Data from the United Nations has revealed that the majority of the humanitarian aid sent to Gaza is being intercepted before reaching the starving civilians. According to the UN Office for Project Services, out of more than 29,885 pallets of aid supplies sent by multiple agencies to Gaza, only about 4,182 have reached their destination, which is roughly 14 per cent. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told ministers he will seek cabinet approval for a plan to fully occupy the Gaza Strip, according to reports in Hebrew media. Several ministers said Netanyahu used the phrase “occupation of the Strip” in private discussions outlining his vision for an expanded military campaign, a significant change in tone as the government debates the next stage of the war.A senior official close to the prime minister was quoted by Ynet as saying: “The die is cast, we are going for a full occupation of the Gaza Strip.” They added, “There will be operations even in areas where hostages are being held. If the IDF chief of staff doesn’t agree, he should resign.”
IDF warns of risks and long timeline
The Israel Defense Forces currently control around 75% of Gaza. Under Netanyahu’s plan, the military would seize the remaining territory, placing the entire enclave under Israeli control. The army has cautioned against such a move, warning it could take years to dismantle Hamas infrastructure and might endanger hostages, who could be executed if troops approach their locations.
Cabinet divisions over next steps
Netanyahu has said he will convene the cabinet to set out orders for the IDF, with some expecting he could delay further offensives to allow hostage negotiations to progress. According to Channel 12, the security cabinet is split. Supporters of expanding operations reportedly include Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, and Military Secretary Maj. Gen. Roman Gofman and Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs. Those favouring continued efforts towards a ceasefire-hostage deal include IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee will travel to Gaza on Friday to inspect food distribution centres before the rollout of a new American aid plan, the White House announced on Thursday (July 31). She added, “President Trump is a humanitarian with a big heart, and that’s why he sent special envoy Witkoff to the region in an effort to save lives and end this crisis.”
US officials meet Netanyahu ahead of Gaza trip
Witkoff and Huckabee earlier held a “very productive” meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials to discuss the situation, according to Leavitt. While details remain limited, he said these sites would not be fenced, ensuring Palestinians can access aid freely. By Tuesday, Trump added that Israel would be in charge of managing the distribution sites. However, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have reportedly been reluctant to take on the task, citing concerns over troop safety.
Gaza Humanitarian Foundation under scrutiny
It remains unclear if the new US plan will involve the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a group already contracted by Israel to distribute food. For the past two months, GHF has been central to aid operations, with the Trump administration approving a $30 million donation to the group. However, the GHF’s centres are located mainly in southern and central Gaza, forcing many Palestinians to travel long and dangerous routes to access basic supplies. Aid groups and the United Nations have raised concerns about Israel’s heavy reliance on GHF.
Trump: Starvation in Gaza must end, but Israel must act too
Trump has recently acknowledged that starvation in Gaza is real and has promised to increase US assistance. Still, he insists that other Western nations and Israel must also step up. While the humanitarian push continues, Trump has not ruled out military escalation. He suggested this week that Israel might need to intensify its operations to pressure Hamas into agreeing to a hostage deal.

The US President Donald Trump administration is set to destroy nearly 500 metric tons of emergency food, which was kept for starving people around the world. US to burn food meant for 1.5mn starving children? Trump admin set to destroy 500 tons of emergency food - Here's what we know

Israel has unveiled a controversial plan to build a so-called "humanitarian city" in southern Gaza. Tel Aviv, which has been at war with Hamas in Gaza for over 21 months, has proposed a city with a "closed zone" where it wants to house around 600,000 of the people displaced from southern Gaza. However, the proposed project has come under intense fire, with critics warning that it may amount to a "war crime" – a distraction at best and a blueprint towards ethnic cleansing at worst. So, what is it? A concentration camp reminiscent of the Holocaust and Nazi Germany, or a place of shelter for hundreds of thousands of displaced Gazans? Here's all we know.
What is Israel proposing?
First unveiled last week by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, the plan envisions constructing a walled encampment in southern Gaza during a proposed 60-day ceasefire. The area, as per AFP, would initially house 600,000 displaced Palestinians, and eventually, Israel intends to relocate the entire Gaza population, over two million people, into this zone.Katz has described it as a civilian aid hub with four international distribution centres, secured by Israeli forces, albeit "from a distance." But new arrivals would be screened for Hamas ties and not permitted to leave once admitted, except to go to other countries, Katz said. The project is reportedly backed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Why is it so controversial?
Critics, including officials from UN agencies to *Israeli officials — say the humanitarian city is neither humane nor a city, but rather a mass detention site being planned under the guise of humanitarian relief. "It is a concentration camp. I am sorry," said former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in an interview with The Guardian. "If they [Palestinians] will be deported into the new ‘humanitarian city’, then you can say that this is part of an ethnic cleansing. It hasn’t yet happened.". He said that this would be the "inevitable interpretation" of any attempt to create a camp for hundreds of thousands of people. His sentiments were echoed by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) which said that the "plan would de-facto create massive concentration camps at the border with Egypt". Slamming the proposal Britain's minister for the Middle East and North Africa Hamish Falconer has said he is "appalled" by the idea. On X, he insisted that "Palestinian territory must not be reduced...Civilians must be able to return to their communities."
What would it cost?
Estimates, as published by AFP, peg the cost of the proposed facility between 10 and 20 billion shekels ($3–6 billion). This huge expense would come on top of the economic burden of the ongoing war — now in its 21st month — which has already strained Israel's budget. "That money is not coming back," opposition leader Yair Lapid posted on X. The proposal has also been seen as a nod to long-standing goals of far-right Israeli ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, key coalition partners of the Israeli Prime Minister. "Netanyahu is letting Smotrich and Ben Gvir run wild with extremist delusions just to preserve his coalition. Instead of plundering the middle class's money, end the war and bring back the hostages."
What does international law say?
Under international humanitarian law, the forced displacement of civilians is strictly prohibited, except for temporary evacuations due to immediate dangers from hostilities. In a statement, Amnesty International, which has accused Israel of genocide, warned that, "relocating Gazans within the territory or "deporting them outside against their will would amount to the war crime of unlawful transfer". On Friday (Jul 11), 16 prominent Israeli legal scholars in a letter to Netanyahu and Katz also warned that the scheme could fall under the definitions of war crimes.

On Facebook, the group describes itself as a "voice of truth against terrorism for a safe homeland for all”. Moreover, the group has also been accused of working with the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). The group has been claiming that the Hamas terror group has been looting the aid in Gaza, while the Palestinian militant group has rejected the allegations of war profiteering and humanitarian aid theft.

The group's leader Yasser Abu Shabab revealed that his group is “coordinating” with the Israeli army in Rafah. Shabad in an interview with Israeli public broadcaster KAN, said that his group is cooperating with Israel on “support and assistance” but not “military actions".

The Palestinian militant group Hamas allegedly used sexual violence as "part of a deliberate genocidal strategy" during the October 7 attack on Israel, a group of Israeli legal and gender experts claimed in a new report. The Dinah Project, in its report, stated what it describes as a "legal blueprint for prosecuting these crimes, even when direct attribution to individual perpetrators is impossible".The report is based on a review of evidence, which further includes testimony from a survivor of an attempted rape and 15 former hostages held in Gaza.According to the report, the Palestinian militant group used sexual violence as a "tactical weapon", as part of a genocidal scheme and with the goal of "terrorising and dehumanising Israeli society".It also "creates a pathway to justice for victims of the 7 October attack and potentially for victims in other conflict zones", the group stressed. The authors of the report stated that they reviewed several sources from social media as well as recorded testimonies. They also gathered forensic evidence and visual and audio evidence. One of the 15 former hostages said that she was forced to perform a sexual act, which was preceded by sexual abuse and verbal and physical sexual harassment, as per the report. While continuing to express her ordeal, she also said that she endured forced nudity.Almost all the hostages reported verbal and some physical harassment, including "unwanted physical contact in private parts", the report read. Moreover, 27 first responders described dozens of cases which showed "clear signs of sexual violence across six locations", including the Nova festival, Route 232, and the kibbutzim of Be'eri, Alumim, Nahal Oz and Re'im.
Hamas denies allegation of ‘sexual abuse’
However, Hamas has denied the allegations, saying that they did not commit sexual violence or mistreat any women while keeping them hostage. In March 2024, a United Nations mission concluded that there were "reasonable grounds" to believe that conflict-related sexual violence happened during the October 7 attack in Israel, including rape and gang rape.
What is the Global March
A group of people led by citizens of the Maghreb, a Northwest African region, is marching from Tunisia via Libya and Cairo to Rafah in a symbolic effort to draw attention to the Western Media, which has normalised the killing of civilians, children and pressure world leaders to take action on Gaza. The Sumud convoy will be joined by people from 50 different countries in Cairo.“This convoy is not about delivering aid – it’s about delivering a message…A message of solidarity, resistance, and international pressure”, said Haifa Mansura, a Tunisian activist and co-organiser.“It’s not just the silence of Europe we’re confronting – it’s the silence of Arab leaders,” said Tunisian journalist and activist Fadiya Al-Husseini.The Sumud (resilience) Convoy is led by the Coordination of Joint Action for Palestine. Approximately 120 vehicles, nine buses, and roughly 1,700 participants are travelling from Tunisia. They will be joined by volunteers from different countries who will start arriving in Cairo today (June 12), and then travel to the city of Arish, from where they will begin their on-foot march to Rafah on June 15.German lawyer Melanie Schweitzer said that the march is a peaceful civil disobedience movement, and the convoy does not just intend to reach Gaza, but they intend to stage a sit-in at the crossing in Rafah. Irish activist Karen Moynihan said that the organisers have been contacting Egyptian embassies and their national diplomatic missions to ensure safe passage through Cairo. While Egypt has not denied entry, it has asked the convoy to obtain official permits on its journey to Gaza. The protestors are ready to endure hardship as a symbolic consonance and solidarity with the hardship of Gaza's residents, who have been subjected to persecution and slaughter over the last 20 months.
Greta's fall from grace
The meteoric rise of Greta Thunberg as a face of the Green Capitalism arch has met with a significant fall from the grace of Western media, as many in the Western media are calling her an ‘attention-seeking narcissist’, the same media which once allowed her abundant screen time. This is primarily because she was no longer a naive climate justice activist and started to connect the dots that climate justice can not exist in isolation from social justice. She started linking climate change to extractive capitalism of fossil fuel companies, to colonial exploitation of indigenous lands, carbon inequality to racial and class injustice, environmental destruction to military occupation and war economies, silence on Palestine to Western hypocrisy on human rights and justice. This alerted the faces of global capitalism, making them uncomfortable. Before Greta's voyage with Freedom Flotilla, every other voyage had met with a tragic end, notably being attacked and having been intercepted. But this Madleen voyage, even though intercepted, motivated people who are willing to stand for a cause, instead of standing in the way.

The legacy media parroting the Israeli narrative dismissed Greta Thunberg and the Freedom Flotilla as photo ops, but this might just have set the precedent to protest against the Zionist regime, which has besieged the land of Gaza. The campaign marks a significant moment for the international solidarity as thousands more from trade unions, rights groups, medical sectors, and civil society belonging to 50 different countries are gathering in Cairo, Egypt for the Global march towards the Gaza strip aspiring to end the ethnic cleansing, establish a stable humanitarian corridor and expose Israeli war crimes.

Israel stopped 12, thousands more are approaching Gaza

The US administration is increasingly becoming non-committal towards the two-state solution to end the Israel-Palestinian conflict. The US administration is increasingly becoming non-committal towards the two-state solution to end the Israel-Palestinian conflict. In the latest, Mike Huckabee, the US envoy to Israel, has said he did not think that a Palestinian state remains a US foreign policy goal. He also suggested that Muslim countries should give up land to create the Palestinian state. What exactly did Huckabee say? Huckabee, a staunch pro-Israeli conservative who is an evangelical Christian, made the remarks in different interviews published on Tuesday (June 11). "I don't think so," Huckabee told Bloomberg News when asked whether a Palestinian state remains a US foreign policy goal "Unless there are some significant things that happen that change the culture, there's no room for it [Palestinian statehood]," Huckabee said, adding such a change probably won't happen in our lifetime'. The former Arkansas governor suggested that in order to create the Palestinian state, parts of Muslim countries should be used. "Does it have to be in Judea and Samaria?" he asked, referring to the biblical names used by the Israeli government for West Bank. In a separate interview to BBC, Huckabee said Muslim countries should ‘host’ a future Palestinian state, claiming that they have 644 times the land controlled by Israel. "So maybe, if there is such a desire for the Palestinian state, there would be someone who would say, we'd like to host it," he said. Huckabeen also slammed US allies UK and Australia for sanctioning two far-right Israeli ministers for inciting violence against Palestinian communities in West Bank. What is US stance on two-state solution? The two-state solution - the peaceful co-existence of Israel and the state of Palestine when it's formed, incorporating the West Bank and Gaza - has been the long-standing policy of the US. During his second term, Trump has been waxing and waning on this, without having a clear stance on statehood for Palestine. Huckabee, a staunch Israel supporter, is echoing Trump's pro-Israel policies. Trump administration's vague stance on Palestinian statehood Huckabee's comments came as Israel and Hamas continue their war in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza. In a sign of the increasingly arbitrary stance of the Trump administration, the State Department said Huckabeen was speaking for himself. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said policy-making was a matter for Trump and the White House, adding, "I'm not going to explain them or really comment on them at all. Hamas says ready for ‘serious’ talks with Israel to reach ‘permanent ceasefire’ in Gaza

Hamas has responded to the latest United States proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, but is not accepting the deal without some changes. A senior Hamas official told The Associated Press that the group is requesting amendments, particularly regarding the timing of hostage releases, the delivery of humanitarian aid, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and assurances from the US side.“There [are] some notes and amendments to some points, especially on the US guarantees, the timing of hostage release, the delivery of aid and the withdrawal of Israeli forces,” said the official, who spoke anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the negotiations. In a separate statement, Hamas said the deal should include a permanent ceasefire, a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the guarantee of sustained aid deliveries. The proposal outlines the release of 10 living hostages and the bodies of 18 others in return for an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners.
Israel agrees to temporary truce as negotiations intensify
While Hamas is asking for revisions, Israeli officials have already given their approval to the temporary truce suggested by Washington. US President Donald Trump noted that negotiators are close to reaching a final agreement.According to Egyptian and Hamas officials, the temporary ceasefire would last 60 days. It would see the release of some of the remaining 58 hostages in Gaza, along with Palestinian detainees, and allow in much-needed food and other aid. These officials spoke on condition of anonymity, as they were not authorised to brief the media.
Food aid looted as Gaza teeters on the brink of famine
Meanwhile, conditions in Gaza continue to worsen. On Saturday, desperation erupted when Palestinians intercepted and emptied dozens of aid trucks. According to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), 77 trucks carrying supplies, mostly flour, were stopped by hungry crowds before they could reach their destinations. The nearly three-month-long Israeli blockade has left more than two million people at risk of starvation. While Israel has recently allowed limited aid into the region, humanitarian groups say it’s nowhere near enough to meet basic needs.WFP said the situation is critical, “We need to flood communities with food for the next few days to calm anxieties and rebuild the trust with communities that more food is coming.” The agency has stockpiled over 140,000 metric tonnes of food, enough to feed Gaza for two months, ready to be delivered.
UN forced to use dangerous routes amid ongoing attacks
The UN has said that Israeli authorities are compelling them to use unsafe routes through military-controlled areas of Rafah and Khan Younis, regions where armed groups are active and aid convoys have been attacked. An internal UN document, viewed by the Associated Press, reported four looting incidents over just three days at the end of May, not counting Saturday’s events. The violence is making aid delivery extremely difficult. On Friday, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said that only five truckloads of supplies managed to pass through Kerem Shalom from the Palestinian side, while 60 others had to turn back due to heavy fighting.

In a separate statement, Hamas said the deal should include a permanent ceasefire, a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the guarantee of sustained aid deliveries.

'US guarantees, timing of hostage release, delivery of aid': Hamas demands changes to Witkoff truce proposal as Gaza descends into hunger crisis

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) head on Wednesday (May 28) slammed the new US-backed aid model in Gaza following a day of chaotic distribution in the war-torn territory. On Tuesday (May 27), thousands of Palestinians rushed to receive a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid distribution centre in Rafah in southern Gaza, which resulted in chaos, reported AFP. The GHF was announced by the United States earlier this month and is in partnership with the United Nations.
