Qatari and Egyptian officials have put forward a new peace proposal aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza, the BBC reported, citing a Hamas source.
<h2>What does the new Gaza peace plan includes?</h2>
The suggested deal includes a long-term ceasefire lasting between five and seven years, the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, a formal end to the war, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

A high-level Hamas delegation, led by political chief Mohammed Darwish and chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, is expected to travel to Cairo for talks.
The previous ceasefire collapsed a month ago when Israel resumed its bombing campaign. Both sides have since blamed each other for the breakdown. Israel has not yet responded publicly to the proposed peace plan.
While talks are being underway, violence has continued to escalate. Since Monday evening, 22 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, according to a spokesperson from the Hamas-run health ministry.

The strikes reportedly hit Khan Younis, Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Gaza City, injuring 45 others. Eyewitnesses described the bombing as "extremely intense," with dozens of bulldozers and pieces of heavy machinery destroyed. These machines were being used to clear rubble, reopen roads, and carry out rescue work.
<h2>Diplomatic push amid ongoing war</h2>
The Cairo meeting follows Hamas&rsquo;s recent rejection of Israel&rsquo;s latest ceasefire offer, which included a demand for the group to disarm in return for a temporary six-week truce.

On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the war would not end until Hamas was dismantled and all Israeli hostages were returned. Hamas, however, is insisting on a formal end to the war before it agrees to release hostages.
Speaking to the BBC, a Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations said Hamas had shown "unprecedented flexibility" and was prepared to hand over control of Gaza to a Palestinian body agreed upon at both the national and regional levels. This could include the Palestinian Authority (PA) or a new governing body. Netanyahu has rejected any future role for the PA in Gaza, which has been under Hamas control since 2007.

Top 10 world news: Israel admits 'failure' in reporting Gaza medics' killing; Russia-Ukraine violate Easter truce, and more

No money no loyalty no control in a way Hamas is spiraling into crisis mode as Israel's relentless siege and military strikes choke off its cash flow leaving the fighters unpaid and there are rare protests inside Gaza.

Hamas fund crisis: Fighters go unpaid as financial network implodes

Israel announced Wednesday that it had converted 30 percent of Gaza's territory into a buffer zone as it pressed its unrelenting military offensive, vowing to maintain its blockade on humanitarian aid to the war-ravaged territory.
Israel resumed air and ground attacks across the Gaza Strip on March 18, ending a two-month ceasefire with Hamas that had largely halted hostilities, with rescuers on Wednesday saying at least 11 were killed in strikes across the Palestinian territory.
The UN said an estimated 500,000 Palestinians have been displaced since the end of the Gaza ceasefire, triggering what it described as one of the most severe humanitarian crises the territory has faced in more than 18 months of war.
The Israeli military on Wednesday said that as part of its resumed operations, it had "achieved full operational control over several key areas and routes throughout the Gaza Strip".
"Approximately 30 percent of the Gaza Strip's territory is now designated as an Operational Security Perimeter."
It added that Israeli air strikes had hit "approximately 1,200 terror targets" and that "more than 100 targeted eliminations have been carried out" since March 18.
Defence Minister Israel Katz had declared earlier this month that the military was seizing "large areas" of Gaza, leaving it "smaller and more isolated".
Top Israeli officials have repeatedly said that military pressure was the only way to force Hamas to release the 58 hostages still held in Gaza.

<h2><hl2>'No aid for Gaza'&nbsp;</hl2></h2>
On Wednesday, the Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad released a video of an Israeli-German hostage, showing him alive and appealing to Israeli authorities and US President Donald Trump to secure his release.
His family and Israeli media identified him as Rom Braslavski from Jerusalem, who was abducted by militants from the Nova music festival during Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Katz announced that Israel would continue preventing aid from entering the besieged territory of 2.4 million people.
Israel had already halted the entry of aid into Gaza on March 2, exacerbating the severe humanitarian crisis in the war-battered territory.
"Israel's policy is clear: no humanitarian aid will enter Gaza, and blocking this aid is one of the main pressure levers preventing Hamas from using it as a tool with the population," Katz said.
Medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said Israeli military operations and the aid blockade had transformed Gaza into a graveyard for Palestinians and aid workers.
"Gaza has been turned into a mass grave of Palestinians and those coming to their assistance," said MSF coordinator Amande Bazerolle.
"With nowhere safe for Palestinians or those trying to help them, the humanitarian response is severely struggling under the weight of insecurity and critical supply shortages, leaving people with few, if any, options for accessing care," she said.
On Wednesday, the UN reported estimates that "about half a million people have been newly displaced or uprooted once more" in Gaza since March 18.
The world body had warned on Monday that Gaza was facing its most severe humanitarian crisis since the war began in October 2023.
"The humanitarian situation is now likely the worst it has been in the 18 months since the outbreak of hostilities," said the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
<h2><hl2>ICJ hearings</hl2></h2>
Israel controls the entry of all aid and supplies to Gaza.
On April 28, the International Court of Justice is set to open hearings on Israel's humanitarian obligations towards Palestinians.
The UN General Assembly approved a resolution in December requesting that The Hague-based top court give an advisory opinion on the matter.
It calls on the ICJ to clarify what Israel is required to do to "ensure and facilitate the unhindered provision of urgently needed supplies essential to the survival of the Palestinian civilian population".
Although ICJ decisions are legally binding, the court has no concrete way of enforcing them.
Israel continued to pound Gaza on Wednesday.
At least 11 people were killed in air strikes, 10 of them in an attack on Gaza City, the civil defence agency said.
The renewed assault has so far killed at least 1,652 people in Gaza, the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory reported, bringing to 51,025 the total toll since the war erupted in October 2023, most of them civilians.
Hamas's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

Israel claims 30 percent of Gaza turned into buffer zone; vows to maintain blockade on humanitarian aid

Palestinian militant group Hamas on Tuesday (April 15) said it had "lost control" with the group holding Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander after Israel launched an air strike in Gaza.&nbsp;
Abu Obeida, spokesman for the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, announced this on Telegram, saying that they are trying to reach them at this moment.&nbsp;
"We announce that we have lost contact with the group holding soldier Edan Alexander following a direct strike on their location. We are still trying to reach them at this moment," Obeida said on Telegram Channel.

&ldquo;It seems that the occupation army is deliberately trying to kill him and hence relieve themselves from the pressure caused by the dual-citizen prisoners in order to continue its genocide against our people,&rdquo; Abu Obeida added. &nbsp;
The Brigades released a video on Saturday, showing Alexander alive, in which he criticised the Israeli government for failing to secure his release.&nbsp;
In the video, Alexander was speaking, while making frequent hand gestures as he criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.

<h2>'Will suffer blow after blow'</h2>
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday warned Hamas that it will continue to suffer "blow after blow".&nbsp;
Netanyahu further insisted the Palestinian militant group to release the Israeli hostages.&nbsp;
"They are striking the enemy and Hamas will continue to suffer blow after blow. We insist that they release our hostages, and we insist on achieving all of our war objectives," Netanyahu told troops in Gaza, according to a statement from his office.
Israeli-American hostage Alexander was serving as a soldier in an elite infantry unit on the Gaza border when he was abducted by the Hamas group during the October 7 attack on Israel.&nbsp;
He was born in Israel and grew up in the US, and later, returned to Israel after high school to join the army.&nbsp;
Till date, Hamas has published two propaganda videos of Alexander, the latest on Saturday.

The Israeli army said that they have not carried out strikes in areas where it suspects hostages may be held by Hamas.&nbsp;
Military officials have repeatedly noted that every strike on Gaza and the ground operations are carefully planned out in order not to endanger Israeli hostages.&nbsp;

Israeli troops demolished almost every structure and flattened huge swathes of land inside the perimeter of Gaza after they were directed to turn the area into a &ldquo;kill zone&rdquo; where anybody who entered was an easy target, said some soldiers who worked on the plan in testimony. Israeli soldiers said they were told to destroy homes, factories, and farmland roughly 1 km (0.6 miles) inside the perimeter of Gaza to create a &ldquo;buffer zone&rdquo;.
The testimonies were collected by Breaking the Silence, a group founded in 2004 by Israeli veterans who aim to expose the reality of the military&rsquo;s grip. The report titled &lsquo;The Perimeter&rsquo;, published on Monday, said the plan was to create a broad strip of land that provided a clear line of sight for the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) to identify and kill militants. &ldquo;Almost every object, infrastructure installation, and structure within the perimeter was demolished,&rdquo; it said.

A mobile phone video released by the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has raised serious questions about the Israeli military&rsquo;s version of events surrounding a deadly attack on March 23 that killed 15 emergency workers in <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/netanyahu-to-meet-trump-in-washington-this-week-first-foreign-leader-to-discuss-tariffs-in-person-8929092">Gaza</a>.
The footage, recorded in the dark, shows a convoy of ambulances and a fire truck moving with both headlights and emergency lights switched on. Moments later, the vehicles come under heavy fire. According to the PRCS, the video was found on the phone of a paramedic who died in the incident.
This directly challenges Israel's earlier claim that the vehicles were unlit and may not have been recognised as medical units. After the video became public, the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/naim-qassem-slams-israeli-attacks-on-lebanon-says-hezbollah-will-be-forced-to-take-other-options-if-8905527">Israel Defense Forces</a> (IDF) told the BBC, &ldquo;All claims, including the documentation circulating about the incident, will be thoroughly and deeply examined to understand the sequence of events and the handling of the situation.&rdquo;
One paramedic who survived the attack had already told the BBC that the vehicles were clearly marked as ambulances and had both internal and external lights turned on.
The PRCS said the video was also shown to members of the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/un-accuses-israel-of-genocidal-warfare-in-gaza-citing-mass-casualties-starvation-776256">UN Security Council</a>. It captures the ambulances coming to a stop with lights still flashing and emergency responders stepping out wearing reflective uniforms. The sound of gunfire follows soon after. The man filming can be heard praying before the video ends. He was later confirmed among the dead.
His body, along with those of other victims, was recovered from a shallow grave near the wrecked vehicles nearly a week after the attack. The dead included eight PRCS paramedics, six members of Gaza&rsquo;s Civil Defence, and one UN staff member. International organisations had to wait several days before they were allowed safe access to the area.
Israel has claimed that the ambulances were carrying fighters from Hamas and Islamic Jihad but has offered no evidence. The IDF maintains its stance, with Foreign Minister Gideon Saar saying, &ldquo;The IDF did not randomly attack an ambulance.&rdquo;
The military has said it will carry out a full investigation, especially after survivors and families of the victims questioned its account.

Israeli Prime Minister <a href="https://www.wionews.com/benjamin-netanyahu" rel="dofollow noopener" target="_blank">Benjamin Netanyahu</a> has said he is willing to allow Hamas leaders to leave the Gaza Strip, but only if the group agrees to disarm. The announcement came as Israel continued its military operations in Gaza.
On Sunday morning, an Israeli airstrike hit a house and a tent sheltering displaced people in Khan Yunis, killing at least eight individuals, including five children, according to Gaza&rsquo;s civil defence agency. The attack occurred on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, the festival that marks the end of Ramadan.

Israel restarted intense bombing across Gaza on 18 March, followed by a new ground assault. This ended nearly two months of ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
At the start of a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu dismissed claims that Israel was not engaged in talks to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza.
&ldquo;We are negotiating under fire... We can see cracks beginning to appear,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Hamas must lay down its arms. Its leaders will be allowed to leave,&rdquo; he added.
Netanyahu also stressed that Israel&rsquo;s military approach was yielding results. &ldquo;The military pressure is working,&rdquo; he added, noting that it was weakening Hamas and increasing the chances of hostage releases.

While Hamas has shown a readiness to give up administrative control of Gaza, the group has warned that surrendering its weapons remains a &ldquo;red line&rdquo;.
Talks to reach another ceasefire and secure the release of Israeli hostages are ongoing, with Egypt, Qatar and the United States leading mediation efforts.
On Saturday, a senior Hamas official confirmed the group had accepted a new ceasefire proposal and called on Israel to do the same. Netanyahu&rsquo;s office later said Israel had received the proposal and had submitted a counteroffer.
