Hardik Pandya-led India locked horns with Ireland in the second and final T20I on Tuesday evening (June 28), at The Village, Dublin. With an unassailable lead, India aimed for a whitewash and opted to bat first. On a batting-friendly track, Deepak Hooda's 104 and Sanju Samson's 42-ball 77 propelled India to a mammoth 225/7 before the visitors defended the total by four runs to win the series 2-0, despite Andrew Balbirnie & Co.'s spirited fight.

During the Indian innings, Samson and Hooda got together at 13/1 and their 176-run second-wicket stand, highest partnership for India for any wicket in the shortest format, made heads turn. Both batters entertained the crowd with their strokeplay as Hooda slammed his maiden ton whereas Samson scored his first-ever fifty for India. Thus, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra heaped praise on Samson while reviewing the second and final encounter and termed him in Rohit Sharma's category.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra said, "Sanju got an opportunity and he shone. When he bats, he plays very well. That's the thing with Sanju Samson - I have never seen him bat ugly. He is a player who belongs to Rohit Sharma's category, who whenever he plays, plays extremely beautifully, scores runs in a free-flowing manner and controls the match very well."

"Sanju's fans are there in Malahide as well because as soon as Hardik Pandya said at the toss that Sanju is playing, it erupted, it was an extremely beautiful moment for Sanju Samson as well, he got an opportunity to play as an opener," he added.

"He has also put his name in the list, another wicketkeeper-batter. I think it's going to be a huge huge headache. Well done Sanju, when you see Sanju you observe the talent but performance is more important than potential. Converting potential to performance is the tough art and he showed it by doing it," he concluded.

Samson remains in India's scheme of things ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia later this year. It will be tough for him to earn a spot, however, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper has made a mark courtesy of his splendid knock versus Ireland.

IND vs Ire: When and where to watch India vs Ireland 2nd T20I - IST time and streaming details

India will be aiming to clean sweep the two-match series 2-0 when they lock horns with Ireland in the second T20I at The Village in Dublin on Tuesday (June 28). India defeated the hosts comprehensively by seven wickets in the series-opener at the same venue on Sunday to take a 1-0 lead and will be hoping to make it two wins on the trot. Indian skipper Hardik Pandya would have liked to avoid any changes in the line-up but the visitors might make a forced change in the 2nd T20I.

Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad picked up a niggle while fielding during the first game and didn't come out to open the batting as Deepak Hooda replaced him at the top. Hooda went on to play a fantastic knock of unbeaten 47 to take India home in the 109-run chase with 2.4 overs to spare.

If Gaikwad fails to make the cut in the playing XI on Tuesday due to his injury, wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson might get a chance. Samson was not picked in the XI for the series-opener much to the surprise of many, who believe the wicket-keeper batter deserves a good run with the Indian team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022.

However, with intense competition for spots in the middle-order Samson has so far failed to nail down a spot in the team and has also been devoid of chances. If Gaikwad remains on the sidelines, Hooda might be asked to open again with Kishan while Samson will slot into the middle order with Pandya and Dinesh Karthik.

The first T20I was reduced to a 12-overs-per-side contest after rain hampered the proceedings but a full game is expected on Tuesday with the weather forecast being good for the duration of play. While there can be a change in the batting line-up, India might go with the same bowling attack in the 2nd T20I.

Umran Malik, who made his India debut in the series-opener, got a chance to bowl just one over and was taken off after conceding 14 off it. However, the team management might retain him in the XI to boost his confidence. Avesh Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are expected to keep their place while Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel will be the two spinners.

Will Sanju Samson replace Ruturaj Gaikwad? India's predicted playing XI for 2nd T20I against Ireland

Umran Malik made his dream debut for the Indian team in the first T20I against Ireland in Dublin on Sunday (June 27). It was a proud moment for the young pace sensation who became only the second cricketer after Parvez Rasool from his state Jammu & Kashmir to represent India in international cricket. Umran had earned his maiden India call-up in the T20I series against South Africa at home earlier this month after impressing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Umran, who was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of IPL 2022, went on to have a memorable season for the franchise with 22 wickets in 14 matches. He left many impressed with his raw pace and consistently clocked over 150 kmph with the ball to rattle the opposition batters.

Umran was expected to go full throttle against Ireland in the first T20I on Sunday after making his dream debut. However, he got to bowl only one over in his debut match for the Indian team and was taken off by captain Hardik Pandya after giving away 14 runs off the over. Umran bowled the 6th over during Ireland's innings in the rain-affected game.

He was taken to the cleaners by Harry Tector, who was the top scorer for Ireland with a quickfire 64 off 33 balls. Umran didn't get to bowl again in the 12-over-per-side match as India restricted Ireland to 108/4 in 12 overs. Following the conclusion of the game, skipper Hardik was asked about Umran and he explained why the young pacer bowled just one over in the game.

Hardik revealed he had a chat with Umran on the field and felt it was best for him to bowl with the old ball and not the new one. "Great to start a series with a win. For us, as a team, it's very important to start with a win. Quite happy with it. He's [Umran Malik] been fantastic for his franchise. But I felt, also had a chat with him, he'll be more comfortable with the older ball," said Hardik.

After restricting Ireland on 108 runs, India chased down the target with 2.4 overs to spare as Deepak Hooda starred with the willow. Opening the batting with Ishan Kishan, Hooda scored an unbeaten 47 off 29 balls and combined with his opening partner Kishan (26), and skipper Hardik (24) to take India home comfortably in the run-chase.

'Had a chat with him': Hardik Pandya explains why Umran Malik bowled only 1 over in 1st T20I vs Ireland

Ireland put up a spirted fight but India proved too strong for the home team to win the rain-hit opening T20I by seven wickets here on Sunday. Harry Tector's counter-attacking 64 not out off 33 balls took Ireland to 108 for four after the rain reduced the game to 12 overs a side.

India were always ahead of the run rate in the chase and with contributions from Ishan Kishan (26 off 11), Deepak Hooda (47 not out off 29) and skipper Hardik Pandya (24 off 12), cruised to victory in 9.2 overs.

Kishan continued his good form to get India off to a quick start. The first over of the innings went for 15 runs as Kishan collected couple of fours and a six off Joshua Little.

In a rather surprising move, Deepak Hooda came to open alongside Kishan in place of Ruturaj Gaikwad. He found his rhythm after a scratchy start and put up a match-winning 64-run stand with Hardik.

Just when it seemed Indian were running away with the contest, Craig Young got rid of Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav (0) in successive deliveries to raise hopes for his team.

Kishan's stumps were rattled in another attempt to get a full ball out of the park. Returning to the side after an injury break, Suryakumar got a beauty first up that seamed back to trap him in front of the stumps.

However, Hardik and Hooda kept going for their strokes and a 21-run over from Andy Mcbrine put India back in control. While Hardik departed after hitting three sixes, Hooda stayed till the end to hit the winning four. His innings comprised two sixes and half a dozen boundaries.

Earlier, India opted to bowl in overcast conditions but soon after the rain arrived, delaying the start of play by more than two hours and 20 minutes. The conditions were ripe for Bhuvneshwar Kumar to make the ball talk and he did just that in the opening over of the match.

The wily operator got the ball to swing both ways before an inswinger breached the defence of Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie. Skipper Hardik Pandya got himself into the attack in the second over and took two balls to dismiss the dangerous Paul Stirling.

After hitting the first ball over cover, Stirling went for the same shot but mistimed to be caught at mid off. Avesh Khan then had Gareth Delany caught behind in his first over to leave Ireland at 22 for three.

India were expected to run through the opposition but Ireland staged a spirited recovery through Tector, who went for the offensive against the Indian pacers, including debutant Umran Malik. All eyes were on the Indian pace sensation but he had a rather nervous start to his international career.

He dragged his third ball down the leg side and it raced to the boundary off Lorcan Tucker's (18 off 16) pads. Two balls later, Tector played a beautiful straight drive off a full delivery. Malik dragged the next one short but Hector was ready to pull it for a six.

Tucker smashed two successive sixes off Hardik to give further impetus to the innings. The last over of the innings yielded 17 runs and pushed the total past 100 with Tector collecting a boundary from a reverse hit off Avesh before smashing a full toss for six over deep cover.

Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya guide India to 7-wicket win over Ireland in rain-affected 1st T20I

Not many had kept Gujarat Titans, one of the two debutant franchises, in their top 4 prior to the commencement of IPL 2022. Along with Gujarat, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) also debuted in IPL's 15th and were led by KL Rahul. Gujarat named local boy Hardik Pandya, not retained by Mumbai Indians (MI), as their captain. The 28-year-old was not only making his comeback at a competitive level post the 2021 T20 World Cup, but the star all-rounder also had a lot to prove.

Hardik entered IPL 15, battling (back) injury concerns. All eyes were on him as the Indian cricket loyalists were glued to the television sets to find out if Hardik the all-rounder will make a return. To many's delights, Hardik did roll his arms in the initial few weeks only to take caution as the tournament progressed ahead. Eventually, he ended with his best tally with the bat, 487 runs, and eight scalps (out of which three came in the finale). Thus, Hardik surely arrived and announced his comeback as an all-rounder. Nonetheless, what came out of the syllabus was Hardik the captain.

CAPTAIN HARDIK

Hardik led from the front. He took the responsibility to come up the order and take the crucial No. 4 spot. He played the perfect anchor, bridging the gap between the top and lower-middle order. The young all-rounder picked his bowlers wisely and was content in taking the game deeper by holding one end. Barring a few outbursts, with Md Shami and David Miller, Hardik was at ease even during crucial moments of several games. He spoke with utmost maturity at press conferences or pre and post-match presentations and dealt with things sporting a poker face.

Shubman Gill was given a long rope throughout, despite his numbers going down after the initial few games. Rahul Tewatia and Miller had proper role clarity. Shami was given charge of the pace battery whereas Rashid Khan took care of the spin department. Several unknown names, such as Sai Kishore, Sai Sudharsan, Sai Sudharsan, etc., got chances although the core group was never shuffled or unsettled.

Head coach Ashish Nehra-Hardik ensured a healthy and family-like atmosphere, which reflected on the 22-yard cricket strip as Gujarat kept on winning games from precarious situations. On debut, Gujarat rode on confident and instilled a Chennai Super Kings' (CSK)-like environment. Thus, Hardik's maturity was hailed by many.

On the field, he made swift changes when required. He didn't follow a set template in terms of using his bowlers. Hardik attacked and, at times, relentlessly attacked with his tactics. Above all, he carried himself in a calm and composed manner. Have we seen such a captaincy style before? Of course, we have. No prizes for guessing that Hardik has learned and been inspired from the best in business, i.e. MS Dhoni.

Growing as a player in Dhoni's shadow, before the keeper-batter's retirement, Hardik is surely making heads turn both as a cricketer and captain. He is a utility player and has immense self-belief. Hardik is also a faster learner and has started his captaincy stint with a lot of promise, conducting himself like a young Dhoni who was given captaincy from nowhere. However, he is not going overboard by trying too hard to be the next Captain Cool.

Saba Karim (on TOI's podcast) -"I think Hardik Pandya, although he spent a lot of time with MS Dhoni, spent a lot of time with Virat Kohli, he has his own brand of captaincy and the way he plays his cricket is so different from what Virat does or what MS Dhoni does. So you learn from so many great individuals who have been part of the side, but eventually, you bring your own leadership style onto the field and I think that's what he did."

Fasten your seat belts, by the time Rohit Sharma steps aside as Team India skipper, Hardik might pip others and become the next contender if he continues to follow his own ways and bring into use some of the tricks from Dhoni's bag.

Hardik Pandya rising up the ranks with learnings from MS Dhoni

Hardik Pandya-led India kicked off their two-match T20I series versus Ireland at The Village, Dublin on Sunday evening (June 26). In a rain-affected 12-over aside contest, Hardik & Co. defeated a spirited Ireland by seven wickets to take an unassailable lead in the process.

Vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar set the tone for Team India after the visitors opted to bowl first. Bhuvi removed Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie for nought, with some early movement, and took India off to a flier. While Harry Tector's 33-ball 64 propelled Ireland to 108/4, in a dozen overs, Bhuvi remained economical (going at 5.30) and ended with 3-1-16-1. In reply, Deepak Hooda's unbeaten 47 and Hardik's 12-ball 24 took India to a comfortable win with 16 balls to spare.

While reviewing the India-Ireland T20I series opener in a video shared on his YouTube channel, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra pointed out the recent success that Bhuvi has achieved is his second coming. For the unversed, he was the Player-of-the-Series in the India-South Africa T20Is at home. In the Ireland series opener, the 32-year-old pacer attained another feat, becoming the leading wicket-taker in powerplays in T20Is (34). Thus, he went past West Indies spinner Samuel Badree and New Zealand seamer Tim Southee (both with 33 scalps each).

"Let's talk about Bhuvi because he has found a second wind. If you had asked me six to eight months back, I would have said that Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been a very good bowler, but he is not in my T20 scheme of things because there was no pace in the deliveries."

"There was swing in the hand, but let's be honest, the swing that was always there had also reduced, the pace was slightly going down, and suddenly you are asking that an important component of the bowling is missing, without which it will not work because there are a lot of other bowlers," opined Chopra.

Chopra further added, "But this is his second wind. You will give him a lot of credit for how well he has bowled. You will also credit the team management for sticking with him continuously, I felt they would not stay with him after the World Cup. But he is continuously improving. The way the ball is swinging from his hand, it's been a revelation of sorts about how well you can get your rhythm back. The speed gun is still showing the same speed but the swing is back. That means Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back. I am really, really happy for him."

'He has found....': Former cricketer all praise for star India player after Ireland T20I series opener

Hardik Pandya-led India commenced their short tour of Ireland on Sunday evening (June 26). Taking on the Irish side, India had to wait to take on the field as rain delayed proceedings after Hardik & Co. won the toss and opted to bowl first, at The Village, Dublin.

After the late start, the match was reduced to 12 overs aside where India beat a spirited Andy Balbirnie-led Ireland line-up by seven wickets in pursuit of a tough 109-run target. With the win, Hardik not only made a fitting start on debut as Team India captain, but the 28-year-old all-rounder also achieved a unique feat during the contest.

Captain Hardik came onto bowl in the second over, following swing master and vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The captain made a mark in his first over itself, removing the danger man Paul Stirling for cheap (4). By getting the better of the Irish opener, who is the hosts' main batter, Hardik scripted history. Among the nine players who have captained India in the shortest format, Hardik became the first-ever to claim a T20I scalp. Before him, the likes of Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant have led Men in Blue in T20Is.

India vs Ireland: Hardik Pandya attains unique feat, becomes first Indian captain to claim a T20I scalp

Hardik Pandya will be leading Team India for the first time in his career when they take on Ireland in the first T20I of the two-match series at The Village in Dublin on Sunday (June 26). India's Test squad is currently playing a warm-up game against Leicestershire ahead of the rescheduled fifth Test against England while the Hardik-led second-string Indian T20I side will be in action against Ireland at the same time.

Though it is not a full-strength team, India still have the likes of Surykaumar Yadav, Hardik, Ishan Kishan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar among others at their disposal as the preparations for T20 World Cup 2022 continue. Hardik, who is coming off a brilliant IPL 2022 for Gujarat Titans followed by an impressive outing against South Africa at home, will be keen to get off to a winning start as captain.

Hardik led his team Gujarat Titans (GT) to their maiden IPL title in their debut season this year and was elevated to captaincy for the Ireland T20Is in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma and vice-captain KL Rahul. Despite missing a number of key players, India have fielded a strong squad for the two-match rubber.

Suryakumar will be making his comeback from injury after missing the home series against South Africa earlier this month while Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi are also part of the squad to bolster the batting line-up. Ishan Kishan and Ruturak Gaikwad are expected to open the batting and Deepak Hood might get a chance in the top four.

India also have a strong bowling line-up which will be spearheaded by the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The Men in Bue might hand young pace sensation Umran Malik his India debut in the series-opener or play pacer Arshdeep Singh, who has shown a lot of promise in the IPL over the last few seasons.

Dinesh Karthik is certain to continue in the lower-middle order as the designated finisher in the side while Yuzvendra Chahal will lead the spin pack with Axar Patel to support him. India will be hopeful of making a winning start to the series.

Suryakumar Yadav, Arshdeep Singh to feature? India's predicted playing XI for 1st T20I against Ireland

Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg has called star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya the most valuable T20 cricketer in the world at present. Speaking in a video on his YouTube channel where he picked the stand-out performers in international cricket in the past month, Hogg lauded Pandya for his ability to adapt and deliver under pressure for his teams.

Pandya made his comeback into the Indian team in the recently-concluded T20I series against South Africa after a phenomenal IPL 2022 campaign for his team Gujarat Titans (GT). While he led from the front with the bat for the Titans to finish as their highest run-getter in IPL 2022, Pandya also stepped up with the ball when his team required.

He continued his fine form in the T20I series against the Proteas and scored 117in 4 innings averaging over 58 and striking at an impressive 153.95. He played a brilliant cameo of 31-ball 46 in the 4th T20I against South Africa under pressure to help India win by 82 runs. Lauding Pandya, Hogg said not many can strike the ball from the word go in the death overs like the India all-rounder.

"Players who have really impressed me over the last month, that really love those pressure situations, are Daryl Mitchell from New Zealand, and Hardik Pandya from India," said Hogg in the video.

"He wants those tough moments when his team's back is against the wall, he wants to go out there and deliver, whether it's with bat or ball. He is adaptable: the other night he came into those final overs and was able to find the boundary from ball one. Not many people can do that. And he can go up and do a job at the top of the order if they lose early wickets as well," the former Aussie spinner added.

Pandya was instrumental in leading Gujarat Titans to their maiden IPL title in their debut season this year. Captaining a side for the first time in his IPL career, Pandya batted at number four for his team and led by example. He also produced a Man-of-the-Match performance in the final against the Rajasthan Royals with a 3-wicket haul and 34 runs in the game.

'Hardik Pandya is the most valuable T20 cricketer in the world': Former Australia cricketer lauds all-rounder

Team India is busy finalising their combination for the 2022 T20 World Cup, set to be held in Australia later this year. Before the marquee tournament, India still have to play plenty of series as they can tinker with their team combination in order to finalise their ideal XI.

A second-stringed Rishabh Pant-led Indian team recently played South Africa in a five-match T20I series at home, which ended in a 2-2 stalemate with the final match being abandoned due to persistent rain in Bengaluru on June 19. Despite a disappointing end to the series, India had plenty of positives with the form and performances of Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

After the series, Little Master Sunil Gavaskar mentioned a star player who could be one of Rohit Sharma's trump cards in the forthcoming T20 World Cup Down Under. Gavaskar hailed Harshal Patel as the fast-bowling all-rounder who impressed bowling in tough situations in the SA series and returned with seven wickets in four innings at 12.57 and an economy rate of 7.23. He was, thus, the highest wicket-taker in the series.

Thus, Gavaskar told Star Sports, “He will be one of the trumps cards because you have Bhuvneshwar, Shami and Bumrah as well. Brilliant for a skipper to have someone like him to depend on, He can come in and bowl may be even in the powerplay where people are now going with change of pace. So yes he certainly should be part of the group."

Former SA captain Graeme Smith, who was also part of the same panel, agreed with Gavaskar and added, “He has been excellent. Nobody skills in the death overs with the slower balls...but I feel from game 3 he found his right length and picked up wickets and kept the pressure on the South Africans. He has all the skills as an all-rounder bowler and is a big asset to the team and handles pressure very well and is a clear thinker under pressure."

Harshal will next be seen in action in India's two-match T20I series versus Ireland, in Dublin, on June 26 and 28.

India and South Africa's five-match T20I series ended in a stalemate, 2-2, after the fifth and final encounter was abandoned due to persistent rain in Bengaluru. Despite the series not determining a winner between both sides, there were a lot of positives for the hosts India, who were without many of their white-ball regulars.

The Rishabh Pant-led Indian team saw top performances from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who returned with the Player-of-the-Match, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Dinesh Karthik, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal. After the series, former SA captain Graeme Smith named two players who are now integral to India's T20I squad and named the X-factor for Rohit Sharma & Co. heading into the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Speaking to cricket.com, batting icon Smith opined that Pandya and Karthik have become somewhat indispensable. In this regard, he opined, "Still a lot of cricket to be played so it is difficult to predict what is going to happen in the next couple of months but you are going to think Hardik and DK are integral to that squad. DK is experienced with that finishing role that he has played Hardik has grown leaps and bounds and is in control of his game."

Graeme Smith names star player as Rohit Sharma-led India's 'X-factor' for 2022 T20 World Cup

Hardik Pandya remains the talk of the town. He made a sensational comeback in competitive cricket, after the 2021 T20 World Cup, after having missed a plethora of series for Team India due to his fitness issues. In his break, he worked on his fitness and has returned in style, not only fulfilling the role of an all-rounder, but the 28-year-old has also shown his flair as a leader.

During IPL 2022, Hardik led the debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) and took them to their maiden championship. His leadership style was hailed by many -- being calm and composed, positive, leading by the front and backing his core players -- as he also had a good run in the recently-concluded India-South Africa T20Is at home. India are now set to play Ireland in two T20Is, where Hardik will lead a second-stringed side. Ahead of his captaincy debut for India, former Indian stumper and selector Saba Karim lauded the all-rounder and stated that the youngster is still a different leader than MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, despite being groomed by them since his debut.

Speaking on TOI's podcast 'Sportscast', Karim said, "I think Hardik Pandya, although he spent a lot of time with MS Dhoni, spent a lot of time with Virat Kohli, he has his own brand of captaincy and the way he plays his cricket is so different from what Virat does or what MS Dhoni does. So you learn from so many great individuals who have been part of the side, but eventually, you bring your own leadership style onto the field and I think that's what he did."

Karim was part of the selection committee when Hardik made his debut for India, in early 2016 during a white-ball tour of Australia. Recalling the time, Karim opined that Hardik has impressed with his maturity, change in lifestyle, etc. to bring desired results as a cricketer.

"If I remember correctly, he made his debut in 2015-16 (January 2016 in a T20I vs Australia in Adelaide), when I was part of the selection committee and since then he has grown not only as a person but also as a cricketer and it seemed like it had come to a stage where he really had to reinvent his lifestyle to become a more mature cricketer and that's what was seen in this season's IPL. And that is remarkable - it's not easy for athletes to do that at that level," he further added.

He played a crucial knock of 46 runs off 31 balls to combine with Dinesh Karthik (55) and post a brilliant stand of 65 runs for the fifth wicket in the 4th T20I against South Africa on Friday (June 17). India won the game comfortably by 82 runs after easily defending a total of 169 runs to level the series 2-2.

Post the team's win, Hardik and Karthik sat down for a chat about their respective knocks and the game. Karthik also asked Hardik about the difference in his role for the Indian team and the Gujarat Titans in the IPL. The star all-rounder responded by stating that he always likes to play as per the situation and revealed a piece of golden advice from MS Dhoni on handling pressure during his early days in international cricket.

“For me genuinely nothing changes because I play the situation, I play the symbol which is there on my chest. The only thing which I want to get better with time, it's about how…smoothness and how frequently I can do the same thing which I did for Gujarat Titans and for India as well," Hardik told Karthik during their chat.

“Earlier in the days, Mahi bhai taught me one thing. I asked him a very simple thing like ‘how do you get away from pressure and everything?' And he gave me a very simple advice. It was a brilliant all-round performance from India in the penultimate encounter in Rajkot on Friday to level the series 2-2. While Karthik and Pandya starred with the bat to help the hosts post 169 runs on the board, fast bowler Avesh Khan bowled a stunning spell to help India defend the total.

Avesh bowled an excellent spell to run through the Proteas batting line-up with a four-wicket haul. He ended up picking up the wickets of the likes of Dwaine Pretorious, Rassie van der Dussen, Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj to make the contest a one-sided affair. WATCH: Hardik Pandya reveals MS Dhoni's advice on handling pressure that helped him improve as a player

India kept the five-match T20I series alive with a convincing 48-run win over visitors Temba Bavuma-led South Africa in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday (June 14). On Friday evening (June 17), both sides will square off against each other once again in the fourth and penultimate match of the series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association, Rajkot.

Talking about the third match, Rishabh Pant-led India once again lost the coin toss and were asked to bat first. Riding on half-centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ishan Kishan, India were on course for a total beyond the 200-run mark before South African bowlers bounced back. Hardik Pandya's unbeaten 31 propelled India to 179-5. In reply, Yuzvendra Chahal's 3 for 20 and Harshal Patel's four-fer dismissed SA for 131 all-out.

Will rain play spoilsport in the fourth and penultimate tie?

Ahead of the fourth T20I, there are chances that rain might play spoilsport in Rajkot. The chances of rain are just 5 percent during the day, it can increase to 25 percent during the night. In addition, there are six percent chances of thunderstorms in the city during the night. The match is expected to go on but there can be some delays.

Match prediction for the fourth T20I: The venue has seen big as well as moderate totals being chased or defended. Hence, there is something for both batters and bowlers. Expect a high-scoring affair with India likely to remain unchanged whereas SA can include Quinton de Kock, if fit, for Reeze Hendricks.

Expect a high-scoring affair with India likely to remain unchanged whereas SA can include Quinton de Kock, if fit, for Reeze Hendricks.

IND vs SA prediction: Who'll win 4th T20I between India and South Africa in Rajkot?

On Wednesday (June 15), Hardik Pandya was named as India's captain for their upcoming two-match T20I series versus Ireland, in Dublin. Thus, Hardik will get a chance to lead India for the first time as he has been rightly rewarded for his maiden stint as an IPL skipper in the 15th season, where he led debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to the championship.

Thus, Hardik joins the likes of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah who are among the younger lot being considered for India captain after Rohit Sharma's stint is over. Ahead of Hardik's captaincy stint for India, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has picked him as the next white-ball captain after Rohit. In addition, Jaffer wants Hardik to be India's first choice vice-captain in the shorter formats, instead of KL Rahul.

“He deserves it. Going forward, Indian selectors should look at him seriously for leading in white ball cricket. Especially if Rohit Sharma is not available, Hardik Pandya should be the first choice in my opinion. The way he led in the IPL, the way his performances came through, he is somebody who relishes that job. Going forward he is probably my number one choice after Rohit Sharma,” said Jaffer on ESPNCricinfo.

“If Rohit is playing, I would like Hardik to be the vice-captain in white ball cricket. He is somebody who enjoys their job and gets the best out of himself and others. Everybody feels at home and he gets the best out of the other players. So he is my next in line after Rohit Sharma,” added Jaffer.

While Hardik has been named as the captain for the Ireland tour, pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will serve as his deputy whereas many young and uncapped IPL stars such as Umran Malik, Rahul Tripathi, Arshdeep Singh are also part of the 17-member squad. Dinesh Karthik has retained his spot whereas Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson make a comeback.

'He's my next captain in-line after Rohit Sharma in white-ball formats': Wasim Jaffer on star India player

On Wednesday evening (June 15), the BCCI selection committee announced a 17-member Team India squad for the forthcoming two T20Is versus Ireland, in Dublin. With regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and many other white-ball regulars to be in England to prepare for the one-off Test, Hardik Pandya has been named as the Indian captain for the Ireland series.

Hardik will, thus, get a chance to lead India for the first time ever. In IPL 2022, the talented all-rounder had led the debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to their maiden championship and led with example with both bat and ball, ending with 487 runs and eight wickets (three of them coming in the final). Thus, a lot is expected from Hardik the captain, who will have Bhuvneshwar Kumar as his deputy for the Ireland tour.

After his appointment, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra reacted to the new development and lauded Hardik. "Rise and rise of Hardik Pandya. Even though he’s captained only one seasonI feel that he’s the most mature captain amongst the younger lot of contenders. Here’s wishing him all the very best for the first assignment for Team India," Chopra said exclusively on the Koo app.

While Hardik hasn't led India when compared to some other youngsters such as KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, he has operated in a much better wat than them during IPL 15. Hence, a lot is expected of him.

India vs Ireland T20Is: 'He's most matured captain from younger lot' - Aakash Chopra on Hardik Pandya

On Wednesday evening (June 15), the BCCI selection committee announced a 17-member Team India squad for the forthcoming two-match T20I series versus hosts Ireland. Ahead of India's rescheduled fifth and final Test versus Ben Stokes-led England, in early July at Edgbaston, the Men in Blue are also scheduled to play Ireland for two T20Is.

Thus, for the short series, BCCI appointed Hardik Pandya as the captain with Bhuvneshwar Kumar serving as his deputy. The likes of regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, vice-captain KL Rahul (if fit), Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, etc. will be preparing for the one-off red-ball match versus hosts England when Hardik & Co. will play the Irish side in their own backyard, on June 26 and 28.

While the T20I squad comprises some experienced campaigners and has a host of young stars from the IPL, Gujarat Titans' (GT) all-rounder Rahul Tewatia was overlooked. Hence, the swashbuckling left-hander reacted to the Team India snub via a tweet from his official account:

For the unversed, Tewatia had a decent IPL 2022, where he amassed 217 runs at a strike rate of 147.61. With India's T20I line-up comprising several all-rounders such as captain Hardik, Bhuvi (who can bat a bit), Axar Patel, Venky Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Harshal Patel, Tewatia missed the bus. As he didn't bowl a single over in the 15th season of the IPL, it might have gone against his selection.

The 29-year-old still has reasons to be disappointed as he fared well as a finisher in IPL 15, better than Venky Iyer (with only 182 runs in 12 games, striking below 110), and this also can be termed as a huge opportunity missed with many white-ball regulars not part of the squad.

Rishabh Pant-led India beat South Africa by 48 runs in the third T20I to keep the five-match series alive after losing the opening two games. On Tuesday evening (June 14), Pant-led India was asked to bat first and rode on half-centuries from openers Ruturaj Gaikwad-Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya's 31 not out to post 179-5 in 20 overs in Visakhapatnam.

In reply, Indian bowlers combined to apply the brakes on Temba Bavuma-led South Africa's run-scoring as the visitors were dismissed for 131 in 19.1 overs in their full quota of overs, to lose by a convincing margin. Yuzvendra Chahal's 3 for 20 and Harshal Patel's four-fer derailed SA's progress with the bat. Talking about Chahal, the Player-of-the-Match from the third T20I was under pressure after he returned with a solitary wicket in the first two games, where he conceded a total of 75 runs in 6.1 overs.

Thus, Chahal revealed the reason for his success as the wily wrist-spinner stated that he varied his lengths after bowling either too full or too short in the earlier games. In addition, the 31-year-old resorted to his main strength, i.e. bowling the classic leg-spin.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Chahal said, "I was bowling too many quick ones and quick sliders in the last game. I spoke to Paras sir and coaches about it. So I tried to bowl quick leg breaks, but with a different seam position today. I want to turn and dip the ball, I couldn't do it the last time so they were able to hit through the line."

Batsmen try a lot of sweeps and reverse sweeps these days so we have to be prepared for that too, as bowlers. In the last game too there was some help for spinners but I didn't bowl that well. The ground is big, thankfully in Rajkot,” Chahal said with a chuckle.

Rishabh Pant-led India will square off with Temba Bavuma's South Africa in the third T20I of the five-match series on Tuesday evening (June 14) at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.

After two defeats on the trot, the Indian team is on the back foot. They are yet to beat the Proteas in any format in the ongoing calendar year and have lost seven back-to-back games versus the African team (after their Centurion Test win in late 2020). Thus, the pressure will be on a young and inexperienced Pant-led side, who have not clicked as a unit in the series so far.

In both the games played so far, Pant & Co. have failed to get wickets in the middle overs whereas the rotation of bowlers could've been better. Moreover, Indian batters struggled to read the pace of the wicket in the Cuttack T20I, falling 12-15 runs short of a challenging score. Talking about the Proteas, they have a well-balanced side at their disposal and are much more confident in all departments. Thus, they will like to close the series with an unassailable lead in the third T20I.

Match prediction for the third T20I between India and SA: Expect another two-paced wicket on offer for the decisive match. Pant & Co. would hope to win the coin toss else they have some inexperience in their line-up, contrary to SA's strong bowling line-up, and can falter again. IND vs SA prediction: Who will win 3rd T20I between India and South Africa in Visakhapatnam

India and South Africa played the second T20I, of the five-match series, on Sunday evening (June 12) at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. The venue hosted an international game after a long gap of 2.5 years as it was a jam-packed stadium that saw the Men in Blue go down to the Proteas by four wickets in a moderate-scoring affair.

However, a controversy erupted following the conclusion of the match. It has been brought to notice that the ticket sale scandal broke out for the Cuttack T20I. According to a report by the New Indian Express, the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) had allotted as many as 29,154 seats -- out of the 44,234 -- in the stadium for the second T20I. Out of 29,154, around 8,000 seats were kept for affiliated units/office bearers/BCCI affiliated units. On the other hand, the remaining ones were to be divided between online and offline channel sales for the cricket fans.

Approximately, around 12,093 tickets were available to be purchased on spot via nine designated counters whereas the leftover 9,061 were for solely fans, who could buy the tickets online. The offline tickets were sold out on the opening day itself. Thus, many black marketers broke in and bought tickets at large via online portals as well as off the counters (resorting to brokers and people from the labour class).

After the bulk purchase, the black marketers then sold the passes through websites and social media platforms -- using WhatsApp and other mediums, at much higher rates. For the unversed, according to the rules, one single person could've only bought two tickets. However, many ended up getting over 10 tickets from the site. Moreover, the black marketers also got hold of complimentary passes.

The price of tickets for the second T20I match between India and the Proteas was Rs 900 each for galleries 1, 3 and 5. The cost for gallery 2 was Rs 700 whereas it was ten times the cost for gallery 4 (Rs 7000). Nonetheless, the black marketers had a field day as they sold gallery No.2 tickets for Rs 5000 (for more than Rs 4,000), gallery No. 3 tickets for over Rs 5000 and gallery No.4 tickets went for Rs 15000 (more than double the original price), as per sources.

India vs SA: Black marketers have field day as ticket sale scandal occurs in Cuttack T20I - Reports

South Africa pulled off a stunning run-chase of 212 runs to beat India by seven wickets in the first T20I of the five-match series at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday (June 09). It was a brilliant batting performance from the Proteas, who rode on David Miller's unbeaten 64 off 31 balls and Rassie van der Dussen's 75 not out off 46 balls to chase down 212 runs with 5 balls to spare and give the visitors a 1-0 lead in the series.

Despite the absence of the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul, India named a strong playing XI under captain Rishabh Pant for the series opener. Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad got the team off to a brilliant start with a 57-run stand for the first wicket before the likes of Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya all made crucial contributions to propel India to 211 runs.

While it was a great batting effort from the Indian team with Kishan playing a standout knock of 48-ball 76, Hardik's actions in the final over of the innings left many baffled on social media. Hardik, who was batting with Dinesh Karthik in the 20th over, surprisingly denied the wicket-keeper batter a single on the penultimate ball of the final over.

Facing Anrich Nortje in the 20th over, Hardik guided a full-length delivery from Nortje towards deep mid-wicket on the 5th ball. A single was easily available but Hardik decided against taking it leaving Karthik seemingly dejected on the other end. The incident soon became a major talking point on social media with fans bashing Hardik for the decision.

Both Karthik and Hardik made their return to the Indian team after impressing in the recently-concluded IPL 2022. While Hardik was the highest run-getter for his side Gujarat Titans, Karthik took the season by a storm with his finishing exploits for RCB. Both the batters will be battling for the finisher's role in the Indian side in the lead up to the T20 World Cup next year.

Rishabh Pant-led India faced South Africa in the five-match T20I series opener in New Delhi, India on Thursday evening (June 09). In the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma, vice-captain KL Rahul, former skipper Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and some other key players, Pant & Co. couldn't help India achieve a world record of most successive T20I wins (13) courtesy of David Miller and Rassie van der Dussen's fifties in a run-fest in New Delhi, India.

Being asked to bat first, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, openers Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad took their chances and were lucky enough initially -- being rewarded for their positive intent -- as they put on a 57-run opening stand.

Against the run of play, Ruturaj fell but Ishan continued and hammered the bowlers whereas No. 3 batter Shreyas Iyer took on Tabraiz Shamsi. While Ishan fell for a 48-ball 76, and Iyer followed suit, Pant and Hardik Pandya's cameos (12-ball 31*) took India to 211-4, the highest T20I score at the venue.

In reply, South Africa started with some good strokes before skipper Temba Bavuma fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Quinton de Kock got a start whereas pinch-hitter Dwaine Pretorius went hard from his end as SA remained in the hunt.

Harshal Patel's change of pace completely outfoxed Pretorius (13-ball 29) as the onus quickly fell on in-form finisher David Miller. He was assisted by Rassie van der Dussen (75 not out), who wasn't at his best, but stood firm with Miller to keep Proteas alive.

Miller (unbeaten 64) got more than he could have asked for from Rassie, who was struggling in the middle, as the latter came to his own and smashed Harshal Patel in the 17th over, accumulating 22 runs (all in boundaries). From thereon, there was no looking back for the Proteas who rode on Miller-Rassie's unbroken 131-run fourth-wicket stand. The Harshal over sealed the deal for the visitors and they also prevented India from achieving a world record with the most successive T20I victories. In addition, Bavuma & Co. recorded their highest successful run-chase ever.

Thus, the trio of Afghanistan, Romania and India enjoyed a 12-match winning streak, however, the latter couldn't create history on Thursday evening.

1st T20I: David Miller, Rassie van der Dussen prevent India from achieving world record, SA win by 7 wickets

Hardik Pandya denying a single to Dinesh Karthik on the penultimate ball of the final over of India's innings in the first T20I against South Africa became one of the major talking points of the game India lost the game by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitely Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday despite posting a strong total of 212 runs on the board as the visitors took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

The incident happened in the 20th over of India's innings when Hardik was out in the middle with Karthik. On the 5th delivery from South African pacer Anrich Nortje, Hardik played a shot towards deep mid-wicket and had a chance to run an easy single. However, he decided to keep the strike and not take the run despite a proper batter in Karthik on the other end.

The incident soon became a talking point on social media with many criticising Hardik for his actions. Former India pacer Ashish Nehra was asked for his views on the incident post the match. Nehra is the head coach of Hardik's IPL side Gujarat Titans, who won the IPL 2022 title in their debut season this year.

Nehra came with a funny response and said it was Karthik on the non-striker's end and not him so he won't be able to answer why Hardik didn't opt for the single. "He should have taken a single in that final over. Dinesh Karthik was at the other end, it wasn't me," said Nehra during a discussion on Cricbuzz.

'Karthik was at the other end, not me': Ashish Nehra jokes about Hardik denying single in 1st T20I vs SA

Hardik Pandya's captaincy stocks have risen ever since he impressed one and all with his leadership qualities in the IPL 2022 edition. In what was the star all-rounder's first-ever season as captain, the 28-year-old made a huge mark by leading the debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to their maiden title, beating Rajasthan Royasl (RR) with ease in the final.

Hardik's calm and composed nature on the field, leading the charge in all departments despite additional responsibility and some tactical decisions stood out as many former cricketers and experts of the game are impressed with his game-reading abilities as captain. Ahead of the India-South Africa T20Is, where Hardik has been promoted as the vice-captain after Rishabh Pant replaced an injured KL Rahul to become the new stand-in skipper, former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh made a huge claim on Hardik.

"One of the biggest revelations in this year's IPL was the advent of Hardik Pandya as the skipper of the Gujarat Titans and the way he led the team from the front to win the coveted title is definitely praiseworthy. His intent and positive captaincy are signs that he can lead Team India in the future," Harbhajan told PTI in an interview.

Before the SA series opener, head coach Rahul Dravid had also lauded Hardik's captaincy in IPL 15. He told the reporters, "I just met Hardik a couple of hours ago. For the guys who played the final, we gave them an extra day off. But I think his leadership was very impressive right through the IPL. He performed very well. In the sense, you don't have to be designated as a leader to be part of any leadership group. It's not only about Hardik being designated in a position. At this point in time, it's really about it's good from our perspective that he has started bowling again. We know what that does for us, and what his bowling can add to our depth."

Hardik, Pant-starrer India take on South Africa in the five-match T20I series opener on Thursday evening (June 09) in New Delhi, India. Needless to say, Hardik will be eager to fulfill all roles for the Men in Blue, in what is his comeback for the national side after the 2021 T20 World Cup.

'He can lead Team India in future' - Harbhajan Singh lavishes praise on Hardik Pandya's leadership

India and South Africa will lock horns with each other in what is expected to be a mouth-watering five-match T20I series with the opening game to be played on Thursday evening (June 09). While Temba Bavuma-led Proteas are a strong squad, India have been hit with several injury concerns after their famed trio -- regular captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah -- were rested.

Ahead of the first T20I, news broke out from the Indian camp that regular vice-captain and stand-in skipper KL Rahul has been injured, along with wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Hence, Rishabh Pant is all set to don the captain's hat for the first time ever for Team India whereas the 28-year-old IPL-winning skipper Hardik Pandya will be his deputy for the series. Thus, India have lots riding on them to beat Proteas and also keep their unbeaten streak alive in the shortest format (currently at 12). If India win the series opener, they will create a world record of winning the most consecutive T20Is.

Match prediction for India vs SA 1st T20I: The sweltering heat of a typical June afternoon is set to trouble players from both sides. While the majority of them have played IPL 2022, the heat and humidity has just worsened in the national capital. Dew is, however, expected in the evening game and, hence, both sides' captains will prefer batting second, which has become a trend in the shortest format.

For India, they will have some issues finalising their playing XI after injuries to Rahul and Kuldeep. Nonetheless, they still have a lot of options, especially in bowling, but it will be interesting to see the all-rounders and bowlers who get the nod. In batting, the onus will lie on Ishan Kishan-Ruturaj Gaikwad, Pant, in-form finishers Hardik and Dinesh Karthik (if he plays). For SA, they have their main players but it remains to be seen how they adapt to the conditions and the surface in Delhi.

Possible India XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Hardik Pandya (vc), Dinesh Karthik/Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel, Bhuvnenshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal

Possible SA XI: Temba Bavuma (c), Quinton de Kock (wk), Reeza Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi.

"It's about ensuring that we can get the best out of him as a cricketer, in terms of bowling, batting, and fielding, and in terms of what happens ahead, it depends on many factors. The selectors will take that decision, in terms of what happens in the future," Dravid added.

Hardik will be making his return in India jersey during the SA T20Is. He was last seen representing India in the 2021 T20 World Cup and since then, he was out of action in order to fully recover from his back issues. Following a glittering IPL campaign, he will be desperate to carry on with his form for Team India as well.

'His leadership was impressive in IPL 2022' - Rahul Dravid all praise for Hardik Pandya ahead of SA T20Is

India have been handed a massive blow ahead of the start of the T20I series against South Africa as captain KL Rahul has been ruled out due to an injury. Along with Rahul, spinner Kuldeep Yadav has also been ruled out of the five-match series owing to an injury. Rahul was supposed to lead the team in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma, who has been rested for the series.

However, with an injury ruling him out, Rishabh Pant will now replace him as captain for the five T20Is. This will be the first time Pant will captain the Indian team having led Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the last two seasons. Both Pant and Rahul remain part of India's leadership group under regular captain Rohit.

BCCI confirmed the development on Wednesday and said star all-rounder Hardik Pandya will be the vice-captain for the T20I series against South Africa. Hardik enjoyed a phenomenal campaign for Gujarat Titans (GT) in the recently-concluded IPL 2022 by leading them to their maiden title in their debut season.

BCCI confirmed that Rahul has injured his right groin while Kuldeep will miss out after getting hit on his right hand while batting in the nets on Tuesday (June 07). No replacements have been named yet for the duo.

Rahul and Kuldeep's absence is a big blow for India ahead of the series against the Proteas. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is all set to make his comeback to the Indian team after a stellar Indian Premier League (IPL) season with his new team Gujarat Titans (GT). IPL 2022 was a memorable season for Hardik and the Titans as he led the debutants to their maiden IPL title in their first-ever campaign in the league. Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals comprehensively in the final to win the elusive trophy.

Hardik led from the front both as a player and a captain and played an instrumental role in his side's memorable triumph. He was the highest run-getter for the Titans last season with 487 runs in 15 matches at an average of 44.27 and a strike rate of 131.26. Hardik also stepped up with the ball when required and picked up 8 wickets for his team in IPL 2022.

Ahead of his comeback for Team India after a long spell on the sidelines, Hardik spoke about his love for cricket growing up and revealed who was his favourite cricketer. While he liked the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis and Virat Kohli among others, Hardik said his favourite was former India batter Wasim Jaffer.

Hardik and Krunal also played cricket at different age levels. They joined Mumbai Indians in the IPL where they got much-deserved opportunities and recognition for their splendid performances.

We never had a rivalry because our roles were always different. I used to play Under-16, he played Under-19.
