Rohit &amp; Co. also have a good bowling attack but they will miss the services of Jasprit Bumrah. Thus, India's former head coach Ravi Shastri believes India would have started&nbsp;on an equal footing, if not as favourites, had Bumrah been in the squad. He added that Australia are favourites but Indian players have the edge in terms of match fitness thanks to the recently-concluded IPL 2023.</p>

<h2><strong>'Match fitness might come into play'</strong></h2>

<p>"I would say if you look at pace attack, if Bumrah was there, I would say it was equal with an attack of Mohammed Shami, Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. But that Aussie attack with Starc, Cummins, may be the match fitness that will come into play," Shastri said at the ICC's 'Afternoon with Test Legends' event.</p>

<p>"Match fitness might come into play," Shastri reckoned. "You need some cricket behind you and staying in the park for six hours for five days is different from bowling in nets for two hours every day," he further opined.&nbsp; "Shami might be key as he has been playing a lot of cricket," Shastri further asserted. Shami ended with 28 scalps in IPL 2023 and won the Purple Cap. Thus, his form certainly keeps India in good stead heading into the marquee finale.</p>

<p>Shastri, who was in the Indian dressing room when Virat Kohli-led India lost a rain-marred WTC final in Southampton in 2021,&nbsp;also pointed out that the second cycle of the WTC has been much different.</p>

<p>"When you don't win, it hurts as you are not there to fill in numbers. But if I look in hindsight, compared to that World Test Championship cycle, it's chalk and cheese. There was COVID-19, quarantines. It was hard on players, 14 days in isolation and then seven days of training. Here both teams have had time to prepare and this one will be a good contest," he added.</p>

<p>Whoever wins the WTC final will become the first-ever team to have won all ICC events (ICC ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy, WTC) at least once.</p>

A lot of senior players were missing on that trip and that was certainly the best we played outside India. Again, the last series we played against India was another exciting series, difficult pitches and challenging ones. But we managed to go through that,"&nbsp;Hitman added.</p>

I think the World Test Championship now, having the two best teams play in a final, I think that's great. It adds a little bit more relevance, I suppose, to Test cricket. So it's what we all work towards for a couple of years. And this week should be an exciting one, and yeah the guys are looking forward to it."</p>

<h2>Smith aware of Shami, Siraj threat</h2>

<p>With the Indian camp keeping the cards close to their chest about the final XI against Australia, Smith remains aware of two-seamers who will play – Shami and Siraj. Considering the use of Duke Ball during the final and how good form both these pacers are in, they will be some threat to the daunting Aussie line-up.</p>

<p>"I think they've got a good mix obviously of quality seam bowlers. Shami and Siraj, probably their two main guys who have really good skills, and I think the Duke ball suits them nicely. And then obviously their spinners as well, who bowl really well in all conditions. So, I think they're a good attack and yeah, we're going to have to play well against them this week," Smith, who averages closer to 60 from 96 Tests, said.</p>

Though they remained unbeaten at home in Tests, India’s only low point in this cycle came during the away Test series against South Africa in 2021/22, where despite winning the first game, they lost the three-match series 2-1.</p>

<p>"Not at all; we don't feel any pressure in terms of trying to win an ICC trophy. Of course, it would be nice to do it. Nice to be able to win an ICC tournament," Dravid said during the presser ahead of the WTC Final.</p>

<p>"But also, in the context of things, you look at this, and you see this is the culmination of 2 years of work, the culmination of a lot of success that gets you here. There are a lot of positives to take from that, see where you stand in the table, winning series in Australia, drawing series here. Being very competitive, this team has played in the world over in the last 5-6 years. Those are things that will never change, just because, you don't have an ICC trophy. That's really the bigger picture," the head coach added.</p>

<p>"But, of course, it would be nice to be able to lift... any game of cricket, you want to win it. This happens to be the WTC final, and it would be nice to get on the right side of the result," Rahul said.</p>

Already regarded as the toughest place to bat given the impact of outside factors, including swing in the air and movement off the pitch, Rohit spoke on the same lines - admitting even despite tremendous hard work, batters never really feel they are in.</p>

<p>Speaking during an ICC event – ‘Afternoon with Test Legends’, Rohit said to be successful in England maintaining concentration for longer durations is the key. He added that if a batter is ready to grind out in the middle, chances of lasting longer at the crease increase.</p>

<p>"In England, in general, it's pretty challenging conditions for batters. As long as you are prepared to have a good grind, you can have success," Rohit said ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia, starting June 7th at the Oval in London.</p>

<p>Having attained an impressive average of over 50 in this WTC cycle, Rohit - who had played several Tests in these conditions earlier, said though he backs his style of play, he wouldn’t mind at least knowing about the pattern of some of the most successful batters in England over the years.</p>

<p>"I am not going to try and emulate them (successful players) but it would be a bit nice to know their pattern of scoring. What I have found out at Oval is that the square boundaries are pretty quick," Rohit added.</p>

<h2>Time to cross the line</h2>

<p>Having come close on a few occasions across formats in the past decade, India failed to cross the line and win an ICC trophy. With them in stupendous form lately, India has a good chance to put everything behind them and chase the glory. Addressing the same, the Indian captain said,</p>

<p>"It keeps challenging you. You want to be in these situations. You look forward, and as a person, it brings the best out of you. In the last 3-4 years in Test cricket, we have had good success. Now it is about crossing that final hurdle and giving that confidence to youngsters so that they can play in the way they want to play," Rohit concluded.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the Indian team trained at the Oval on Sunday as players sweat it out on a sunny afternoon in London.</p>

<p>Rahane would also be looking to achieve the 5K Test-run milestone as he currently stands 69 runs short at 4,931 runs in 82 Tests at an average of 38.52.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the last time, around two years ago, Shastri was the head coach of the team when India played the inaugural final against New Zealand in Southampton. That time also India had to decide whom to play – either Jadeja or Ashwin, both, or an extra batter in Hanuma Vihari - and the team picked both all-rounders. In that rain-marred contest, India lost the match by eight wickets.</p>

<p>Taking a note from that experience, Shastri said India must read the conditions well and depending on that, should name the final XI.</p>

<p>"When you look at the WTC, if I remember from the last time India were in the final, what you learn from that game is very important," Shastri said. "You've got to pick a team that suits the conditions. Last time in Southampton, the weather was really overcast,” he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It is a good wicket, but it can offer a lot to the spinners as the game goes on.”</p>

The shades of the kit remain blue for the white-ball format with white strips on the shoulders with one of the kits for either format on the darker side. <h2><strong>To provide kits for 2023, 2027 ODI World Cups</strong></h2>

<p>The kit sponsorship will&nbsp;run until 2028 with Adidas, during which they will be the official sponsors of the kit for the 2023 and 2027 ODI World Cup. They will also provide kits for the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in 2025.</p>

<p>There is a good news coming from the Aussie camp as we near the start of the World Test Championship Final between India and Australia at the Oval in London. Star seamer Josh Hazlewood believes he has a realistic chance of breaking into the playing XI for the India tie following almost attaining full fitness.</p>

<p>Hazlewood has had a troubled time with injuries for the past six months at least. After getting ruled out of the final home Test of the season against South Africa at the SCG, Hazlewood missed the entire India tour, which included the four-match Border-Gavaskar series and the three ODIs that followed due to an Achilles issue.</p>

<p>Because of the same reason, he joined his IPL franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore late in mid-April and, even then, could play just three games in the season. The Aussie quick left the tournament early, complaining about soreness in his left side.</p>

<p>Upon joining the Australia team before leaving for the UK for the WTC Final and then the Ashes, Hazlewood bowled a bit in Sydney. After the team landed in West Lancashire, Josh went about his business in the nets&nbsp;bowling in rhythm.</p>

<p>With a few of the former players, including Ponting, revealing their Australia XI for the WTC Final, dropping Hazlewood for Scott Boland, Josh believes he is doing fine fitness-wise, and after he takes the heavy workload in the nets in the coming days, it will be&nbsp;decided if he gets his chance or not.</p>

<h2>Hazlewood confident of playing in WTC Final</h2>

<p>"My fitness is pretty good," Hazlewood said while speaking with the ICC. "It is just a matter of ticking off every session from here until that date basically."</p>

<p>"In T20, you are bowling a lot of various different balls every over. A wide yorker to a bouncer to a slower ball, and [the side] just got jammed up a little bit, and a bit of scar tissue from previous injuries flared up."</p>

<p>"It calmed down pretty quickly. I had a week off, I didn't quite get back to going 100 per cent at [the] IPL, but the last few bowls have been good, and I have been building up nicely," he added.</p>

<p>Earlier, the Aussie team trained at Formby and will now hold a three-day camp at Beckenham. Hazlewood, who is&nbsp;fighting for that one spot with Boland, will likely get through two solid bowling sessions – one on Thursday and then on Saturday before the management takes a final call on the playing XI.</p>

<p>Following the one-off Test for the coveted trophy, Australia will play the Ashes, starting June 16th in Edgbaston.<br />

While the consensus says India might go ahead with Bharat for that one spot, many feel, including Ponting, that going with Kishan will be a better choice. &nbsp;</p>

<p>"If I was them [India], knowing the importance of this game - and you have to win this Test match - I'd be going with Ishan Kishan in this game," Ponting said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.</p>

<p>"He provides that little bit of X-factor that you need when you might be pushing for a win in a Test match. Obviously, if Rishabh Pant is fit, he is playing, and he provides that X-factor for India. But with him not being there, and this is no blot on Bharat whatsoever, I think Kishan just provides that little bit more X-factor, who'd do a good job with the gloves but can provide that really high-scoring run rate that is required in a one-off Test match to push for a win,” Ponting added.</p>

<p>Ponting said considering what is at stake and this one-off Test is all to play for, he would rather play all the x-factors to ensure India puts Australia under pressure and take the game home.</p>

<p>"I'd be going with as many X-factor players as I could and put some real pressure back on Australia," Ricky further opined.</p>

<p>Ishan and Suryakumar Yadav, two x-factors in Ponting’s eyes, were part of the BGT earlier that India won 2-1. While Surya played the Nagpur Test, and scored eight runs in the only inning he batted in, Ishan warmed the benches during the series.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Although Ishan is considered to be a better white-ball player, given his recent exploits, wherein he became the fourth Indian batter to complete two hundred runs in an ODI inning recently, his first-class numbers read 2985 runs in 48 matches, averaging 38.76 - which are good enough to push for a case in the XI against the mighty Aussies.</p>
