Team India will lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in what promises to be a cracker of a game in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday (October 24). The much-awaited clash between the two teams will be played at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai, where Pakistan have a formidable record when it comes to the shortest format of the game.

A lot has been said about India's unbeaten streak against Pakistan in the cricket World Cup. The Men in Blue have a staggering advantage when it comes to the head to head record between the two teams in World Cups. India have never lost a game against Pakistan in an ODI or a T20 World Cup so far.

India have beaten Pakistan in all seven meetings in the ODI World Cup and have won all five matches between them in T20 World Cup so far. India enjoy a 12-0 record against Pakistan in World Cup history and will be aiming to keep the flawless streak intact when they take on Babar Azam & Co. in Dubai on Sunday (October 24).

However, India need to be wary of Babar Azam & Co. in Dubai, which can be considered Pakistan's second home when it comes to cricket. Pakistan are well familiar with the conditions in the UAE and had played a majority of their home matches in the country when international teams were not travelling to Pakistan.

Virat Kohli & Co. should not take the Men in Green lightly as Pakistan are heading into the clash on the back of a magnificent streak in Dubai. Pakistan have been unbeaten in their last six T20I matches in Dubai and will be looking to extend the record against India on Sunday.

Pakistan's unbeaten streak in Dubai:

While India have never lost against Pakistan in World Cup matches, Pakistan have not lost their last six T20I matches in Dubai. Their winning streak started with back-to-back wins against West Indies in September 2016 before Pakistan stunned Australia and New Zealand in two matches apiece at the Dubai International Stadium in 2018.

Pakistan's unbeaten streak in Dubai: Why India shouldn't take Babar Azam & Co. lightly in T20 WC 2021

India are all set to lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 in what promises to be a blockbuster clash at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24. Ahead of the much-awaited clash between the two sides, former Pakistan all-rounder Mudassar Nazar has termed India favourites against Pakistan.

Nazar believes India are a formidable outfit and Pakistan don't stand a chance against Virat Kohli & Co. in the upcoming clash. The former Pakistan all-rounder stated that India are among the top three sides in the world at present.

"I don't think Pakistan has changed. It is India who have changed. India is in the forefront and among the three best sides in the world," Nazar, who played 76 Tests and 122 ODIs for Pakistan, was quoted as saying by AFP.

India and Pakistan will be up against each other for the first time since the 2019 ODI World Cup when they meet in Dubai as the two teams do not engage in bilateral cricket owing to the political tensions between the two countries. The pressure will be immense on players from both sides in a game that will be watched by billions across the globe.

Nazar believes India have all bases covered heading into the clash and that the Kohli-led side has everything from a brilliant batting line-up to a skilful bowling attack which can trouble any team in the world. Nazar said India are looking formidable at present.

"They have got all the areas covered. You talk about fast bowling, you talk about spinners, fielding, the physical side, it's a powerhouse. They seem to be getting top-class batsmen every season. At the moment they are looking very formidable," he said.

Nazar also lauded the BCCI for running a proper cricket ecosystem in India and investing the money from the Indian Premier League (IPL) wisely in improving the cricketing infrastructure across all levels which has helped the Indian team produce great talent.

"With the advent of the IPL, they have used the money really, really well. If you look at the domestic competition in India, look at all the associations, how well they are organising their cricket,” said Nazar.

“Everybody has got their own stadium, their own academies, school cricket, state cricket. Cricket is thriving in India. The BCCI have been very clever in how they used the IPL money. Indian cricket was powerful before that but since then it has seen a lot of consistency,” he added.

Want to see India and Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021 final, says Sunil Gavaskar

KL Rahul is likely to be India's first-choice opener alongside Rohit Sharma in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. Rahul has been in magnificent form over the last couple of years and is heading into the showpiece event on a confident note after finishing third in the list of highest run-getters in IPL 2021.

However, discarded India pacer S Sreesanth believes captain Virat Kohli should open for India with Rohit in the T20 World Cup. Sreesanth feels Rohit and Kohli can form a deadly opening pair for the Men in Blue. Besides Rahul, India also have an in-form Ishan Kishan as a back-opener in the squad.

Kohli and Rohit had opened the innings for India in a couple of matches during the home T20I series against England this year. However, Rahul is likely to keep his spot after yet another stellar IPL season for Punjab Kings with the bat. Nonetheless, Sreesanth said Rahul can bat at number 3 and Kohli should open for India at the T20 World Cup.

“In 2016, when Virat opened the innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), he scored four hundreds. So, I think Virat Kohli should open the innings with Rohit Sharma. Many people may not agree with me, but I think it will be like the deadliest thing. Also, KL Rahul should bat at No. 3. In T20s, Rishabh Pant can bat at No. 4," Sreesanth was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.

Rohit opened the innings with Rahul in India's second warm-up match against Australia on Wednesday. While the Hitman scored a 41-ball 60, Rahul continued his purple patch with 39 off 31 balls. The Men in Blue won the game comfortably by 8 wickets.

Richie Berrington slammed a stroke-filled 70 while Josh Davey snapped four wickets as Scotland inched closer to the Super 12s with a comfortable 17-run win over Papua New Guinea in their Group B match of the ICC T20 World Cup here on Tuesday.

Scotland grabbed the top position in Group B with two wins having shocked Bangladesh in their opening game.
Berrington put on 92 runs off 65 balls with Matthew Cross (45) before adding another 33 with Calum MacLeod (10) as Scotland posted a challenging 165 for 9 after opting to bat.

Kyle Coetzer's men then produced a splendid bowling effort to skittle out PNG for 148 in 19.3 overs with Davey (4/18) emerging as the standout bowler. PNG thus made an early exit to their maiden campaign at the T20 World Cup following the second successive loss.

They had lost to Oman by 10 wickets in their tournament opener. Chasing 166 to win, PNG needed their batters to fire but they couldn't get any momentum and were soon reduced to 35 for 5 in 6 overs.

Norman Vanua (47) and Kiplin Doriga (18) then fought back adding 53 off 29 balls to raise hopes but Watt broke the partnership dismissing the latter in the 17th over. Davey then returned to remove Vanua to dash PNG's slim hopes of a maiden victory in its first global appearance.
Earlier, Berrington slammed three sixes along with six hits to the fence during his 49-ball stay to set the foundation for a big score but PNG put brakes in the last three overs, conceding only 19 runs and taking six wickets in the process.

Kabua Morea (4/31) and Chad Soper (3/24) were the most successful bowlers for PNG. Goerge Munsey smashed three fours to give Scotland a flying start but Morea castled skipper Coetzer at the other end in the third over to deal the first blow.

Munsey too perished soon while trying to muscle a delivery from Soper as Scotland slipped to 26 for 2 in 3.4 overs.
Cross and Berrington then steadied the innings as Scotland reached 67 for two in 10 overs.

Berrington was the main aggressor as he pulled one from Soper for a boundary before dancing down the track and depositing Lega Siaka over long-on for a maximum. He also treated Charles Amini with disdain, pulling him through the square leg region for another four.

Cross then slogswept Amini over deep mid-wicket to bring up their 50-run partner. Berrington also matched his partner with another six over over long-off. Nosaina Pokana was then in the line of fire as Berrington and Cross milked him for 18 runs with the help of two fours and a six as Scotland crossed the 100-mark in 13 overs.

Simon Atai broke the partnership when he had Cross caught at deep mid-wicket in the 15th over. However, it made no difference as MacLeod joined hands with Berrington and got 15 runs off Morea. Berrington then slammed Soper over long-on for another maximum to accumulate 11 runs off the over.

PNG, however, made amends in the last three overs with Pokana bowling a tight over and Soper striking twice in three balls, removing Macleod and Berrington.

In the last over, Michael Leask hit a six but PNG picked up four wickets to keep things in check.

T20 World Cup: Davey, Berrington shine as Scotland inch closer to Super 12 with 17 run-win over PNG

Former Pakistan cricketer Tanvir Ahmed has claimed that Team India are under pressure heading into the T20 World Cup 2021 which is the reason why they have appointed former captain MS Dhoni as a mentor for the tournament. Dhoni has returned to the Indian dressing room, a year after announcing his retirement from international cricket and will be mentoring the Indian team in the showpiece event in UAE and Oman.

India will open their campaign against Pakistan with a blockbuster clash at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24. Ahead of the much-anticipated clash, Ahmed shared his views on India's chances at the showpiece event and insisted that India are a top team but their recent performances have not been up to the mark.

He also pointed out how Virat Kohli's decision to step down as T20 captain after the World Cup shows that he is under pressure and so is the team. The former Pakistan cricketer also raised questions over India's T20 World Cup squad and said most of the players selected were not in the top ten performers in the recently-concluded IPL 2021.

“On paper, there is no doubt that India is a top team. The way they have played cricket around the world, but you have to look at recent performances. Firstly, I’d like to talk about Virat Kohli. He was under a lot of pressure and he quit T20 captaincy. He said I won’t captain in T20s as my performances have not been great," Ahmed said in a show on ARY News and ABP News.

“Then, maybe they were under pressure so they are taking MS Dhoni as a mentor. Even if you look at the IPL, the players in India’s squad were not among the top 10 performers. Their spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have not done very well, so of course, there will be pressure,” he added.

Having Dhoni as a mentor will also help some of the youngsters deal with the pressure of playing on the biggest stage of them all. India will face New Zealand on October 31 after the much-anticipated opener against Pakistan before locking horns with Afghanistan in their next game.

T20 WC: India under pressure, that’s why they are taking MS Dhoni as mentor, says former Pakistan cricketer

India thrashed England by seven wickets in their first warm-up match in Dubai on Monday to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the start of their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021. The batters impressed as fifties from Ishan Kishan (70 off 46 balls) and KL Rahul (51 off 24 balls) helped India chase down the target of 189 runs comfortably with an over to spare.

However, India's bowling woes were left exposed against the formidable English batting line-up during the warm-up clash. Senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar looked completely out of sorts as he went on to concede 54 runs off his four overs and finished wicket-less. Spinner Rahul Chahar also had a disappointing outing as he gave away 43 runs in his four overs while picking up a solitary wicket.

Former India wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel listed a few concerns for India heading into the T20 World Cup and said Bhuvneshwar's form is worrying. Parthiv also expressed concerns over Hardik Pandya's inability to contribute with the ball after the all-rounder once again didn't bowl even a single over in the warm-up game against England.

“I don't think Hardik is going to bowl in the first few games looking at the way Virat Kohli has used only five bowlers,” Parthiv Patel said on Star Sports.

“Yes, I'm worried about Bhuvneshwar Kumar. He looks in the kind of form which he had in the IPL, where he took just six wickets, but yeah, he looked out of rhythm, almost as if didn't practice.

“We might just see Shardul Thakur in the next game. It might be a combination that we might see," Parthiv added.

Hardik didn't bowl at all for Mumbai Indians in the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well and is being seen as a finisher in the squad for the T20 World Cup. India will open their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan with a blockbuster clash in Dubai on October 24.

The Indian team will have another chance to test some players and settle down on their best combination when they take on Australia in their second warm-up match on October 20.

Ireland's Curtis Campher becomes first bowler to take four wickets in four balls in T20 World Cup

Team India will aim to end their ICC trophy drought when they return to action in the T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE and Oman. The Virat Kohli-led side will open their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan with a blockbuster clash at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24.

India's last major ICC trophy came under former captain MS Dhoni when he inspired the Men in Blue to a historic triumph at the Champions Trophy in England. India have since failed to clinch a major ICC trophy and will be desperate to return home with the elusive T20 World Cup title.

Since taking over as the full-time skipper of the Indian team in 2017, Kohli has been instrumental as a batter and a leader in India's success across all three formats of the game. However, an ICC trophy continues to elude the run-machine when it comes to his record as a captain.

Having already announced that he will be stepping down as the captain of the T20I side after the T20 World Cup 2021, Kohli will be hoping to end his captaincy stint in the shortest format on a high and inspire India to their second T20 World Cup title.

Ahead of the start of India's campaign at the showpiece event, here we take a look at the team's performances under Virat Kohli in major ICC events so far -

1) ICC Champions Trophy 2017

The Champions Trophy in 2017 was Virat Kohli's first major assignment as the captain of the Indian team. Up against arch-rivals Pakistan in the very first game of the tournament, India registered a massive win by 124 runs to get their campaign underway in style. The win set the tone for the Men in Blue as they played some phenomenal cricket in the group stages to make it to the knockout round.

In the semi-final, India were up against an in-form and spirited Bangladesh side. Kohli & Co. mauled their oponnents by nine wickets to book a spot in the final where they were once again up against Pakistan. Batting first, Pakistan posted a huge total of 338 runs at the Kennington Oval in London before bowling out India for a paltry 158 as the Men in Blue lost the final by a whopping 180 runs to miss out on the trophy.

2) ICC ODI World Cup 2019

Virat Kohli's first ODI World Cup as the captain of the Indian team couldn't have come at a better time for the skipper. With most of the players at the peak of their prowess, Kohli & Co. were one of the favourites heading into the tournament. They did live up to the expectations and dominated the league stage to top the points table with 15 points from nine matches with just one loss in nine games.

However, India crumbled under pressure in the semi-final against New Zealand. The rain-affected clash was played across two days in Manchester with New Zealand posting a moderate total of 239/8 batting first. India got off to a woeful start in the run-chase as they lost their top three on one run each and were reduced to 3/5 inside the first four overs. MS Dhoni (50) and Ravindra Jadeja (77) led India's fightback and got the team close to a victory. However, India suffered a heartbreaking loss by 18 runs to bow out of the tournament. It also turned out to be MS Dhoni's final game in an India jersey as he announced his retirement on August 15, a year later.

India once again proved to be the best team in the league stages as they lost just one out of six series they took part in during the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship which was played from 2019 to 2021. India's only series defeat came against New Zealand as they topped the rankings in the league stages to make it to the final where they were once again up against the Kiwis.

It was a golden chance for Virat Kohli to extend India's dominance further in Test cricket and bring an end to their ICC trophy drought. However, New Zealand outclassed India in a thrilling final to become the maiden champions of the World Test Championship. New Zealand won the rain-affected final by eight wickets in Southampton to lift the prestigious trophy.

Ahead of the start of India's campaign at the showpiece event, here we take a look at the team's performances under Virat Kohli in major ICC events so far - 1) ICC Champions Trophy 2017 The Champions Trophy in 2017 was Virat Kohli's first major assignment as the captain of the Indian team. As India gear up for T20 World Cup 2021, a look at team's performances in ICC events under Virat Kohli

Scotland pulled off a huge upset as they defeated Bangladesh by 6 runs to get their campaign off to a winning start in the T20 World Cup 2021. All-rounder Chris Greaves turned out to be the hero for Scotland with his heroics with the bat and the ball. Greaves scored a quickfire 45 off 28 balls before picking up two wickets as Scotland stunned Bangladesh.

Greaves' remarkable rise in cricket is nothing short of an inspiring tale as he was working as a delivery boy for Amazon not too long ago. The all-rounder, who played an instrumental role in helping Scotland earn their first-ever win over a Test-playing nation, used to deliver parcels for Amazon, revealed Kyle Coetzer, who is leading the country at the showpiece event.

The 31-year-old's journey has not been an easy one as he comes from a humble background and has worked tremendously hard to realise his dream of playing in a World Cup for Scotland. Greaves came out to bat at number 7 against Bangladesh at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground on Sunday and played a game-changing knock of 45 runs laced with 4 fours and 2 sixes to help his side arrest a collapse and post 140 runs on the board.

Later, he combined with Bradley Wheal to restrict the Bangladesh batting line-up to 134 to secure Scotland's first win at the tournament. While Greaves finished with excellent figures of 2/19 in his 3 overs, Wheal picked up three wickets in his spell while conceding only 24 runs.

Scotland skipper Coetzer revealed how Greaves has sparked a turnaround in his professional career and said he was proud of the work he has put in to stand where he is today.

"I am really proud of Greaves. e really sacrificed a lot. He was delivering parcels for Amazon not too long ago, and now is getting Player of the Match against Bangladesh. I am not sure if he will appreciate me saying this," Coetzer said.

"Seeing the performance from Mark Watt and Chris Greaves with the bat today, they are lesser-known people who had to make many sacrifices to get to where they are today," he added.

Greaves, who made his international debut earlier this month, had once met former England wicket-keeper Matt Prior during a nets session in Wanderers where he created an impression on the Englishman with his skills. Greaves reportedly casually told Prior that he happened to have a British passport and was looking at the UK as an option to play professional cricket.

Prior asked Greaves for his email about the Scottish all-rounder who didn't have one and shared his mother's email address with the former England cricketer. He had never expected to hear back from Prior but recieved an email from the former England cricketer, who helped him join Durham's academy and realise his dream of playing for his country.

Greaved shone at the biggest stage of them all at the T20 World Cup on Sunday and announced his arrival with a splendid show against one of the formidable sides in the Qualifiers. He would be hoping to make the most of his chances in the upcoming games and sign off from the tournament making a name for himself in the shortest format.

R Ashwin's inclusion in India's squad for T20 World Cup 2021 came as a surprise to many. The senior spinner last played a white-ball game for India in 2017 and was a regular only in Tests with not many expecting him to feature in the T20 World Cup squad. However, Ashwin made his comeback into the side and is now likely to be one of the first-choice spinners for the Men in Blue at the showpiece event.

Captain Virat Kohli recently explained the reason behind Ashwin's inclusion in the squad and said the off-spinner was rewarded for reviving his skills in white-ball cricket. Ashwin might not have played white-ball cricket for India since 2017 but remains one of the vital cogs of Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Tamil Nadu side in the domestic circuit.

“Ashwin has been rewarded for reviving his white-ball skills altogether. He bowls with a lot of courage in white-ball cricket,” Kohli said during a press conference organised by ICC on Saturday (October 16).

Kohli further went on to point out how Ashwin has been bowling well in the IPL over the last couple of years and has also taken up responsibility in pressure situations for Delhi Capitals. Kohli believes Ashwin's experience and his confidence heading into the tournament will prove handy for Team India at the T20 World Cup.

“If you saw the IPL in the last couple of years, he’s bowled difficult overs, he’s bowled against the top players in the IPL, and not being shy to put the ball in the right areas. Spinners can get intimidated by the way power hitters hit the ball, but Ashwin believed in his skill set," said the Indian skipper.

“We felt like the way he was bowling and his variations now and his control over pace is something which is… again a lot of experience, a guy who has played a lot of international cricket and he’s at his confident best. These guys can go in there and change the game with their spells," he added.

India will open their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24. It remains to be seen if Ashwin will make the cut in the playing XI for the highly-anticipated clash between the two teams.

R Ashwin was rewarded for reviving his white-ball skills: Virat Kohli on spinner's selection in T20 WC squad

West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards has come out in support of his former teammate Curtly Ambrose after Chris Gayle slammed the former fast bowler over his comments on his selection in the T20 World Cup 2021 squad. Gayle had vented out his frustration against Ambrose after the former pacer said that Gayle should not have been an 'automatic choice' in the Windies' T20 World Cup squad.

Richards has now extended support to Ambrose and said he is entitled to his opinion. The batting legend stated that Ambrose is as much an achiever as Gayle and that the 'Universe Boss' should have respected his opinion even if it was not in his favour.

"It's Curly's honest opinion and he's entitled to that and he is just as much an achiever as Chris Gayle at the highest level," Richards told Daily Observer.

"So when you hear it's coming from an individual who would have also been an achiever and being a legend in the department of the sport we would have represented, you must have respect for that too," he added.

Gayle had lashed out at Ambrose after the former West Indies pacer's remarks on his selection. The veteran left-hander called Ambrose a 'negative person' while asserting that he had 'no respect' for him. Ambrose had said that Gayle's recent form in T20 tournaments didn't guarantee him a spot in the Windies squad.

Gayle, who is the leading run-getter in T20 cricket, has 1854 runs to his name in 74 T20Is for Windies. He has two centuries and 14 fifties to his name in T20Is for West Indies. Richards said if he was Gayle, he would have taken Ambrose's criticism in a positive way.

"If I was Chris, the best positive way I would look at it would be to set my mind on what I would like to accomplish because it is just not Curtly because there are so many folks who would have had their criticisms about Gayle," said Richards.

India to play England, Australia: Complete schedule of T20 World Cup 2021 warm-up matches

Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Avesh Khan is likely to join team India as a net bowler ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE and Oman. Avesh has reportedly been asked by the BCCI to stay back in the UAE after the conclusion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and join the Indian team bubble ahead of the World Cup.

Avesh has been in brilliant form in IPL 2021 so far and is currently the second-highest wicket-taker this season with 23 wickets to his name in 15 matches. He has bowled at a good pace and has also impressed with his consistency. The speedster can also be shifted to the reserves if the team management wants.

"The national selectors have decided to also include Avesh in the mix. As of now, he will be a net bowler but if the team management feels, he can be upgraded," a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.

Besides, Avesh, Sunrisers Hyderabad's new find Umran Malik has also been reportedly asked to join as a net bowler for team India ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021. Malik grabbed the limelight with his raw pace on his debut against Kolkata Knight Riders where he clocked over 151 kmph and shattered the record for the fastest delivery by an Indian this season.

Avesh, who was part of the reserves during India's tour of England, earlier this year, has impressed the team management. He was reportedly close to getting into the squad before an injury hampered his chances in England. As per PTI, many believe he was close to making it to the playing XI had he not gotten injured.

"Avesh bowls at an average speed of 142 to 145 clicks, earns disconcerting bounce from the flattest of decks and has been on support staff's radar for some time," the source told PTI.

Venkatesh Iyer as cover, Hardik Pandya to play as pure batter

Another youngster who is all set to get rewarded for his performances in IPL 2021 so far is KKR all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer. Iyer has played just eight matches in IPL so far but has done enough to convince the selectors of his skills and abilities. The batting all-rounder has so far scored 265 runs and picked up three wickets.

He has been asked to stay back as a cover and will stay with the rest of the Indian squad in the bubble ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup. The report also stated that star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is likely to remain in the squad as a pure batter as there are still doubts over his bowling. Pandya didn't bowl a single over for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021.

"Avesh bowls at an average speed of 142 to 145 clicks, earns disconcerting bounce from the flattest of decks and has been on support staff's radar for some time," the source told PTI. Venkatesh Iyer as cover, Hardik Pandya to play as pure batter Another youngster who is all set to get rewarded for his performances in IPL 2021 so far is KKR all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer. As we head towards the business end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, the countdown for ICC T20 World Cup 2021 has also begun. The T20 World Cup was originally scheduled to be played in India last year but had to be postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The seventh edition of the showpiece event is all set to get underway from October 17 in UAE and Oman.

The T20 World Cup will mark its return after a gap of five years as the last edition of the tournament was played in 2016 with West Indies clinching the elusive title. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made some fresh changes in the playing conditions for the semi-final and the final of the T20 World Cup this year. The international body has introduced new Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) rules for the upcoming edition.

ICC released the playing conditions for T20 World Cup earlier this week and as per a report in ESPN Cricinfo, the international body has decided to increase the minimum number of overs for DLS usage in the semi-final and final of the T20 World Cup 2021.

As per the existing rules related to the DLS method, in case of a delay or a rain-affected game, each team needs to bat for a minimum of five overs for the result to be decided in a T20I game. However, in the semi-final and the final of the T20 World Cup 2021, each team will have to bat for a minimum of ten overs for the result to be calculated via the DLS method.

The change has been brought into effect, in line with the norm at the Women's T20 World Cup in Australia last year where England were eliminated after their semi-final against India was washed out due to rain and there was no reserve day.

Apart from the change in the DLS rules, ICC is also set to introduce Decision Review System (DRS) for the first time in the men's T20 World Cup. The Decision Review System was not in existence when the last edition of the T20 World Cup was played in 2016 which is the reason behind the delay in the introduction of the technology in the showpiece events.

Each team will be awarded two reviews per innings, as per the existing rules of the ICC. The T20 World Cup 2021 will get underway from October 17, just a couple of days after the conclusion of IPL 2021 in the UAE. ICC on Sunday (October 10) also announced USD 1.6 million prize money for the winner of the tournament.

Fresh DLS rules: ICC makes changes in playing conditions for T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final & final

The countdown for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 has begun with millions of fans across the globe waiting for arch-rivals India and Pakistan to lock horns in the showpiece event. India will take on Pakistan in their opening game of the tournament in Dubai on October 24.

The stakes are high whenever the two teams clash against each other and it will be no different this time around as well. The arch-rivals share one of the greatest rivalries in the history of cricket but have been meeting in only major ICC competitions since 2013 due to political tensions between the two nations.

Ahead of the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021, former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed shared his views on the match-up between the two teams. Javed believes India can beat Pakistan even if they play normal cricket as they have superstars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma among others in their ranks.

Javed, who played 22 Tests and 163 ODIs for his country, reckoned that Pakistan, on the other hand, will have to play better than their best cricket to come out on top of India in the blockbuster encounter.

“For India, they don’t need to peak. They can just play normally, to their strengths and still beat Pakistan. But if Pakistan are to win, they have to play better than their best cricket that day. So at the moment, they appear the favourites," former Pakistan pacer Javed Sana Ajmal on her YouTube channel.

"India have Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul so many match-winners. Jasprit Bumrah is such a terrific bowler. If you look at their overall team, they look favourites to win the World Cup,” he added.

However, the former Pakistan pacer believes Pakistan can get the result of the contest in their favour if they make some changes in their squad. Javed said he would want the team management to include opening batsman Fakhar Zaman in the playing XI, owing to his great record against India. He also backed the likes of Babar Azam, Mohammad Hafeez and Mohammad Rizwan to perform in the high-octane clash.

"Although India are favourites to beat Pakistan, things can turn out slightly different on that day. If Pakistan are to win, they need to make a few changes to their squad. For example, Fakhar Zaman should definitely be brought in because some players always perform well against certain teams," said Javed.

"For Pakistan, the T20 World Cup is one thing and playing India is another altogether. Fakhar played an aggressive innings at the Champions Trophy. If he is included and he fires, Babar Rizwan scores some runs, Babar gets going, or even someone like Hafeez makes a mark, these four batsmen can score against quality bowling in pressure situations," he added.

India have never lost against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup and will look to maintain their perfect streak when they take on Babar Azam & Co. in their T20 World Cup opener in Dubai on October 24.

Yuzvendra Chahal's exclusion from India's T20 World Cup squad came as a shock to many. Chahal has been a regular for team India in the limited-overs format over the past few years but was shockingly left out of the main 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Chetan Sharma-ked selection panel snubbed Chahal to pick Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy in the squad.

Senior spinner R Ashwin also made his comeback to India's T20 squad after a long wait of four years. Ashwin, who has been a regular in Test cricket for Virat Kohli & Co., last played a white-ball game for India in 2017. Chahal's exclusion is once again grabbing the headlines after the leg-spinner's impressive performances in the ongoing second leg of IPL 2021 in UAE.

Chahal has been one of the best bowlers in the second leg of the tournament and has picked up 14 wickets in 12 matches so far this season. While there have been calls for his inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad, former India selector Saba Karim believes it's too late for the spinner to make his comeback.

"I think it’s too late now. People have been talking about making changes in the squad, but that can only happen if someone gets injured. You also have to see Rahul Chahar was performing very well when he got selected. We saw both of them (Chahal and Chahar) in Sri Lanka, and his performances there were definitely noteworthy, which is why he was picked by selectors, " Karim, a former India cricketer, said on Youtube channel Khelneeti.

"Now, in the second half of the IPL, Chahal has shown great improvement in his performances, which is very good. But he will have to wait a little. The players who have been selected, their form and performances will be seen before Chahal is given a chance again," he added.

'It's too late now': Former selector on chances of Yuzvendra Chahal's inclusion in India's T20 World Cup squad

Former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq is not new to controversies. The ex-all-rounder is known for his absurd comments about the Indian cricket team and has often faced the heat for the same. Razzaq has made yet another controversial claim, stating that Team India do not play bilateral cricket against Pakistan because they can't compete against them.

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2013 due to political tensions between the two nations. India share one of the greatest rivalries in the history of cricket but have been meeting only in major ICC competitions for over eight years now.

However, Razzaq claimed India are the inferior team between the two and thus do not want to play against Pakistan. His absurd remarks came during a show on Pakistan news channel ARY News when the host asked him to compare the kind of talent Pakistan have in their cricket team to that of India.

"Do India have the kind of pace bowlers or all-rounders like Pakistan or you feel there is no match?" - the host asked Razzaq. The former Pakistan all-rounder responded by claiming that India do not have the kind of talent Pakistan possess in their ranks.

"I don't think India can compete with Pakistan. The kind of talent Pakistan has is entirely different and this I don't think is a good thing for cricket that India and Pakistan are not having matches. It used to be an exciting prospect and give players the opportunity to show how much pressure they could handle. So that has gone missing. I feel that had it continued, people would have found out that the kind of talent Pakistan has, India does not," Razzaq said on ARY News.

Razzaq also went on to compare some of the greats of the Indian cricket team with former Pakistan cricketers while trying to prove that his country has produced better talent over the years. The former Pakistan all-rounder claimed Pakistan have had better players potential wise when compared to India.

"India too has a good team, I'm not saying anything otherwise. Even they have good players. But if you look at it potential wise, we had Imran Khan, they had Kapil Dev. If you are to compare, then Imran Khan was a lot better. Then we had Wasim Akram, they did not have a player of that calibre," said Razzaq.

If you look at it overall, Pakistan have always produced good players. All these are big reasons. This is why India don't want to play against us," he added.

India have never lost against Pakistan in both ODI and T20 World Cups and have maintained a perfect record against the arch-rivals so far. India will look to extend their unbeaten run against Pakistan when the two teams meet in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 on October 24 in UAE.

Stadiums in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will operate at 70% of capacity for the Twenty20 World Cup, the organisers said, though conditions in Oman, where preliminary rounds are due to be played, have still to be fully assessed following a cyclone.

Tropical Cyclone Shaheen struck coastal areas of Oman, including the capital of Muscat on Sunday, two weeks before preliminary round matches of the tournament commence on Oct. 17.

Some 3,000 fans would be accommodated at Al Amerat stadium in Muscat, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement on Sunday, though the cyclone left streets in the Omani capital under water, prompted evacuations from coastal areas and delayed flights in and out of the country.

The 16-team tournament was shifted to the Gulf states as result of a surge of COVID-19 infections in India, but the Indian cricket board (BCCI) remains the event host.

The ICC said the BCCI and itself had worked closely with host authorities to ensure fans are welcomed in a safe environment and COVID-19 protocols are applied at all venues.

"The T20 World Cup is the largest sporting event to be held in the region and it will be the biggest global cricket event since the pandemic with fans in stadia," the ICC said.

"In the UAE all venues will be operating at approximately 70% of maximum seated capacity, whilst Abu Dhabi has also introduced new socially distanced `pods` of a maximum of 4 spectators on their east and west grass mounds," it said.

Dubai, which hosts matches including the Nov. 14 final, and Sharjah are the two other venues in the UAE.
The UAE is currently hosting the Indian Premier League (IPL) with fans at a reduced capacity.

Legendary Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis has made a bold prediction ahead of the much-awaited blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. The arch-rivals will lock horns in their campaign opener at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on October 24. Ahead of the clash, Younis has touted Pakistan to beat India if Babar Azam & Co. play to their potential in the opening encounter.

Arch-rivals Indian and Pakistan, which have not played a bilateral series since 2013, meet only in major ICC events. Thus, any encounter between the two sides becomes an intriguing affair with millions across the world glued to their television screens to watch the two teams in action against each other. India and Pakistan have been drawn in Group 2 at T20 World Cup 2021 which also features New Zealand and Afghanistan.

"I honestly believe that Pakistan can beat India in their opening encounter if they play to their potential. It won’t be easy but we certainly have the personnel who can come good," Younis told CricWick when asked about Pakistan's chances against India at the T20 World Cup this year.

A clash between India and Pakistan also brings in a lot of pressure for the players from both sides with expectations at an all-time high. Younis believes it will be crucial for both teams to nullify the pressure well and get the better of their opposition.

"It's a big game and pressure will be on both teams as it will be their first match of the tournament. But the first few deliveries and runs will be crucial but if we are able to negotiate it well we can win the game," the former Pakistan pacer added.

India are unbeaten against Pakistan so far in both T20 and ODI World Cups. India have met Pakistan five times in the T20 World Cup and have won in all five meetings. The last meeting between the two sides came at the ODI World Cup in 2019 where India hammered Pakistan by 89 runs via the DLS method.

India's 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup was finally announced on Wednesday (September 8). The Men in Blue, under the leadership of Virat Kohli, will kick off the campaign by taking on arch-rivals Pakistan. There were several surprise additions and exclusions in the 15-man squad.

Ravi Ashwin's return to the T20 side and MS Dhoni being named the mentor were two huge talking points of the announcement. However, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir talked about another big name that could leave a huge impact on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir feels that Suryakumar Yadav will prove to be a useful option at the No.4 batting option.

"Surya is a completely different class, as compared to Shreyas Iyer, he is much more versatile, he is much more unorthodox as well. In T20 cricket, you need people that are unorthodox; you want people who can hit that ball in different areas, and that is what T20 cricket is all about," Gambhir said on the Star Sports Show 'Follow The Blues – India's T20 World Cup Squad Special.

"He can lap you, he can late cut you, he can hit you over extra cover; he’s got all the shots, especially at No.4, because sometimes No.4 is the most tricky position to bat in T20 cricket, probably the easiest is the top three, but No.4, because you might be in when you have lost two early wickets and you still want to continue the momentum."

"Sometimes you come into the middle, when you have got what... 130 for 2, and you have got to continue with the momentum. So, Surya's got both kinds of change, which probably Shreyas Iyer doesn't have. And again, you have to be mindful that he is coming after a serious injury and you never know what kind of a form he would be in the second leg of IPL as well. So, they've gone with someone, who has done really well, since he has gone into international cricket," the former India opener added.

The Indian Premier League was earlier suspended on May 4 after the country was hit by the second wave of the virus as some players tested positive.

The ICC is set to decide on the host country for the October-November event later this month even as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) reportedly asked the cricket's governing body for more time to make a decision.

Reports say the ICC is likely to keep Oman's Muscat as the back-up venue for the preliminary round games of the T20 World Cup.

The governing body further said that the ICC men’s cricket World Cup will become a 14-team, 54 match event in 2027 and 2031 with the T20 men's World Cup to be expanded to 20 teams in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030

BCCI selects 9 venues for ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in India: Reports

The venues of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 could end up hosting the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to be played in India in October-November.

With cities of Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata gearing up to host the much-anticipated IPL 2021, a report in 'The New Indian Express’ has said that the six venues are likely to host ICC's marquee event later in the year.

The report adds that the BCCI wanted eight venues for T20 World Cup but with COVID-19 complications still in the country, the Indian board is likely to limit the venues to six.

Generally, venues are revealed around six months ahead of an ICC event but given the COVID-19 pandemic, the venues for the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup are likely to be announced late.

Both IPL and T20 World Cup are multi-team tournaments and offer logistical challenges for organisers. While IPL is an eight-team tournament, T20 World Cup will have as many as 16 teams.

Initially, the BCCI had the likes of Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mohali and Dharamsala.

“Moving from one city to the other for one match will come with a huge risk. If the venue count is down, it will help us in delivering a smooth tournament. If need be, a similar schedule like IPL where matches are restricted to not more than two cities at a given point of time will be considered. We have to be as flexible as possible,” a BCCI official told the daily.
