulla has dismissed any romantic involvement between them and confirmed that Anju will return to India on August 20 when her visa expires, PTI news agency reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Anju is on a visit to Pakistan and we have no plan to marry," Narulla told PTI in a telephonic conversation from the district's Kulsho village. <p>Anju's visa is valid until August 20, after which she will return to India as per the official documents from the Ministry of Interior.</p>

<p>Nasrulla has provided an affidavit to the local authorities stating that there is no romantic involvement, and Anju will abide by the visa regulations.</p>
