KL Rahul's recent fitness issues have seen him miss a number of matches for India ahead of the T20 World Cup which is scheduled to be played in Australia later this year. While he has not played for India since the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 earlier this year, Rahul's fitness issues can now reportedly see him miss out on vice-captaincy at the T20 World Cup 2022.

As per a report in Insidesport, Hardik Pandya is all set to pip Rahul to be named India's vice-captain for T20 World Cup in Australia this year. Hardik has been enjoying excellent form with the bat and ball ever since making his comeback for the Indian team post IPL 2022 and the all-rounder has become a vital cog in the limited-overs setup once again.

The report claims that Hardik will be named India's vice-captain when the selectors announce the squad for T20 World Cup 2022. He will serve as deputy to captain Rohit Sharma in the showpiece event. Hardik is already part of India's leadership group and had led the team on their tour of Ireland recently.

He showcased terrific leadership skills in IPL 2022 where he led Gujarat Titans to their maiden title in their debut season before making his comeback for Team India in the South Africa series at home. Hardik was then named India's captain for the Ireland tour where he led the team in the absence of senior players. He is currently India's vice-captain in their ongoing T20I series against West Indies.

“Hardik is a world-class player and it’s great to have him back in the team at full fitness. Whether he will be named vice-captain is up to the selectors. But he is already a leader in the group. As an all-rounder, he understands both situations. He has outstanding leadership skills and we saw that in the IPL. He will surely do well,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by Insidesport.

Rahul currently remains India's designated vice-captain in white-ball cricket but his fitness issues and recent absence from one series after another might see Hardik pip him as far as T20Is are concerned. As per the report, Rahul is expected to remain India's vice-captain in ODIs and Tests.

While it remains to be seen if Hardik will officially be announced as India's vice-captain for the T20 World Cup 2022, a clear picture will be projected when the selectors announce India's squad for the Asia Cup 2022 later this month. Both Rahul and Hardik are likely to be part of India's squad for the tournament.

Hardik Pandya becomes first Indian player to achieve rare double in men's T20Is

Suryakumar Yadav didn't have the best of starts to the ongoing five-match T20I series between India and West Indies, in the Caribbean island, with back-to-back failures in the opening two games. However, the right-hander came to his own in style in the third T20I and helped India chase down 165 as the visitors now lead the series 2-1.

Talking about the third T20I, held on Tuesday (August 02) at&nbsp;Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts, Rohit &amp; Co. opted to bowl first. Riding on Kyle Mayers' 74 and cameos from&nbsp;Rovman Powell and Shimron Hetymer, WI posted a challenging 164-5. In reply, India lost captain Rohit early -- retired hurt for a 5-ball 11 due to back spasm -- but rode on SKY's entertaining 44-ball 76, Shreyas Iyer's supporting knock and Rishabh Pant's 26-ball 33 not out to go past the finish&nbsp;line.

WATCH: Suryakumar Yadav wins over fans with heartwarming gesture after India beat WI in 3rd T20I

Team India have adopted a new attacking approach in the shortest format ever since Rohit Sharma took over from Virat Kohli last year. After the debacle in the 2021 T20 World Cup, where many slammed Men in Blue's timid approach, it seems that the one-time winners have learnt from their past mistakes and are willing to play more aggressively without compromising on&nbsp;their new exciting playing style.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is also Rohit's deputy in the ongoing five-match T20I series versus West Indies in the Caribbean island, threw more weight on India's new approach and also dwelled on his glittering performances ever since his return to competitive cricket, with IPL 2022, after last year's T20 WC.

"The last World Cup was very different than this one, but the process has remained the same. I have maintained a balance in my life now, where if I am performing I will be happy, even if I am not, I will be happy. With that you won't be overconfident while you perform well and won't be too demotivated when the bad slump comes along. That balance is really important," Hardik said in a chat with journalist Vimal Kumar while describing his sensational run since his comeback.

Speaking on India's new playing style, the 28-year-old Hardik stated, "You gain confidence when you see players performing with a new approach, the way with which pressure is being put on opposition bowlers. They might be thinking that even if new-look India are 10-3, they will be looking to score 190 rather than play out the 20 overs. Because of that attitude, this team is looking more and more dangerous."

Currently, the Hardik-starrer India lead the five T20Is versus West Indies 2-1 after beating the hosts by seven wickets in the third encounter on Tuesday (August 02).

'If new-look India are 10-3....' - Hardik Pandya throws weight on Rohit & Co.'s attacking approach in T20Is

Legendary Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath has heaped praise on Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya insisting that he has the abilities of two players in one. Hardik is currently one of the finest all-rounders in the world and is&nbsp;India's first-choice all-rounder in white-ball cricket. He has been excellent ever since making his comeback for the Indian team in the South Africa series at home earlier this year.

Hardik had opted for a break from international cricket post India's disappointing exit at the T20 World Cup 2021 last year to recover fully from his back injury. He made a roaring comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 where he led Gujarat Titans to their maiden title triumph in their debut season before regaining his spot in the Indian team.

Hardik has been unstoppable with both the bat and the ball ever since making his return for the Indian team and was one of the stand-out players during the team's tour of England where he was among the runs in both ODIs and T20Is while also picking up 11 wickets across the two formats.

"Cricket is very much a confidence sport. Hardik is very much a confidence player. If he is bowling well, it has a positive impact on his batting. He is two players in one. He is a luxury. McGrath also shared his views on the recent debate over the downfall of ODI cricket and said the format will remain interesting as long as runs are being scored. However, the former Australian pacer insisted changes should be brought in to make the format more interesting going forward.

"I am very much a traditionalist. I liked Tests, I liked my ODIs. Test cricket is still the ultimate to me. I hope that it is protected and still held in high regard. As for the ODIs, it is still exciting as long as they are scoring runs. Interesting to see the future (of ODIs) and see where it goes. They have got to keep making it (ODIs) exciting. Years after the&nbsp;case was filed against Bollywood producer-director Karan Johar along with Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for their 'misogynist and controversial' comments on an episode of 'Koffee with Karan', Jodhpur High Court has granted relief to the trio. As per the latest reports, the&nbsp;case lodged by DR Meghwal at Jodhpur’s Luni police station&nbsp;has been disposed of in the High Court and all three accused have been found innocent.

A report by Times Now stated that&nbsp;none of them were found guilty and that the case has been dismissed. This comes as a big relief for the filmmaker and the two cricketers as they had been subjected to a lot of hate and trolling on social media for the controversial episode.&nbsp;

Hardik Pandya was also under the scanner for his controversial tweet about&nbsp;Dr BR Ambedkar. The cricketer had once tweeted, “Which Ambedkar? The one who drafted a cross law and constitution or the one who spread the disease called reservation in the country.”

Coming back to the 'Koffee with Karan' episode,&nbsp;Hardik Pandya's comments on women left many outraged and as snippets of the episode started doing rounds on social media, many bashed the cricketer for his comments. He later&nbsp;issued an apology on Twitter.&nbsp;

“After reflecting on my comments on Koffee with Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way. Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show. In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone’s sentiments. Respect," Pandya wrote on his Twitter account in 2019.

Rohit Sharma-led India thrashed Nicholas Pooran's West Indies in the first T20I of the five-match series in&nbsp; Trinidad on Friday (July 29). Nonetheless, the Rohit-Rahul Dravid-led Indian team continued their winning run in the format and beat hosts by 68 runs in the series opener. Being asked to bat first, Team India rode on Rohit's 44-ball 64 and Dinesh Karthik's match-winning 19-ball 44 as India posted a challenging 190/6 in 20 overs. In reply, West Indies batters failed to put up a show and while many of them got starts, none stayed till the end to give a tough fight.

Arshdeep Singh, R Ashwinn and Ravi Bishnoi were the star performers with the ball, returning with two wickets each. Now, the action moves to the second T20I. Will Windies level the series or will the visitors continue their winning streak on the tour?

WI vs IND: When and where to watch West Indies vs India 2nd T20I - IST time and streaming details

Team India has attained a unique record this year with as many as seven players captaining the Men in Blue, due to different reasons, since early 2022. The likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Shikhar Dhawan have led India across formats.&nbsp;

In the ongoing white-ball tour of the West Indies, Dhawan got a chance to lead India once again — after last year's Sri Lanka tour — in the absence of many regulars such as full-time captain Rohit, Rahul, etc. While Rohit has taken charge for the ongoing five T20Is versus Nicholas Pooran-led Men in Maroon, he has now been assigned a new vice-captain in Rahul’s absence (who is Rohit’s deputy across formats).&nbsp;

Though Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja are present in the playing XI for the series opener, in Trinidad, it is Hardik Pandya who has been named the vice-captain for the T20I series. The all-rounder, who led the debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to victory in IPL 2022, recently captained India during the two-match Ireland T20Is in late June.

Ever since Rohit has been appointed as India’s all-format captain, there have been many changes in leadership due to frequent rest, injury or Covid concerns to Rohit-KL. Thus, in this way, the Indian team management is also getting a chance to groom young leaders in the presence of Hitman.

At the coin toss of the first T20I between India and WI, Rohit-led visitors were asked to bat first at the&nbsp;Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. The one-time winners are still without regulars such as Virat and Bumrah as the duo have been rested for the tour.&nbsp;

India will like to maintain their winning run in the format ahead of this year’s T20 World Cup, set to be held in Australia in the latter half.

India and West Indies will now shift focus to the T20Is as both sides meet each other in the five-match series opener on Friday (July 29) in Trinidad. After whitewashing the Windies in the three ODIs, India will now see the return of their regulars such as captain Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, etc. as they start as favourites versus the inconsistent Windies.

However, it isn't an unknown fact that the shortest form of the game is West Indies' most preferred format, comprising several power-hitters. Thus, they will like to move past their ODI struggles and give a tough fight to Men in Blue, who are coming into this series on the back of a 2-1 series win over hosts England, early this month.

WI vs IND: When and where to watch West Indies vs India 1st T20I match - IST time and streaming details

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has made a bold claim regarding Hardik Pandya's future in ODI cricket after England all-rounder Ben Stokes shockingly retired from the fifty-over format earlier this week. Stokes announced his retirement from ODIs stating that he feels it is 'unsustainable' for him to continue playing in all three formats of the game.

Stokes' shock retirement from ODI has sparked a massive debate over the extreme workload on cricketers who play all three formats of the game these days. It has put the spotlight on the packed schedule of cricketers and how the continuous action is taking a toll on their physical and mental health.

Amid the debate over players' packed schedules, Shastri had suggested players will soon start selecting formats they want to play and walk away from the ones they don't want to feature in. Citing the example of India's star all-rounder Pandya, Shastri said he is very clear in his mind he wants to play only T20 cricket going forward.

Pandya used to be a vital cog in the Indian squad across formats but is currently focused on only playing limited-overs cricket for Team India ever since recovering from his back injury. Shastri believes Pandya might decide to quit ODIs and walk away from the fifty-over format after hanging around till next year's ODI World Cup.

"50-over format might be pushed back but it can still survive if you focus just on the World Cup. From the ICC's point of view, paramount importance should be given to World Cups, whether it is T20 World Cup or 50-over World Cup, the bucks have to increase. Test cricket will always remain because of the importance it brings to the game. You have players already choosing what formats they want to play. Take a Hardik Pandya. He wants to play T20 cricket and he is very clear in his mind that 'I do not want to play anything else," Shastri said on Sky Sports.

"He will play the 50-over cricket because there is a World Cup in India next year. After that, you might see him going from that as well. You will see a similar thing happening with other players, they will start choosing formats, they have every right to," added the former India head coach.

Pandya, who made his debut for Team India in 2016, has since gone on to become one of the finest all-rounders in world cricket. He has so far played 11 Tests, 66 ODIs and 63 T20Is for India, amassing 532, 1386 and 770 runs in the three formats respectively. He has also scalped a total of 148 wickets across all three formats in international cricket.

'You might see him going': Ravi Shastri claims Hardik Pandya may quit ODI cricket after 2023 World Cup

Team India is set to play West Indies in three ODIs and five T20Is, in the Caribbean island, with the tour opener to take place on Friday (July 22). In Rohit Sharma's absence, Shikhar Dhawan will take charge of the ODI side whereas Hitman will reclaim his position during the five T20Is.

In the year 2022, India have had several captains such as Rohit, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah whereas Dhawan will also join the list, having already captained a second-stringed side during the Sri Lanka tour last year. Ahead of the WI series, former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris feels Shreyas Iyer is also a future captaincy candidate provided he cashes in on his opportunities and gets rid of his short-ball struggles.

Styris agreed&nbsp;that the forthcoming WI tour can be a do-or-die condition for Iyer, who hasn't done anything extraordinary since his return in India colours after IPL 2022. The New Zealander also&nbsp;termed the star batter as a captaincy choice and told Sports 18, "One hundred percent, what I really like about Shreyas Iyer is the leadership quality that he possesses. I think he is a real possibility to be a captain as well for India. For that reason, I would like to see him in and even given more and more opportunities around this squad."

<section>
"What I don't like is that there is no secret about Shreyas Iyer now. He has real problems with the short ball. I think you will see a lot of teams attack him with their quick bowlers, attack him at the body with the bouncers, under the armpit, if you like, because I am not sure he has found a way," the former cricketer added.

Iyer is part of India's ODI and T20I squad for the WI tour and will be eager to come up with consistent performances to cement his place in the white-ball setup. With the T20 World Cup to be held later this year, in Australia, the middle-order batter needs to be on his toes or he will miss being part of the squad for the trip Down Under.

Not Pandya, Pant or Rahul! Former NZ all-rounder backs India's star player as future captaincy candidate

Hardik Pandya had a stellar run in Rohit Sharma-led India's successful white-ball series versus hosts England, which concluded on July 17 (Sunday) in Manchester. India won the three T20Is, 2-1, and also claimed the following three ODIs by the same margin to end a memorable tour of England.&nbsp;

Hardik impressed one and all with his all-round heroics throughout the white-ball leg, ending with the Player-of-the-Match in the opening T20I (for his maiden fifty and four-fer) and Player-of-the-Series in the ODIs, for his vital 55-ball 71 in the series finale and six scalps overall. Thus, the 28-year-old all-rounder remains in peak form ever since he made his return to competitive cricket since IPL 2022's commencement, where he led debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) to their maiden title.

Thus, Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar shared some advice for Hardik and lauded him for his memorable run versus England. “I was happy to see Hardik Pandya perform as a bowler as he brings an incredible balance to the team. I am also delighted that he has become serious about his fitness. He got a good shock when he was out of the team for 1-2 years as he was a bit unfit casual," Akhtar said&nbsp;on his YouTube channel.

“He seems to enjoy his life on the field. He should not enjoy much off the field as he is a rare talent. He is a great fielder, a great bowler, actually, he is a great addition to the pace battery. He outshone other bowlers and I would advice him to remain focused on his game," the former pacer&nbsp;asserted.

Hardik also achieved a rare feat in the third and final ODI versus Jos Buttler's England when he became only the fifth Indian to&nbsp;score a half-century and also account for four wickets in the same match. Shoaib Akhtar shares advice for Hardik Pandya after India's successful white-ball series vs England

From Shikhar Dhawan to Jasprit Bumrah: 7 captains Rahul Dravid has worked with as India's head coach

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya are being praised by one and all ever since India won the third and final ODI versus England, in Manchester, to claim the series 2-1. The duo got together with Men in Blue tottering at 72/4 in pursuit of 260.

India lost their famed top 3 -- captain&nbsp; Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli -- for cheap (at 38 for 3) before Suryakumar Yadav also followed suit, leaving India at 72 for 4. Thus, the duo steadied the ship, played sensibly, ran well between wickets and took on the bowlers one by one to take India to a stunning five-wicket win in the series decider. While Pant remained unbeaten on 125, Hardik fell for a 55-ball 71 after claiming 4/24 with the ball.

Speaking on&nbsp;Sports Tak, former Indian opener-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on Pant-Hardik and was even optimistic of them replicating the success of legendary Indian batting pair of MS Dhoni-Yuvraj Singh. "It can definitely happen. The kind of sixes Yuvraj and Dhoni used to hit, the way they steadied the innings, the way they ran between the wicket, Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant can be that pair for India. And just like Dhoni and Yuvraj used to hit sixes, I hope Pandya and Pant can win the hearts of cricket fans."

Speaking on Hardik's golden run since his comeback at the competitive level, he opined, "Hardik has made his comeback at the right time because India desperately needed an all-rounder. 'Just like Dhoni & Yuvraj...: Gavaskar lauds Pant-Pandya, compares duo with legendary Indian batting pair

Team India ended their tour of England by winning both the white-ball series. Rohit Sharma-led India won the three T20Is, 2-1, and also clinched the following three ODIs by the same margin. Thus, India are being termed as one of the favourites for the upcoming T20 World Cup, in Australia, as the team is ticking a lot of boxes in the shorter formats at present.

Nonetheless, when former England captain Nasser Hussain was asked&nbsp;how prepared&nbsp;India are for the upcoming T20 World Cup, Down Under, during an interaction on&nbsp;Sony Sports, he pointed out a glaring issue of the Indian batters against left-arm seamers. In 2016 Asia Cup, 2017 Champions Trophy final,&nbsp;2019 ODI World Cup semi-final and 2021 T20 World Cup, India's top order has struggled against left-arm seamers. Mohammed Amir, Shaheen Afridi, Trent Boult, etc. have troubled the Indian batters. Even in the India-England white-ball leg, Reece Topley caused a lot of trouble for the Men in Blue batters, claiming 3/28 in the final T20I and nine wickets in the last two ODIs. Thus, Hussain pointed out that India need to be wary of such bowlers and play ICC events like they play a bilateral series.

"India are a very strong team, but they need to learn from what happened in the past. In the last T20 World Cup in the UAE, they were a bit timid with the bat, so they need to stop being that. When you have Pandya and Pant in the middle order and then Jadeja that rope to follow, you don’t need to be timid at the top.

History tells you that Shaheen Shah Afridi blew them away one evening in Dubai, Mohammad Amir blew them away one afternoon at the Oval in a final, and Reece Topley has blown them away here [in two matches at Lord's and Old Trafford]," he added.

'They need to...' - Former England captain Nasser Hussain mentions Team India's glaring issue

Rishabh Pant has once again stunned world cricket. While Pant has been a huge hit for India in Test cricket, he has not lived upto expectations in the white-ball formats. However, when Rohit Sharma-led India faced England in the three-match ODI series decider, in Manchester on Sunday (July 17), the swashbuckling left-hander came to his best and delivered when the chips were down for the Men in Blue.

After dismissing Jos Buttler-led England for 259 in 45.5 overs, courtesy of Hardik Pandya's 4/24, India were in a spot of bother and reduced to 72/4 when Pant and Hardik joined forces. While Hardik played the aggressor's knock, with a 55-ball 71, the left-hander stayed till the end to smash his maiden ODI ton -- 125 not out off 113 balls -- and took India to a 2-1 series win over the 50-over world champions. Seeing Pant rise to the occasion in a high-pressure situation, former Indian batter and former Bengal coach Arun Lal has lavished huge praise on Pant. In addition, he feels he is the future captain after Rohit.

“Yes, absolutely (when&nbsp;asked if&nbsp;Pant is the future captain after Hitman). Lal told Jagran TV. "I always feel that the captain must deserve his place among the top three in the team. He (Pant) is someone who is not afraid to play his game, can handle pressure well, can take the team out of tough situations and such a player can be a great leader. It will be good for Indian cricket if we can have an aggressive player like Pant as captain of the side," he further asserted.

"If Pant can play consistently, he will be a hero for the Indian team. If you play well in red-ball format, there are chances that you will do well in white-ball format too with a little bit of adjustment. However, it’s not necessary that if you play well in the white-ball format, you will be able to perform the same way in the red-ball format because in Test cricket, you need a different set of skills, the ability to handle different kind of pressure, physical fitness to sustain five-day cricket. I have seen Rishabh Pant changing the tides both in Tests and limited-overs formats. It is not about scoring centuries, but a century that comes under difficult circumstances and helps to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat," added&nbsp;the former Bengal coach.

Is Rishabh Pant the future captain after Rohit Sharma? Former India batter shares his take

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya were the star performers for Team India as they clinched the three-match ODI series versus England, in Manchester, on Sunday (July 17). After bundling out Jos Buttler-led England for 259 45.5 overs, the Rohit Sharma-led side was&nbsp;in trouble after being reduced to 38/3, further to 72/4, before Hardik-Pant's 133-run fifth-wicket stand rescued India and they went onto win the series decider by five wickets (claming the series 2-1).

While Hardik had already impressed with the bat, returning with 4 for 24, he slammed a match-winning 55-ball 71 before Pant rose to the occasion, with the series on the line, and smashed his maiden ODI ton. ENG vs IND: Yuvraj Singh reveals how he had a role to play in Rishabh Pant's 125 not out in 3rd ODI

In pursuit of 260, Rohit Sharma-led India were in a spot of bother in the third and final ODI versus Jos Buttler-led England at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday (July 17). India lost their famed top three -- skipper Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli -- very soon and were reduced to 38 for 3 before Suryakumar Yadav's dismissal further pushed India on the back foot, reeling at 72 for 4.

From thereon, Hardik Pandya -- who had helped India dismiss England for 259 in 45.5 overs courtesy of his 4/24 -- joined Rishabh Pant and the duo batted sensibly in the initial few overs before the all-rounder attacked swiftly and allowed the keeper-batter to play freely. Without dropping much sweat, the duo stitched an invaluable 133-run fifth-wicket match-winning stand. Despite Hardik being out for a 55-ball 71, Pant stayed till the end to ensure India went past the finish&nbsp;line, by five wickets, with his unbeaten 125-run knock, off 113 balls.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Hardik revealed the chat he had with centurion Pant. He said, "I was just repeating the same thing and even told him that I am repeating it too much! Let’s have a partnership, take the match as close as possible, and finish the match.&nbsp;Pehle match toh close kar, phir tujhe enjoy karna hai to kar le!&nbsp;(Finish the match first, then&nbsp;you can&nbsp;enjoy if you want).“And then he opened up. Everyone knows when he starts hitting, we are like&nbsp;ab hum baith jaate hain, chalo aap khelo&nbsp;(okay, now we can sit back and relax&nbsp;and you can hit)."

Despite Hardik being out for a 55-ball 71, Pant stayed till the end to ensure India went past the finish line, by five wickets, with his unbeaten 125-run knock, off 113 balls. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Hardik revealed the chat he had with centurion Pant. He said, "I was just repeating the same thing and even told him that I am repeating it too much! Let’s have a partnership, take the match as close as possible, and finish the match. Pehle match toh close kar, phir tujhe enjoy karna hai to kar le! (Finish the match first, then you can enjoy if you want).“And then he opened up. Everyone knows when he starts hitting, we are like ab hum baith jaate hain, chalo aap khelo (okay, now we can sit back and relax and you can hit)." 'I was just.....' - Hardik Pandya reveals chat with Rishabh Pant in duo's match-winning stand vs England

India and England locked horns in the third and final ODI, at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Sunday (July 17) with the series levelled at 1-1. With no Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounder Hardik Pandya stepped up with the ball and his 4 for 24 dismissed England for 259 in 45.5 overs.

Later, India were 72 for 4 in pursuit of 260 before Hardik once again rose to the occasion and stitched a match-winning 133-run fifth-wicket stand with centurion Rishabh Pant (113-ball 125 not out). The 28-year-old Hardik returned with an attacking 55-ball 71 and ended with the Player-of-the-Series award, with a vital knock and six scalps overall.

Throughout the ODIs, Hardik resorted to short-ball ploy at regular intervals. His short-ball tactics derailed England's innings in the series decider, being the deciding factor of the match. Hardik and Liam Livingstone's battle was also a treat to watch for&nbsp;viewers and spectators. While Livingstone was taking him on, Hardik backed himself with the same ploy before dismissing the aggressive batter for a 31-ball 27.

Speaking about his short-ball plan at the end of the match, Hardik said, "It was very important for me to come and stop the runs and make sure as many dots balls I can bowl. We took two wickets early but they recovered well and were cruising at one point. I love short balls. I don't fancy people taking me on, it always gets me into the game, that's exciting. I don't mind getting hit for six sixes unless and until I take a wicket."

Talking about India's run-chase, they were tottering at 38 for 3 and 72/4 before Hardik-Pant's century-stand rescued the visitors' ship. In the end, Hardik fell for 71 but Pant's 125 not out and Ravindra Jadeja's 15-ball 7* took India home in 42.1 overs.

'I am shameless as a bowler...': Hardik Pandya dwells on his face-off with Liam Livingstone

Hardik Pandya enjoyed a dream run with his new team Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as he led the franchise to their maiden title in their debut season. Hardik was appointed as the captain of the Titans ahead of the new season after being roped in by GT in the players' draft. The star Indian all-rounder was released by his former side Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the mega auction.

Mumbai Indians' decision to let go of Pandya had left many in shock as he is the best all-rounder India have in white-ball cricket at present. Hardik had made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians back in 2015 and played an instrumental role in their success with both the bat and the ball. He had not played for any other IPL team in his career before being released by MI.

However, MI's decision to release him proved to be a blessing in disguise for Pandya, who went on to inspire Gujarat Titans to a memorable IPL triumph in their maiden season. However, the all-rounder was not happy with MI's decision to release him and was left shocked when the franchise didn't retain him.

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri recently revealed Pandya was left shocked when he was released by the five-time champions. However, the extra responsibility of leading the team at Titans did wonders for him in IPL 2022.

"It shocked him when he was not retained by Mumbai Indians," Shastri said in the commentary box during the 2nd ODI between India and England at Lord's on Thursday.&nbsp;

"It was tough... MI had Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharna, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya so they had to pick three out of those five. Ishan Kishan was obviously picked in the auction.

"He was picked by Gujarat Titans, where he was given the extra responsibility of captaining, which did him a world of good. When given responsibility, he's a completely different cricket as opposed to just batting and fielding," added the former India head coach.

MI had problems of plenty when it come to retentions ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction as they had a squad full of match-winners. The franchise decided to keep hold of skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard as their 4 retentions while letting go of Pandya and Ishan Kishan among others.

However, MI managed to buy back Ishan at the auction while Pandya was roped in by GT in the draft before the auction. Hardik Pandya was shocked when Mumbai Indians decided not to retain him, reveals Ravi Shastri

Hardik Pandya has had a stellar time since IPL 2022. In the 15th IPL season, which saw him make a comeback at the competitive level after last year's T20 World Cup, Hardik returned with his best-ever tally as a batter (487 runs) and claimed eight scalps, including a match-winning three-fer in the season-finale as Gujarat Titans (GT) won their maiden championship on debut.

Hardik's stocks rose considerably after leading Gujarat to a historic title as captain. Making a comeback for India in the home T20Is versus South Africa, the all-rounder fulfilled both roles and was also Rishabh Pant's deputy. Further, he was appointed as the Indian captain during the second-stringed side's twin&nbsp;T20Is versus Ireland, in Dublin, which Men in Blue won 2-0. In the India-England T20Is, the 28-year-old scored his maiden fifty in the format. Hence, he is on a roll, however, question marks remain on his ability to bowl his full quota of overs in ODIs. So far, he has bowled regularly in T20Is, nonetheless, it remains to be seen if he can complete his full overs in the 50-over format.

In this regard, Hardik-led Gujarat franchise's head coach Ashish Nehra made an interesting remark. "Even Hardik won’t be able to answer that since you can plan but things don’t always fall into place. But so far so good. Hardik can be in any white ball team solely as a batter. On top of that, if he bowls, it will be a bonus. But you can’t keep him as your fifth bowler in T20 or 50 overs. He can only be your sixth bowler," Nehra was quoted as saying by Telegraph India.

The 2011 ODI World Cup winner further&nbsp;added, "But looking at his fitness, you have to build it up slowly. He will not be going to the West Indies for ODIs, which is good in a way. When you are an out-and-out fast bowler, you don’t have a choice. You have to bowl, you have to be fit... But it’s not the case with Hardik. He has been doing well during the last 2-3 months."

Hardik bowled only four overs, conceding 22&nbsp;runs and being wicketless, in India's ODI series opener versus hosts England at The Oval, London. He is already among wickets in the ongoing second and penultimate ODI, on Thursday (July 14) at Lord's, and will slowly aim to regularly finish his full quota of overs in white-ball formats.

India have had a peculiar year with frequent captaincy changes. So far, six players have captained India in the calendar year, with more than five months to go in 2022. Apart from regular captain Rohit Sharma, the likes of KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have led the team across formats.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ahead of the start of the 1st T20I between India and England, in Southampton on Thursday (July 07), skipper Rohit -- who missed the fifth and final rescheduled Test between India and England in Edgbaston due to contracting the Covid-19 virus -- broke his silence over the frequent captaincy changes in the Indian camp.&nbsp;

"No. It's something we have prepared. We know the scheduling, we got to have the understanding, that players will be swapped every now and then. You can create your bench strength as well, a lot of opportunities for guys to come out and play. Exciting times, these guys have been here for a while playing in Ireland and played a couple of games here as well," said Rohit.

#TeamIndia have won the toss & elected to bat 🏏#ENGvIND pic.twitter.com/U6rgjOWr2i — Doordarshan Sports (@ddsportschannel) July 7, 2022 × ALSO READ | ENG vs IND: Rohit Sharma scripts history, becomes first captain to win 13 successive T20Is Talking about the 1st T20I, India rode on quickfire knocks from Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya's maiden fifty to post 198-8. With his all-round blitz, the 28-year-old Hardik also scripted a massive feat by becoming the first-ever Indian to score a fifty and return with a four-wicket haul in a T20I.

Thus, Hardik&nbsp;joined the list of elite all-rounders such as Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, and Mohammed Hafeez to have achieved the same feat earlier. At the post-match presentation, Player-of-the-Match Hardik said, "The last time I played a T20 in England, I think I took 4 wickets and scored some 30. So I kind of knew I was the first Indian to score fifty and take 4 wickets. I am enjoying my cricket right now. For me a lot of time goes into the preparation to get my body ready. The kind of break I took before this run of play I want to capitalize on the opportunities. I felt I needed that break. It is about giving your 100% and when you don't do that, there is no point playing. So I needed that break and now I am happy to be in this place right now."

ENG vs IND, 1st T20I: Hardik Pandya becomes first Indian to achieve MASSIVE feat in series opener

An inspired all-round show from Hardik Pandya fired India to an emphatic 50-run win over England in the first Twenty20 of their three-match series at the Ageas Bowl on Thursday.

India made a flying start after opting to bat, with Deepak Hooda (33) and Suryakumar Yadav (39) taking a liking to the English attack before Pandya (51) chipped in with his maiden fifty in the shortest format and guided India to 198-8.

Things had looked even worse for the hosts with Pandya in full flow but fine death bowling from Tymal Mills (1-35) and Chris Jordan (2-23) dragged them back into the game and kept India under 200.

Harry Brook (28) and Moeen Ali (36) tried to revive England in the middle overs, but both fell to the leg-spin of Yuzvendra Chahal (2-32) as the loss of regular wickets meant the home side were bowled out for 148 in 19.3 overs.

Hardik Pandya brilliance powers India to win over England in first T20I

India dominated proceedings for most parts in the just-concluded Edgbaston Test before losing the contest by seven wickets as the five-match series, which commenced during 2021 English summer, ended in a 2-2 stalemate on Tuesday (July 06).

In Rohit Sharma's absence, India were led by pacer Jasprit Bumrah whereas Rishabh Pant was his deputy. India were asked to bat first as they posted 416 after centuries from Pant and Ravindra Jadeja. In reply, England posted 284 courtesy of Jonny Bairstow's ton, giving a 132-run healthy lead to Team India. India, however, didn't capitalise and only managed to post 245 in their second essay, setting up a challenging 378-run target. While the target was a stiff one, India had a chance to completely bat England out of the contest by setting up anything over 450, however, they fell flat. In the run-chase, England were 109/3 before tons from Bairstow and Root took India home.

"Due to injury and any other reason, we had to shuffle between captains. But now Rohit is fit and is available for the upcoming games," he stated.

Important for India to have a stable captain: Former stumper highlights glaring issue after Edgbaston Test

In 1959, as many as five players (Vinoo Mankad, Hemu Adhikari, Datta Gaekwad, Pankaj Roy and Gulabrai Ramchand) led Team India. In 2022, India have broken the 63-year-old record as Jasprit Bumrah became the sixth player to lead the team&nbsp;in the calendar year.&nbsp;

It has been a unique year for India, with captaincy changes happening at regular intervals due to injury and Covid concerns&nbsp;or with two sides playing parallelly. In this regard, the likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and now Bumrah have led India across formats. Kohli led India in a solitary Test, during the third and final match versus hosts South Africa, before resigning from the post. KL Rahul had led in his place in the second and penultimate Test with Kohli out of action due to injury. Rahul also led in the three ODIs in South Africa before Rohit Sharma resumed captaincy duties in the home white-ball&nbsp;series versus West Indies and Sri Lanka, respectively.&nbsp;

Post IPL 2022, Rishabh Pant led India in the five T20Is versus the Proteas at home, as regulars such as Rohit, Kohli, etc. were rested before the one-off Test against England. With Rohit being ruled out of the England Test due to Covid concerns, Bumrah became the sixth captain of India in 2022.

Talking about the final Test, Ben Stokes-led England opted to bowl first versus India. Bumrah said at the toss, "It's a good feeling (to be captain) and is a big privilege. Can't get better than this. Excited and looking forward to this." Ahead of the match, head coach Rahul Dravid told the broadcasters, "I think he (Bumrah) is a very thoughtful individual, understands the game very well. Also he commands the respect of the team, which is very important as a leader. Bowling changes, field changes obviously will only get better with time. It's a new challenge. It's not easy for a fast bowler to captain, he's got to think about his own bowling too. Have had a few conversations with him, and told him that we need him more as a bowler. Captaincy is something that you'll get better at as you do it more."

Bumrah became the second pacer to lead India in the purest format after Kapil Dev. He is officially India's 36th Test captain.

ENG vs IND, 5th Test: Jasprit Bumrah becomes India's 6th captain in 2022, shatters 63-year-old record

Deepak Hooda hit a master-class maiden century as India survived a mighty scare before defeating Ireland by four runs in a nail-bitting high-scoring second T20 International to sweep the two-match series here on Tuesday. Hooda scored 104 off 57 balls to become only the fourth Indian to hit a T20 International ton, while Sanju Samson contributed 77 off 42 balls to power India to a mammoth 225 for seven after opting to bat.

Ireland took the chase to the last over with skipper Andy Balbirnie (60 off 37), Paul Stirling (40 off 18), Harry Tector (39 off 28) and George Dockrell (34 not out off 16) shinning bright but they eventually fell short as rookie India pacer Umran Malik defended 17 runs in the final over.

Opting to bat, Hooda showed he belonged to the big stage with his scintillating stroke play, both off the front and backfoot. While Hooda was elegant and at ease on the frontfoot, he was equally good on the backfoot, dispatching the ball over the midwicket boundary for a few sixes.

Hooda decorated his knock with nine fours and six hits over the fence. He was ably supported by Sanju Samson, who, opening the batting in place of injured Ruturaj Gaikwad, played second fiddle but grabbed his opportunity with both hands. Both Hooda and Samson's strokeplay down the ground were a treat for the eyes.

Ireland made a rollicking start to their chase, with Stirling and Balbirnie sharing 72 runs for the opening wicket off just 34 balls. Stirling went hammer and tongs from the world go. Stirling took Bhuvneshwar Kumar to task, hitting the bowler for a six and three boundaries to pick up 18 runs from the opening over.

Stirling then clobbered skipper Hardik Pandya for a six. The opening duo continued their attacking display to notch up Ireland's 50 for no loss in just four overs. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi broke the dangerous-looking 72-run opening stand in the sixth over, cleaning up Stirling.

In his next over, Bishnoi had Balbirnie stumped by Ishan Kishan but it turned out to be a massive no-ball. Balbirnie utilised the chance and clobbered all the Indian bowlers to all parts of the ground to keep Ireland at par with the asking rate.

He was particularly severe on young pace sensation Malik, dispatching the pacer's short deliveries over the fence as Ireland brought up their 100 in nine overs for the loss of two wickets. Balbirnie notched up his sixth T20 International 50 off 34 balls and continued his onslaught for some time before being caught by Bishnoi off Harshal Patel.

But Tector, Dockrell and Mark Adair (23 not out off 12 balls) kept Ireland in the hunt till the last ball from which the hosts needed a six to win the match and draw the series. Adair, however, could manage just one run as Malik lived up to his captain's call.

Earlier, India did not have the best of starts as they lost Ishan Kishan (3) early. The left-handed opener once again wasted an opportunity, nicking a Mark Adair delivery to Lorcan Tucker behind the stumps in the third over. Hooda and Samson joined hands and the duo batted effortlessly, albeit handing two difficult chances, to share 176 runs off just 85 balls to lay the foundation for India's huge total.

It was a one-way traffic after Kishan's dismissal as Hooda and Samson toyed with the Irish bowlers and did not let them settle down. Except for a difficult chance which Paul Stirling dropped at extra off in the eight over, Hooda played a perfect knock.

Samson too was handed life in the ninth over when leg-spinner Gareth Delany dropped a difficult caught-and-bowled chance. Samson too played some delightful strokes, particularly off the backfoot during his half-century knock. He, however, was cleaned up by Adair in the 17th over.

Hooda brought up his maiden T20I century off 55 balls with a single to join the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Suresh Raina in the elite club of only four Indian centurions in the format.

Once Hooda departed at the team score of 212, Surya Kumar Yadav (15) and skipper Hardik Pandya (13 not out) tried to accelerate the scoring but failed as India lost three wickets for the addition of just 14 runs in the last two overs.

Deepak Hooda's maiden century helps India beat Ireland by 4 runs in 2nd T20I, seal series 2-0

India and England are all set to lock horns in the fifth and final Test, part of&nbsp;the incomplete 2021 red-ball series, on July 1 in Edgbaston, Birmingham. As the series finale&nbsp;will take place from July 01 to 05, the white-ball regulars from the Test line-up won't get enough time to rest and prepare for the three-match T20I series, which commences on July 07.

Thus, Hardik Pandya -- who led India to a 2-0 series whitewash over Ireland in the shortest format on Tuesday (June 28) -- will lead the Men in Blue in the T20I series opener versus England. As per a report in PTI, the players who were part of the Ireland series will play the opening T20I whereas regulars such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja will turn up for India from the second and penultimate tie, to be held on July 10. The third and final T20I will take place on July 10, followed by three ODIs.
