An emergency has been declared in 12 districts of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The move comes amid growing concerns over the situation in the affected areas. Authorities are expected to coordinate response measures and monitor developments across the districts. The PTI government in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been dissolved, marking a significant political development in the province. The move raises questions about the province’s political future, governance, and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s next steps.

Imran Khan supporters begin march to Islamabad, demand his release

Leaders of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party have vowed to proceed with a nationwide demonstration demanding his release, despite a sweeping security operation aimed at preventing supporters from reaching Islamabad. Dozens of party leaders and ministers have been detained or made subject to arrest warrants this week. Khan's three sisters were also arrested on Monday and remain in custody on charges related to alleged threats to national security.

Sohail Afridi, chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is among those facing arrest. The province is a stronghold of PTI and is expected to send thousands of supporters toward Islamabad. Afridi said the party would proceed with the march unless the government made significant concessions concerning Khan's treatment and prison conditions, including what PTI describes as a fair hearing in his cases.

“The government is panicking, that’s why they have put Islamabad under siege, that’s why they are abducting our ministers,” he said. “But Imran Khan is the most popular leader of the country and people will come out for him. I am certain they won’t be able to stop the public power of the masses when they come out on streets and take to Islamabad.” Afridi also acknowledged concerns that the extensive security deployment could increase the risk of clashes between protesters and security forces.

Also Read: Pentagon quietly adds 37 wounded troops to Iran war tally without explaining when or how

Islamabad put under heavy security

Pakistan's government has deployed tens of thousands of security personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and shut the main highway linking Peshawar with Islamabad. Afridi said PTI supporters expected resistance from the authorities but intended to proceed with a large turnout.

“I know they can go to any extent to stop us by brute force, we have no doubt about it,” Afridi said. “But if we have a large number of people, they can’t open fire at us. PTI alleges that Khan has been held in solitary confinement and denied adequate medical care as well as contact with his family and lawyers for extended periods.

Khan has denied the charges against him and maintains that his imprisonment is politically motivated. His supporters argue that the cases against him are part of efforts to prevent him from returning to political life. The political and legal status of Khan's various cases remains contested, with PTI pointing to court rulings that have overturned several convictions.

Also Read: Pentagon quietly adds 37 wounded troops to Iran war tally without explaining when or how Islamabad put under heavy security Pakistan's government has deployed tens of thousands of security personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and shut the main highway linking Peshawar with Islamabad. More than 1,000 shipping containers have been used to block roads, with some fitted with spikes. Sandbags have also been placed on bridges, while a major highway into the capital has been closed. Public gatherings have been prohibited in Islamabad, and around 22,000 police and other security personnel have been deployed across the city. Afridi said PTI supporters expected resistance from the authorities but intended to proceed with a large turnout. “I know they can go to any extent to stop us by brute force, we have no doubt about it,” Afridi said. “But if we have a large number of people, they can’t open fire at us. Our plan is to bring so many people that they surrender.” Faisal Karim Kundi, the central government's appointed governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, defended the security measures and accused PTI of attempting to create “instability and violence”. “The state can’t allow any violent group to march on Islamabad,” Kundi said. PTI says Khan remains a political force Despite the government's efforts to restrict PTI activities and reduce Khan's visibility in the media, the party maintains that the former prime minister remains a major political figure.

Pakistan deploys over 20,000 security personnel as PTI vows march for Imran Khan's release

Pakistan's crackdown on Imran Khan's family has escalated fast. A day after sister Aleema Khan was detained in Lahore, sisters Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were also placed under 30-day detention under Punjab's Maintenance of Public Order law. Imran's son Kasim Khan called it "a disgrace," alleging his aunts and cousins Shershah, Shahrez, Azeem and Sakeenah were taken from their homes with no explanation. PTI says the arrests are political victimisation, timed just before its September 27 protest march demanding Imran Khan's release.

The sons of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan—Kasim and Sulaiman Khan—have publicly accused Army Chief General Asim Munir of pursuing a "personal vendetta" against their father. Speaking out from London, they expressed grave fears that the 73-year-old leader is being "slowly killed" inside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail through severe solitary confinement in a 6x8ft cell and critical medical neglect. Describing his treatment as a form of "mental and physical torture," they revealed that untreated eye issues have left him near blind in one eye while Pakistani authorities block both independent doctor visits and family communications.

The sons of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, have criticised the British government over what they describe as an inadequate response to their father’s imprisonment. In a new interview with The Telegraph, the brothers said they were disappointed by the assistance offered when they considered travelling to Pakistan to see their father.

The brothers said former British Foreign Secretary David Lammy advised them against travelling to Pakistan and warned that the UK government would not be able to support them if they were arrested or detained. Lammy served as foreign secretary from July 2024 to September 2025.

The controversy comes as concerns over Imran Khan’s prison conditions and access to medical care continue to draw international attention. The brothers have repeatedly called for greater action to ensure they can meet their father.

Meanwhile, 22 former international cricket captains have written to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, renewing their call for proper medical treatment for Imran. The letter followed an earlier appeal signed by 14 former captains in February, which reportedly received no response from the Pakistan government. With inputs from agencies

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s hospital visit has triggered a fresh political confrontation after he was taken from Adiala Jail to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad for a medical checkup before being returned to prison.

Khan’s party, PTI, has filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court, accusing authorities of violating an order that reportedly directed his medical examination at Shifa International Hospital.

The Pakistan government has rejected the allegations, saying security concerns linked to PTI supporters prompted the change in hospital. Officials said a team of doctors examined Khan and declared him medically fit.

PTI has rejected the government’s explanation and maintained that no party workers were present around the hospital.
