Preparations are in full swing as India are set to host Pakistan in a marquee ODI World Cup 2023 clash on Saturday (Oct 14) at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Ahead of the big-ticket clash, as many as over 11,000 personnel of various agencies, including Gujarat Police, NSG, RAF, and home guards among others are set to&nbsp;be deployed in Ahmedabad and at the&nbsp;stadium for the smooth conduct of the match, a senior officer said told.

The official confirmed that the high-level security arrangements have been put in place following threats.&nbsp;A detailed meeting has been held between the&nbsp;Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel,&nbsp;Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi, state DGP Vikas Sahay, GS Malik and other senior police officers in Gandhinagar to analyse and review the police's action plan.

Malik said while addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad, "Along with more than 7,000 police personnel, we will deploy nearly 4,000 home guards to secure the stadium and to maintain law and order in communally sensitive areas of the city during the match. In addition to these personnel, we will deploy three 'hit teams' and one anti-drone team of the NSG. Nine teams of our bomb detection and disposal squad will also be utilised."

"Apart from 13 companies of the state reserve police (SRP), we will deploy three companies of Rapid Action Force as part of our security setup. The RAF will keep a watch on communally sensitive areas of the city. To help people in case of a stampede, we have already prepared an evacuation plan and rehearsals are also going on at the stadium," Malik further claimed.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the sale of 14,000 tickets for the upcoming India vs Pakistan match in the ODI World Cup 2023. The highly anticipated clash between the arch rivals is set to take place at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.

The demand for tickets for the marquee game has been very high since the World Cup schedule was announced. The first batch of tickets were sold out in a few hours of release and a controversy broke out after that. The fans rued not getting the tickets despite trying for hours.

The BCCI had released another batch of tickets afterwards which were also sold out pretty quickly. Seeing the demand, the BCCI took the decision to sell more tickets and said in a release: "The release of 14,000 tickets for the highly anticipated India v. Pakistan match to be held on October 14, 2023, at Ahmedabad."

The nine holy days are celebrated with much fanfare in the city of Ahmedabad and adjoining areas.

The BCCI, keeping the same thought in mind, decided to shift the game a day prior on October 14.

The game will be the third one for both India and Pakistan. While Pak had already registered a win in their opening game against Netherlands, India will take on Australia in their campaign opener on Sunday, October 8 in Chennai.

In what was billed as a close contest turned into a lopsided affair, as India fired a whopping 10 goals past a hapless Pakistani defence to register its biggest-ever win over their traditional rivals in a Pool A match of the Asian Games on Saturday.

The gobsmackingly surreal match saw India running riot over their arch-rivals to register a thumping 10-2 victory.

Leading from the front, India skipper Harmanpreet Singh scored four goals and Varun Kumar fired a brace to virtually seal the contest.

Four quick goals from the Indians broke the back of the Pakistani defence and literally opened the flood gates.

The biggest-ever win over their arch-rivals also saw India storm into the semi-finals.

Mandeep Singh scored India's first goal in the 8th minute of the 1st quarter. Pakistan earned its first penalty corner in the 10th minute.

Skipper Harmanpreet scored India's second goal with a penalty stroke in the 11th minute. While Pakistan went into an all-out attack in opening quarter, India came away as the better of the two sides at the end of it with a 2-0 lead.

India introduced goalkeeper PR Sreejesh for the 2nd quarter.

Harmanpreet logged a brace in the 3rd quarter as India extended their lead to 3-0. Moments before the half-time whistle, India earned 4th goal following a referral.

India scored their 5th, with Harmanpreet bringing up a hat-trick in the 2nd half. The Indian captain scored his fourth with a monster drag flick, extending India's lead to 6-0 in the 34th minute.

With a spring in their steps, India stepped up, switched&nbsp;gears and made further forays into the Pakistani deep defence. Abdul Rehman, however, earned Pakistan a penalty corner against the run of play as he dodged past three Indian defenders, converting defence into attack with subtle stick work.

Pakistan scored their first as Sufiyan Khan found the target in the 38th minute of the one-sided encounter.

However, in a spectacular counter-attacking effort thereafter, Varun Kumar sprinted past Pakistani defenders to score a goal through a deflection in the 41st minute. Shamsher's goal took India's tally to 8 in the 46th minute.

In the 49th minute, Lalit Upadhyay, with an assist from Jarmanpreet Singh, scored India's ninth goal. Varun fired India's tenth in the 53rd minute of the game.

India will face off against Bangladesh in the last-four clash on Monday.

"However, if we judge purely based on the team's performance, India definitely will be a better team," he added.&nbsp;

"If I talk about Pakistan, they are a miss and hit this time. The absence of Naseem Shah will be a big disadvantage because Naseem and Shaheen (Afridi) used to complement each other with new ball," the former seamer added.

Former Pak batter Saeed Anwar calls India's death bowling 'TERRIBLE' ahead of ODI World Cup

The recently concluded Asia Cup tournament saw India and Pakistan face off each other twice. While the group-stage match couldn't be completed due to rain, India came out triumphant in the Super Four stage. The players from both teams showed a lot of 'respect and camaraderie' to each other during the games both on and off the field. Some former cricketers, however, called out the 'lack of aggression' between the two teams as compared to older India and Pakistan teams.

Reacting to the same question, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf snapped at a journalist before his team's departure to India for the ODI World Cup which starts on October 5. India and Pakistan are set to face off each other on October 14 in Ahmedabad during the quadrennial tournament.

“Why should I go and fight with Indians? It is cricket and not war," Rauf said in response to the question on aggression.

Pakistan team's departure to India also got delayed after some issues in receiving an India visa. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had written to the International Cricket Council (ICC) about the issue on Monday, September 24 and hours after that they got the visas.

Pakistan are scheduled to play two warm-up games&nbsp;against New Zealand and Australia&nbsp;on September 29 and October 3, respectively, before starting their campaign on October 6 against the Netherlands.

According to reports, they remain the only team yet to receive visa clearance with the rest of the eight traveling teams cleared.

The tensions between the nations have been a big friction point for the nations to cross the border. The two nations have not played a bilateral series since 2012-13 when Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1. Pakistan have not been in India since the 2016 T20 World Cup, with recent encounters between India and Pakistan coming in multi-national tournaments.

Recently Pakistan’s football team traveled to India for the SAFF Championships in Bengaluru while their Hockey team crossed the Attari - Wagah border to play in the Asian Champions Trophy in Chennai. It is expected that the Pakistan cricket team will get the required documents cleared before Wednesday. They are expected to travel to India on Thursday with their warm-up game scheduled for Friday.

They will start their ODI World Cup campaign against qualifiers Netherlands on Friday, October 6. They will then take on Sri Lanka on Tuesday before facing India in the high-voltage clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday, October 14.

<h2>What is the prize money?</h2>

The ICC will distribute prize money from a total pool of $10 million with the winner of each match in the league stage getting $40,000 each. Teams failing to make the semifinal stage will get a prize money of $100,000 each. In a unique decision, ICC has asserted it will distribute equal prize money for both men’s and women’s events in the future. A total of 10 teams will participate in the marquee tournament with a round-robin format for the league stage.

India qualified for the ODI World Cup as the hosts while New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa progressed through the Super League stage. On the other side, the Netherlands and Sri Lanka needed qualifiers to get into the World Cup league phase. Interestingly, there is no place for two-time champions West Indies with Zimbabwe also missing out. Both failed to qualify for the World Cup through the playoffs.

A total of $1.8 million will be distributed for winning the 45 matches in the league phase while $600,000 will go to the six teams getting eliminated in the league stage. The losing semifinalists will get $800,000 each, comprising of a combined $1.6 million. Runners-up will receive $2 million with the winners pocketing $4 million.

The tournament will start on Thursday, October 5 as defending champions England take on New Zealand in a repeat of the 2019 edition’s final. The semifinals of the World Cup will take place in Mumbai and Kolkata, subject to temporary changes. If India reach the World Cup semifinal and don’t face Pakistan, the match will take place in Mumbai while if India and Pakistan go head-to-head in the semifinal, then the match will take place in Kolkata.

The final of the ODI World Cup will take place in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, November 19.

<h2>USA to stage T20 World Cup</h2>

“We’re delighted to announce the three USA venues that will host part of the biggest ICC Men’s T20 World Cup ever staged, with 20 teams competing for the trophy. The USA is a strategically important market and these venues give us an excellent opportunity to make a statement in the world’s biggest sport market,” ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.

USA and West Indies were selected as co-hosts for the global tournament back in November 2021, when the ICC Board awarded them the hosting rights. The venues were chosen following an extensive evaluation of several options.

Modular stadium solutions will be applied to increase facilities for the upcoming event. An agreement has been reached for the construction of a 34,000-seat modular stadium in Eisenhower Park, a purpose-built sports and events park in Nassau County, New York, on awarding of the required permit next month.

This will be the second time West Indies will host the marquee tournament having last seen action of the T20 World Cup in 2010. England were crowned champions for the first time in 2010 when they beat Australia in the final. The win also saw them win their maiden T20 World Cup title under the leadership of Paul Collingwood. Interestingly, England are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup having won the title in 2022 in Australia.

Several other potential venues have been identified for pre-event matches and training. These include George Mason University in Washington, which is the home for Major League Cricket (MLC) team Washington Freedom.

While there was no stipulation of having an additional reserve day for this marquee clash earlier, the ACC, in consultation with the BCCI, PCB and remaining boards, decided to add one midway into the tournament.

With rains forecasted to play a spoilsport during the India-Pakistan Super Four tie in Colombo, given their match earlier suffered the same fate, the ACC, out of nowhere, added a reserve day for this marquee clash that paid dividends as the game got its result with India winning the tie with 228 runs.

Seemingly upset with BCCI and ACC’s bossiness over tweaking rules as per their convenience, Ranatunga slammed the cricket’s governing body for not taking any stand over the powerful cricket boards sidelining other teams in the same competition. Speaking to PTI at an event, the former Sri Lanka veteran said,

"You take the Asia Cup. You have rules before the tournament, but before that one game, they changed the rules," Ranatunga was quoted by PTI as saying during an interaction with members of the media. "Where is ACC? Where is ICC? I am not very comfortable when you have a tournament where you change the rules for one team. You are looking at a disaster in the future.”

Ranatunga tore into ICC’s stance on the same, adding everyone cares about their positions and wants to fill pockets, putting the interest of the game in the backseat.

"I feel very sad for ICC and ACC because they just want to hold the positions. Former cricketers too don't open, simply because they need the bucks,” he added.

<h2>'ICC just talks rubbish'</h2>

Ranatunga said that given how quickly things unfolded during the Asia Cup, he wouldn’t be surprised to see if any such thing happens during the India-Pakistan match during the World Cup 2023.

"I won't be surprised if they change the rule before the India-Pakistan game [at the upcoming ODI World Cup]," Ranatunga went on. "ICC will keep their mouth shut and say 'Okay, do it'. ICC just talks rubbish, nothing happens."

Ranatunga asked why other boards kept quiet when the announcement for the reserve day was made. He added that the Indian board is powerful and can get away with it.

"Why do the other countries allow that to happen? Because the BCCI is powerful, or one particular person is powerful. No, it can't happen like that. They should have given an extra day for all the games if that was the case," Ranatunga added.

Asia Cup: India's win vs Sri Lanka was more convincing than Pakistan, says former opener Gautam Gambhir

Pakistan coach Grant Bradburn is 'grateful' for the drubbing handed to his team by India in Super Four clash of the Asia Cup 2023. It was Pakistan's biggest loss in terms of runs in ODIs against India as they lost the game by 228 runs while chasing 356.

"My gut feeling is that we are grateful for the gift that has been this last two days," Bradburn told reporters after the match.

"We don't get to play some of the best players in the world very often," he added. "We haven't lost a game of cricket for the last three months, so it's a timely reminder that we need to turn up every day, put in our best on the park, and it's actually a gift in the last two days we haven't done that."

The game was extended into the reserve day after rain interruption and Pakistan looked lost in all departments, something Bradburn agrees.

"We lost at all facets of the game," Bradburn said. "No excuses, we weren't good enough in the last two days."

India, thanks to skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill's fifties, had a great platform for other batters. After ending the first day on 147/2 in 24.1 overs, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul both hit sensational centuries on the reserve day as India piled on 356/2 in 50 overs.

Pakistan were never in the hunt as they kept losing wickets in regular interval, eventually folding down for a paltry 128. Kuldeep Yadav was India's ace bowler, picking up a five-for to help pack things quickly.

Apart from losing, Pakistan had more to worry about as their two premium pace bowlers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah didn't bat due to niggles. The duo is now doubtful for the remainder of the Asia Cup but the PCB insist the injuries are not serious in nature.

As play resumed on Monday, news broke out that Haris Rauf, Pakistan's express pacer, will not be bowling for the remainder of the Indian innings due to a precautionary measure.

Morne Morkel, Pakistan's bowling consultant, told the broadcasters, "He (Haris Rauf) started feeling his oblique muscle last night. He had a scan and it revealed some inflammation. With the World Cup round the corner, it is precautionary and we'll have to use the other boys to fill the overs. About yesterday's bowling, I felt that we weren't on the money from the get-go, and that's why we were hit for a few runs."

Rauf bowled five overs and conceded only 27 overs on Sunday (September 10) after Babar Azam-led Men in Green opted to bowl first in the Super Four clash. Playing for the first time since early May, plenty of question marks were raised on Rahul’s fitness as he missed the West Indies and Ireland tour in July and August. His participation in the Asia Cup was also a big talking point, but all those questions were answered on Monday at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo as he smashed his sixth ODI ton for the national side. Virat too was in excellent form as he brought his 77th international ton for Team India. He also competed 13,000 runs in ODI’s and is the quickest to reach the milestone. He remained unbeaten 122 off 94 deliveries with his innings consisting of nine fours and three sixes. He now resides within two hundreds of Tendulkar and could surpass him in the coming months as India have multiple ODI series and tournament to play.

India in their 50 overs put 356/2 as Pakistan will have a big run chase in hand when they take it to the batting duties. The match still has a good possibility of washout with rain having played spoilsport on Sunday.&nbsp;
